Oh No They Didn’t
See anything stupid with the tag links at ESPN?

I will never click on the *Ohtani Tracker* so I don’t know what they are tracking. He’s going to be in Anaheim tonight, is that what they are tracking?
If you have to click on the *Ohtani Tracker* to get even more info on this dude who only plays like 4 days a week anyway then you are seeking too much information about him.
I don’t feel like an away inter league series is going to be the thing that fixes our limp bats….
I was looking at Pence’s career numbers. Although they weren’t quite as good as I thought they’d be, it’s hard for me to remember a player falling so far, so fast in every aspect of the game. Especially a guy who is supposedly so well conditioned compared to say Jim Ray Hart who was a big drinker with a bum shoulder…
Better to have limp bats then a limp dick!
Oh No (I don’t believe it)
great Zappa cut. “I think you’re probably out to lunch..”
From Weasels Ripped My Flesh (iirc) first FZ LP I bought. great cover too…rzzz
even though I was excited when we were in the hunt for Stanton and Ohtani and frankly surprised with what Ohtani has done so far considering he had an awful spring, I am enjoying Stanton struggling…
I wanted Ohtani way more than any of the other big fish free agents.
The Giants were never in the hunt for Stanton. He was the decider.
A little understood benefit of AT&T is that it weeds out stat seeking players, like Dunn and LaRouche. Stanton at least wanted to play for a contender and in front of a large crowd.
He would have been a good fit until his contract becomes a liability in a few years. Another little understood dynamic is paying your own players before free agents is a good thing. Take Matt Cain, he had his best year after extending his extension and Bumgarner signed his team friendly contract just six days later.
Bochy just has a boring group for most part. Clubhouse leaders are Craw and Posey, about as unemotional as they come. Add in Longo and Panik they could be financial advisers for Morgan Stanley.
Cutch is different but he’s hitting .211 and doesn’t have much to be excited about. Sando is only energy guy off bench and I’m actually surprised how little run he gets.
Play better and rack up some Ws I think they will look and act different, like vs. LA. Otherwise, no.
Good to see the Gigantes spin that “Mystical Wheel of Injuries.” Tick tick tick…aaand it’s….
Hunter Pence with a bum thumb!
Mac Williamson….come on down!
https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/04/19/mac-williamson-joining-giants-taxi-squad-hunter-pence-could-be-headed-for-dl/
I suggested the other day it could be a hammy. I guess the thumb is just as good – they can point to his play in the opener when he dove for a ball– so it’s plausible. If Williamson rakes, the thumb will probably take a turn for the worse…
Sugarcane Harris is on Weasels too, doing Little Richard’s song Directly From My Heart to You.
I saw him live in Palo alto at this small club that used to be right on corner of High St. and University. I think Stanford book store is there now.
Anyway great little place, had a couple different names mid 70s. Asleep at the Wheel, Mose Allison, Sonny Terry/Brownie McGee Harvey Mandel lot of good bands played there. And uh, occasionally afterward got forcible reminder High was one way street there from those in car I was driving around.
Yeah I use to go to Keystone in PA great place.
Saw Ronnie Montrose their kick ass ZZ Top more kick ask!
Robert Cray is playing at the Fox in Redwood City tonight, and in Santa Cruz Saturday night that’s one I wish I could make but sadly I’m busy with prior commitments 😫
I have seen Robert Cray a number of times. He has had the same band for a long time now, and damn, they are solid!
Robert Kray in the cellar at Larry Blake’s, decades ago. Great shows.
I mean, Cray
I went in there a bunch of times when I was at Cal.
Great place.
Crazy dangerous firetrap underneath…
Saw Jerry Garcia a bunch of times there as well as Neil Young, Alvin Lee, John Lee Hooker, Michael Schenker Group, Joie Perry Project and a bunch of other bands. Awesome venue.
and montrose as well a few times
Best recent managerial innovation: bringing in your stud reliever when the tie or lead is in jeopardy.
Worst recent managerial innovation: the six man rotation. It would be one thing if they pitched everyone with five days rest, using a sixth starter when necessary, but Ohtani had to wait eight days after his brilliant one-hitter.
Mccovey Chronicles, is this a good assessment of the Giant management team
Friday BP, 4/20/18
Either Mac Williamson’s due or he’s done, right?
The Giants have washed out so many hitting prospects over the years because of their organizational impatience with people under the age of 30. They’ve been saying “Those damn kids” for nearly two generations now, and Mac Williamson’s career feels like it was gobbled up by this mentality.
The key with young players is to not give the manager veteran options to turn to, because he will, without fail, turn to the veterans. And the veterans, as we know, get the longest possible period of trial and error. Mac Williamson’s had some chances, and he’s done well when given an extended look, but hopefully, he knows now that he’s not going to get an extended look and figures out a way to succeed this weekend.
But, of course, the healthiest approach he can have is to not tie his happiness to other people’s judgment. If he has personal goals and meets them, then it doesn’t matter if his manager thinks he’s a failure because he went 0-for-2 with 2 walks and scored the team’s only run.

He needs to take advantage of whatever opportunity he’s given. And then he is going to have to adjust to what the pitchers do to him. The only guy the Giants mildly whiffed on is Duvall and he’s been decent mostly because of the park he plays in. I don’t think Willy is going to be any good but who knows, maybe he could be the “Duvall” we never had…..
Maybe Williamson can offer a jolt of some energy. Willie’s post about about this being a boring team, still, is pretty spot on. It’s been bad and boring now for going on 2 full seasons. They frequently just look like they play half asleep. Maybe they all get along, but so does a litter of sleeping puppies…
Hey – don’t be baggin’ on the puppies with a comparison the this Giants team. 😉
Count me dubious that Samardzxxx will be throwing real well tonite in the Big A. Hopefully we can hold Trout to only 2 homers in the series. The way this SF team hits, taking 2 outta 3 seems like trying to climb to the top of a greased Matterhorn at Disneyland…
In the series? I’m hoping the game.
You’re probably right, Chuck.
Smardzxxx gave up a bunch of homers in San Jose…
“Robert Cray is playing at the Fox in Redwood City”
The Fox is a great venue, I agree. I saw Emmylou Harris perform there. Great show. I loved the venue.
I saw Cray perform in the Central Valley many years ago. Great show.
Yeah, just comparing the Giants to the Phillies shows a stark difference. The Phillies have guys like Herrera and Crawford that are making things happen, doing things like scoring from firstbase on a single last night. Creating excitement, putting pressure on the other team. It’s just so different from where the Giants offense is these days.
Glad they kept one of the Fox theaters in the area. There used to be one in Burlingame, San Mateo, RC, Palo Alto, and Millbrae.
THe last movie in the San Mateo Fox was Play Misty for Me , iirc.
Great flick a young Donna Mills as Clint’s gf and the psycho bitch Jessica Walters who was outstanding in her role as a stalker..
One of Clint’s best flicks.
Jessica was really good as the wacko, long before Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction…
Yup. KRML . . .great movie. Kinda like his real life down there.
The league isn’t exactly littered with former Giants prospects. The org has fast tracked every position player with ability that translates to MLB (Sandoval, Posey, Belt). Then there’s the guys they’ve taken a chance on that other org didn’t value (Sheirholtz, Crawford, Panik, Duffy). The club’s problem isn’t giving players enough run to prove themselves. It’s identifying, drafting and developing the talent.
Still haven’t won a single series so far. Maybe the offseason shake up of the scout/draft personnel will pan out but really I think the whole org, starting with Baer needs a dramatic makeover.
Baer is a mixture of the good and not-so-good. I appreciate his love and honoring of Giants history and tradition, and making that a key part of the team’s identity. But, on the other hand, an organization always needs to be aware of the future and where things are heading. The Giants organization had tremendous success, then seemed to ossify and fossilize. We’re just not at where baseball’s at right now.
The starting pitching overall has been better than expected during April, especially given the injuries.
And L J had good analysis of Stratton yesterday: “What I see is a polished pitcher with command of three big league-worthy pitches and an excellent mound demeanor. I only hope it’s not all smoke and mirrors. I don’t think it is. He’s going to have his rough spots this year, but he looks like a legit 3-4 guy to me.”
If Smarj can be decent (and there’s no guarantee of that, of course,) the rotation has the potential to have a surprisingly productive season, especially when Bum returns. The bullpen, maybe eventually, too.
The hitting…..that’s a more challenging work in progress…..
So far, pitching has not been the problem.
They only gave up 7 runs in 3 games vs Dbacks.
You can’t win when you can’t score…
I think the Giants need a serious makeover in the organization.
Ossify is a good description, per zumiee. Sabes and Evans have been around a long, long time.
New blood in the organization is needed.
Plus, is this team really focused on baseball, or is that cash cow ballpark just a piece of an emerging real estate empire?
I don’t know if there is such a person, but I’d take a senior manager in the Cubs org under Theo Epstein. Esptein has put together two WS organizations, somebody schooled in his approach should be a good choice. Hopefully the next field manager comes from outside the organization, that is good practice to bring in new ideas and views…
And for anyone that thinks Ron Wotus will be the next manager your seriously delusional ,just like are players nobody wanted him as a manager either..
Agree with the need for a makeover. Have not heard that much about changes in the scouting ranks, but they need to load-up on guys who can identify talent. While Booby has been with the org for a long time, to date I am not impressed with his GMism. Agree with snarkk that we need fresh blood from outside of the org.
And we need to win a fucking series, NOW!
Mac batting 7th tonight
Hundley 6th, ahead of him.
WTF? Magnifies that article the other day on Hundley and Bochy…
That’s where they batted the fat kids and sissies in Little League…
Happy 4/20 all

Good news on who I will be calling Cheesy Mac. He needs 2 months and he has to prove he is big league material…this could be the beginning of the new era in Giants history.
Buster is of the past and McCutch is just a mirage for a year…
For those who’ve forgotten, Mac has already had 234 MLB PA and turns 28 in July…
I’m calling a bomb for him tonight.
Good call
and people wonder why James Shields has been in decline for so long….
In Ball Four, written almost half a century ago, Bouton referred to baseball as a game being “choked by statistics.”
And now look what the fuck we got – CAT scans of release points…
what kind of dumbfuck was *choked by stats* 50 years ago? RBIs and BA too much for him to handle?
A lot to deal with back then, Flav:
I see that I am once again paying for the MLB TV free game of the day…
you guys should find out how Blade gets that free pirated shit on his phone
Take that, Brisbee!
lulz what happens to the on base pct when you touch all 4 of them with one swing?
lol that is fantastic!
Is brisbee on the ffucking Woarriors Outsiders? That has to be the stupidest show in existence, next to Ray fucking Ratbag on Happy hour.
Brisbee is on the Giants Outsiders, not the Warriors version.
For the record, Brisbee didn’t write that lineup article in McC Chronicles. It was Doug Buzone. And in the article, Buzone said batting Hundley as high as 6th is defensible.
I know. It sounds better when you use Brisbee’s name.
🙂
Nats have an early 2-0 lead over Kershaw.
Scherzer for the Nats.
Man, the Astros are stacked, pitching, hitting, defense. They’re just routing the White Sox.
Yeah, they improved their team after winning the World Series by adding Cole. And their young players are fully in their prime.
So, Hundley hit a bomb? OK, he’s cleanup guy for the next week…
Yeah, fucking drilled it the other way.
Big Mac!
Wow
Hey!!!!
Williamson (doesn’t suck)!
Double Wow
FLAVOR!!!
the MRI results on Hunter Pence’s sprained thumb are rolling in now, and they don’t look good
Exactly. Looks now like it went from a grade1 to grade 3 sprain…
That was a shot!
Possibly the best display of bunting in one inning I’ve ever seen in my life. Still not a fan.
Obvious key to this team is cosmic in nature – bad mouth the player a la Belt, and bombs rain the opposition. Works every frickin’ time.
Offense!
They should make Mac the batting coach
A Big Mac home run? A bunt for a hit? Who are these guys?
Wow, Steve Bedrosian’s kid is in the majors.
Mac has already goosed the energy level.
Awesome ! Keep it going…
The white ax are barley a ML team this year, John.
They just pounded the Mariners 3 of 4 here too. They’ll be 14-7 after tonight. It’s just the talent they have that is hard to ignore.
They are 4-12. They suck hard.
Charlie, that’s one great post. Ranks right up there with Kat’s skink stuff…. 🙂 Autocorrect is pretty funny.
Cutch!
Break this baby wide open!
‘Bout time, Cutch!
Hard to beat a 3 run dinger !…
now this is more like it
(not to be forgotten, the angels looked pretty funny trying to make a play on Specs’ bunt)
Dropping a bunt — makes the defense make a play it doesn’t make all that often, puts pressure on…
Yeah, baby!!!
Scherzer up 3-0 over Kershaw.
Andrew Baggarly
@extrabaggs
13m13 minutes ago
Mac Williamson strolled into a big league lineup, and in his second at-bat, made the hardest contact by a Giant this season. Exit velo of 114.2 mph on that 434-foot homer to the opposite field.
a language expert would not like those commas, but Baggarly always seems willing to push it just a bit more than the other beat guys
Giants needed a 7-0 lead when Dusty gave the ball to Felix in bottom 7th at the Big A in game 6, 2002…
I was having a drink with my son during the first few innings and he reminisced back back to that game, too. Traumatic event for an eleven year old.
Pretty traumatic for a 41 year old too. lol
I think it was Worrell, maybe…
Nope, you’re right – it was Felix…
Who did Mac credit for helping him figure out a new swing? I’m guessing not one of the team’s current batting coaches. The best defense is a good offense….
Some guy who who helped Justin Turner with his swing.
A free-lance coach.
The talk about getting a pitcher the win drives Brian Kenny crazy. He HATES that stat. To him, it’s not even a stat.
I thought that one was gone.
Holy shit. Just got home from being out to dinner. Thought Shark had surrendered a salami. Whew…
Good first start back for the Shark. And from a psychological standpoint alone I don’t see any problem with Bochy wanting to give a guy a shot at the win. He hasn’t played all season, the Giants need him and he’ll probably leave with a big lead. Nothing wrong with that, imo, sabermetrics or not.
Just saw the replay of Mac’s HR. NICE POKE! So happy for him. I don’t have high hopes, but hope he proves me wrong.
Scherzer up 4-0 over Kershaw.
Maybe the Giants should can their hitting coaches and just keep using that “some guy” freelancer…..
That’s a serious battle royale, Scherzer v. Kershaw.
Damn, missed the 5th-inning fireworks. Big Mac, baby! And Flav at 6:14, how does he do it?
Close this out, and then win a fucking series! Hard to believe this team hasn’t won one yet.
Love that scrappy Kelby.
I followed the 1st inning on MLB.com, and the pitch-by-pitch had Smardj striking out Trout on a 78 MPH knuckle-curve. Is this a new pitch for Smardj?
