A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Changes

I can’t remember a more invisible signing than Austin Jackson. And then one July afternoon he just flittered away into a warm summer breeze, never to be seen again…..

He is going to pick it up in Texas. Dude needs the American League and the Rangers will use him the way he was supposed to be used: strictly vs left handed pitching. It’ll be interesting to see if Duggar’s defense will make up for his “actionless” bat…

Kyle Hendricks is pretty lost this year, let’s crush him…..

Should have won the series against the Cards, but a split is better than a series loss. Hoping to see the bats stay alive…we need a bunch of bat porn against the cubbies and Fucking A’s.

good post. It’s not enough for me if Duggar (or Slater) are better than AJ, that’s easy to do. I want to see if they can contribute to Giants being a winning team. Duggar especially seems like classic back up QB syndrome where everyone is convinced he’s the answer. Twitter nuts who already have his HOF plaque polished blamed Bochy for making him bunt with 2 on and big boys coming up–it was good move that the kid totally f-ed up.

Gorks is having fine enough season with near .775 OPS and 11 bombs. Neither of these 2 will get near the bombs so I want to see them at least get on base and get the OPS to .750 range.

Seeing Andres just makes me wonder more how long Gorks can sustain his decent run. Torres was very cool player until it all slid rapidly downhill.

Was thinking yesterday must have been great game to see–glad Xoot got to be there and enjoy!

Even giving Black a pass for being amped in his first appearance, the guy looks like Musclehead II. Hopefully he can settle the control. Fastball looked very straight. With Duggar and Slater up, giants likely not doing any more in OF. Time for them to show up and do some work. Pence is hired in apparently as counselor and sometime PHer at $3 million per month for the duration barring injuries or caffeine addiction treatment…

The giants kid Bahr is a decent prospect a year into development. Tex may be able to use Gearrin, and Actionless may feel more at home back in the AL, or they flip him. TX has a lot of money, at worst they’re buying a young pitcher prospect. Not a bad deal on their side. For Giants, they draft so many pitchers they can afford to piss one away to get rid of dumpster dive dudes with Aisle 2 salaries as the team approaches the wrong end of the Neutral Zone before the lux tax barrier…

Yet, very “green” in using solar power.
They also got their milk in glass bottles that were used over and over.
When I was a kid in the 1960s, my grandmother was still getting her milk delivered in glass bottles from a milkman.
The house I grew up in had a clothesline in the backyard.

We hang some clothes in our backyard these days, but in a more improvised way, without a clothesline.

My great-grandmother had a dairy, and my grandpa milked the cows in the morning before he went to work at a zinc plant. We got our milk in one gallon glass jars with the Kerr-type screw-on lids. There was always about 3 inches of cream on the top. We typically just shook the jar to mix the cream with the milk. I don’t even drink dairy/cow milk anymore. We also for a period had the milkman delivering our milk in, yes, glass jars. Sad we have become such a “disposable/throw-away society.”

We have a clothes line we use that is on a reel…goes betwen a tree and our house. We use it regularly in the summer to save on electricity and to alleviate the heat the dryer generate. Clean and green baby.

blurb from the Athletic on what Giants gave up in Bahr:
Bahr, a fifth-round pick in 2017, was one of the Giants’ biggest breakout prospects this season. The Central Florida alum had a 2.75 ERA and an 88:21 K:BB in 68 2/3 innings with Low-A Augusta before earning a promotion to High-A San Jose. In his first three starts in the California League, Bahr allowed three runs in 16 innings (1.69 ERA) and posted a 15:3 K:BB.

While the Giants have every reason to point their assets towards getting the big league club to the postseason, they are losing a significant part of their starting pitching depth with this trade. Bahr didn’t yet have the national prospect profile of a Shaun Anderson or Tyler Beede, but scouts have raved about the life on his fastball, which sits at 91-94 mph and can touch 96. His slider and changeup have taken significant steps forward this year, as well.

At 6-foot-6, Bahr has the frame to handle a heavy starter’s workload and he gets enough extension and deception on his delivery to make his fastball appear harder than it is coming out of his hand. He is likely to start next season in Double-A and could reach the big leagues by the end of the 2019 campaign. Starting pitching wasn’t an area of depth for the Giants before the draft in June, but they loaded up on college pitchers in the top-10 rounds, which likely made it easier for the Giants front office to part with Bahr.

And the Giants hitting on Rodriguez was a big boost. Suarez, also.
Cueto and Smarj are locked in because of contracts.
Bum is actually the wild card going forward, regarding his next contract.

    • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on July 9, 2018 at 10:58 am

Sounds like we gave up a solid prospect, but I am OK if that is what it took to move Actionless and Gearrin.

“Sad we have become such a “disposable/throw-away society.””

On The Andy Griffith Show, Emmitt makes a living with his “fix-it shop.” Younger generations are probably perplexed by it, if they watch the show. They see Enmitt repairing a toaster, and they think: “Why bother repairing a toaster? Just throw it away and buy a new one, because they’re so low-priced nowadays.”
And so we have an economy now built on gigantic amounts of throw-away stuff, and massive landfills of garbage. As if that’s sustainable.
    (Spoiler alert: it’s not.)

Rude welcome to The Show for Black. Hopefully he shows some ability to locate in the near future. Duggar’s calling cards are speed and defense but is he significantly better than Hernandez? Hopefully he’s not the next Darren Ford.

Recent bay area talk radio chatter indicates the Posey to 1b move is happening soon, maybe even next year. That means Belt to LF which is a mistake imo as Posey contributes next to nothing in power numbers. I guess it would solve the OF for the most part. Adding Harper would be pretty epic but hard to see it happening.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 9, 2018 at 12:04 pm

Carpenter came up looking for 100 mph heat and Black stupidly delivered it. The OFs didn’t move an inch. They just watched that bomb sail high over the RF wall. Very Stricknine like moment

      • dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo said, on July 9, 2018 at 12:10 pm

Yeah, Carpenter got all of that one. It seemed inevitable after Black struggled against the previous 3 batters. Still, Black got his feet wet and hopefully he’s less amped up next time out.

I don’t love the trade. i had a soft spot for Gearrin. Pitched well last year and seemed like a good dude.
Im with Dirt on MINAJ. Kind of hard to get worked up about a 4th outfielder. I fear Duggar will be hitting .180 in a couple of weeks.

Uh, seems there has been chatter about his hip for some time, and I believe a Flapper even mentioned this weeks ago. If an injection doesn’t do the trick, the option is a hip replacement. I am sure this is one of the reasons for the drop in his power numbers.

yeah, the inflamed hip was the subject of beat writer tweets weeks ago. The plan to use the break for rehab was the “secret.” Good treatment to cool such inflammation: strong injections from the MD, plenty of pelvic exercise at night, and Tower of Power’s What Is Hip on the alarm in the morning. That’ll cool things down. Maybe.

      • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2018 at 7:51 pm

Longoria plays only against left handers and Panda against RHers. Jackson has actually been no better against lefties than righties over his career, so if that was the strategy, whoever in the front or back office dreamed it up deserves to be fired. Longoria, OTOH, has splits that favor lefties.

I avoid any Amy interview post game immediately. The other night when she was talking to Cepeda and then Cutch after he won the game and now with Duggar family…her questions are always so long and involved because she has to get her viewpoint in them. If she let all the pre conceived stuff go and just asked normal question “Hey man did that feel good to win the game like that?” it’d be fine.

But instead it’s all about her establishing the ground rules on her terms first.

    • James's avatar James said, on July 9, 2018 at 8:29 pm

I feel for you guys on the East Coast. You guys should get a pin similar to the Croix De Candlestick for finishing an extra inning game.
