A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Getting Ready For a W

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 24, 2014

I just saw a tweet that has to be wrong: Petit is 7 hitters away from the all time record of 45 consecutive batters retired. Wow. That’s incredible.

Feeling REALLY good about today’s match up. Voggy is tough as nails and while Strasburg is good at home (and in general) he’s still just a man. We have a team full of men.

Hope everyone out here made it through last night’s quake ok. It woke me up but we’re 70 miles away so it wasn’t a real big deal. Kinda reminded me of back in the day with the ladies. Hey now!

All right, the weather is clear in DC, no rain on the way, and our sunrise continues to rise high in the sky.

Go Giants!

Didn’t our very own Jim Barr have about 60?

    • DJLoo's avatar DJLoo said, on August 24, 2014 at 9:12 am

      No, only 41, moron…

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on August 24, 2014 at 9:26 am

Off the top of my head, I would’ve guessed 38 or 39. I remember that Barr’s incredible streak was one of the very few things to be proud of as a Giants fan during the 70s.

  2. willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 24, 2014 at 9:29 am

Flav, sure you can keep this up for another week? Lincecum next start would be at home Friday vs. Mil, after that vs. Colo on road, next 2 home/away vs. AZ (minus Golds of course). Hmmnn.

Bottom of LA order last night was Butera, Arruebarena at SS Miguel Rojas at 3b but they still scored 7 to make up for less than stellar Greinke. Correia goes today so hopefully Mets keep Rooster from any more crowing.

Giants get the Cargo and Tulo-less Rox into ATT for 4 starting Monday…hopefully without any further *rocking* in bay area than what we got this morning.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 24, 2014 at 9:33 am

Didn’t count today. Tim scheduled to start day game vs. Rox at home Thursday, then vs. them again there Tuesday, then AZ and LA here.

First sorry Dirt for not responding after posting about the rain before yesterday’s game. Yes, was at the game to the left and behind home plate if anyone saw me and my Giants Cain jersey five rows back.

So after posting we stayed in the bar to wait out the rain delay.

And now to Flav’s comment about the rain. Best part of all the rain, I can look out back in our rural home in late August and everything is green. And we have actually had the most mild summer since I have been here. Usually pushing 100 degrees with heat index this time of year. It was in the 60s when we left for the game yesterday in the middle of the rain storm.

And Flav, did I get the trivia question right????

Okay: So how many of you have never indulged in good, green graciousness. Could be Timmy’s problem, ya know. He mentioned after his latest hoo-haa that he has been thinking too much in his starts.

There is a cure for that. Proportion would be about 5 eights indica and 3 8ths sativa. To my way of reckoning anyhoo. Timmy needs to just do it. Get out there and grab the magic. Hard to do if you think too much. Throwing anything from rocks to socks whether or not i’ve indulged ~ if i just do it muscle memory along with some Je ne sais quoi kicking in, good things happen. Thinking while throwing or tossing and its usually a mess.

But with the holy war on drugz and the heavy Rockefeller investments in big pharma our prostiticians stay bought.

Grew up reading box scores before cable and the internet. The only way to see how McCovey, Bonds J Clark and the boys did the night before. Still do on the weekends at least.
Almost all the other teams yesterday looked like this 7 hits, 5 runs…6 hits 4 runs, 12 hits 8 runs..You get the idea.
In two games this week we had a total of 20 hits and scored just 3 runs. Anyone else notice how often we get 1 or 2 hits in an inning like just now, and then get out? How does a team get 11 hits in a game and score once?

Giants brain trust has to be aware of what’s going on early games with Timmeh. Giants bats look like they’re waking up some, and you can’t put the squad in a huge hole in the first and/or second inning every damn time Tim starts. Last night’s post game yak session with the announcers and today’s Kruk and Kuip KNBR radio show seemed to have Timmy missing at least the next start as a given, though not saying so directly. Lurie was less conclusory, wondering what the alternative is if they put Timmeh in the Pen, with Petit the likely one, but with a far less than glorious record as a starter. Tough situation, but I think they have to shelve Tim from starting at least temporarily. You’ve got to have a starter even at the end of the rotation that at least has a shot at giving the squad a chance to win. I think he’s burnt mentally from trying to fix this, and needs a break of some sort…

  32. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on August 24, 2014 at 12:12 pm

Prime example there of why it’s really debatable to bring back Voggy next season. In just the 4th, yet he’s struggling to put guys away, as if he’s tired already. Really would have been great to give up just the one run, but he’s given up the two now. He’s a battler, but it’s too bad he’s on the wrong side of 35…

I remember him getting pounded down the stretch in 2012. I was in the stands for his last regular season start at Petco and it was a cacophony of loud outs. I thought he was going to be total crap in the playoffs, and he ended up doing just the opposite.
