A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Play Ball

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 2, 2015

One more day until real baseball. At least, baseball games that don’t count. Tomorrow the Giants play the A’s. Barry Zito will  be the starting pitcher for Oakland…

That last sentence isn’t true but that would spice this spring up a bit, yes?

Yeah I’m ready for the games to begin. Enough of practice. Where’s Wille D? His coffee must be brewing by now.

Nip, I’m with you on ST, just ain’t my thing. Not gonna touch “real baseball.”
Everyone feels good and maybe even looks good.
So did Brandon Hicks for a while last year even during reg season.

As I recall there is usually a thread/poll later on about who breaks out of camp with a stellar ST that bears watching. Not a lot of open spots except end of bench/long guy in pen but ST imp for those battling for them.

Bad L for Cards yesterday as senior and MVP of league candidate had couple end of game f-ups. Not good.
Yet another trip to NIT bad look for Dawkins, and might be his undoing.

Look out for Christan Arroyo this spring, he will wearing #82 John Taylor’s old number running post patterns this camp..

I like this kid AK. He has excellent all round skills and has the potential to be a solid everyday player. He had a setback due to injury, but came back strong last season at Single A Salem (comparable to his outstanding performance after being drafted, where he destroyed the rookie Arizona League in 2013 winning MVP honors, while leading the league in runs, doubles, extra base hits, RBIs, slugging percentage and OPS.

Let’s get it on! I am SO READY for baseball…even games that do not count!

Loo, at some point we need to have a flapapalooza in your neck of the woods. I know there have been a couple flapapalooza-ettes, but we need a full-blown wing ding out there.

Not looking too far off, but my soon-to-be 18 year old son wants to have his first (legal) drink at Finnerty’s. I think that’s a pretty good idea. Seeing as his birthday is in May, it would be great to get out there for a game or two and a few pops.

Anyone excited zzzzz of the signing to a minor league contract to Ronny Cedeno infielder for added depth? Didn’t think so..

Sending out good thoughts for Tim Flannery today. I guess Coach had double vision in his left eye all last year, so today he’s having surgery on his lens. Good wishes to ya Flan and get well soon.

Was not aware. Healing wishes to the Flan Man for a quick and full recovery. Hoping to catch him and The Fringe sometime soon.

When the ball hit Pablo’s glove on that late October night in KC, it set in motion the goal for the Orange and Black this year (Black and Orange for Loo and our Giants brothers on the right coast)…

    Back-to-Back – Four in Six!

    Let’s Do This!

I know beginning with tomorrow’s games that they don’t count, and there are not many positions up for grabs, but I don’t give a flying fuck. I am just ready to hear baseball over the airwaves again. Life is just so much better when this is the case.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on March 2, 2015 at 11:41 am

Cool post Chi . . . Absolutely agree – FOUR IN SIX!

  9. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat said, on March 2, 2015 at 12:01 pm

    Right on Chi!!
Let’s breakup that odd year championships and go “Back to Back”
4 in 6 would be pretty sick..

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on March 2, 2015 at 2:10 pm

It would be unreal, Kat. Kind of like it was so unreal/surreal when the won it all in 2010. Or, in 2012 when they won 237 elimination games to win it, and last year when they got into the dance via the wlidcard, and as the underdog, stood the world on its ear, again. So, why the fuck not???

This was on CBS sports article.

This year’s under-the-radar pickup is another guy on a minor-league deal: outfielder Justin Maxwell. The 31-year-old spent most of last season in Triple-A with the Royals, where he hit .285/.352/.464 with eight homers in 56 games. He’s a righty bat with a career 108 OPS+ against left-handed MLB pitchers. Pagan has battled lots of injuries in recent years, and if he visits the disabled list again, Maxwell could step into a platoon role with Blanco and/or Aoki.

  13. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on March 2, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Maybe the Flannery eye injury explains some things. I didn’t think he had that great of a 2014 season. I thought he was average at best throughout the season. And getting Posey thrown out at home with none out in the first inning of the first game of the World Series was a huge gaffe. Fortunately, Pence hit a 2-run HR right after that to make up for it. And, of course, MadBum wasn’t needing many runs that game anyway.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on March 2, 2015 at 7:14 pm

I don’t think the Giants will miss Flan’s decisions, something that Krukow has always been wrong about in praising. But they’ll miss his soul. His face. All that jazz. Literally.

The more I see it, the more suspicious it looks. No flinch at all from either of them.

I looked it up. It turns out it’s a fake. It was done with editing for a commercial. Good edit job.

Off the top of my head, a quick list of things I’m looking forward to in Spring Training:
    1. Cain/Lincecum/Hudson, their health and/or pitching ability these days.
    2. Yasmany Tomas, how good does he look?
    3. Joc Pederson, will he be the Dodgers opening day centerfielder?
    4. Sandoval, how does he look in that Red Sox uni?
    5. Cubs prospects, good or over-rated, especially Kris Bryant.
    6. Dodgers have several prospects getting good press. How good are they?
    7. Can the Giants’ Okert make a serious push to make the big club this soon? I’m guessing he starts the season in the minors. How about Strickland?
    8. How are the Padres looking?
    9. Green fields, the crack of the bat, teams gushing with optimism.
    10. BASEBALL!!!

Looking at the 3 spots open:

*Machi or Kontos get the last relief spot
    .
LF- In order : Ishi, Maxwell, Perez, Brown

*Utility- Adrianza over Duffy- although Matt could be back up quickly

The games begin! Even though it’s only ST, I’m excited.

Watching a replay of 2nd half of very entertaining Warriors-Nets game (and a happy ending for me). What a rough night for Thompson, the low point when he gets a behind-the-back pass from Curry for a wide-open corner 3 . . . and shoots an airball.
