Getting Ready For a W
I just saw a tweet that has to be wrong: Petit is 7 hitters away from the all time record of 45 consecutive batters retired. Wow. That’s incredible.
Feeling REALLY good about today’s match up. Voggy is tough as nails and while Strasburg is good at home (and in general) he’s still just a man. We have a team full of men.
Hope everyone out here made it through last night’s quake ok. It woke me up but we’re 70 miles away so it wasn’t a real big deal. Kinda reminded me of back in the day with the ladies. Hey now!
All right, the weather is clear in DC, no rain on the way, and our sunrise continues to rise high in the sky.
Go Giants!
Didn’t our very own Jim Barr have about 60?
No, only 41, moron…
Off the top of my head, I would’ve guessed 38 or 39. I remember that Barr’s incredible streak was one of the very few things to be proud of as a Giants fan during the 70s.
Flav, sure you can keep this up for another week? Lincecum next start would be at home Friday vs. Mil, after that vs. Colo on road, next 2 home/away vs. AZ (minus Golds of course). Hmmnn.
Bottom of LA order last night was Butera, Arruebarena at SS Miguel Rojas at 3b but they still scored 7 to make up for less than stellar Greinke. Correia goes today so hopefully Mets keep Rooster from any more crowing.
Giants get the Cargo and Tulo-less Rox into ATT for 4 starting Monday…hopefully without any further *rocking* in bay area than what we got this morning.
Didn’t count today. Tim scheduled to start day game vs. Rox at home Thursday, then vs. them again there Tuesday, then AZ and LA here.
First sorry Dirt for not responding after posting about the rain before yesterday’s game. Yes, was at the game to the left and behind home plate if anyone saw me and my Giants Cain jersey five rows back.
So after posting we stayed in the bar to wait out the rain delay.
And now to Flav’s comment about the rain. Best part of all the rain, I can look out back in our rural home in late August and everything is green. And we have actually had the most mild summer since I have been here. Usually pushing 100 degrees with heat index this time of year. It was in the 60s when we left for the game yesterday in the middle of the rain storm.
And Flav, did I get the trivia question right????
I don’t know, I never looked it up. lol

I guess “Crazy Glass” needs a day off.
Glass in Spanish: Cristal
Yesterday’s outing was more or less what we expected, but Timmy still has some trade value: http://tinyurl.com/lgn2gaz
I got an email from Twin (that I initiated) and he said a glass frame fell on him giving him a slight cut but otherwise he and his wife are fine.
Good news.
Apparently quite a few folks got cut by flying glass, and ended up in the ER…
Felt it in Santa Cruz last night. Hoping everything is still on the shelves when we get home
This lead deserves a,ahem, rim shot meme of some sort.
i thought black kids playing baseball was on the decline. Congrats to these kids! Making the USA proud!
Shark-nado!
The game is on TBS for those of us outside the Bay Area. Unfortunately, it comes with Ernie Johnsondoing the play-by-play.
Okay: So how many of you have never indulged in good, green graciousness. Could be Timmy’s problem, ya know. He mentioned after his latest hoo-haa that he has been thinking too much in his starts.
There is a cure for that. Proportion would be about 5 eights indica and 3 8ths sativa. To my way of reckoning anyhoo. Timmy needs to just do it. Get out there and grab the magic. Hard to do if you think too much. Throwing anything from rocks to socks whether or not i’ve indulged ~ if i just do it muscle memory along with some Je ne sais quoi kicking in, good things happen. Thinking while throwing or tossing and its usually a mess.
But with the holy war on drugz and the heavy Rockefeller investments in big pharma our prostiticians stay bought.
Blanco power!
no walk on the 3/1 pitch…hr instead…ok
El Tiburon Blanco! Whodda thunk it. Guess Strasburg didn’t wanna walk him. We’ll take it. First blood usually is a good sign for the Gigantes.
Blanco hitting that lead off bomb reminded me of the at bat Torres had a few years ago v Strasburg in his first game pitched v the Giants
I remember that, from the ’10 season. That might’ve been all they got off Strasburg.
pretty sure you’re right. No idea why that image of him hitting that bomb has stuck with me. Probably because it was such a surprise. He crushed it, too
Grew up reading box scores before cable and the internet. The only way to see how McCovey, Bonds J Clark and the boys did the night before. Still do on the weekends at least.
Almost all the other teams yesterday looked like this 7 hits, 5 runs…6 hits 4 runs, 12 hits 8 runs..You get the idea.
In two games this week we had a total of 20 hits and scored just 3 runs. Anyone else notice how often we get 1 or 2 hits in an inning like just now, and then get out? How does a team get 11 hits in a game and score once?
Ah! Ishikawa poussé, poussé!
What song is that from? A John Lennon post-Beatles song—right? Instant Karma perhaps?
Merry Christmas—(War Is Over)? #9 Dream perhaps??
Excellent SanDawg! Yes, Dream #9. And I actually heard the song on the radio this morning.
Battle of the pitch counts ~ tied at 24 ea. after one. Second inning may show which starter goes long.
Ishi to opposite field…this stuff just doesn’t happen at ATT. Maybe on the road is where they wanna be in playoff too.
I hope Vogey gets a couple of these strike calls that have gone against Blanco.
Speaking of Torres, maybe Ishikawa can have a breakout run down the stretch? Would be a good story for a nice, humble guy, who has certainly paid his dues.
We now welcome you to that portion of the telecast where we reduce the picture of the game to conduct a pointless in-dugout interview. Oh by the way, a single by Pence.
I’ll hand it to Ishi, he’s helped out since he’s been up. My eyes rolled a big “been there done that” when they brought him back to Fresno after he got cut from Balty or wherever — but with Belt out, he’s definitely been a plus…
Hella AB right there. I luv the sac fly, where you don’t have to get a hit to get a run in.
Wow Morse scores on Craw hit and Giants up 5-0 on Stras. Yeow!
quake? what quake? SF still standing? City Lights?
The world turned upside down! WS redux stars Ishi and Blanco blast away. #questfor3
Spring is the air…
-in the air
Referring to seeing Morse with fist held high
Seriously, just finding out about the quake from here. Hope all of you are well, with no property damage. How the heck did hothead Peavy get ejected?
Panik, great AB for the walk. That was huge. I’m really impressed by Panik’s ABs so far. That allowed Ishi to not be pressured so he got the nice sac fly, and then Craw — solid RBI single. Gotta like the add on inning, fueled by the bottom of the order. Keep it going, boys…
That’s what I’m talkin about!!! Walks, Great AB by Morse. Great preesure Sac Fly, 2 out hits. That is fun to watch!
Giants brain trust has to be aware of what’s going on early games with Timmeh. Giants bats look like they’re waking up some, and you can’t put the squad in a huge hole in the first and/or second inning every damn time Tim starts. Last night’s post game yak session with the announcers and today’s Kruk and Kuip KNBR radio show seemed to have Timmy missing at least the next start as a given, though not saying so directly. Lurie was less conclusory, wondering what the alternative is if they put Timmeh in the Pen, with Petit the likely one, but with a far less than glorious record as a starter. Tough situation, but I think they have to shelve Tim from starting at least temporarily. You’ve got to have a starter even at the end of the rotation that at least has a shot at giving the squad a chance to win. I think he’s burnt mentally from trying to fix this, and needs a break of some sort…
Prime example there of why it’s really debatable to bring back Voggy next season. In just the 4th, yet he’s struggling to put guys away, as if he’s tired already. Really would have been great to give up just the one run, but he’s given up the two now. He’s a battler, but it’s too bad he’s on the wrong side of 35…
There’s no wrong side of Nicole…
Whenever he pitches like this, there should be.
If SF makes the playoffs, I think that at the end of the day, they will find that they are shy one good starting pitcher.
Bumgarner and Hud and pray for a flood?
Nate! This is interesting.
Thank you Nate.
Yeah. No way he takes any ABs from Harper Span or Werth, so LH/PH is gonna be his job…to lose I imagine.
thankfully the bad Nate
I wonder how much the black youths of Washington, DC are able to relate to all these white guys with red beards.
Wow, thanks to Shitholz for the pop out to keep it 5-2.
Bochy has to have a short leash now for Voggy. Can’t waste dropping a 5 spot on Strasburg…
Vogs is what he is, but surprisingly (or not) he hasn’t been as bad as Cain or Lincecum who are both making helluva lot more than he is. And he did have these guys shut down before last inning, outdueling Stras.
Boy, nice to see Panik getting another knock, and Craw maybe waking up with another hit. Still think Craw needs a day or two off…
They tried that already. Didn’t help.
Three days off?… 🙂
Speaking of someone who just “is who he is”: BCraw. Hope that an early hot streak signals a big change for the better, but same stats at the end of every year.
Voggy taking too many pitches to get loud outs. Fingers crossed he gets past the 5th, and then get the Pen ready…
They’ve been hitting ropes off of Vogey all game long. Just my impression, but a few of his recent quality starts have also featured an inordinate number of hard hit balls for outs. He may be due for another stretch of getting pasted.
I’m sure it averages out, James . . .
Yep, that would be my point, Chuck. 🙂
Sounds like Vogey has a good At-em Ball going today. Miller and Flem are cracking each other up with “Vogs is pitching to contact today” comments.
Hit the chair, get a triple!
It’s almost like the radio broadcasts are now far enough out of the public sphere that they could sprinkle a “Jesus Fuckin’ Christ” into their commentary, if they wanted to .
Vogey is a riddle surrounded by a mystery and shrouded by an enigma. (On a scale of 1-10, how badly did I butcher that?)
I remember him getting pounded down the stretch in 2012. I was in the stands for his last regular season start at Petco and it was a cacophony of loud outs. I thought he was going to be total crap in the playoffs, and he ended up doing just the opposite.
Fun Fact: Today is the anniversary of the Halicki no-hitter! Has that been mentioned?
Blanco!
Just when you get fed up again with Blanco, he has a nice game. I’ll thank him for his efforts today and the rest of the season, and then waive goodby and goodluck. Good RBI pick up by Pence. Looks like the squad is getting back in the mode of some solid ABs with RISP…
Blanco is also simply getting back to where he usually is. His stats are pretty consistent from year to year.
They just showed it on the broadcast. Way to go, pence!
Part of Vogs btw pitch time has to be blamed on Span. Kruk timed it at 30 full seconds btw each pitch, just ridiculous.
I’ve posted this before, but I remember as a kid watching Cuban winter league games in black and white. They had a rule where ump could call a strike if batter took his time getting in box and I remember it being used.
Bout time it happened again.
Pen pen time.
No surprise there at that HR after the 5th inning tattooed outs. And, the hook for Voggy. They really need to replace him with somebody younger next season.
Damn it , Morse. Catch that thing.
When’s the last time Affeldt really sailed through an inning?…
2012?
Ouch
No at-ems for Affeldt.
Friggin Affeldt and his wild ass curveballs. Giants just can’t piss this one away.
Yikes, now another Hairston batting?..
Affeldt is dogshit
cluster fuck inning
Get him the fuck outta there!
my hats off to you guys who can watch them since june,…I’m out
Niner time
hind site I know but 97 pitches..Voggy should stay in. FUCK
Have the Giants every gotten a guy named Hairston out over the last 5 years?…
no way we are letting the nats come back, we are the never say die team.
hurrummpphh
Well, that helps. Fuck Affeldt wow.
Machi so far more accurate throwing to 1st than home. I thought no way Posey was getting that first pitch.
Well, Morse’s defensive problems rose up to bite big time in this one. If he doesn’t misplay that liner into a double, all this probably doesn’t happen. And, Affeldt officially suxx until proved otherwise…
Yes, if your pitchers give up 10 line drives to a subpar defensive left fielder in a game, the chances are good that he will “bungle” one of them.
It’s been batting practice all day long for the Nats. We’re lucky — or unfortunate — that this isn’t one of those 20 run blow outs.
I’m getting balder with every pitch this inning.
Looks like the Sept callups can’t come early enough for this Pen. Anybody with an arm attached is eligible to be called up…
The Giants always did have trouble with the Expos.
lqtm
Top nominee for clusterF inning of the year…
If you bust 5 off of Strasburg and lose, that is an absolute pisser.
Machi’s been used a lot lately, but I don’t seem to remember Affeldt has been overused. He was abused today.
They need to bounce back now against a good Pen…
tough inning. But they’re still in this. I’m growing tired of Affeldt.
Just as Gyro bats seem to be waking up a little, the pitching is tanking…
well, this is a very good team they’re playing–that line up is stacked top to bottom
Agreed. Probably best balanced LU in the NL. That Astrubal Cabrera dude, who I don’t know nuttin’ about, it only hitting .246, but has a .420 SLG. That’s wild. He’s a pain in the butt as a #7 or #8 hitter. I don’t see any NL team better, the Nats have to be the favorite to go to the WS right now. Good starting pitching, tough lineup, good Pen…
Nats may score more today than the Niners…
Is there a bereavement list for fans?
We’ve been on it since June…
