I’m Sick of Skinny Rick Reuschel
I agree with Loo on the last thread (big t-up dawg, big t-up). Not enough angst was expelled after yesterday’s epic loss. When your team is bubbling it’s way through the season you can’t just *aw shucks* a loss off like that. Especially when we now head into the den of the division leader.
At this point I don’t care who the closer is until Dipshit gets back as long as it isn’t Dyson. That dude does not have the make up for that job. When we were 1000 games out last year it didn’t matter. But I’m calling *head case* on this guy and I don’t want to see him out there in the 9th again unless there’s no one else to use…..
You score 8 and don’t win is a bucket full of rotting tripe. Dyson is what, 3-7 in save ops now? I say go with Moronta for awhile until Melancon figures his shit out.
I have heard that it isn’t figuring it out with Melancon, but more about whether or not his elbow is up to the task of closing everyday. Right now, he isn’t there.
I thought the Ls to Marlins were worse. Once SF got out of Miami they’ve played much better.
Bigger issue to me was Stratton who got rocked. Listening to Flem during big inning he kept mentioning Rox jumping on first pitch and being ready to hit right away. Dunno whether it was what Hundley was calling or Strat leaving too many meatballs up there but they were all over him.
Toys R Us is toast. Used to be a big one in Sunnyvale where I grew up, pretty popular place. Don’t remember story behind it, but multiple reports by employees it was haunted.
Now we all miss Stricknine. What a strange season. Pavlovic has a level-headed view of the problem.

Great read, and I get it. It isn’t as easy as just striving someone in there and saying “your the guy.”
Speaking of bullpens, Dodgers led 3-1 after Op left after 5 strong innings and proceeded to give up 10 earned over next 3 as Cubs blasted them 11-5. Yes they have elite closer, but getting to him and Roberts knowing what he’s doing 2 different things.
You know they could of pinch ran for Posey and the runner would of scored on Hanson’s double for a 9 th run ..But nooooo!!
Bochy fairly often has chances to pinch run somebody late, and won’t, in cases like that. I’ve mentioned this many times. He seems afraid of losing a player going into extras, but that’s a problem you deal with, after you first get to the extras…
Pinch-running would have gotten some action for the Actionless one.
Skinny Rick reuschel is a $ nickname, too.
The Red Sox, Yanks, and Dodgers all have closers that strike people out. That’s an ideal situation.
Kimbrel closed out the Red Sox game last night by blowing away Trout.
When we had Romo, Casilla, Lopez, Affeldt in their prime they could get big strike outs.
In this juiced ball era, it’s tougher being a pitch-to-contact guy.
Yeah, I thought the same thing when I was watching the replays of the double by Hansen. That ball he hit rattled around in the corner more than long enough for Damien Moss, uh I mean Buster, to score. Dusty before bochy was reluctant to use pinch runners, as we all remember in 2003 . . .
As xoot posts above I think it’s basically Dyson because none of the other arms are durable enough. Strickland’s bone head act putting himself on the DL sucks but I still don’t think he’s the answer at closer anyway and just as likely would’ve blown that save as well.
Hanson would of had a triple on his hit if wasn’t for Posey running.
Then wtf let the kid try a steal home, now that would be a Ricky Henderson moment!!
Moronta has the stuff to do it. I’d roll with him. He’s young and strong. They’ve all looked very good in the pen most of the time, but they’ve all puked on their cleats as well. Hard to nail this down but in the next-man-up scenario, Dyson should be out and Moronta in. That get-it-in slider by Dyson was hideous.
Kruk let Dyson off the hook for the meatball by saying you have to pitch to Giant-killer LeMaihuie (whatever) on that 3-2 count, but you DO NOT have to give in in that situation. With 2 outs, you can focus on the next guy rather than serve the ball up on a tee. Or walk the fucking bases loaded to get a better matchup. Ludicrous to say that was the right play.
Skinny Rick Reuschel is gold.
I was never in the Dyson camp. IMO, he is one of those Sabevans scrap heap pieces that hasn’t worked out, at least not from the perspective of being an everyday closer. And I get it that being the everyday closer is not the reason they got him, but still…go closer by committee until Strickland is back. RE: Strick, I am not saying he is the end-all to be-all closer, but with the current pen, I think Strickland was the best option. I like Moranta, but not ready to give him the role everyday.
he’s very good as a set up man. Closing in pressure situations isn’t his thing.
I’d give the closer role to Watson are Smith both have save experience in their pass..
College World Series final was anti-climatic, but the kid Abel, for Oregon State (a freshman), threw a 129 pitch complete game to shut-out Arkansas. He also threw 23 pitches in game two, on Wednesday. Damn!
Chi..Didnt that Arkansas pitcher Knight?
Pitched game 1 look a lot like Timmy?
Had some major gas ⛽️ as well, he was dealing..
He does kind of look like Timmy, though he is taller. Knight went 14-0 this year.
Hey, that loss yesterday will be a mere blip if this team can rattle off, say 4-2 on this roadie. We have actually been beating up on the west recently.
Just keep it going.
Even you want to keep 2 lefties in the pen you can still use Suarez in a that roll..
Só no excuse not using Smith are Watson to close..
An idea I floated last year in the second half, when Cueto was injured, was to have a 6-man rotation, but have Bum pitch every 5th day, and just rotate the other 5 guys off of that. But that’s too far outside the box for Bochy.
I like the 6 man idea, that’s assuming the extra day of rest means each starter goes deeper than the usual 5 frames. If that doesn’t happen, the Pen really gets abused since there’s one less pen arm…
They could, for lack of a better word, cheat like the Dodgers, and use the 10 day DL creatively.
I keep hearing on KNBR that Buster is “dinged up” but nobody ever says what that means. Apparently the beat scribes never bother to directly ask the question. We’re essentially at the halfway point of season, and he’s been “dinged up” apparently for quite a while already. Catchers historically start to decline around his age. But this guy seems like he’s 30 in a 35 year old body. What gives?…
Sore hip, according to Kuiper.
Maybe a longterm effect of the broken leg and how his leg was twisted during that injury, IMO.
That would explain the power drop. You cant’ drive the ball if you can’t turn your hips properly. But he hit 22 HRs 3 years after the injury. and 19 the next year. He’s on pace for 10 now. Is his hip degenerating a la Bo Jackson?
Could be a degenerative situation to some degree.
The not-so-fantastic-four seem to be going a little deeper into games in recent starts. Once Cueto returns they can even pull this of better. And when Smarglebargle comes back, we can say Vaya Con Dios to Gearrin.
I’ll be surprised if it’s Gearrin who goes. They gave him a 1.6 million contract this season. That matters in Giants World.
Christ. Charlie Johnson has that kind of scratch in the cushions f his couch.
But the coin in those cushions, nor any of his other tall dollars matter when it comes to the team trying to stay under the luxury tax threshold.
Among active closers in 2018 Strickland is middle of the pack in WHIP and at the bottom for save % with 76.5. Before the meltdown against Miami I felt like he was sort of growing into the roll but his inability to be professional ended up F-ing the club. Roster moves with Smar-jizz and Cueto coming back will be interesting. Dumping Gearrin and Pence would certainly clear up some log jam. Maybe Rodriguez can close.
Every closer has a meltdown now and then, even Mariano Rivera in the WS vs. Arizona. But they have to shrug it off. I’ve mentioned this before: my worst Giants’ bp memory has to be Goosefuckin Gossage walking the bases loaded and walking a run in, if memory serves.
76% is more than ‘now and then’. Benitez is was and will be my least favorite closer.
Baer was saying the same BS last night concerning their luxury tax Chi…
So I’m their closed mind thinking it’s still a luxury to them to keep Lexi Pence,MIAJ, and human rain delay Gearrin!!
Btw when has Gearrin pitched last? Since they have been in most of their games lately they don’t need him for mop up duty..
Not defending them Kat, but staying below this year gives them a reset, and a much more favorable landscape going forward. I guess Charles Johnson didn’t become the richest owner in baseball by throwing around his coin carelessly. Seems the ones with the most $$ are the ones tightest with the purse strings.
First, I say Moronta for closer because I picked him up in my fantasy league once Strickland went down. I was no fool and stayed away from Dyson.
And let’s not talk about Posey and deteriorating hip…we need to trade him before anyone figures this out..
We still owe posey ~$100 million. Not gonna happen.
Plesac, on the MLB Network the other day, talked about his hip issues at the end of his career. The baseball career can grind down a hip.
And that’s basically what did Timmy in.
Do what’s Posey’s walkup music?
Hip to be square? What is hip?
What is Hip? by Tower of Power.
Do you remember an excellent Cornhusker RB by the name of I.M. Hipp?
isaiah Moses.
I think I ranked What is Hip? one of my fav all time songs ever.
Chris Bosio was fired as pitching coach for the Tigers for using a racial slur, basically the same one Roseanne Barr used. Like Roseanne, Bosio tried to use a lame excuse. Bosio claimed he was talking about a white guy. No one is believing that. No one from the Tigers is defending him.
I forgot. Who is agent 000?
Adrianza
Going tonight to a game at Frontier Field in Rochester. I went 2 years ago. Good downtown stadium. I’ll let you know if Emmanuel Burriss shows up.
Spider monkey is what Bosio said? Excuse me for not jumping to conclusions, but if someone called Kent Tekulve spider monkey, no one would bat an eye.
This rush to judge and convict people these days is scary. Like the false equivalence of Al Franken and Roy Moore.
Roseanne’s tweet was much much different. And much more incendiary.
What if Bosio was talking about his visit to the zoo with his kids? Would that result in his firing?
It’s believed he was talking about a black clubhouse worker.
The black clubhouse worker is the one who complained about it.
Bob Costas: “Yankees/Redsox is an ancient rivalry.”
Ancient rivalry. Ancient.
The Yankees and Red Sox first competed against each other during the reign of Cesar Augustus.
Caesar, that should be. I’m not sure if autocorrect did that.
Howard Cosell took some grief when he said”Look at that monkey run” in a Washington Redskins game, but never in the football laurels would they consider dumping him, a legend of MNF along with Dandy Don, and Frank Gifford..
Cosell was a lot of things, but a racist wasn’t one of them. I remember him defending himself saying he calls his own grandchildren “little monkeys”. I believe him…
1. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Austin Slater (R) LF
7. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
8. Austin Jackson (R) CF
9. Andrew Suarez (L) P
If nothing else MINAJ should be well rested…
OK, girls. Enlighten me. I must have missed the thread where Actionless (and I still love that name), became MINAJ. What is the backstory?
Someone suggested Missing In Action Jackson. MINAJ.
Because he was playing so little.
I like it. Even better than Actionless. Works for me. Thanks for the back story, Zum.
Missing in action Jackson – MINAJ. Brilliat whoever came up with thta/.
Yeah, who came up with that? We must give credit. 🙂
pretty sure it was Loo
I’m pretty sure it was Kat who gave him the full name.
I just shortened it.
A lot of the nicknames we use are combined efforts…
i had actionless, but ceded the official nickname to loo. well played, sir
I’m still rather fond of the name Actionless. There’s room for more than one great nickname.
Agree, Zum. I dig both Actionless and MINAJ. They’re both awesome.
The Yanks are going all juice-ball launch-angle on the Red Sox.
The McClain bat is the first maple bat I’ve ever held.
I can definitely tell how much harder it is than the Mays, McCovey and Barry Bonds bats that I have.
I guess those are all ash. Bonds went to maple later in his career when they started allowing them…
i was struck by its balance. It’s fun to swing.
I have never swung a maple bat, but after this comment I am curious, and want to swing one. Can you send me that bat, Loo? 😉
I’ll wait-list you, Chi…
I understand fans who are sick of the Warriors, but dang I’m sick of LeBron James telenovela drama that takes up every sports section every day every national site. And it’ll never end, even after he decides who will he play for next.
At .250 Corbin has higher BA than 5 of other guys in LU. Keep ball in the yard (as Suarez just barely did) and they should be OK. Sando and Belt love hitting here too.
MLB baserunning these days….
Slater ain’t the only one in Giants uni tonite.
And more awesome MLB baserunning.
I’m at the Mausoleum watching A’s v Cleveland. Pooch night, hundreds of dogs. That’s cool. But, what a dump this is. However, small Bud only $6. Comparison to ATT vibe is unfair…
what moved you to go to this game?
Suarez’s bunting….
Baggs said Cueto threw 4 shutout innings striking out 6, 69 pitches.
Hope the Yanks were watching…
Rockin’ my SF kid proudly here in the A’s dump. Here with a group of other adults hosting exchange high schoolers from Mexico, along with the kids. We got on jumbotron vid. Group tix give you $6 value/ticket at concession, so I’m pounding two big Buds = $18 for 3 tickets. Not bad. What’s a Bud at ATT? $11 ? …
SF Lid…
Either way works…
Suarez ERA dropped to 4.18. Even duel with Corbin after 100 pitches. As Kruk mentioned 5 of 7 hits he gave up were IF.
He pitched well, kept his cool, made a couple of good fielding plays. Now if he can just learn how to bunt . . . .
Slater! Boom!
Boom another opposite field rocket by Slater.
I like this kid!
the Austin Slater shift will feature 3 OFs to the right of CF
No shit…
Awesome Austin!
Fucking Pablo….come on…move the runner, that is ALL you need to do there!
MINAJ blows, hard….
And he gets replaced for defensive purposes. Pretty embarrassing for him.
he got replaced for all purposes
Please don’t serve one up to this fuck…
Moronta lucky to be alive.
I get it, and support that this team is going to have to close by committee, but the two guys I would prefer to see run out there regularly are the Fresh Prince and Watson (with a smattering of Moranta). Glad to see Smith will get the call tonight.
My two favorite teams: the Giants, and whoever is playing the bums. Go Rox!
Slater is raking, tonight! Hey xoot, where was that shift? 😉
the coaches were arguing in the dbags dugout. No consensus tonight. Maybe tomorrow.
According to Hank, the FLR will be after his second career save right here.
And gets it very nicely done. And great comeback W after yesterday, on road vs. first place team.
Beautiful pitch for strike two!
BOOM! Ballgame. Smith fucking dominated the 9th!
Big Will Smith is just what this bullpen needed.
Good morning. Good afternoon. And goodnight!
Mr. Smith gets the save! Big win!
beautiful pitch for strike three!
Strike two was a beauty, too! Great close by the Fresh Prince.
Will Smith in a word: FILTHY!
Now that was a nice 9th.
Yup, completely stress free.
Time for Clint . . .
Postgame, Slater just sounds intelligent in explaining his approach to his ABs. Dude sure seems to knows what he is doing at the plate. I like this kid. Hope he gets more opportunities, and continues to prove he deserves the chances.
he’s a good Stanford man.
W Davis gives up solo bomb to Turner but closes them out with K of Bellinger. Final 3-1 Rox.
Yep. Rox take the bums down. Giants and bums now tied in the W column, and Giants are 23-21 against the NL West.
Cueto tonight in Sacto: 4IP, 4 H, 6 Ks, 1BB, no runs. Johnny Cueto…come on down!
