A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Tyson Ross is lame. He always seems to handcuff us and he hasn’t been good in like 3 years….

Hard to score runs when Cutch, Posey and Longo(ut) go 0-12…

Up and down is what we are going to be until our pitching staff gets restored to mlb levels. I’m calling a win today, that base hit had to have taken a lot out of Richard the other night. lqtm….

All things considered, the Giants are hanging tough after the first half of the month. I wouldn’t have thought so looking at the schedule, combined with our patchwork pitching staff.

It’s frustrating when they do hit (as they did last night with 10), they’re never strung together where runs are scored. No surprise we’re last in that category.

Ross hasn’t been healthy in long time.
Hindsight being 20/20 re: health of Giants SPs, I really wish Giants had looked into him this winter when he was there for anyone interested. Could windup being a steal for the Pads who can run him out there every 5th day or sell him off to contender.

Smdrz going in San Jose tonite, the FLR too.
Last time I was there met up with blade and Snarkk who came in all the way from East Bay on Friday nite.
Small yard, full of families with kids, between inning give aways and promos and for $12 you could sit as close as you want. Plus big benches out where the bbq and food are served.
Had a great time, wonderful to see these guys in kick back environment and watch baseball besides.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 14, 2018 at 8:26 am

I went with my cousin’s family and had the same experience. We also went to the BBQ area just prior to the game and that alone is almost worth the price of admission. Entire ball park experience is kick back from way back . . . Frankly Willie, except for the product on the field (which is good baseball, but obviously not as good as the MLB product) – I much, much prefer the minor league vibes versus what occurs at the Phone Park. You’re just so close to the action and the overall experience just puts a smile on your face. Not bad mouthing the Phone Park, it’s just different. Almost like the commercialized Christmas today versus what I experienced in the 1960s.

Anyway, yeah – I loved it when I got together with you and Snarkk. I would do that every day and twice on Sunday (doubleheader? lol) if given a choice of going there or San Francisco, fighting the traffic, crowds, etc.

Minor league baseball rocks. AAA isn’t all that far separated at all from the ML product, but it’s fun at all levels. Willie summed it up, good family atmosphere, accessibility, pricing, etc. If you really enjoy baseball, it’s a great alternative to corporate game we find in the major leagues. I mean I got to see Ken Griffeyl, Jr. make his pro debut against the Bellingham Baby M’s, and saw Tim Lincecum dominate Tacoma about a couple of weeks before his ML debut. Can’t beat it:

Been to the Reno Aces ballpark twice, now called “Greater Nevada Field” it’s really a beautiful mini ATT with the bricks entering the stadium. They have a nice selection of craft&domestic beers on tap, ridiculous size burgers, foot long corn dogs.son-cones.soft serve, killer lemonades.Dollar Hot Dog day.Every Friday Night themed fireworks show, a berm grass seating area too for a cheaper ticket option. Its a great place &bang for your buck, highly recommend going to any flapper heading to Reno..

You all know that Melanoma received a stem cell injection. I was wondering what sort of timeline we can expect before he is back? I still have very little idea, but found this on the web:

“Most patients feel no improvement for at least 3 weeks and possible 6-8 weeks. Once you feel improvement, you will notice continued improvement expanding over 6 months. What is the recovery like after a stem cell procedure? There may be some mild soreness in the joint for up to a week after the injection.”

Joe Ritzo, who I’d never heard of, is a broadcaster for the San Jose Giants. He posted a photo of his scorecard from the game where the two SJ Giants hit for the cycle in the same game. The Hall of Fame has asked him for the scorecard. Pretty cool.

Belt’s on the bench tonight and, holy shit, most of the Giants pre-game show was about how gutless Belt has been (many video demos of him taking third strikes). Then they added insults about his recent defensive gaffes. Man.

I think Melancon may effectively be done.
A pitcher is not out for essentially a year like this and serious surgery without threat of being cashiered as an effective pitcher.
That’s $64 million at risk of down the toidy.
He’s been crap and basically ineffective since he blew his very first save opportunity in Arizona last year.
If he’s done, the Giants should do a post mortem on that deal and figure out what the hell happened with their due diligence, so they don’t do that again…

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on April 14, 2018 at 6:01 pm

The Giants ownership group would be justified in wanting some answers on that.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on April 14, 2018 at 6:07 pm

As fans, we no longer expect to see a contribution on the field from Melancon. He’ll try to get back on the field, which will keep him getting paychecks, but we’ve seen this kind of thing before with other players, such as Scutaro.
Maybe Melancon will make it back at some point down the road.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on April 14, 2018 at 6:05 pm

Once in a while you hear about a team getting an insurance company to pay off the contract of an injured player. Mets did it years ago with Mo Vaughn and I think have that option with David Wright. Anyone know what the deal is with that? Melancon seems like a perfect candidate…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 14, 2018 at 6:06 pm

Speaking of post mortems, they ought to perform one on Evan’s brain after he passes away, i.e., I have no idea what he was thinking signing and assuming Longoria’s 5 year contract.

One of the many great perks of coaching my son’s little league teams is getting to wear the team caps. All our little league teams are named after Minor League teams, as are the uniforms. So far I have coached the Blue Claws, Hooks, Thunder, and this year the River Dogs. Unfortunately I don’t think we have any Giants affiliates in our league.

As a Physical therapist specializing in sports medicine, and baseball nut is was an easy sell for me to connect with the GM of an Independent league in Long beach 18 years ago called the Long Beach breakers. I set up there pre season medical screening and helped the ATC ( a new grad) with team rehab.

I sat in the dugout for home games for their 1st 2 seasons. The manger was Steve Yeager and the Pitching coach was John Curtis ( former Giant, SD Padre). It was a blast. The players we all very cool. A few guys made it to majors, and a few had played in the Show! A highlight was when a guy on the team got beaned. The next inning i was sitting next to Curtis as Yeager explained to the pitcher that he had to hit there guy when we went out on the field.

The players all knew what was about to happen. It was tense and everyone in the dugout on the edge of the bench ready to run out to brawl. I was in dress cloths from work luckily cause the guys were saying I had to go kick ass with them since i was part of the team. Curtis got me out of it thankfully!

The 1st pitch a strike down the middle. Yeager almost had a stroke. He can curse like you wouldn’t believe. A string of F bombs God damn MF SOB can’t even hit a guy GD MF SOB useless MF and on and on…Screaming. fans could hear players on the field. It was hilarious. Good times at Blair field…
