A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Man, I should spend more time in Sacramento. When I left we were the worst team in the NL. I come back, now we’re 3rd worst—and out of last place in the West!!!!!

Cain with another opportunity tonight to cement his hold on Comeback Player of the Year (although Thames might have something to say about that).

I would say Thames has that locked up, unless he faceplants or gets busted for PED’s. Both of which are completely probable.

Biggest game of the year so far for Cainer.

Cain needs good fortune tonight. A lot of at’em balls, and balls caught on the warning track.

Well, that first game played out of Coors field back at sea level can often favor the pitcher, at least for the first 5 innings or so. Cain has that going for him too

Just read a story in Chron by Matier and Ross about Marin attorney Chris Dolan. He is protesting a decision by San Rafael city officials to allow a convent near his $6 mil property to accommodate 2 single mom homeless families referred to them by a local non profit. He filed 17 page appeal to City and says if they turn it down, “Then I can file a lawsuit.”

Is this the guy who advertises on KNBR during Giants and Warriors games, sometimes with his kids in them for cutesy affect? If you read the column he comes across as absolutely disgusting scumbag.
IF this is the same guy then Giants need to cut ties immediately and forever with this f-wad. Give him his money back and draw a line in the sand.

Reds scored 3 runs Thursday, then 2 in 17 Friday, 1 Saturday and 3 yesterday. Giants get pitching like that, esp from SPs, they can compete. Maybe hitters starting to come around, lot of good ABs yesterday from likes of Nunez Panik Craw and some rockets from Belt and Span.

Mac with 2 more hits in Sac yesterday, Hwang homered twice (his first 2 in America that count) and is up over .300. As Dirt said Ruggiano probably gets some more run, but Gorkys has to go for Mac, and Hwang can’t possibly be worse than Morse at the plate nor worse at whatever position he might play.

  6. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on May 15, 2017 at 9:15 am

    Agree Willied,
I’m so sick of the one trick poney acts of Gorkys(occasional glove /no stick)&Morse(no glove/and a novelty bomb which he has only 1 whoopee) taking up roster spots.
I’ll take a Donger&Mac combo with garlic fries 🍟 anytime over those 2!
Do you guys think their holding Mac back cause he’s out of options and they want him to hit .650 first before his last shot?

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 15, 2017 at 9:26 am

If out of options is a concern for Williamson, they won’t bring him up til he’s 32 years old…

      • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:02 am

Yeah that’s sounds right Snarkk, that’s what our starting outfield is now, we’ll actually older Span 33 Pence 34 toss a little Rigatoni 34, a Morsel of Morse 35 with are baby Mork&Mindy’s Gork at 30.
“How can you compete with dinosaurs roaming the outfields?”

  7. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on May 15, 2017 at 9:29 am

There must be some stat on how active a team is in bringing minor leaguers up and sending minor leaguers back. And I mean system minor leaguers, not scrap heap dudes like Marrero, etc. I would like to see where SF is on that metric…

  8. dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 15, 2017 at 9:55 am

Holding back Williamson because of Parker is the real travesty.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:24 am

      lulz…

My beef with Williamson is that the dude can never stay healthy. I really do not think there is much difference in the power department between Mac and Parker, and still think Parker is a better defender.

      Parker (six minor league seasons):
      2409 AB in 681 games, .262, .365, .459, .823, 100 HR, 362 RBI, 836 Ks (Ks every 2.88 AB)

      Mac (six minor league seasons):
      1471 AB in 389 games, .286, .365, .485, .850, 64 HR, 257 RBI, 354 Ks (Ks every 4.15 AB)

Both with six years in the minors, but Mac playing significantly fewer games.

They both hit HRs at about the same clip.

The major difference in stats is the K rate (Parker once every 2.88 AB, Mac once every 4.15 AB).

      • dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:28 am

Staying healthy has been Williamson’s issue. I’m not arguing that it hasn’t been. They’re defensive numbers are more or less a wash. I think he’s the better all around player. Striking out less is part of that. Not looking totally over matched at the plate is another part of it.

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 15, 2017 at 1:05 pm

Agree. I see neither as a solution as a starter…4th or 5 OFers, IMO.

  9. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:15 am

Cain historically sucks vs. Dodgers: 6-11 lifetime.
    Marichal was 37-18 against them.
This included a 21-4 record at Candlestick.
It was actually 21-1 before he dropped his last 3 in the waning stages of his career.
    Through 1967 it was 15-0!

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:18 am

Now THAT is a good Giant. Kruk has always thrown that term around too much, IMO.

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:36 am

Good vs. Great – huge difference…

  10. dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:24 am

The dodgers offense has been better so far in May. They haven’t been as good at night or away from home so maybe Cain can hold them down but djloo is right, Cain has not fared well against them historically. This is the new and improved Matt Cain though so I expect good things!

  11. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 15, 2017 at 10:48 am

If anyone is still hanging on to any hopes for this season, the next 10 games vs. Dodgers, Cards and Cubs are gigantic…

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on May 15, 2017 at 1:10 pm

Well, we are more or less at the 1/4 point in the season, so they are all big at this point, especially when there are nine teams ahead of them re: the wild card. Yes, early to be talking wild card, but I think any realistic chance at the post-season dance is going to be via the WC.

  12. dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 15, 2017 at 11:06 am

Pretty much, dj. They’ve got to get to .500 by the end of this month to have any chance.

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on May 15, 2017 at 12:11 pm

Getting to .500 in two weeks is asking a bit much, I’d give it a little longer than that. Hell, I just want to see them win two series in a row.

THAT is the key, Mac…winning series. Don’t expect them to win ’em all, but they need to win more than they lose. If they can do that, they’ll make up ground.

Nothing better then stats on “The Dominican Dandy”! Had the pleasure of seeing him pitch back in the 60’s -70’s along with the other Giant greats Mays,McCovey,Cepeda,Perry..
Sucks that Marichal imo got robbed of a couple CyYoungs that he should of won.
The Roseboro incident killed any chances of him ever winning one and of course Koufax was the golden boy back then, and the voters were more “the good old boys club” with clout & prejudice still going strong…

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on May 15, 2017 at 6:24 pm

        Somewhat agree Loo,
Think Juan’s longer career gives him the edge over Koufax, and he had more 20 game win seasons then all of them.
Sure you & I could sit back and enjoy a beer&cigar writing out are starting 4 pitchers if we had Koufax,Marichal,Gibson&Seaver on our club..

Published reports show Popovich’s minions in the past have clearly done what he’s accusing ZaZa of doing. I hope the Dubs destroy the Spurs this next game…
