A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Bomb Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 27, 2017

McCuller’s is gonna need to bring that sick bendy with him today because Houston has their hands full with Darvish. Yes, they know him. But that’s where the advantage ends. They have one hitter who’s had success off him (Springer):

Screenshot 2017-10-27 at 5.24.48 AM

But hey, it’s the World Series and the game of baseball seems to have been reduced to a home run derby. And Minute Made Park, at least left field, is a “joke” (Remember when Barry Bonds called it that during the 2004 Derby? And the right handers just kept flipping the ball into the left field stands???). Barry no likey.

So let’s hope Springer and his pals can blast 5 or 6 bombs off LA tonight and take the lead in this series…..

Tough at home, hope Stros can keep that up.

This, from blogger on mlbtr re: Girardi.
“These are the candidates? This is why they got rid of Girardi? For a shot at Tony Pena Tim Naehring and Raul Ibanez?”

Sac scored 70 in the 1st half and 36 in the 2nd? Ouch.

Anyone been to the new Sacto arena? Last game I saw there was 5 years ago at Arco . . .

The Yanks getting rid of Girardi smacks of the desperation of the 49ers dumping George Seifert.

“Sac scored 70 in the 1st half and 36 in the 2nd? Ouch.”

Endless 3-point range bricks in the second half. It drove me nuts. But that’s the NBA these days.
It also drives me nuts when the entire defense sags in when someone drives into the key. That’s how all these 3-point shot attempts are open all the time. I guess that’s what they are coached to do, but it just turns the NBA into constant 3-point shots, with the occasional closer shot. I fully understand that the off-side needs to help on defense, but sometimes it’s 3 or more guys trying to stop the guy driving in and all those 3-point shooters are open. It makes for lazy defense, IMO. Guys just start automatically sagging in all the time, and the NBA guys just throw the skip pass for a wide open 3. So we end up with the irony that the offenses want to shoot a bunch of 3s, and the defenses want to let them shoot them. Huh?

Headline I’m waiting to wake up one morning and read:
Giants announce Bruce bochy has been reassigned as director of reassigned roving supervisors.
Giants announce Joe Girardi has been hired as mgr.

This works on so many levels. First, he is 3000 miles away from intense scrutiny of NYC.
Second he is proven winner with 3 rings as player 1 as mgr. He has been successful (career avg. wins as mgr. 91, never less than 84) with all kinds of different teams. He’s won with aging overpaid vets (sound familiar?) and underpaid kids as in this year when they finished 2nd in division took out Tribe and went 7 with World Champion to be Stros.
Third, he is fiery guy not afraid to shake things up, and will challenge mgmt. to maintain talent level to compete with hated rivals (like the ones currently in WS).
4th, he played 10-12 years in the NL so he knows the game is played.
5th, NY connection with so many Giants including Rags Sabes Meulens (who stays as bench coach) and others.

    Just do it!
