Seven?
Why do we have another day off? This is baseball season, play every goddamn day till there’s a champion.
When we do play again…..

A day off between series in Pittsburgh and Detroit? WTF…play ball, dammit…we need to keep this groove going!
Make it seven!
And I don’t think the Tigers play today…total bs and then the Giants play Thursday day game and then fly back home for a FRIDAY night game…
Just watched the “coffee video” that snarkk posted a few threads ago…just fucking shoot me already. I was putting coconut oil in my coffee for a while. Real mixed bag on whether that shit is good for you, or not. Butter in my coffee (and I fucking love butter), uh, no.
Hope Hunter’s wifey is a barracuda in the rack, because otherwise, she’s a fucking ditz.
I’ve started using RumChata in my coffee. Is it good for me? I don’t know and don’t care, that shit is awesome.
I am going to have to give that a try. I have used Irish Cream for my daily coffee for years (tried them all, but I prefer Carolans or St. Brendans). Thanks for the heads-up, Clown.
I love either French Vanilla or Hazelnut creamer (non fat) and I’m good to go. When out of the country, cream or milk will suffice.
Playing like they have something to prove? I’ll buy that…
I always believed that a starter, no matter how good he is, needs to psychologically know that his team has his back in not only sacrificing their bodies to make that catch and having the ability to forget pitches they wish they had back that put them in the hole. That is a measure of a team that pulls for each other.
It’s not too late for respectability to shine in the 2nd half. These last 6 wins might be a message to mgmt to give the group a shot. Am I getting a little ahead of myself … sure … maybe…
IF they started playing the way I thought they could (and they have of late), I thought (and still do) that they could be buyers at the deadline. I still want to see them deal Cueto, because I think he opts-out at the end of the year.
I like Cueto, but he’s gotta go.
He’ll opt out otherwise, and what do you get – a draft pick? Come on, Giants need bodies that actually have a shot at playing at ATT…
This time last week I coukdn’t wait for the off days, how quickly things change.
Too bad about Arroyo and the finger. He’s done for the season, essentially. He needed to come back up in this lost season and get more ABs. Anyway, now he needs to play Winter Ball, and get ready for Spring Training…
The team is still awful and has been for almost a year. Don’t let a little winning streak fool you.
I never got all the fuss over Jennifer Aniston…
Exactly.
The worst thing that could happen is that this POS team has a blip up and management accordingly does very little to fix this thing for the long term. The problems remain. An aging outfield, with barely any decent replacements on the horizon in the minors. A questionable Pen. Two guys in the rotation that need replacing — Cueto and Cain. One can help the other problems by getting traded. The other is near useless…
Hard to see anyone taking on Span or Pence (both signed through next season) unless it’s a contending team that suffers a major injury and is desperate. Wonder how many guys will be exposed to waivers after the deadline…
I agree on the Cueto situation (Ty seems a good starter and Bum will be back). But heck, with Nunez back at 3rd shortly, Slater seeming to be hitting and handling left well, Span and Pence back to quality status, Belt turning hot again, leaves Craw to pick up his hitting again, Buster.. (enough said)……Dyson for closer for now (maybe longer) Now at least I can see if something is really there for the next 2 series before the break…..
For me this is something to be a little excited .
“I never got all the fuss over Jennifer Aniston…”
She was a big deal to other women as a celebrity; but not so much to men.
That whole show was lost on me. I never got it.
In the ’90s, my favorite comedy was The Larry Sanders Show.
Garry Shandling has passed away, which is very sad.
It was nothing but honky nonsense…
Friends, that is…
It was a pretty honky show for sure.
It was a pretty honky show for sure.
the only time i happened to watch that honky show they showed one emotional scene with a NY wall full of graffiti in the background-and in the center of the wall was an ad for a Los Lobos concert. The distraught honkies performed their honky crap for a long time with that Los Lobos poster behind them. The honkies who produced that honky crap knew exactly that they were doing.
With this season lost for playoffs, it is now a prequel and proving ground to direct the moves for 2018 and beyond. Winning a few games now keeps up the interest, but it can’t be the key factor in making moves, and trying out players. This season is now all about the future…
I don’t know if he’s serious or if that’s just some shit he says, but I look forward to Dennis Z posts that end with him taking a shot and saluting the flag.
Craig, I’m pretty serious. Only 6 games to go by,: but they’ve done a 180 since the Mets series in every category that made them a 50 game loser….comebacks, starters, a changed relief, getting out of jams, scoring with 2 outs, freakin defense has been superb and all on the road. Rockies and Pirates are not the cream to compare on… but maybe they are just believing more in themselves…… Maybe trying to have Bum something to come back to. Just an armchair observation. But If this team didn’t have the reputation of being the underdog that proved everyone wrong in their 3 out of 5 I’d hold back my words a little.
So, it would be cool to see something become of this little bit of chemistry brewing..
Take 3 or 2 out of 3 vs Detroit and come back home to the faithful … well the loyal crowd will remind them what the 26th player thinks of them…..
Dirt, I’m in Reno for 10 days doing nuthin’ but playing poker and the ponies. Hit me up if you around. Same goes for any of you knuckleheads up here too
I could sure go for an ice cold Grain Belt right about now…
Sonic is now selling a pretzel dog. A hot dog with melted cheese on it, with bacon pieces sprinkled on top, all on a pretzel hot dog bun.
Carl’s Jr. is selling a hamburger that also has rib meat on top of the hamburger patty.
And all the other fast food places are selling goofy stuff, too, in the ever ongoing competition.
All guaranteed to give the consumer a near-coma meat-sweat experience.
The Nationals have retained the shiny batting helmets but I see they’ve gone to the raised 3-D logo.
Looks pretty good. Who decides this stuff?
I guess every team has their own marketing guru, where every little thing is taken into account. Larry Baer is the head of all that with the Giants.
Nats blow yet another save, Even Kontos or Gearrin would be an upgrade from the garbage they trot out there…
Dave Fleming has the national ESPN game tonight.
He’s our resident honky
Seen Los Lobos a few times. Always very entertaining. They played the Santa Cruz Blues festival Hendrix tribute. Really good. Never noticed the poster in the show tho.
To get back a ml ready player, only chip they have is Cueto. Unlikely anyone else gets dealt beside Nunez imo much as I would like to see a number guys put on waivers.
And Evans can spin it for 2018 and say 2017 just a brad penny year, Bum is healthy we have a LF (tho they need 2 more OFs) and 3b (someone) and GGs all over IF and C (none of whom are moving or going anywhere) plus the FLR and young hard throwing pen.
Good analysis
Interesting to see if trading Nunez will bring back anything resembling what they gave up for him which was Mejia right?
He’s won a few games for the Twins, and while peripherals aren’t great he has an ERA 4.50 ish, right about where most Giants SPs are right now as a 24 yr old.
Outside of Beede, it appears Giants do not have much pitching, esp SPs, ready soon. Hmmnn.
Well, there’s Blach.
A 10 game winning streak, much less six games – is not going to convince me that this wretched team has risen from the dead. They beat the Sherpas, who were already in free fall (as I emphatically indicated at the beginning of the series). Ditto for the Pirates.
Not going to happen, but no one on the team should be untouchable, including Posey and Bum. However, the team is not about winning anymore – it’s about marketing. Do you know how many real fans there are and how many bandwagon fans? I don’t know the answer, but I suspect there are way more band wagon fans that get excited about Pandas, Giraffes, “clean cut” Posey, The Reverend, Bum, etc. Sheesh, if Timmy had given the word and was half assed reasonable on a contract, he would still be pitching here. Yep, marketing trumps winning in SF . . . until proven otherwise.
How’s the family doing?
Very good Loo. I’ll change my avatar with the baby’s photo.
Excellent.
Do new dads still give out cigars or did that end in 1965?
Dunno. Don’t smoke, so uncertain. Plus, I’m in Vietnam and have no idea what they traditionally hand out. Lot of smokers here though, so cigars would probably go over well.
She’s adorable. The first Flap baby!
Thank you Loo. We only prayed for a healthy baby . . . Hard to articulate, but Linh and I are just humbled by the entire 9 month pregnancy and birth.
Watching Mets-Nats 11 am game, Giants had this game a few years ago, it did not go well.
Off to bed. Happy Independence Day!
Beautiful baby Steve! Congrats!
Thank you WJ!
So I just read where former umpire Angel Hernandez is suing MLB for disrimination. Uh, I don’t think so dude. He might have been the worst umpire in the history of the game. His skin color had nothing to do with this.
Saw that story, wish he was a former ump but he’s still active.
He has the worst reputation. I think it started with some incident in a Met game about 20 years ago…
Classic use of race for a money grab. He’s a dishonorable disgrace.
Final day of idiotic uniforms…
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) DH
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Jae-Gyun Hwang (R) 3B
8. Nick Hundley (R) C
9. Austin Slater (R) LF
Pence with oppo bomb. Impressive. No new thread today. I’m in a sportsbook watching the game
Lazy.
jk – have fun, BF, win some dough, enjoy your 4th.
And above all, PACE yourself….
Thx but this ain’t my first rodeo. Watched Joey Chestnut dominate again. Now giants Gm. Later, beers and BBQ at buddies house. Celebrate this great day and you have a good one Rooster
I can’t watch that thing, but I truly don’t understand how nobody drops dead during or after…
“According to Nathan’s website, one of their hot dogs weighs 3.5 oz, and has 280 calories. That means 70 hot dogs weigh 15 pounds and have 19,600 calories”…
Who’s on the broadcast with Kuiper?
Brian Johnson.
Giants will have to lift some off the warning track. Looks like Tigers up for it too.
Sac Kings staying busy on the holiday.
Looks like the Jazz are going to be challenged this coming season. Hayward to the Celts…
Cain into 4th is heading into the danger zone. They started hitting the ball hard in the third. Thing he has going for him is the Tigers park is friggin huge in the alleys, as we’ve seen already. Bochy needs a quick hook, I doubt Giants are getting much more off of Fulmer…
Happy 4th Fellas!
Love the moves my Kings are making.
I’d like to see a game at this ballpark. I like the way it looks on TV.
Fun Fact: I saw Brian Johnson play QB for Stanford v SDSU when I was a student back in the day
Comerica the beautiful.
Randolph pretty tough inside on GS too, classic post up guy. You have take Warriors off the dribble and attack rim to beat them.
wasn’t Shaw’s dad willie a SDSU guy?
Delayed start here at the Hoof and Paw Ranch. Just saw Pence go yard! SEVEN!
Craw with the 2 run bomb!…
Somehow seems like ages ago the Giants clinched that Series in Detroit, with Theriot sliding across home like a slip n slide…
Brandon’s get it done. One is hitting .235 the other .229 coming in…hope they can turn it around second half, go a long way toward improving outlook for next year.
Why is Cain still in there???
I didn’t get that either. The usual Bochy headscratcher these days, overplaying his hand with Cain.
Start a fresh 7th with a new pitcher, even with this Pen. Instead, Bochy keeps him, then hooks him after he leaves 2 guys on…
And then why is Panik playing wonder in the hole???
Did I miss the Baby Blade Birth??? Congrats Blade Man. What do they pass out in Vietnam???? I believe hookers…
Thanks Peter . . . By the by, that would be Thailand.
Who’s the guy doing color today?
Brian Johnson.
What happened to Affeldt?…
Brian Johnson, LJ. they showed clip of the HR earlier. Not bad breath of fresh air. At start Kuip said something about what he is doing these days (scouting maybe), but I can’t remember it.
Yeah, he was pretty good. Thanks.
This is where Affeldt or Lopez would’ve been brought in, but Bochy clearly has no faith in the O’shitcrap lefties…
Fucking Kontos and that fucking, fucking shift. I hate shifts. Ballgame.
Well, there you go. Leaving Cain in to start the 7th leads directly to 2 runs. Bochy continues to do that, like he is paying a debt to Cain. Nobody would have said a thing if he pulled Cain after 6, and the Pen gave it up, because Cain going 6 for 3 is about as good as you can hope. Blame Bochy for that one…
Absolutely blame Bochy. Wtf do u leave old man Cain in to pitch the 7th? Get 5 innings out of the guy, 6 max. 7? Stupid to leave him in, it’s that stupid ass “respect” can has earned that will probably result in an L today.
In a lost season, maybe no biggie, but seriously, that was pretty predictable at this point. You tie up the game, you should take a decent outing from Cain and move on to the Pen. Expecting a clean 7th from Cain is just BS. Bochy is too comfortable with some of these players, that’s part of the problem. Put some of it on Kontos for giving up the hit, but hey, you get two on base with one out and THEN bring in this Pen, you’re asking for it. That non-move by Bochy lost the game today…
And Mac Dog..I was at that 4th of July Game at the Nats I believe 2012 (the first and only time with all 7 of the Giant Head Family). Lincecum got blown up I believe and once our OF seats fell out of the shade into the blaze, we got the hell out of there.
We were at the Game the night before and that was when the electricity came back after 4 days when that freak wind derricho (sp?) hit our region on a Friday night. It started raining at that night game and we just sat in it appreciating the relief. We get home and thunderstorm hits and there goes our electricity again…we got the hell out of town after the 4th for some beach time in Rhode Island…
Yeah, I remember watching that game and how hot it was, Giants and Timmy never handle that well.
Yeah, having Cain start the 7th not the greatest idea.
Crick has that classic Honky look of complete non description
Crick has that classic Honky look of complete non description
Cain with his typical 4th/5th inning struggles. Gonna have to be another come back (yep…still delayed)…
I say again, I don’t get what purpose Cain pitching now serves. He doesn’t even “eat” a lot of innings, and even if he did, so what, he’s gone next season. I think 7 losses in a row for him now. Beede has not been doing great lately down below, but I think that is irrelevant, unless he’s hurt. He was doing well earlier. At some point, you bring guys up to see what they can do. I think after a while, minor leaguers that are prospects are ready, and can be held down too long, and regress because they lose momentum and focus because they don’t see a way up anytime soon…
They have been bringing up guys, but more pitchers, like Beede, need to come up. I don’t know what they’re waiting for with him. Cain is Cain is Cain. No surprises, usually going to be a loss. I’m tired of watching him. With Craw’s dinger they had a good chance to win today. Bring in Kontos to start the 7th, he’s been throwing the ball well. With a rest day yesterday, I don’t know what Bochy was trying to do bringing Cain out again. The pen is rested.
Kontos falling behind 2-0 to Upton was what killed him today.
At least it went fast, enjoy the rest of the 4th and the fireworks!
Happy 4th all!
Kontos’ ERA is so deceiving. He lets inherited runners in all the time. I’m so tired of his act.
Major props to the Cubs for not wearing those ridiculous holiday uniforms.
Cain will keep pitching because the Giants owners are hugely against eating big contracts.
Zito contract= Magowan demoted
Rowand released= Mr. Bow-tie demoted
Sadly, I think that is a big part of it.
It’s nonsense, as the useless losses pile up it doesn’t benefit the LT health and development of the franchise.
The money gets paid regardless of whether he’s on the mound giving up homers, or in Barbados on the beach.
Giants fans, most I believe, would not give a S to the negative if he were DFA’d in favor of a minor leaguer. They’d welcome it, IMO. Does anybody scan the starter schedule to make sure they go to a Cain start?…
Bum may be the one who knocks Cain out of the rotation…
And the trade deadline may keep him in it…
Cain is fine if you put him on the clock after 4. He can go 5, and sometimes go 6, but that is by far his ceiling. Anything after that is just stupid. Bochy has to know this by now. No disrespect to pull him after 6. At all. HE knows what he is. This isn’t Cueto grinding out a tough win, or a prime time Timmy telling Boch to go sit down. This is Cain. Didn’t see this game, but it is plain silly to bring Cain out in the 7th regardless of whatever the pitch count happened to be. He’s death after 5 usually.
That’s Fleming doing the Red Sox-Rangers game right? He just sounds different, more comfortable and in command. Maybe him and Miller K&K just isn’t best fit.
I actually think he’s much better on the national telecasts. I think Kruk, Kuip and Miller still think of him as “the kid” so he really feels like the fourth wheel. He really does seem to enjoy doing these national telecasts far more than Giants games. I will be shocked if he is still calling Giants games once his contract expires.
Seems like they’re auditioning a lot of guys this year.
Maybe Krukow is gonna call it quits after this season…
