Changes
I can’t remember a more invisible signing than Austin Jackson. And then one July afternoon he just flittered away into a warm summer breeze, never to be seen again…..
He is going to pick it up in Texas. Dude needs the American League and the Rangers will use him the way he was supposed to be used: strictly vs left handed pitching. It’ll be interesting to see if Duggar’s defense will make up for his “actionless” bat…
Kyle Hendricks is pretty lost this year, let’s crush him…..
Should have won the series against the Cards, but a split is better than a series loss. Hoping to see the bats stay alive…we need a bunch of bat porn against the cubbies and Fucking A’s.
good post. It’s not enough for me if Duggar (or Slater) are better than AJ, that’s easy to do. I want to see if they can contribute to Giants being a winning team. Duggar especially seems like classic back up QB syndrome where everyone is convinced he’s the answer. Twitter nuts who already have his HOF plaque polished blamed Bochy for making him bunt with 2 on and big boys coming up–it was good move that the kid totally f-ed up.
Gorks is having fine enough season with near .775 OPS and 11 bombs. Neither of these 2 will get near the bombs so I want to see them at least get on base and get the OPS to .750 range.
Seeing Andres just makes me wonder more how long Gorks can sustain his decent run. Torres was very cool player until it all slid rapidly downhill.
Was thinking yesterday must have been great game to see–glad Xoot got to be there and enjoy!
Even giving Black a pass for being amped in his first appearance, the guy looks like Musclehead II. Hopefully he can settle the control. Fastball looked very straight. With Duggar and Slater up, giants likely not doing any more in OF. Time for them to show up and do some work. Pence is hired in apparently as counselor and sometime PHer at $3 million per month for the duration barring injuries or caffeine addiction treatment…
I can’t believe Texas is stupid enough to take are rejects!! Did it with Moore as well..
The giants kid Bahr is a decent prospect a year into development. Tex may be able to use Gearrin, and Actionless may feel more at home back in the AL, or they flip him. TX has a lot of money, at worst they’re buying a young pitcher prospect. Not a bad deal on their side. For Giants, they draft so many pitchers they can afford to piss one away to get rid of dumpster dive dudes with Aisle 2 salaries as the team approaches the wrong end of the Neutral Zone before the lux tax barrier…
this is crazy

Yet, very “green” in using solar power.
They also got their milk in glass bottles that were used over and over.
When I was a kid in the 1960s, my grandmother was still getting her milk delivered in glass bottles from a milkman.
The house I grew up in had a clothesline in the backyard.
i have a vague memory of the milkman in the mid 70’s.
We hang some clothes in our backyard these days, but in a more improvised way, without a clothesline.
I still use my “Chinese Laundry “ clothesline on the side of my house, once their dry I will throw them in the dryer with one wet towel to get the crusty feel out of the clothes..
My great-grandmother had a dairy, and my grandpa milked the cows in the morning before he went to work at a zinc plant. We got our milk in one gallon glass jars with the Kerr-type screw-on lids. There was always about 3 inches of cream on the top. We typically just shook the jar to mix the cream with the milk. I don’t even drink dairy/cow milk anymore. We also for a period had the milkman delivering our milk in, yes, glass jars. Sad we have become such a “disposable/throw-away society.”
We have a clothes line we use that is on a reel…goes betwen a tree and our house. We use it regularly in the summer to save on electricity and to alleviate the heat the dryer generate. Clean and green baby.
blurb from the Athletic on what Giants gave up in Bahr:
Bahr, a fifth-round pick in 2017, was one of the Giants’ biggest breakout prospects this season. The Central Florida alum had a 2.75 ERA and an 88:21 K:BB in 68 2/3 innings with Low-A Augusta before earning a promotion to High-A San Jose. In his first three starts in the California League, Bahr allowed three runs in 16 innings (1.69 ERA) and posted a 15:3 K:BB.
While the Giants have every reason to point their assets towards getting the big league club to the postseason, they are losing a significant part of their starting pitching depth with this trade. Bahr didn’t yet have the national prospect profile of a Shaun Anderson or Tyler Beede, but scouts have raved about the life on his fastball, which sits at 91-94 mph and can touch 96. His slider and changeup have taken significant steps forward this year, as well.
At 6-foot-6, Bahr has the frame to handle a heavy starter’s workload and he gets enough extension and deception on his delivery to make his fastball appear harder than it is coming out of his hand. He is likely to start next season in Double-A and could reach the big leagues by the end of the 2019 campaign. Starting pitching wasn’t an area of depth for the Giants before the draft in June, but they loaded up on college pitchers in the top-10 rounds, which likely made it easier for the Giants front office to part with Bahr.
And the Giants hitting on Rodriguez was a big boost. Suarez, also.
Cueto and Smarj are locked in because of contracts.
Bum is actually the wild card going forward, regarding his next contract.
Sounds like we gave up a solid prospect, but I am OK if that is what it took to move Actionless and Gearrin.
Yeah are block used to have milk 🥛 Glass bottles delivered by Foremost.Me and a couple buddies would wait till the driver got back in his truck and we would hop on the back and hang on for a ride up the street. We all ended up with a few strawberries on our knee caps at different times..
Well we all thought Tim Anderson & Zach Wheeler we’re going to be studs, now their out to pasture grazing…
“Sad we have become such a “disposable/throw-away society.””
On The Andy Griffith Show, Emmitt makes a living with his “fix-it shop.” Younger generations are probably perplexed by it, if they watch the show. They see Enmitt repairing a toaster, and they think: “Why bother repairing a toaster? Just throw it away and buy a new one, because they’re so low-priced nowadays.”
And so we have an economy now built on gigantic amounts of throw-away stuff, and massive landfills of garbage. As if that’s sustainable.
(Spoiler alert: it’s not.)
Rude welcome to The Show for Black. Hopefully he shows some ability to locate in the near future. Duggar’s calling cards are speed and defense but is he significantly better than Hernandez? Hopefully he’s not the next Darren Ford.
Recent bay area talk radio chatter indicates the Posey to 1b move is happening soon, maybe even next year. That means Belt to LF which is a mistake imo as Posey contributes next to nothing in power numbers. I guess it would solve the OF for the most part. Adding Harper would be pretty epic but hard to see it happening.
Carpenter came up looking for 100 mph heat and Black stupidly delivered it. The OFs didn’t move an inch. They just watched that bomb sail high over the RF wall. Very Stricknine like moment
Yeah, Carpenter got all of that one. It seemed inevitable after Black struggled against the previous 3 batters. Still, Black got his feet wet and hopefully he’s less amped up next time out.
Yeah, the Berkeley Farms guy would come in to our house and put the milk in the fridge. He’d always bring a bowl of cottage cheese for the dogs as it would keep them from attacking him.
Strange days indeed.
Zach Wheeler is still around and thowing the smoothest 98 mph gas you are ever going to see. I still think he will be a guy with multiple double digit win seasons.
I don’t love the trade. i had a soft spot for Gearrin. Pitched well last year and seemed like a good dude.
Im with Dirt on MINAJ. Kind of hard to get worked up about a 4th outfielder. I fear Duggar will be hitting .180 in a couple of weeks.
Slight chance I go to game tomorrow. Im in bay area with family.
And that is pretty amazing because after his surgery a lot of folks thought that he was done. Plus, he wasn’t even on the Met’s ML roster for three or four years.
Pence gets the start in leftfield. Not a surprise. Starting the two rookies in the outfield together goes against every fiber in Bochy’s being,
Pence hit a strong dribbler to SS for an error yesterday, so he earned this start…

Uh, seems there has been chatter about his hip for some time, and I believe a Flapper even mentioned this weeks ago. If an injection doesn’t do the trick, the option is a hip replacement. I am sure this is one of the reasons for the drop in his power numbers.
Well if he has a hip replacement his career is over.
Calling Lloyds of London…
yeah, the inflamed hip was the subject of beat writer tweets weeks ago. The plan to use the break for rehab was the “secret.” Good treatment to cool such inflammation: strong injections from the MD, plenty of pelvic exercise at night, and Tower of Power’s What Is Hip on the alarm in the morning. That’ll cool things down. Maybe.
So, has Pavlovic known for a month about the planned injection and kept his mouth shut, or he was just told?…
everything I read or heard from the announcers and writers about the All Star voting assumed Buster would be at the game, either starting or backing up. Until today I never heard anyone but an intelligent fan say: why doesn’t he just take it easy.
Club the cubbies!
1. Steven Duggar (L) CF
2. Buster Posey (R) C
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
7. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
8. Hunter Pence (R) LF
9. Andrew Suarez (L) P
Pence, a start? Really???
Just normal Bochy insanity. Bring hot AAA guys up to play OF, sit ’em…
We all know it, and yes, it is frustrating as all hell, but we really should expect it. Bochy loves his vets, and usually to a fault. At least Slater, Duggar, and Hanson are getting some starts.
From KTVU:
“Former 49er receiver Dwight Clark’s ashes are buried right next to the goal post where he made the “Catch” in 1982 to send the 49ers to their first Super Bowl
The goal post is now in Montana at the ranch of former 49er owner Eddie DeBartolo.”
That is very coo! Eddie D is such a class act. As was Dwight. 87!
In Montana? Out of 50 states….Montana???
Guess it works better if it’s Joe Ashes.
Yep. Eddie D has a huge spread up there. Majestic country. He had a big gathering for Clark a while back, and flew in 20 or so former Niners. Class all the way.
They’ll call the field Joe. Dwight’s ashes are at Joe, Miontana.
What’s next? Y.A. Tittle opening a topless bar?
I can work with that Loo!
Tittys&Tittles has a great 👍 ring to it!
Remember waybackwayback’s (alleged) vintage photo of Rusty Kuntz hugging Dick Pole? Now those guys could’ve joint ventured.
Might as well put ivy on the fences and make the Cubs completely feel at home.
Well, the Padres went 16 innings in Arizona yesterday. I can’t imagine their VMI is good for their game vs. the Dodgers tonight.
that was very cool double play. Hanson’s flip to Crawford was perfectly timed.
That was really beautifully done.
Hendricks would not be a MLB pitcher without the assistance of umps.
Belt flashing that power stroke…
The “unrealized” Austin Jackson strategy needs to employed at 3rd when Longoria comes back.
I must have missed that one, James. What exactly is the strategy?
Longoria plays only against left handers and Panda against RHers. Jackson has actually been no better against lefties than righties over his career, so if that was the strategy, whoever in the front or back office dreamed it up deserves to be fired. Longoria, OTOH, has splits that favor lefties.
well Hanson fucked up that DP
Hansen is an utter disaster in the field. Routine throw, airmailed.
Hanson turned a good DP yesterday and one other tonight. But he’s an adventure . . . .
Hanson feeling a little too good about himself after the earlier DP.
That Jonathan Sanchez card looks like an R Crumb rendering of Dirty at 60 or maybe 600. Where the hell did that promo come from anyhow?
You just don’t see many hit and run plays in MLB anymore. It seemed like a good time for that with Duggar on first and Posey batting.
I avoid any Amy interview post game immediately. The other night when she was talking to Cepeda and then Cutch after he won the game and now with Duggar family…her questions are always so long and involved because she has to get her viewpoint in them. If she let all the pre conceived stuff go and just asked normal question “Hey man did that feel good to win the game like that?” it’d be fine.
But instead it’s all about her establishing the ground rules on her terms first.
LOL, Mrs. James thinks Amy goes on and on because she feels obligated to assist the subject by embedding in her tangle of words an answer to the question she’s posing.
“Tell us about how it felt to feel so happy hitting a walk off homer today.”
Did you see her interview with Pudge the other night? At one point, in response to a softball question about the Giants organization, Pudge said, out of the blue, that Buster was working really well with his son. Holy shit. What an opening. In what way? was all Amy had to blurt to get more inside catching info out of Pudge. Instead, Amy moved on to something inane.
yeah he’d probably have great insights if she just stfu. Never cared for him but it’s very cool to see him at the games. All bidness too. I’m sure he and family are very proud, rightfully so.
yaha wild man hanson slides and he’s in there.
That was awesome!!!!
wow! I guess Wild Man Hanson made up for the botched DP with that sprint! Terrific.
Hanson hustle!
Unbelievable!!
Pence with another hit; I’m telling you he’ll never leave til Murph cuts the uniform off him. It’s the old Zito conundrum all over again. He has zero trade value unless he starts to play well again…and if he plays well Giants are going to keep playing him
Truth…
Once Gorkys comes back, he’s out.
I wish, but highly doubt it. Duggar (or Slater) will catch the hellbound train to Sacto.
By out I mean back on the bench.
If Hanson can pull off some shit like that 1st to home play he just did, or the 1st to 3rd he did the other day on a routine infield ground ball, then I can live with an occasional brain fart in the field. Dude is impressive with that hustle!
Suarez is in line for the win without this particular brain fart. I like his base running, but in the long run, his D is going to hurt the team. You can’t have a sieve at one of the middle infield spots.
Pull Suarez here.
Never mind!
Nice work to get outta the jam by Suarez.
I suppose the omniscient WAR appraisals may subvert this notion, but I think we’d be well under .500 right now without Hanson and Pablo off the bench. And man are they fun to watch on the field.
As great as Hanson’s play was he didn’t really turn it all the way on until he rounded third. Luckily, Baez took his sweet fuckin’ time getting the ball back in. As far as Pence, they’re probably just hoping to nurse him along till the rosters expand in September and they won’t have to justify his wasted roster spot…
Hanson’s an impulsive kind of guy . . . every fucking second is something new
Watson, Mr. Calm.

Pence going yard in the 8th . . .
Hansen’s ‘not turning it on’ is still faster than everyone else on the team.
Home run in a silo . . .
Craw and Belt really fun to watch field their position. Hate to see either of them go. Giants will have hard time finding .900 OPS/GG fielder in same body.
Helluva lot of fun to watch. I do not think Crawford is going anywhere, and I doubt Belt is either.
That may have been Melancon’s best inning as a Giant so far.
The Stanford man outsmarted by the Dartmouth dude.
Pence and Posey may not combine for 10 homers this season…
You might be onto something. We should start a pool.
Over/Under: 11.5
I’m all over the under.
I’ll take the over.
Belt is having that career year we’ve all been hoping for. I haven’t seen every first baseman in baseball play this year, but it’s hard to imagine any better than he’s been defensively.
Nice NL baseball game tonight.
I love NL ball.
Out here on the deck, smoking a nice Cuban Partagas, with a nice glass of tawny port.
Haven’t had a cigar in maybe a year, fer Kreissakes.
Great summer evening in the East Bay, hardly any wind, no bugs.
Not bad for a Monday.
Go Giants, bring this puppy home…
What, somebody doesn’t like Partagas? Well, Montecristos are really good, but I can’t please everybody ..,
Boom! Craw flashing the cannon….
Damn! Craw is picking it tonite.
Hansen needs to get back to hitting.
Fuck yeah! Time to end this bitch…
Pence just guaranteed he is on the club rest of the season, so dig in boys…
Pence Pence Pence — triple Pence!
Oh, shit . . . . what’s that mean for Slater and Duggar?
It means one of the two head back to Sacto when Gorks is back…
Hey!
wow that’s about as far as Giants have hit a ball all night.
Bad route by the CF, but I’ll take it.
Please send me to bed…
I feel for you guys on the East Coast. You guys should get a pin similar to the Croix De Candlestick for finishing an extra inning game.
Really surprised they are pitching to D’Arnaud.
Then again
After that triple, Bobby is now drawing up an extension for Pence…
C’mon, win it for Grandma…
I prefer Tomlinson over Dunard.
Me too, Zume.
Nice of d’arnaud to do what he absolutely must not do, i.e, strike out…
Fuck….another great opportunity wasted. It’s the Giants way…
Pfffffffft
The rooks don’t see stuff like that at AAA.
The Duggar family looks like they used to do Corn Chex commercials…
I’m a big fan of all the Chex cereals.
They’re perfectly designed to handle milk…
Evidence right there of why this team is a .500 team. Dude at third w/ one down =winning run and the next two guys can’t even put the ball in play…
Nice play by Hanson…
Come on dammit, Giants! My cigar is burning down. Finish this phucker off !!!…
Hipster looked 80 years old in that last AB…
Please, don’t fuck with our heads again, Giants. Close this out, now, so Loo can get his beauty rest.
Belt !!!
What would they do without this guy?
Not well, that’s clear…
Should be in the bag.
The Giants usually dominate pitchers with crooked caps…
