A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Avoiding a Sweep

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 27, 2014

Just have for a quickie thread change. I’m going on record predicting a very good start from Peavy tonight. Now, in order to get a win we have to score at least one run and I have no faith or confidence in that. But it’s happened before, it’ll probably happen again.

If you believe the Giants can score a run today, clap your hands. Don’t let the Dodgers sweep. Come on, everyone!! Clap your hands!!

Yeah, this run-drought at home gets real tiresome. I thought the Dogs fucking with their lineup would bite ’em in the ass, but no such luck. This certainly isn’t do or die, but it would set a shitty tone for the next few games. I mean, we’re getting back to ‘you gotta tip your cap to the latest guy to shut down the offense’ again. 2 runs in the last 3 games will do that though.

Between the scourge of Walnut Creek and Capon, it’s getting veritably Splash-like around here

I’m fired up for this Peavy start. He does have lifetime ownage on the Dogpile 14-2 2.21, he is a bulldog which is his nickname( shit that’s Kercraps as well) but anyway he will be pumped up to make a good impression, and he knows this division well, pitching for his favorite manager all-time “Master Grasshopper Bruce wax on wax off Bochy”!
Man we need this one, especially on an ESPN bias night as they smoke the poles of Dogshit players all fucking night!! Go Giants!!!
And Fuck LA and Rooster as well!!!’

Before this series LA had gone 2-4 (couple Ls from Haren) while SF had 5-2 road trip..so net gain is still half game by Giants not altering the rotation, and without Cain.
Many teams looking for offensive help like a corner OF or 2b, so in that regard Giants are no different. but obviously doesn’t make it any easier. Rios, Byrd or any Phillies OF…zzzz.
Just goes to show how starved teams are for hitters—.260 ish guys with occasional pop are all over MLBTR and much in demand.

Wondering whether the SF ownership would cough up the cash for Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo who looks to be a four tool outfielder ready for the Show. Looks like he will get from $32-35M from the lucky suitor.

HOF unwatchable. Only deserving one imo is Maddux. And of course the sanctimonious anti-Bonds crowd, including Killion Purdy and other local doofs, will rejoice in Frank Thomas “I did it the right way” blather.

Pretty interesting backpedal by La Russa who suggested roiders should be allowed in *with an asterisk*, colossally dumb idea that will never happen. I usually like Jenkins, but not when he sticks up for LaRussa that everyone in baseball can use the Sgt. Schultz defense. More than one blogger commented that LaRussa should have his own asterisk.

Win or lose tonite, Pirates in town next. They’ve suffered back to back 8-1 losses to last place Sherps who are minus Tulo. I’ve always had soft spot for Pirates going back to ’60s and up through Lumber Company Harry Walker and Pops We are Family group. Hope they can stay in contention and make life difficult for Cards, who in their continual effort to be second most annoying and overhyped team in NL, acquire AJ Piershitzki.

” More then one blogger has commented that LaRussa should have his own asterisk”
That’s so damm true WillieD, Tony just looked the other way when Canseco,McGwire etc were shooting their butts/arms in the clubhouse, I have no respect for his pompous arrogance for the game of baseball!!!
And what’s worse that prick will probably be the next commish!

That’s the pisser Willie. The Dogs came in cold, we came in from the 5-2 roadie, and they are pounding us up the ass.

Figuratively. A sweep won’t kill our chances, but it’ll feel terrible. Blanco is just getting too awful to contemplate. Anything at this point would be an improvement. Although there’s good news around Belt. He’s finally coming around. Pagan? I’m on a wait and see basis. I’ll believe he’s better when I see him on the field.

  8. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 27, 2014 at 11:56 am

The Dodgers had their actual pre-season choice of starting lineup out there last night. The Giants are missing three; two if you don’t count Scutaro, whose 2014 chances always seemed slim. That alone is enough to make a difference. Injuries can sound like excuses; but man, when you’re starting Duvall, Uggla, and Blanco all in the same game, it IS a good excuse.

  9. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 27, 2014 at 12:01 pm

What a weird season, though. If the Giants win tonight, they’re back in firstplace.
If the Giants can avoid getting swept, they’ll come out of this series actually feeling pretty good. And just chalk up the three game losing streak to running into Hamels, Greinke, and Kershaw.
Yeah, winning tonight is asking a lot, given what we’ve seen in the first two games of the series. The Giants need someone to be a hero tonight. As Willie would say, how about the big guys stepping it up? Posey, Pablo, Pence, Morse?

Nothing for nothing but today is the birth date of Leo (Lippy; Swamper; The All-American Out; Leo the Lip) Durocher who, if he hadn’t passed away in 1991, would have been 109 today. He is quoted as saying “something went out of baseball when the Dodgers left Brooklyn and neither all the king’s horses nor all the king’s men can ever put it back again”

I bought tix to tomorrow night’s game anticipating a Bumgarner start and Belt’s return from the DL. First Belt has his setback, now I get an email from sfgiants listing Petit as the probable. That dull sad sack pitched yesterday, so it seems like he shouldn’t start Monday. Was there any other word that they were going with Petit?

Blanco’s one of many who ain’t hitting James.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 27, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Yes Chuck, but he’s not a former MVP. Last night he got single off Kershaw for SF first hit and died at 1b.
Neither Pence nor Posey have a hit this entire weekend.
As Zum alluded to earlier, to me it’s up to the big guns to make big things happen, especially when the team is struggling minus a couple mainstays. I don’t expect Blanco to hit .300…others are fully capable and have shown it before in clutch situations. Past time to see a lot more of it, imo.

Yeah Blade, Old Butt Wad is a total moron. As we all know I can’t stand LA like you and others, but I thought Kershaw came off very professional, even giving Peavy a nod for his 1st bunt attempt after being in the AL for years and knowing it would be tough.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 27, 2014 at 6:23 pm

Yeah, kidding a bit about Kershaw (he was professional and respectful of the Giants) – my beef is with ESPN, i.e., the game is why I tune in . . . Not to see interviews, where I miss the action on the field.

Through 4: 70 pitches for Ryu. 57 for Peavey. Could be a battle of the bullies. Sooner the better usually, but tonight Peavey’s on a mission. Endtranced by the crowd Uggla swings for the fences. Ran smack dab into the ATT effect. Even gets longtime Giants. Bad name. Ryu or Donny2 too stubborn to give Crawdaddy an IP. Payed for their sins. You do NOT pitch the mudbug with the pitcher due up and two outs. He thrives on situations like that. Looks like Donny got schooled again.
