A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Game Time Thread

9-0 and then 17-0. Two weirdo games that you really can’t make anything of except each team won a game and each team lost one.

Kershaw v Yuzzie-Pet today…

Pence throw was up the LF line some James, Panda sorta of olé it, gutsy running by Ramirez challenging Pence arm though ..

I hope the historical Bochy family is not the highlight of this game, too.

Injuries are part of the game, Flabby. Too bad the Dodgers will make their usual quick exit from the playoffs, if they make the playoffs.

Ryu is going for an MRI on Monday.
From an article today: “question remaining is just how long Ryu will be out, after pitching just one inning Friday night. Ryu missed 20 games and 22 days on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation in April and May, and told reporters on Friday night his shoulder felt similar to that injury. Such a timetable would wipe out any remaining regular season starts for Ryu, and would put the possibility of any playoff starts in jeopardy.”

Flabby – you have to work on being a better winner – sure the Dodgers have won 5 WS (out of 9 appearances) to the Giants 2 (out of 5 appearances) since both teams moved west – but it’s been a looooong time since the Dodgers closed the deal – the Giants have won 2 of the last 4. Nothing worse than a shitty, classless winner.

    • Rooster's avatar Rooster said, on September 14, 2014 at 7:05 pm

BTW, Flab, I’ve watched and celebrated only 2 of the 5 WS wins the Dodgers have had – I was born 2 years too late to see the ’65 team do it. That makes me even with most (all?) Giants fans here – how many have you seen? One? None?

Willie, going to assume you are referencing Maalox, Plablum or whatever the fuck he calls himself. Just my take, but Rooster and Sandy I have no problem with (albeit, I want both of them to fess up on where they primarily post – Fair is fair . . . In effect, there may be a Flapper or two (not myself) whom might want to visit their Dodger “web digs.”). Anywho, in my opinion they have good viewpoints, add to the conversation, and I like them both.

Regardless of who you were referencing – I WILL ALWAYS TAKE THE SIDE OF A FLAPPER IF HE IS ATTACKED BY ANY DODGER FAN.

Dunno. I only posted on the Splash for maybe 2 years, then found this place via Chi. What I don’t get is why anyone would want to post at their rivals blog? That doesn’t make sense to me. With Sandy, at least I know he lives in the city (similar to me living in Denver and posting in the Denver Post . . . But, I never post on the local Sherpa blogs).

So, blade, is Ankor Wat as spiritual as advertised? or touristy?…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2014 at 9:37 pm

Most impressive site was the one with the heads and naga (serpents). Also, the large temple (forgot the name) where you had to walk a bit on a raised wall was very impressive. Probably the tallest temple (and building in Siem Reap) Angor Wat. I was sweating quite a bit after climing to the top.

  28. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2014 at 9:26 pm

Yes and no Tom. Sorry to equivocate, but being there at sunrise was special, despite the crowds, which are dispersed because of how many temples there are. Not certain, but I think the temple complex is the largest in the world in one area. You have to take a tuk tuk to each distinct temple site in most cases. The Prohm (sp) site with the Banyan trees is quite small compared to the other sites and that was crowded. Plus, we had a monsoon rain hit us as we were traveling to the compound.

Give it five years and I think yes, it will be too touristy.

  29. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on September 14, 2014 at 10:17 pm

The 49ers haven’t lost a lot of games during the Harbaugh era, but when they lose, this is how they usually seem to lose. Up 17-7 with the ball inside the Bear’s 10-yard line, they run 3 straight running plays and settle for a fieldgoal. That kind of conservative jive is frustrating to watch. Joe Montana and Jerry Rice were probably just shaking their heads in bewilderment at that.
Kapaernick had a bad game, but the Niners receiving core still seems inadequate, and the pass protection broke down a lot tonight. The Bear’s receivers looked good, and put on a clinic on how to abuse smaller defensive backs in the endzone.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2014 at 10:19 pm

How did the new DB rookie look? I think his name is Ward? He’s a munchkin I understand, but packs a wallop.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on September 14, 2014 at 11:03 pm

I didn’t notice him in particular, but the DBs got absolutely abused in the 4th quarter. Just completely worked over.

  30. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2014 at 11:58 pm

Ward had a shitty night. But by the end, the whole defense looked like shit. The killer was the Bears giving up on the run in the 1st quarter and the Niners not dialing up the pressure on Cutler. He was pretty much untouched except for the penalty. The flags were ridiculous. The game was unwatchable with ticky tacky penalties being called all nigh on both sides.

I’m not sweatin’ this lost LA series. Giants won the game they should have, and lost the one they should have. The middle one that was up for grabs turned into one of those inexplicable ball games where the whole thing just craters in on you. It happens. The thing about that game is Huddy — he looks done for the year. I mean, not a lot left, otta gas, on fumes. He might sputter a good start in the next two, but unlikely. As for Timmy, he needs to go to a Zen center and come back next Spring with a new outlook and a new motion. $17 million for him looks laughable now. The rest of the pitching that gave up the 17 runs, I’m not worried about. Kickham, Bochy, whatever. BTW, has Mike Kickham ever pitched an inning in an SF uni without giving up a run — whether his or somebody else’s — just askin’. I assume at least one he’s posted a O up there. For the life of me I don’t see why that guy is on the 40 man…

  35. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on September 15, 2014 at 9:26 am

Another thing about the Niner game….I didn’t get the strategy of treating the last 6 minutes, down by 8, as a ONE possession drive, mixing in several running plays. Their strategy, apparently, was to run down the clock, get a touchdown AND a two-point conversion, AND then win in overtime?? A bit conservative, I would say.
The last 6 minutes should have been treated as a two-possession game, in 2-minute hurry-up mode the whole way.
Niner fans who want to see Niner football, as we remember it in the ’80s and early ’90s, have to watch other NFL teams to see it.
One of the ironies, to me, has always been how “smashmouth football” coaches get so wimpy sometimes, as if the passing game, on offense, near the endzone is some kind of atomic hazard-pile to be negotiated with oh so carefully.
But, I guess it’s to be expected. since Harbaugh played in the Big 10, and played for Ditka in the pros.
