On paper this matchup struck me as one of the two i calculated we would lose in Milwaukee going into the series, with last night’s being the expected victory. Peralta is a tough pitcher this season, but not quite the reincarnation of Cy Young. Peavy has to be champing at the bit, having lost a couple of close ones for us and probably just about ready to scream over his seasonal W-L record. So he should be motivated ~ even in Milwaukee.
Good news is that Milwaukee is a place where bats can awaken. Even with his 2 RBI single being a squibber off the end of his bat Morse did his a sharp one to drive in another later. Maybe he’s finally over the crud and is getting his stroke back. Other side of the ticket is Belt who went an embarrassing 0 for 5 last night. His timing seems to still be off. If he breaks out of it today i just about guarantee a Giants win. Really good news centers of Panda’s contract run and the emergence of Panik as a ML hitter. Maybe a bit early on Joe yet, but the signs look excellent.
So if Peavey continues to pitch his heart out and those bats come to life today we could be looking at a series win ~ even vs a tough pitcher.
I too originally had the Giants taking one in this series (also last night’s game). (Yes Stick, great minds do think alike.) But I think there is a good chance that the SF Roadrunners…er, Giants, take this one against Wile E. (Wily) Peralta (Coyote).
If Peavy pitches anywhere near as he did in his last start, and the bats continue to do their part, it will translate into a “Happy Flight.”
Angel Pagan, paging Angel Pagan…please pick-up the red hotline courtesy phone…
Also, has a thought I wanted to share last night while watching the post-game (was just too damned tired), and hearing Panik intereviewed. I (as others have been, too) have been impressed with this kid’s play of late. And listening to him for a few minutes last night I now have even more respect for him. The kid knows the game. Not only does he field well, and hit to all fields, but just hearing him talk you know the kid is a ball player. If I had to pick right now, I would say you are looking at the starting 2nd baseman for your SF Giants for 2015.
Stickman, watching Belt in person Monday, his timing seemed off all day. I was yelling from my seat (and I am loud enough and could certainly hear me from seats near home) that he was swinging late and to get his bat going earlier. Did not quite work.
I’ll just throw this out there, to say something, and hope it’s not meant to be controversial or insensitive or idiotic, even.
But….some people bounce back from illness faster than others, I think, and maybe Belt is one of those that doesn’t. I’m remembering when he had the flu a year or two ago and it was reported that he was bedridden for FIVE days. I have to admit that kind of blew my mind. I guess because I haven’t even HAD the flu in 4 years, and whenever I’ve gotten it, it rarely knocked me down for three days at the most.
Ah, but you say, come on zumiee, he got hit in the face by a ball!
Not to be snarky, but so did I. I told the story on the Flap before of when I got hit in the mouth by a linedrive during a pick-up game, when I was pitching. I was a 6th grader and the guy who hit the ball was a sophomore in high school. I got 7 stitches under my lip, and my lips swelled to about three times their size, and I was good to go to school a couple of days later, and get stared at by other students.
I’m not trying to say Belt is a wuss or something, and certainly I’m no iron man. I’ve been fortunate health-wise, so far, knock on wood. But I ain’t no great physical speciman.
But, on the other hand, Belt is a pro athlete in his 20s, the prime of life.
I’m just throwing a thought out there, and not meaing to be insensitive. It’s a blog, and sometimes we just throw some things out there.
Feel free to call me a jerk. 🙂
I like Belt a lot. I’m pulling for him to do well.

There could be something to that. Also, wasn’t this his second concussion? I think I read that somewhere. Maybe the second one was more severe and running the bases exacerbated it. If I remember right, Twin posted something saying as much. I had a concussion as a kid. Other than that whole day basically erased from my mind, I don’t remember any lingering effects.
I don’t have a problem with you tossing this out for comment, but I think regarding both illness (bouncing back from the flu, etc.), and most certainly with concussions, each situation is different.
I do not think Belt is a wuss, and believe for whatever reason, it is just taking him longer to recover from his last concussion. (I am not sure if he had a concussion prior to the recent one.)
“It may not happen today or tomorrow or even in five years, but it will happen one day.”
I would agree with the article that it’s going to happen someday. And I think it will be at least ten years, to let the steroid cloud disperse some more. And it will probably be during a down period for the Giants when they’re looking to do a big event to rouse some excitement. And maybe Bonds needs to address the steroid thing in some way. A “mistakes were made” type of speech or something, if not an apology.
I think there will be a Timmy statue, too, someday. That big wind-up is calling out for a statue. But they can’t do a Timmy statue before a Bonds statue. It wouldn’t be fair, and it would even introduce the possibility of race being brought up. The Giants don’t want any controversy regarding any of that. So I predict a Bonds statue in 10-15 years, and a Timmy statue after that.
dirtnrocksnomo said, on August 7, 2014 at 11:11 am
Isn’t being in the HOF one of the requirements the club has for a statue? If that is the case I don’t see Lincecum getting one and as long as the HOF stonewalls Bonds the club has an out.
The Hall of Fame thing is a very arbitrary requirement by the team, which gives them cover for not having a Bonds statue. The team could remove that requirement any time they wanted to.
Well, being a 6th grader you certainly heal faster than even a young adult.
Same thing happened to my brother, except he was playing CF in a pickup game, and there was another game going on kitty corner to our game (Aragon HS) someone nailed one in the other game. They started yelling ‘look out!’ My brother turned around and got nailed in the mouth on the fly. Amazingly he didn’t lose any teeth, but he was a total bloody mess. By the time we got home his t-shirt was covered in blood.
But concussions aren’t anything to fuck with when you see people drop dead after seemingly mild head injuries. Who was the actress that died after a fall skiing?
Already in the first inning it would have made more sense to bat Panik second and Pence third. Panik is more suited to hit and run than he is batting with 2 down and bases loaded. On the other hand Pence is not the type of guy to put most of his effort into moving up the runner.
Okay so the whole concussion thing. There are different degrees of concussions. When I had mine, I had 3 months where I had to deal with vertigo. Concussions are no joke. I say let Belt be a wuss. You only have one brain. So take it easy Brandon.
Yeah, had 3 that were concussions, and a few that were borderline . . . Like you said, one was OK after a couple days, the car accident took a month to clear up. Not sure about the 3rd one.

Peavy getting knocked around a bit here. Hope the BP is up.
Game going about as i expected. What the eff is with Crawford? Pretty lame ABs these last couple games. Personally i’m kinda tempted to go with Duffy at SS for a game or two. Could be Craw’s dragging a bit here in the dog daze of August.
Pagan not only back but contributed a couple hits ~ better he did in his Fresnobrief. Now it’s a matter of Belt feeling better. Might not happen in KC because of heat and humiliated relatives, though as a native of Nacogdoces, Texas that would not bother him a bit normally. Today it was on the offense and on BB15 mis-arranging Panik and Pence in the order.
Well Zum, I can definitely relate to what you said about the flu. Usually I’m bed-ridden for 3 days max. However, the one year I didn’t get my flu shot, it was as if I had Ebola symptoms . . . OK, I jest a bit – but I had all the flu symptoms times 10X. For a week, it was a struggle to get out of bed. One of the few times I wished I was married or was dating a nurse. 🙂
Well, hate to say it, but as I (and Stick) called it (1-2 against the BrewCrew). Erase/delete and off to KC. I am still sticking with my prediction of a 2-1 series, and subsequently, a 6-4 roadie.
Glad to see Crazy Horse back at the top of the line-up. Hoping he can stay healthy and Belt gets the cobwebs cleared and gets dialed-in. These things happen, and the three-headed P-Monster (Pence, Posey, and Pablo) keep hot…good things will happen.
Me too again on taking two in KC. Its Bumgarner, Hudson and Timmy. Haven’t looked up the Royals starters for the 3 yet, but our starters are pretty formidable.
Hopefully a good series in KC. Although I have memories of Giants weirdness there. Zito hitting two guys in the same inning. Lincecum getting upended on a tag play at the plate. And the Giants generally wilting in the Midwestern funky humidity.
But- baseball is all about new chapters getting written. Opportunities for cool things to happen.
It’d be great if the players got a chance to visit the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame. It would be an awesome experience for them.
The analyst in the Niner game made me slightly chuckle. Talking about the Ravens’ offensive line, he said “They’ve struggled blocking people.” I don’t think we needed the “blocking people” part. What else do you expect of the offensive line except blocking people?
So the Dodgers got Roberto Hernandez — already a player to be named later — from the Phillies for two players to be named later or cash considerations.
He’s just a cheap pick-up 4th/5th starter to replace Becket. Becket most likely done for the year with his hip injury. His last 3 or 4 starts have been pretty good and he’s due to start tomorrow in Milwaukee.
He sucks. And since when do the Dodgers do shit on the cheap? They don’t have something better in the minor leagues than “Man of a 1000 Names?”. I do appreciate that they are wheeling and dealing, something our GM is afraid to do this year.
“He sucks” Ha! Yeah, hence the “4th/5th starter label. How many 4th/5th starters don’t suck? Nobody down on the farm knocking on the door right now to warrant a call-up, no. Zach Lee not having a great season – he needs more seasoning.
Preseason football, lots of mistakes as usual, penalties, rust, just sloppy play on 49ers side.
Even dumbshit Chris O’Donnell looked silly talking to Harbaugh as he’s going to the locker room at halftime and sayin: So coach what did you think of Gabbert’s performance( which sucked) and Harbaugh would give his usual, thought he did a few things ok routine, So then he asked him is he gonna start the 2nd half? .No we’re going with Josh Johnson, and O’Donnell looked dumbfounded and said, Well the 49ers will start a QB in the second half, just don’t know who? Uhh Jim just said Johnson will start, you idiot, and the crew in the booth after you blundered it said it will be Josh Johnson with a chuckle as they went to commercial..
Alex Rios has cleared revocable waivers. Anybody looking for a corner outfielder with a decent OBP and some doubles-triples slash power can dangle a moderate prospect or two and probably land him. His HR production has fallen off the board but for a team with plenty of outfield room, a fairly modest budget commitment for the rest of the season and need for a platoon sergeant and a strong bat off the bench needs to get their offer to the fast-sinking Texas Rangers.
Fielder went down, Ron Washington is the most overrated manager in baseball, they had a couple more injuries, their bullpen includes Jerome Williams among other notables, and they don’t have a single decent starting pitcher after Yu-D.
Next question….
See – that’s why I drop in here – to pick up little nuggets of info like that. Concise – short and sweet.
Besides checking to see if twin is still posting here, of course – glad to see that he is.
Craig I’d love to have many betters players but why all the hate. Morse has been awful for more than a month and check this out…
Posey 13 hr 57 rbi .285
Pablo 14 55 rbi .287
Morse 15 52 rbi .272
Why the hate?? We you expecting more? From a production per dollar he is kicking Posey’s ass. Pablo looking at $15 – 20 Mil per…Yes I know his defense sucks, but how many runs has posey given up with subpar defense for a catcher? I love Posey, and like Panda too…just saying Morse isn’t that bad for what we should be expecting…
Morse has driven in 14 runs since the end of May. That’s a joke. He’s here to drive in runs and try not to give up too many with his shit defense.
Sorry, but 14 runs out of your supposed run producer since the end of May is a j-o-k-e

Yep…he certainly, in many ways, reminds me of Robby.
Welcome back Morse. It was almost as if Morse was reading my posts!
Remember the killer B’s on the Astros???
Now we have the Brandons and the killer P’s
Pagan, Pence, Posey, and the Panda will make it easy for Peavy to get his 1st SF win…
PS Panik will chip in too!
As long as Giants aren’t using weapons from Acme Batting Co., they should do just fine.
lqtm…yes. NO bats from Acme!
If, just once more, Peavy can pitch as brilliantly as the last time out, that five-year $120-million extension will look even better.
Dude, that was hilarious. Stay up all night thinking that one up?
Pagan is back. Beep beep!
Pagan CF
Pence RF

Have you guys heard of this kick start campaign for a Bonds statue?
http://tinyurl.com/lwtjbwq
They’ve raised $31K so far. That would be pretty interesting to see if it comes to fruition.
Detroit has a Robocop statue? Hilarious.
HA! That stood out to me too.
Shit, if that’s the case, they should erect one for Eminem.
How about Jack White instead?
That works too . . . By the by, loved Blunderbuss.
Right next to Ted Nugent.
Belt suffering from headaches last night. No bueno. Hopefully just the heat and humidity getting to him. Dude seems to be snake bitten.
Post concussion trauma one may suppose. Hot sun today at 1B might have exacerbated it.
No shit. Hopefully Belt’s back tomorrow.
Stickman, watching Belt in person Monday, his timing seemed off all day. I was yelling from my seat (and I am loud enough and could certainly hear me from seats near home) that he was swinging late and to get his bat going earlier. Did not quite work.
Blade and Dirt, seeing Jack White in September….
GH: Nice to get confirmation from someone who was at the scene. My perspective was merely logical deduction.

Pagan salutes are back baby!
Welcome back, Angel!
He was a cheat, a blatant liar and a first class jerk, not to mention a convicted felon. No statue ever.
One opinion of many, and realistically, you are probably in the minority. It will happen. When, is subjective, but it will happen.

We doing anything vs Peralta?
Peavy reached 1b on a strike out and wild pitch, singles by Pagan and Pence and its tied at 1-1.
Thanks, Jon Miller…
Thanks for tuning in to YOUR Giants radio network.
Pencinator!
FUCK! Two on, no out, and you can’t get another run across…that is just fucking sad. Off to a meeting. Hoping to come back to a Gigante lead!

Oh well. Didn’t hold out too much hope for this one.
Games cast says injury time out. Did Panik get hurt?
Still in as far as I know. Must still have that delay going.
Could have been worse, nice job Gutteriez, Get it going boys, rally time!
Was Ishi even trying to bunt?
down by 2 chuck?
Don’t matter. Scratch one out. Last inning anyway.
Time to slaughter this pen again.
Got to like Panik. He’s really hitting these last few games. Crawfish needs a reprise of his first game at the brewyard.
Game going about as i expected. What the eff is with Crawford? Pretty lame ABs these last couple games. Personally i’m kinda tempted to go with Duffy at SS for a game or two. Could be Craw’s dragging a bit here in the dog daze of August.
Susac battled, but FRod is tough. Ya better bring game when he is on.
I. Get. Tired. Of. Blanco. In. These. Situations.
Yeah, Crawfish has fallen off the table. Well. Off to KC. Hopefully we’ll take a pair there.
Well, that’s the game, but I’m damn glad Pagan is back. Things can only get better . . . right?
Pagan not only back but contributed a couple hits ~ better he did in his Fresnobrief. Now it’s a matter of Belt feeling better. Might not happen in KC because of heat and humiliated relatives, though as a native of Nacogdoces, Texas that would not bother him a bit normally. I had back problems in my early 30s, but I was out for only a week. Sissy man, Pagan. And I admire Pagan.
Hmmm, doesn’t sound quite right when applied to a living myth!
Yeah, sliding into your cubicle must be tough duty James. 😉
Definitely not as tough as the public shame Zumie faced with those stitches!
Yeah, 6th graders are known for their high level of empathy. 🙂
Well Zum, I can definitely relate to what you said about the flu. Usually I’m bed-ridden for 3 days max. However, the one year I didn’t get my flu shot, it was as if I had Ebola symptoms . . . Chi, don’t forget Panik . . . He’s hit in 4 straight games now. I would love to see him bat 2nd and Pence moved in front of Morse.
Me too again on taking two in KC. Its Bumgarner, Hudson and Timmy. Haven’t looked up the Royals starters for the 3 yet, but our starters are pretty formidable.
New phenom Baez, has 2 bombs today at Coors Canaveral . . . Glad I have a share of him in one FL league.

absolutely. And he fills a spot next year so we can let Morse go……
A 34 year old, now with a 735 OPS while playing in a live yard? Morse is certainly having a better year.
Morse sucks. But it’s nice to see you’re enjoying his year.
However you want to describe him, other than Pence, Morse has done as much for the Giants this year as anyone else.
And he’s sucked less than Rios has.

Sorry, but 14 runs out of your supposed run producer since the end of May is a j-o-k-e

IMO Rios has the edge due to his wheels and defense (not shown here), albeit, they have both sucked in the last 30 games.
If Sabean had only exercised Zito’s option, all this anguish would never have happened.
You need to exercise your brain more to come up with better shit than this, skippy.
Ambulance chasing got you down?
