Well, That Didn’t Go Too Well
There’s games where you lose and there’s games where you get your asses kicked. And then there’s games where you just chalk it up to smoking massive amounts of someone else’s pole.
And I feel like all three of those things happened last night.
If Two Trip’s master plan was to re-arrange his rotation so that his best pitchers could embarrass us in our own house then his plan is off to a masterful start.
Kershaw tonight……
Blanco batting second, Uggla starting; that was a crap line-up the Giants threw out there last night. The fans deserved better. Shame on Sabean/Bochy for that one.
As for Timmy, it’s like he never saw a scouting report on Puig. Or his control was so bad, he couldn’t stop grooving pitches.
I went into this series wanting the Giants to win at least one, there’s still the chance to do that.
Lincecum lack of command when he had 2 strikes on guys, same thing Bochy talked about previously. Ahead in the count and leaving very hittable pitches nowhere near the target. No cheap shots last night either except for the one Kemp dinked into CF.
As to Hector, I don’t care for him at all as a player, but he does seem to take way more of a beating (mostly fouls) than Posey does despite C much less. Last night was kind of odd, getting a foul tip right off the dome and staying in there. Losing a game is one thing, this was different.
I know C are expected to be tough, but that wasn’t good on anyone’s part except the Ump. Giants, after what just happened to Belt, have some splainin to do.
I said the same thing last night WD . . . It was unconscionable of the Giants to leave him in there – he should have immediately been taken out.
Yeah, saw that this morning. Whether he sucks or not is irrelevant; everyone deserves adequate medical treatment…catchers especially in light of repeated blasts to the head from a foul tip. Ump only thing btw him and the ground last night.
By the time Juan was in, I was out.
What a great line by Baggs about Puig’s game: “All night, his hard contact was a crossover dribble, and the Giants were forever getting their ankles broken.”
With no bullets (prospects of note) in our gun (minor league system); coupled with Price and Zobrist playing lights out the last few weeks, we can forget about acquiring them. Moreover, I think all MLB teams whom deemed themselves buyers won’t be able to acquire them as well, as the Rays are playing outstanding baseball. Winners of 8 straight, the Rays have gotten back in contention. In the last month or so, they have won 25 of 36, leaving them at 49-53 and only 4½ games out of the second wild card. In short, the fans would crucify them if they got rid of Zobrist and Price.
I’m still confident the Giants will win this series and even if they don’t, I’m not too concerned about the Dodgers. With their dysfunctional personalities, they have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot. So, I am keeping the faith. Go Giants!
well, Price is always lights out, And last night Zobrist had his first multi hit game in 2 weeks so I don’t know how “lights out” he’s been.
The problems are obvious. Because of injuries and no farm system we are left with too many holes to fill without any realistic ways to fill them.
Enter: Dan Uggla.
We’re fucked.
#totallyfucked
Are you kidding? I have Zobrist on 2 of my FL teams and he has been lights out. In his last 30 games, he is batting .313 (29-91), 12 runs, 12 RBIs, 2 HR, 1 SB. Last night, he went 4 for 4.
I know. As I said, it was his first multi hit gm in 2 weeks. In my book that’s only lights out if you compare him to out shitty collection of middle infielders
another way to look at it is that he was 0-12 and 1 for 16 going into last night’s 4 single performance. Sorry, that’s not lights out, recently or otherwise
We’ll have to agree to disagree, as you conveniently included two 1 for 3 outings, as well as the All Star break (7/13 through 7/18 no one played) in your two weeks. lqtm.
dude, you said “lights out the last few weeks.” I was responding to the words you used. And it is fact that he was 0-12 heading into last night’s game. Or you could say he was 1-16 or 2 for 19 and in fact 2 for his last 22 going into last night’s *epic* 4 single night. So, I’m not sure what you’re lqtming about. that’s not “light’s out the last few weeks…” lqtm?
Gotta side with BF here, Blade. Even the sample you sighted doesn’t project to such a great season…
OK, he’s lights out compared to Uggla. Better?
The scary thing is that I like our chances tonight better than tomorrow.
Puig is on pace to go about 20/85 for the season. Hardly superstar numbers…
I agree and I think the hysteria about Puig is out of control. Lincecum pitched him horribly last night. You can get the guy out, he’s hardly invincible…..
I’m really on the ball lately…
You’re lights out, Loo
The thing that hurts most about Héctor is that Sabean missed his chance to bring Pierzynski.
Peavy about to get moved to an unknown NL team.
Guillotine Gordon was from “Parts Unknown”…….He was the tag team partner of Crazy Luke Graham.
I’ll have both of them with me at Citifield next week…
guess that’s better than a brad penny year.
You ever get the feeling the world is a tuxedo and you’re a pair of brown shoes?
Did I call the Peavy deal the other day? 🙂
take that Blade…next stop Bonifacio….
Of course stupid smiley face blade:)
What Peavy deal? Is he coming here? Off to the gym GH . . . catch your response later. Peavy is another “lights out” player. 🙂
Have not seen any terms yet…probably xouple pitching prospects, hopefully just mid-tier…
I was out cold by the third inning so missed the disaster. Did that relief appearance screw things up in your all’s opinion? They need Peavy for tomorrow’s start, is he able to?
Looks like he should start tomorrow…
Blade, so if you project Zobrist’s numbers from the last 30 over a full season that is about 60 runs scored and 60 rbis and 5 stolen bases…dont think that would be much help to the anyone except your fantasy team;) just f’n with you…
I don’t think I’ve mentioned Fred Lewis yet this year . . . Would you rather have Blanco or Fred Lewis in his prime (I enjoyed typing that) patrolling CF right now?
I want Chuck Conners in CF. Rifle and all
Only if Joseph Lewis is managing.
good one O.
I was just wondering whatever happened to the Groper? I saw Correia got hammered again last night and so did Edwin Jackson, who makes tons of $$$. I realize Groper did some odd shit, but he was pretty effective when he wasn’t in the ER.
Can’t remember whose it was, Mac or Alley maybe, but “Win one for the Groper” one of all time great lines here.
Looks like Escobar and Hembree…I would have liked to see Hembree get a shot with the big league team oh well…
If Romo is not closing, any one think we could get something for him before the deadline and his free agency?
Peavy? Why not, come on down
Don’t know why we keep bringing up Zobrist. He was headed to Seattle anyway before Rays pulled back. Giants weren’t giving up Crick + for a 33 yr old.
Well, that was a cool game – triples are fun!
Quick dinner plans this weekend, eh? Drive thru at Jack in the Box is good!
Be sure and post when the Dodgers are watching the World Series on TV again this year.
Hey, Zoom – checked out Sarum from the library couple months ago – good read – got about half-way through it in the couple weeks i had before returning it – I’ll get back to it someday. I read where you have started in on the Sharpe Series by Cornwell – love that series – his other series are all good too – Warlord Chronicles, Saxon Tales, Starbuck (Civil War), and the Grail Quest series was really good too.
How long did it take you to finish “Green Eggs And Ham”?
Loo, don’t tell him how it ends
Don’t know if Mattingly planned this, but another drawback for tonite would be facing Kershaw in the shadows.
This time of year it’s light til 8 (and warm in bay area this weekend), so with 6:05 start Opie will have 5-6 innings of advantage. Course dodgers have to hit in it too…and last Sunday I watched Cards light hitting (for power) Bourjos take his ass out the yard. Vogs usually holds up his end well too vs. LA.
I mean, does he really need shadows to beat us?
The Giants will be standing in the shadows…of love
Hey, We just traded 2 guys ( heath hembree and someone else) for jake Peavy. WTF!! Who sits for his 4.7 era. 2 rings gives Sabean some slack, but this deal seems STUPID!
Plus, Sabean managed to find a guy that actually has a worse won/loss record than Cain. Peavy’s at 1-9, with 20 HRs allowed.
Maybe Peavy will find his mojo at AT&T Park. Maybe.
The “someone else” was Escobar, considered a top prospect at the start of the season. I guess his stock fell.
That was when he was the head of the Medellin Cartel. Why I remember when…wait…hold it…wrong Escobar.
Never mind
I got a kick out of “Custard’s Last Stand” last night. Intentional or not, that was brilliant.
Dodgers are only -$200 tonight on the money line. Thought they’d be higher…
up to -210 now.
Yeah it Edwin Escobar(LHP #2 prospect) and Heath Hembree(#11 prospect) for Jake Peavy, Bochy’s old pet from SD days.
Not to high on this deal, but we do need a starter with Cain out, and sorry Chi, Petit ain’t the guy.
Yeah WillieD… I came up with “Win one for the Groper”it seemed so appropriate after the Vegas gurney room incident.
What do you mean Kat “sorry Chi, Petit ain’t the guy”??? Only mention I made of Petit recently was that he doesn’t suck (as you stated), and that he actually has good home splits. Now he can go back to where we need him (long relief). I doubt most teams’ long guy is any better than Petit.
I’m giving Peavy the benefit of the doubt. He is not having a very good year, that’s true. But he’ll enjoy pitching in the NL again and he loves Bochy. I’m not a “change of scenery guy” (typically) but in this case I think it might happen (where I do not think it will affect Uggla at all). He doesn’t need to be an ace. What he will do is command respect on the mound and eat up innings, something Petit hardly does. If Cain is gone for the year (and you have to think he is for the Giants to make a move like this) it’s probably the only chance we have of competing this year. Totally serious.
And again, this is about as good as it gets for what Sabean can get with the shit currency he’s got in the minor leagues right now
Agree. And it makes me wonder if Cain is worse off than any of us know. Fuck, at this point unless he can definitely come back pain free…just go ahead and get the elbow scoped.
Agree BF…
They made this deal knowing Cain’s done(Probably TJ with Dr. Andrews coming up) Peavy really is a clone of Cain anyway, the good thing is his HR total should go down at ATT.
From loose bodies in the elbow to TJ surgery. I haven’t heard anything about his ulnar nerve or anything else being fucked with his elbow.
100% agree.
Whatever…… this Giants team is not good enough period.
well, you might be right but this is a hell of a lot better than sitting on his hands and calling out another “bad penny” year. We won’t miss Escobar or Hembree one whit. And he’s 14-2 v the Dodgers lifetime. I’ll take that over whatever Petit was going to do tomorrow.
Hell, I’d piss on a sparkplug if I thought it would do any good
If you include a unicorn for Peavy,it’s an exciting trade!
So what’s the deal with Hector?
Are they goin let him play, put down 5 fingers? Are call up Quiroz or Susac?
My guess, probably Quiroz only cause Boch doesn’t want to many rooks up tight now(Panik, Duvall,Andrianza) and handling a pitching staff in a pennant race would probably be too much for Susac right now IMO
Susac just got called up
Maybe Murph will give him #25…
That’s gold, Loo!
Hector to the DL…hence the Susac call up. Susac has been doing well in Fresneck…time to see what the kid can do in the show. I like the move…I was SO FUCKING TIRED of Hector…
Not exciting this season, but both Hembree and Escobar still have upsides. Enough to satisfy Boston. Peavy looks to be blah at best ~ a spacefiller ~ and in much the same category as Petit at worst. My hopes for this series rest on Vogie getting that old mojo going at his home field advantage and maybe one or two of our hitters running into one vs Opie.
It’s looking like another one of those days: http://i.imgur.com/sClMO16.jpg
Go smoke some pole…
Sounds like Susac is coming up today. So will he be catching Timmy in place of Sanchez?
What are you worried about? You worry too much…
Check out Ted with the George Gobel reference. Hollywood Squares lives!
Cain’s 2-7 Peavy’s 1-9 Hey he fools some folks for a few turns. fine. It’s the hitting I’m worried about.
Actually, I got it from an old Tonight Show but thanks, chuck
It was Gobel though, right?
I didn’t know Goebbels made it to the Tonight show.
Yes, it was Gobel. Whilst Dean Martin kept flicking his cigarette ashes in Gobel’s drink
One good thing about Peavy – he studies hitters religiously. Dude doesn’t take any short cuts.
And the dude can do a lot…he can start, relieve or close.
Wow, Cooperstown just announced that the HOF ballot eligibility has been shortened from 15 years to 10.
Meaning the * gang will be cycled through quickly and off the ballot faster than previously. McGwire is down to 2 years of eligibility. Not that he deserves it . . ..
Well, for the 3 holes from injuries, we get Uggla for 2B, Peavy for the rotation…. now waiting for an OFer. I’d say Sabean is progressing, anyway…. Peavy will be fine. Hell, I’ll even predict lights out. Insert joke here about the different definitions of ‘lights out’ being thrown around here today… 🙂
Bottom feeding. It reminds me of fishing on Long Island Sound, as a kid. We’d go out on my uncle’s little rowboat fitted with an Evinrude. We’d catch flounders. Line was wrapped around a little piece of plywood. Bait: sandworms. We used metal sinkers. Loved them flatfish. Bottom feeding.
I’m down with the Peavy deal. When the change of scenery involves going back to the NL West where you had great success and leaving the AL East, which is full of boppers and bandboxes, that is significant IMO.
Watched Wolf of Wall Street last night after bailing on the game. I’d give it a C. Too raunchy and over-the-top for my tastes much of the time, and it seemed to me that a lot of the story is a direct rip-off of The Boiler Room—which is a movie I really like. Having said that, I did think some of the scenes and dialogue were very well done—especially where DiCaprio first meets with the FBI guy and his various speeches firing up his sales team and partners. I could be talked into giving it a C+.
Yeah. made the mistake of sneaking in to that with my wife and son while we waited for some other movie to start. The first scene, I’m like ‘OK, uncomfortable?” My son “yup” We’re outta here. This was a while ago. Had no idea how raunchy it was. Still haven’t seen it.
Keith Law thinks we got the better part of the deal, saying in part, “The San Francisco Giants get a huge boost to their rotation, shoring up a surprising weakness in their club, while the Boston Red Sox clear some funds and acquire a fringy starter prospect and a solid relief arm that has had trouble staying healthy. Jake Peavy gives the Giants exactly what they needed: a starter to provide what they thought they’d be getting from Tim Lincecum and who keeps Yusmeiro Petit out of the rotation.”
1. Hunter Pence (R) RF
2. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
5. Michael Morse (R) LF
6. Adam Duvall (R) 1B
7. Dan Uggla (R) 2B
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. RHP — Ryan Vogelsong (5-7, 3.99 ERA)
Wow, that was fun to do. I never knew what I was missing all these years…
With Uggla in the lineup it’s just plain uggla.
Blanco in the two hole again…ouch. I’d put Craw there and Blanco in the 8. Sabes needs to land an OFer, now.
Finished the Bill King bio by Ken Korach, “Holy Toledo”. Not quite a good read, tho King was quite an interesting guy and very unique. If you listened to him do Warriors games a kid like I did with transistor radio in bed, he was best ever. And he did fill in stuff with Giants early in his career for a while.
Most of the rest of his long career in broadcasting was spent with local teams from here like Raiders (including LA days) and A’s. His call on 20 game streak was in “Moneyball” movie. And he was in on the infamous “Holy Roller” play. One of the best in his field, more so on radio.
But just not enough interesting stuff on someone who author admits had ton of good stories from his past (60s dubs) about NBA, etc. with too much gratuitous praise from contemporaries. Korach is a good guy whom I think could have told a better story…though maybe too much was just not fit for print.
Sure would love to see someone like Marlon Byrd plugged into the OF, his bat would be much appreciated. Byrd in RF, move Pence to CF, Morse in LF, keeps Blanco and Colvin on the bench which suits them and helps the team… Waiting for that 3rd shoe to drop. Is that a mixed metaphor, since no one actually wears 3 shoes? …. Any word on Pagan? or Belt, for that matter?
I agree. I mentioned him recently, too. What remains of 8 mil this year, and 8 next year. Maybe the Phillies pick-up some of that. WTH…I would roll the dice on that one.
Have not read the comments…been out all day. Big fire in the area. During our trip home this afternoon from some friends’ winery, Gail got activated through a large animal rescue org to potentially ferry horses out of harms way.Not good.
Anyway, my thoughts on the trade. My initial reaction was WTF! But the more I think about it, I think it’s a good deal for the team. Escobar was having a very rough year in Fresneck, and Hembree wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire. Who knows if either ever amount to a hill of shit, but we do know that the Giants need and arm NOW. Deal done. Anxious to see Susac (Sacramento-area kid and a Beaver to boot) in action, too.
Oh what the heck……..I’m peaved! Guess I’ll open a can of cold beans.
Chi, actually, I would take any of the Phils’ 1st 4 OFers (Byrd, Revere, Sizemore, and even Brown, although that’s pushing it) as starters over Blanco and Colvin. Byrd can be had. Hell, Amaro gave the G’s Pence for Nate and Tommy Joseph….. And agree, Peavy could well prove a quiet but very good pickup for a much needed hole in the rotation (and the ‘pen is better with Petit in it as well). Key game tonight. Beating (not clobbering, just beating) Kershaw, as they’ve done before, would be very big. Hope Voggie is dialed in.
Paul, agree tonight’s game is big…they all are at this point, but I don’t think it is the end of the world if they lose tonight. But agree, a win over Kershaw would have to be a huge boost for the club.
Vogs looks great through 2, last inning not a ball out of the IF. In on Kemp’s hands, great curveball for the K on Crawford.
I know SF is underdog tonite, but last night in NL lot of scrubini teams won–Pads, Phils, Cubs (vs comeback W over. cards!) Mets (over Brewers) Sherps (8-1 over Pirates).
Blanco already with a hit tonite…tells me anything could happen.
Gotta run coach b-ball, enjoy!
One thing i did like about Duvall’s AB vs arguably the best pitcher in the game is that he was able to work the count. I like that in a slugger. Opie pretty much puts em where he wants em and the kid did not go for the first two sucker pitches. No video here, but maybe he was getting set-up for a sucker pitch which wasn’t.
Last night was steak and whiskey. Tonight corndogs and beer. Pence with a couple tough plays there. The bullpen on one and the sun on the other one.
Anyone else in the OF would be good. Thing is everyone knows how des[erate we are. so the price is high. Even for Byrd.
Still tripping that he’s 37.
And there’s your ballgame. Can these guys score at home?
Fuck. I knew the lost ball in the sun was going to bite them in the ass. Nice recovery by Pence though.
Morse I mean.
Well, that is the price you pay in having Morse in the OF. At least they nailed HanRam at 2nd.
Fuck. Posey got under that one just a bit too much.
How many fucking Dodgers fans are at these games? I’m listening to radio feed and it sounds like half of SoCal is there.
Typical Mac.
There is a noticeable amount of blue in the seats. Plus the home crowd has nothing to cheer about…
Yeah, like getting someone on base.
Fucking A! Great play by Pence!
Time to give the fans something to cheer about….come on Giants.
Fuck! Straighten that shit out Uggly.
C’mon Dan, give us a thrill!
I know there was probably tons of discussion on it, but I just don’t like seeing anyone wearing 22 in a Giant’s uniform…
21 bothers me, too. Kent was arguably the 5th or 6th greatest SF Giant in history…
Murph must not like Thrill. It’s not a hard scenario to imagine. I love Thrill, but he comes off as a fairly abrasive guy to me.
Has anyone worn Schmidt’s #29 since he left?
Good question. I agree Kent was a total stud for SF and Schmidt wasn’t far behind, but I’m not as concerned about their numbers—I supposed since they weren’t homegrown guys.
There you go. Get a fight going anyway.
Kershaw’s going after someone. Guaranteed.
Uggly throw there.
Everyone gave up?
I’m just waiting to see who Kershaw nails…
Shutout 4 in Vogie’s last 5 starts?
I see Carl Crawford is also a snot-rocketeer…
On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.
I love watching Kershaw pitch, always have. He looks like shit in blue and if he is going to fade suddenly in a game tonight would be good. Watching The Open (golf) there are a lot of Americans come over to attend and I saw one baseball cap – fucking doggers.
Hardest hit balls all night there. And we get another stupid start time tomorrow?
Stupider, I think…
Oh joy. I guess that guarantees about 6 innings of no-hit suck from us.
Kershaw drill anyone yet?
Complete game shutouts are beautiful things. Very uncommon in this day and age, but Kershaw is a throwback pitcher – his 2.55 career ERA for all MLB pitchers with at least 1,000 innings is the best in the game by a pitcher since 1920.
So fucking what. Go beat off with all your bum jackoff friends.
Oh fuck off Rooster. Were you alive in 1988? Too bad. Maybe yer mama was wiping shit off your ass.
Speaking of fucking off, I’d love to tell Greg Papa to fuck off as well. He makes up shit just to sound smart. Pence’s ball that he lost in the sun didn’t dramatically change the game.
It cost the Giants one run. The next 3 innings were the problem, you bag of shit.
On a side note I think the only reason they got Peavy was because of his 14-2 record vs the Dogs. Whole lot of good that will do, unless he finds his power stroke. These guys couldn’t score in Sparks with a bag full of c-notes.
Kershaw has the advantage of pitching without a big diamond World Series ring on each hand, Rooster…
Who was the best before 1920?
Fuck the Dodgers. Peavy will stop the bleeding tomorrow.
And then papa goes on to say the Giants are tied for 1st, in the loss column. The Dogers are ahead by percentage points. No, you bag of dicks, the Dogs are up by half a game. Shut your stupid-ass mouth.
That’s “bowl” of dicks
Good Gawd. That was a pretty unwatchable game
BLEEP Dodger Blue……
For some, at least, it was sweet: http://i.imgur.com/tsiR2r7.jpg
I’m a little confused. What exactly is your point? That Kershaw was pleased with the outcome of the game? Really?
