A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Winning Big and Flying HIGH

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 1, 2014

I’m not sure, but I think 15 runs is the most runs I’ve seen the Giants score (in person). I’m guessing I’ve been to 250 games or so in my life. I vaguely remember being at a game in the 80’s where Darrell Evans hit an absolute BOMB into the bleachers (and a second one later in the game) and the team won 18-1. But I might have just dreamed that.

There is a fairly hilarious video taken of me dancing inside the stadium. If my buddy decides to send it to me, I’ll post it here. It’s good to be able to laugh at yourself.

Headed into altitude now. And I’m not just talking about Coors Field. This team is flying HIGH these days!

interesting observation about the Lincecum appearance. When he got called into the game the crowd went INSANE and gave him what felt like a one minute STANDING ovation. After Braun hit that monster bomb there was barely a low groan from the crowd. But every time he would throw a simple strike they erupted in celebration. It was the oddest scene—40K literally trying to will their former hero back to glory…….

as many of you know, my daughter doesn’t give much of a shit about baseball. That always makes taking her a bit of a financial grind since I know she won’t appreciate the seat she gets ($350 for the 6 of us to sit in the center field bleachers) and I know going in that I’m on the hook for buying her some gear once inside the park because she likes the “look” of a Giants fan.

So around the 4th inning she’s bored and wants to shop. Check out how many freaking people are in this store in the middle of the game! If anyone wonders how much dough the Giants haul in with merchandise sales, well, they just shouldn’t wonder anymore….

I got out of there pretty clean– 1 tank top for $32 and arm socks for $15. At least she LOOKS like a fan. 🙂 Cute as hell too.

At great risk of upsetting our mojo as the boys head into that house of horrors, as snarkk called it, to play the Rockies’ warped brand of baseball:

    Sept. 2013: 16-11
    Sept. 2012: 19-8

26 games left (or is it 25.5?). 28 days. Time for another big-time stretch drive and a September to remember. Let’s go Giants!

Now that the bats are warmed up it could be that SF is ready to go wild in the Box of Rox. Hudson, Peavey and Vogelsong are not the types to get too intimidated by the current Sherpa lineup. Time to kick some ass.

Nice photos, BF. My experience is it doesn’t matter when you go into that ATT Dugout store, whether before, after or during a game. The place is a cha ching money printing machine, one of many bulging revenue streams. That’s why I laugh when I hear about the Giants “budget”…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 1, 2014 at 11:50 am

Actually, my experience before or after the game – there is usually a line waiting to get in. I have frequently given up because the line is daunting or once you get in, it’s almost impossible to walk around. Looking at that photo, it looks like a “slow day.” However, the point both of you make is valid.

I guess I should have been more clear. Whenever I’ve been in there, regardless of time in relation to game, it’s been a zoo. Sometimes, yeah, you can barely move or turn around in the aisles. I guess the fire dept. lets it slide. The cash registers are smokin’…

I am confused, what happened to the suspended game?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 11:56 am

They start that game first, in the exact place in the game where it got suspended. 6th inning I think, and Rockies up. Tulo was up, but he’s now on the DL, so Rocks will put in a PH for him to re-start the game. The full 9 will be played, like a regular game. Start time is 1:10 Pacific time. After the suspended game is finished, there will be about a 20 minute pause, then the regularly scheduled game for today will begin. I assume people with tix to the suspended game can get in to see it finished with their tix stubs, then will have to leave the game if they don’t have tix for the next game. Not sure how that works…

Great to see you here, Ed.

  9. eddacker's avatar eddacker said, on September 1, 2014 at 12:01 pm

Ah, ha! it is the time zone thing. I saw 1.10pm and thought that was eastern time as is used on mlb.com but I must have been on SFGiants.com where they use pacific. So I clicked on watch game and K&K are saying Tim Hudson is pitching but THAT was a replay of the original game I realised as soon as I saw Cuddy batting and hicks at second.
SO . . . still 2 hours till game time and
    Go Gigantes!

yes, closer to one half hour now. I am, for any reason as any other, looking forward to being in California because I can watch the game in real time on television or in person (even better)

Why would the Astros fire their manager at this point, after nearly 2 seasons on the job. The team has been playing better this year, obviously in an undermanned state. Not that I care about the Stros, but I am interested in baseball, and it seems pretty ridiculous, unless there was a major personality clash…

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 1:19 pm

That team is an absolute train wreck.

  11. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 12:48 pm

Juan Perez is a callup, Gary Brown not. If I’m Gary Brown, that tells me that after 4 years I need to agitate for a trade to a new organization, since I’m obviously going nowhere within the Giants. At a .707 OPS in Fresburg, he’s not going to bring much in return…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 1, 2014 at 1:12 pm

Call me crazy, but if I am Gary Brown, I’m thinking 2 things: 1. I better start freakin’ playing better; 2. Or, Plan B, which is registering at California State University, Fullerton (where he went to school) to get the degree he thought he wouldn’t need, because he was too busy partying and being BMOC.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 1:20 pm

So happy you got to see a great game, Flavor. And your daughter is a doll (one other thing that you and I have in common beside being huge fans – we both are blessed with lovely daughters). Maybe she will come around (my daughter is hard core and has been for a while, but it was not always that way). But even if Kate doesn’t become a big fan, it is all good!

LET’S PLAY TWO! Well…how about one and a half…what a fucking trip to be picking-up this game, mid-game. So many changes on both teams from when the game started. And while today is roster expansion day, they cannot use any of those call-ups in the resumed game.

Doesn’t fucking matter…September baseball and as you say, the boys are flying high!

    GO GIANTS!

Speaking of suspended games- what’s up with yesterday’s Royals game being suspended? 4-2 in extra innings. I thought if one of the teams has a lead and it’s at or past the official game mark, then it’s a game. I guess I could look that up, but I guess I’m not that motivated about it. Anyone know it off the top of their head?

Giants WHIP at 1.16 is best in the league. Second in both walks and hits given up. ERA is fifth or sixth. Overall hitting is 6th in several categories ~ and generally on an uptick.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:09 pm

He may have done that to give himself up and make sure Arias scored as they cut off the throw home, with the pitcher coming up to hit. At least, the radio guys seem to think Arias might have been out on the throw had it gone through, so that “give up” scenario seems very plausible. Runners do that fairly often if they think they can stall getting out until after the runner scores…

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:11 pm

Ed – not sure if you saw my earlier reply. I sent you a message via FB with my contact info. Call me when you are rambling around on hiway 49. I’ll buy ya lunch and a cold one.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:15 pm

Me too. Living in paradise…can you make a swing over to Old Hangtown (Placerville) when you are in these neck of the woods?

      • eddacker's avatar eddacker said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:24 pm

You still in hangtown? I thought you moved. But, yeah, Placerville is in my comfort zone.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Moved to Placerville in December, Ed. Was in Camino prior to that.

I swear, Crawford is Johnny (Boot) LeMaster…make the tough spectacular plays, and boot the easy ones…

  55. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:24 pm

The resumed game skipped right along…and here we are only in the 2nd inning of the “night cap.”

  56. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Craw baby! Yeah, get your bat hot, too, and on the 0-2 count…

  57. stickman's avatar stickman said, on September 1, 2014 at 3:52 pm

CrawDaddy may only be hitting .230, but his 54th and 55th RBI’s this afternoon indicate that he’s deadly with ducks on the pond. Seems that baserunners in scoring position bring out something extra in him.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:44 pm

Well, there were a number of Flappers who wanted to run his ass outta town of late. I have said nothing, but part of the problem with his average is he has been hitting in the 8 hole a lot. And you don’t get many quality pitches to hit there. I’m good with Craw until they have a better option.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:47 pm

Maybe next year they can spell him some more with Duffy, that kid looks like a future utility man possibility…

Any way to see it for those of us who do not tweet?

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:53 pm

don’t think so. It’s a google doc vid so I seemed to have limited options on where I could post it. Not sure you even need a twitter acct to view tweets but I could be wrong about that.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:57 pm

I don’t twitter, I saw it. Anybody can view it, just click on it…

Danger time for Huddy. 88 pitch count at altitude.
Get the Pen a little warm…

  62. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:48 pm

Agree, snarkk. If he gives up a hit/run there, I think you have to go to the pen.

  63. chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:48 pm

Time to go to the pen. Come on Bochy…

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:55 pm

  70. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Need to stop this bullshit defense right now. Why is Panik dropping balls? And, Bochy was 2 batters late changing out Huddy. I don’t understand that slow move to the Pen…

  71. WilcoJoe's avatar WilcoJoe said, on September 1, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Snarkk, the Astros GM and Bo Porter had a falling out on Friday in front of a couple members of the media. Luhnow apparently had been very critical of Porter’s game management decisions ( in many instances, rightly so) so he gave him the heave ho…I thought it was a pretty chicken shit move to do and it has now confirmed my suspicions that Luhnow is a piece of shit. The Houston Chronicle has a great young beat writer (Evan Drellich?) who has uncovered a lot of shit that takes place behind closed doors, this story included. It’s his first year covering the club and he has done a stellar job of speaking the truth.

combined no hitters are lame-o. All that tells me is that the opposing batters were completely checked out. No chance 3 or 4 guys all show up in a game with no-hit stuff unless the hitters are just not into it or flailing…..
