Why Hasn’t Ray McDonald Been Suspended Yet?
Niner Thread because I’ve been disturbed by this since I found out about it over the weekend……
Jim Harbaugh was on KNBR this morning proclaiming how he’ll never tolerate domestic violence from any player on his team. It was a cute speech. Forgive me if I gag. Why is Ray McDonald still practicing with the team? Why hasn’t he been suspended pending this investigation? Pay him, I don’t give a shit. That’s what they do with cops and other people who get suspended during an investigation.
There is no time to wait for this to work itself out in court. That could take a while and besides, the NFL isn’t bound by the legal system when it comes to suspending players. Ray Rice didn’t get convicted of shit. So, regardless of what you think of his absurd 2 game suspension, waiting around for the legal system to sort this out and THEN react is idiotic. And unnecessary.
The Niners have a terrible track record with addressing their out of control players off field behavior. Example: Aldon Smith left a drunk tank at 11am and then practiced THAT DAY. And he played every snap of the game that week. Despicable. He was asleep at the wheel at 6am on a residential street doing a 16 inch burner in some dudes lawn for 3 minutes. And a point of interest: Ray McDonald lives on this street…..
They fucked up then and they are fucking up now. Suspend McDonald immediately. There is ample evidence to do so. His pregnant girlfriend has bruises all over her face and neck. How did they get there? I don’t know but that is enough evidence to suspend him. Suspend him while you are doing due diligence. And it should have happened immediately upon his arrest and the pics of his pregnant girlfriend. The New England Patriots cut Aaron Hernandez THE DAY he got arrested…..
The Niners need to act right now, not spout off bullshit about how “domestic violence will never be tolerated.” Please. Who the fuck DOES tolerate domestic violence (or support it)? Words mean nothing. Act now or the easy going Niner fan base is going to react with a severe backlash. Mark my words, this will affect them at the gate and elsewhere if the team allows this dipshit to play this weekend……
A question I’d love to hear Harbs answer: If Ray Rice was on your team, would you let him play? Or would you release him since you have no tolerance for domestic violence? And yeah, it was your own bro who fucked that one up.
Jim Harbaugh is at a critical point in his career right now. This will affect his legacy and everything he does going forward. This has nothing to do with the legal system and/or Ray McDonald’s rights. The NFL isn’t bound by that system or his rights anyway.
The Niners have the ball right now. And so far, they are engaging in a long, slow fumble……
Just get within 2 and I’ll take my chances against Latroy in the 9th again…
Works for me, and yes, Kickham was my Paul Splittorf look-alike. Forgot about that.
Rockie telecasts are sponsored by 5 different pizza chains.
What is up with that?
Payback time!
Didn’t Lenny Lyles play offense as well as defensive back for Colts? Niners were often crummy in those days but Colts were great.
Giants on comeback trail 7-6! This game is so NOT over.
Fuck yeah!
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
a Denny shout out, nice.
I miss that lunatic…
I miss the “before he went insane” lunatic…..
Holy crap
I like Blanco in the 6 spot tonight.
Despite Pablo’s tight belted waistline fuck up hitting tonight, we are still playing hard and competing…..
“Six runs is no big deal in this park. Hold ‘em here and start chippin’ away.”
Good call big guy. 🙂
You’ve said it yourself many times…
Now, I am enjoying this hitting the boys are doing.
Looks like the domestic abuse debate is on hold, Flav….
Did little Bochy get into the game? (I took a break to watch Jeopardy)
I had my doubt’s after Kickham…
Sueeeeeesac!
Is the Rockie’s camera crew affected by the altitude too?
Timmy anyone?
40 runs in the last 4 games . . . the 10 runs were inevitable.
I turned on Houdini on the history channel at 7:30….The Giants are doing their own magic since!
Don’t feel bad…I almost bailed, too, Wins.
Holy crap, they’re winning!
WOW. Some other teams turn to blow a big lead…
Bring in a fat Dominican.
Any fat Dominican.
I miss Ozzie Guillen’s *high/wide* call to the bullpen in the world series to bring in that fat fuck closer. Can’t remember his name…..
Jenks–the same guy who broke Barr’s record.
Damn it, Assfeldt trying to blow our lead.
Uh oh…Romo? Has Bochy gone mad?
I knew that would result in an out. 😉
Romo gets it done. That was huge.
Hilarius fuck up.
Five more runs and I think we can relax boys. 🙂
I’m outraged that Pence is not on second.
Hunter knew he let us down!
Skahill? Sounds like the Kennedy clan dude who beat a girl to death with a golf club back in the day.
The problem with hitting here, is that when you go onto the next city, you can usually forget about “being lights out” and continuing to rake . . . Doesn’t work that way. Curves start curving again; sliders start sliding more; and sinkers sink a lot more . . . Just ask the Rockies.
Detroit should let them down easy.
True. But we should at least match them in pitching. I am looking forward to this next series with the Tigers. It will be a good test for our boys in the Orange and Black, and should say a bit about the prospect of playing October ball.
Hey, I said down 6-0 we “got ‘em where we want ‘em now”…
😉
‘Tis so . . . Should have given you props too (like I did with Loo). I award both of you, (drum roll please) . . .
Croix De Sherpa
Only, I was joking, sort of… 😉
Hey, they’ve already got the split of the 4, that’s cool. Go for the “series” win now. This isn’t baseball, really, in Denver, is it? It’s high altitude pinball. Great comeback, tho, whatever game you want to call it…
Yep…as I said a few threads back…fucking joint is a pinball arcade. No lead is safe in any game.
Panik 2-4, Susas 2-5. The kids are alright! As Blade said, shoutouts to Loo and snarkk for keeping the faith.
Yep, I’m liking these younguns…
The energy they bring is contagious. Friggin’ Susac has some pop, too. That’s why I generally don’t want players on the squad over 35…
Pav tweeted this Bochy quote: “It’s Coors Field. I don’t know how Walt (Weiss) does it.”
Turnabout is fair play ~ particularly at Coors where no lead is safe. Once upon a time Coors actually put out a fairly good brew. First had a bottle at a Mexican restaurant called Los Corrales in Kansas City, Kansas back in ’66. You couldn’t get it across the river in K.C., Mo. Didn’t know much Mexicano at the time so ordered up a (proved to be big) bowl of chili. It was good and the wicker of tortillas was as memorable as the brew. Nowadays Coors beer is as bad as their baseball. Just more television beer with the bikini babes and dancing frogs convincing boobtoob addicts that it’s kewl.
Last year my eyes always first went to BB9’s line in the box score. Now its those “shitty farm system” kidz Panik and Susac. They have been the difference-makers to this offense. OK so Buster has been en fuego lately with Pence not far behind. Ditto Pagan Baby (think Creedence), Blanco coming around and Crawford a steady RBI producer in the 8-hole and even fat Pablo having good AB’s every other game or so.
One more in the Box of Rox tomorrow and then the Road Warriors go to MoTown where it’s pretty much a done deal they will see better pitching. Ours isn’t so bad either, going Peavey, Bumgarner and Hudson. But one game at a time is the mantra. 23 to go. 14-9 would get us 90.
Nice post, Stick, but I beg to differ. On a hot day (high 90s or 100s), this new Coors Summer Brew goes down as smooth as a Thai beauty’s back side. It really is a very nice “lawnmower beer.”
Sheez, maybe they ought to play Gary Brown. With these rookies producing way above pay grade and supposed pedigree, maybe he’ll go on a 20 for 30 streak and steal 10 bags…
Right now…why not…roll the dice for a couple of games and see what happens. Not like I need to see Blanco out there every day (although, justice to Blanco, he has been playing decent of late). I’m a hop head, but on a smoking hot day, I want something ice cold and refreshing…that beer fits the bill for me.
Will catch up and read the thread, but first, this game. I almost bailed at 6-0. I was grilling and cooking a pizza on the grill out back, game on in the garage, but kind of zoning it out. But I stuck with it. I am watching delayed right now (paused in the 8th for a quick dip in the hot tub). What a fucking game. This team has some serious mojo going right now. If the bullpen gets steady again (and pitches the way they did tonight), and Pablo gets hot, fuck…look out. Loving watching this team right now. Amazing. Ball game, right now on my end! Whoot!
Yeah, was in the middle of a FF draft with my son giving me updates as the shit went down. Hard wired desktop computer being the only one I was able to use. Yes, mike’s amazing PC. Thx agin.
As far as mr. value meal goes, they should just cut him and be done with it.
Jim’s brother john is catching heat for welcoming Ray (boom boom) Rice back the fold with open arms in Baltimore.
Time for Jimbo to just cut him loose. Bruises around the neck can’t be explained away.
What if the woman came after him and he tried to protect himself? Plausible, it’s happened before in these domestic situations. I haven’t seen any background reports on what somebody says happened by any of the crack Bay Area reporters on the Niner beat. Remember Kap got torched by media about that situation in Miami, and turned out he was blameless, the woman was a mess…
The girl is pregnant, and he’s a 300 LB football player. I find the circumstances pretty hard to fathom where he needs to strangle her for his own protection.
Beyond the fact that this will take weeks to resolve, if Harbaugh wants to back up his talk of non-tolerance, he should suspend him. Otherwise it’s another case of another football player appearing to get away with something.
Well, you hate to convict anyone before they have a chance to defend themselves (guilty until proven innocent). But, if there is seriously compelling evidence that can be tied to him without a doubt, then yeah, suspend his ass.
As far as I know, the Niners can choose to put him on the inactive list for this first game, without suspending him. I’d guess they know pretty much what happened, but it’s too early pending more solid factual info for them to act more decisively. They can’t play him, I would think, or it’s a huge PR problem Jed would have on his hands…
We really do not get baseball news in England.
“Yankees to wear patch in honor of Jeter ”
did Jeter die?
Still alive, edd. I think they are honoring his record number of celebrity ex-girlfriends, and his ability to avoid having any nude photos with him get hacked into public domain…
Yep. He has been bullet proof that way…in the biggest baddest media center in the world. I mean that alone is HOF shit, right?
Yep, HOF of boinking class ass. He’s kept the media lid on his liaisons almost as tight as JFK did on his hot and cold running women at the White House…
Excellent analogy, snarkk – between Jeter’s harem and JFK’s.
LMAO…it’s all about the “Jeter Farewell Tour” Ed. They’re kissing his ass in every the YankMees visit. I respect Jeter but this farewell bullshit is way past old. Did you get my contact info? Give me a shout once in El Dorado County.
Does it matter why they are “honoring” this guy with a patch? Not really. Just more self congratulatory flagellation by the Yanks organization. I think Yanks fans are even tired of this farewell crap, especially since he’s been playing like garbage for a long time now. Seriously, does a guy that’s made north of $200 million in baseball need all these farewell “gifts” at the various ballparks? It’s like a president getting “gifts” from other heads of state upon a visit to Washington. I find it mildly disgusting…
It reminds me of the swapping of gifts at the end of the first gulf war when I was in Saudi Arabia. Saudis presented the squadron commanders with jewel-encrusted knives, and the wing commander with a jeweled sword. For the life of me, I cannot remember what the Americans presented to the Saudis. I can only hope it was a bunch of gawdy Colt Model 1911s.
Well, seems to me those Saudi gifts were probably more meaningful. The Astros gave him a farewell ceremony and gift, but it makes little sense, since the Stros weren’t in the AL ( or the interleague NL team opponents this year) for most of his career…

Gnite Chi…
Before our boys went on this little tear, there were a number of regulars who were dooming (and I get it…I’ve been there on multiple occasions in previous seasons). I tried to stay positive (even tossed around the Polly word a few times). Clown was right there, as was Blade, Paul, etc. I have also mentioned in the last month or so that I truly felt that this could be a special year. That feeling continues, and this partial email from my good friend Mike (obviously a hard-core Giant fan) with his “short” recap of the month of August captures that, too. Pretty good stuff when you see it all laid-out like that…
“Okay, on to the good stuff since September baseball is here. A (hopefully short) recap of August:
Giants got the month started off on the right foot by taking 3 of 4 in New York. Pence became the first Giant since Dusty Rhodes in 1954 to hit two doubles, two triples and two homers in the same series. Vogey and MadBum pitch complete games in the series as well.
Crazy Horse finally came back and after losing their first five with him in the lineup, Giants righted the ship.
Morse got hot against the Phillies (9-14).
Giants filed a protest and actually won. Baseball Gods on our side.
Huddy got his 2,000 Career K. Bochy got his 1,600 W, moved past fatass Tommy LaSagna in the process.
Petit set a new MLB record by retiring 46 consecutive batters. Think about all the pitchers in MLB history. All of them. Petit stands alone.
Finally, the Giants looked like the team from April/May during the last homestand. 6-1 record, busted out a can of Wup Ass on Milwaukee to the tune of 31 runs, 45 hits, including an AT&T Park record 10 extra base hits on Sunday (6 doubles, 3 triples, 1 HR).
My MVG’s for the month:
Hitting: Buster .336/.372/.579 with an OPS of .951
Pitching: MadBum 4-1, 1.57, 3 BB, 56 SO, 0.63 WHIP
Relief: Petit 0 BB, 21 SO, .087 Avg., 0.28 WHIP ( also accounts for one start).
It will be a September to remember brother. 2 back with 24 to play. I can smell it.”
I smell it too.
Night ladies…make it an awesome one tomorrow, and a series win, too!
I don’t have any idea what happened btw Mac and the GF, but if Niners do it’s on them to make the right call. But it could easily be complicated situation and not easy to sort out.
But the unfortunate fact is, pro athletes have enormous amount of free time, disposable income and very available selection of babes 24/7. These guys have money status and a physical presence that is highly desirable. How many gals wind up pregnant and what happens afterward in their relationship? do they settle down or do things go sour? And money definitely is a factor.
I know a gal who’s close friend was dating Alex Smith (on Niners at that time), right up until he told her was getting married soon. And offered to keep seeing her afterward if that’s what she wanted.
In the Doc Erving auto bio, he met his first wife in ABA days and she already had a kid. They got married, had a few more ids and eventually divorced. Plus he fathered the Stevenson girl on the side during that time. He eventually remarried and started another family.
During Bonds trials, the story came out about his on the side babe getting set up in hotels on the road by team personnel. This stuff happens all the time, and it’s easy to turn messy, with both sides acting irresponsibly. And finding out the real truth pretty elusive.
Good synopsis, WillieD, and I think most here have heard most of the same stories. Sad, but true.
The initial reports were of his pregnant fiancée having bruises around her neck consistent with hands on her throat. Which is why this is being pursued as a felony, not a misdemeanor.
Really, if these are the facts, he shouldn’t get near the field regardless of how the NFLPA and the team feel what’s best. What’s best is for him to cool his heels here while the team plays in Dallas.
Sure, there are cases of golddiggers looking to score off a player, but more often than not it’s shit like this. Women either getting knocked up of knocked around.
This is one of those great wake-ups. I bailed at 6-0 last night, surrendering to, um, pleasant corporeal “distractions.” And I’m with you on the 49ers comments. GO, GIANTS! Dare I dream the unspeakable? Yes!!
Sorry but any man that puts his hands on a woman is not a man at all and the more I hear Harbaugh the more I am convinced he’s a POS.
A while ago, I lost the ability to listen to Harbaugh. Even doing a good deed like his Peru visit, (and it’s great that he does that), but I won’t watch the TV special about it.
Harbaugh lost me with all the sideline histrionics on close calls and bad calls. He creates this “the whole world is picking on us” attitude by doing that, and I could see how that attitude is something that could flow throughout his coaching style. The players get the message “it’s somebody else’s fault, the whole world is picking on us.” I’m just theorizing, I don’t know for sure. But certainly something is seriously wrong in the Niner organization. The on-field success can’t justify what’s going on off the field. The Niners have become the Cowboys of the early ’90s, and even Jones parted ways with Johnson and then Switzer. Jones hasn’t won a Super Bowl since, but his team rejoined civilized society.
Shades of Mark Jackson eh?
Well, the ball’s in Harbaugh’s court. With all his talk of no tolerance for domestic abuse, he should just go ahead and sit McDonald for the game while they sort this out. There’s certainly enough evidence for that much of a stand.
Do you prefer Jim’s brother John’s approach of welcoming back Ray Rice with open arms?
unfortunately, I agree with you. He used to be a hero of mine but no longer.
I get the initial reports and all, and I will say again what I said last night:
“If there is seriously compelling evidence that can be tied to him without a doubt, then yeah, suspend his ass.”
My dad made it clear to me when I was a kid that I could never hit girls. I took a brutal beating from a chick in junior high after school one day. It was like Dragline vs. Cool Hand Luke.
What we got here is a failure to communicate. . .
If by some miracle Belt comes back shouldn’t he play LF with Posey at 1b and Susac catching?
Can’t see that happening this year, dirt. Maybe next year depending how things shake out with Morse and Panda…
With the initial reports on McDonald and all, I will repeat what I said last night: “If there is seriously compelling evidence that can be tied to him without a doubt, then yeah, suspend his ass.”
Probably true, DJ. If Morse doesn’t make it back soon they’ll have to figure something out. More Blanco I suppose as he won’t be back until next week anyway. Maybe Brown actually gets a ML AB.
Morse out for a while gives Giants the perfect opportunity to give Brown a few ABs and playing time in LF in between Blanco stints. I assume Brown can play LF…
CHI– no idea why you were going into the spam filter. Sorry about that. If the problem persists, email me.
“My dad made it clear to me when I was a kid that I could never hit girls. I took a brutal beating from a chick in junior high after school one day. It was like Dragline vs. Cool Hand Luke.”
Going to guess you were serious about this . . . Your story reminded me of my experience in Hawaii – in all ways, it was like a Bizarro Paradise Ghetto World.
Anywho, my mom decided to move us (my younger brother and I) to Honolulu, Oahu and it was immediate culture shock: 1. First day of school, the kids in my 8th grade class locked the Science teacher in a broom closet . . . for the entire period; 2. On the way to school, we had to take a public bus versus a “yellow” school bus and the kids in the back were using their socks, bags and hankies to breath into . . . Purpose unknown until the return trip home and I finally asked someone what was going on? They were “huffing” paint and airplane glue. Quite a shock to someone who only played sports and hadn’t been introduced to drugs yet; 3. On the same bus and later during school, I learned to avoid “Mamazooka” at all costs – She was a 12 year old mixed Hawaiian/Japanese fat bitch who would cold cock you if you looked at her cross-eyed; 4. I thought I was going to “clean up” in football . . . No chance, these kids were adult size at 12 years old, with most of them having ankles bigger then my thighs; and, 5. My mom got in a fight with an alcoholic room mate and moved us out of the house during the middle of the night. My fifth “What the fuck” moment in Hawaii had us sleeping on Waikiki beach for approximately 3-4 nights.
Of course, I look back fondly on those character building experiences. Right Loo? 🙂
WTF? Pagan, Pablo out today
Panda apparently just getting a day off to piggyback with tomorrow off for two days. Pagan, no news yet, late scratch. Perez playing for Pagan, not Brown…
Dumbass baserunning there by Perez, no way that should happen. Bummer you get a nice double, then throw it away. This kid seems to make mistakes like this out of anxiousness, at the plate, too. Voggy threw 3 loud outs in the first inning, I hope that isn’t a sign of things to come…
Oops. It was a sign of things to come. That was a long tater…
I’m digging on the older red headed woman that is in the picture when left handed batters hit, her friend isn’t bad either.
Great AB by Panik for the knock…
Amazing it’s 1-1. The way the Rox are hitting Vogey, maybe the Giants should go with 4 outfielders.
Some of you mentioned the Yankees and the Jeter patches…..it’s going to be on their jerseys AND hats, apparently. What can you say except…..wow. You’d think at some point Jeter would call a halt to the embarrassment, but maybe he’s oblivious to the embarrassment. After all, he allowed them to use the recorded voice of the dead guy for “Now batting…..” for years. Seriously, how can you not be embarrassed by THAT? Maybe Jeter is that narcissistic. I don’t really know much about Jeter. I’ve never found his career all that interesting, and I don’t follow the AL all that much.
Clearly also a marketing/revenue thing. Maybe Jeter gets a share of that under a special deal with the Yankees? I’ve read on a Yanks blog that more than a few Yanks fans are PO’d / embarrassed by it, especially since he’s sucking pretty much as a player now…
How do we have 6 hits in 3 innings, and only one run? On a sac fly no less?
7 hits. Not strung together, plus Perez had a double and then ran himself into an out on the bases. 0-5 RISP…
Ahhh. Thanks. TG Buster came through . . .
Voggy looking sharp, found a groove, has a good fastball going today with command. Question is how long he can keep it going at altitude. He tends to lose steam pretty quickly…
he got some nice ‘air’ at third there
Blanco’s getting hot these days. Drive him in . . .
No bunt there?
Buster stayin’ hot.
Buster is money these days. Damn . . .
The sample size is getting bigger that shows Posey getting more time at 1b and away from the C position helps his offense, big time. The splits I heard on radio this morning are glaring in terms of far better average (around 100 points) and production when he’s not catching…
Blanco’s three-bagger gives SF the undisputed NL lead in triples. Relatively weak lineup today, though. BB15 must be saving up for Detroit.
I was going to say this is just when Voggy gets stung. He walks a guy and then cave in…
Uh, cave in even more…
Oh fuck. I was just thinking ‘pen’
Fuck and double fuck.
Wow. Vogie bogie.
I know it’s Coors, but this is a prime example of why Vogey is IMO not a good candidate to return next year. As I said above, he loses steam all of a sudden, the wheels just tend to come off…
Whelp, the wheels came off quick there. 5-2 is nothing in CO though right?
Offensively, Posey’s splits are pretty stark on the C vs. 1b issue:
Position: BA, OBP, SLG, OPS
Career
C : .293 .361 .466 .827
1b: .375 .417 .542 .959
2014
C : .288 .340 .477 .817
1b: .361 .420 .557 .977
I’ve seen enough of Voggy. Apparently Bochy hasn’t. He can’t put a guy away, throws a 3-2 hit me mid thigh, and it gets smoked into the Xmas tree farm…
Not too confident in the Giants pulling off another comeback with this pea-shoot bottom of the lineup, assuming it even stays at 6-2.
I get the getaway with rest day in between lineup. But, sometimes I think Bochy just basically waives the white flag too easily, hopes for a mini miracle with a poor lineup. The Rockies are an eminently beatable team, so I don’t like just giving this one away, hoping to get lucky. No Morse, no Panda, no Pagan, that’s tough to make a comeback…
I’m not so much blaming Bochy. Morse is hurt and Pagan was a late scratch (still haven’t heard why). I guess Pablo needed the rest. The way this is going, I doubt even all 3 would’ve made much difference.
Yeah, I get it, but with Voggy going, you know the Rocks are going to score some. This lineup was challenged from the get go…
