As you know, I have a bet with the great San Dawg on how many quality starts this chump will stagger through this season. We settled on 4.5 as the number. I’m telling you, that devastating World Series choke job has knocked the Dog-ears for a major loop. They were emotionally fragile to begin with and blowing a home game 7 with a chance to win their first title in 29 years was like a good strong kick to the cherries. Love it.

They’re going to have a very difficult time getting through the Warriors this year, assuming both make it to the finals. I do agree that Brad Stevens is one of the best coaches in the league, if not the best. And the last dynasty they had was in the ’60’s, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The Celts are pretty impressive, without Irving and Haywood. With them, they will be tough. And with James going to the Pot Dealers (Fakers, Jr. Art Dealers, whatevs), they definitely take over the east. Toronto is but a paper tiger.

This is me being critical of the coaches. To wit:
“Camilo Doval is one of the weirdest pitching prospects in the minors. He seemingly has no idea how to grip the baseball. I’ve seen his fastball range anywhere from 92-99 within the same inning of work, and sometimes they have natural cut and spin in at a supernatural 2700 rpms at any speed in that range, and other times they have no movement at all. Cutting fastballs with this kind of velocity and spin combo don’t really exist. Doval needs to cross a yawning developmental chasm to reach the big leagues. It’s probably going to take a while for him to develop just as a reliever. We’re not sure if he’s good, but he’s weird in a very specific way that indicates he could be strong if his stuff is properly harnessed.”
WTF? Get one of our “roving” coaches (Dave Righetti???) to do his frickin’ job or one of these other guys sitting on their asses to assist in the development of prospects like this. I am half kidding, but there’s no excuse for what I just read above if it is accurate.

The most footsure path to the playoffs is to win the division. To do this, the Giants need to make full use of their 40 man roster. I’m not sure how it works exactly, if they can’t take Beede off of it, they need to trade him. If Pence isn’t already on the 60 Day DL, do so now. Either Gorkys Hernandez or Blanco needs to go, or better yet find something wrong with Jackson which will require 60 days to heal.
They also need to take advantage of the 10 Day DL. Until Bumgarner returns, their best starter may not even be on the 40 man roster, let alone the 25. Dereck Rodriguez deserves a shot. They need to maintain an eight man bullpen for the upcoming road trip, and it wouldn’t kill them if any of their current starters skip a turn in the rotation.
Shaw? I want to see him. Williamson? When he returns, he’s in left.
Watch the other teams injury reports. While I love McCutchen, maybe they can get a valuable piece for him and keep Slater or have Willuamson AND Shaw in the starting lineup.

Pablo got the ball and stepped on 1st. 3rd out. The HP ump called it foul off Votto’s foot despite the umps all talking it over. Don’t know why they couldn’t review it.

i didn’t see the final pitch of the game but I posted the screen shot of it in the main thread. #7 was the final pitch of the game, clearly a ball. Belt REALLY went off on Doug Eddings after the game. He’s going to get fined for that.
Belt did not get frozen by heat on the black that time–that pitch was well outside and Belt was right. He should’ve walked and the tying run should’ve come to the plate. That strike three call was a bullshit way to end a game. I hope Belt gets fined and challenges it and shows that ump up behind the scenes as much as possible with appeals and so forth. The video and statcast data will prove Belt right and the ump an asshole, even though the fine will stick.
