Memorial Day
Only 11 games today? How can it be Memorial Day and some teams aren’t playing? That’s a pretty big swing and a miss by MLB.
It’s 2023 and Rich Freaking Hill is starting today. How is that possible? He’s gotta be closing in on 50.
Back at home, we should make short work of the Pirates who I never thought were really any good this year despite their fast start.
Just looked it up. He’s 43. He’s played for 12 teams. TWELVE!!!!!!
In the tradition of crafty lefthanders, like Jim Kaat, who pitch a long time in MLB.
Jeff Fassero?
bobby Shantz?
Pirates were 20-8 at one time, now back at .500 26-26. Giants killing NL Central so far 8-3.
Santa Anita live today. Cute Andie B. had winner in 10th yesterday, horse ridden to victory by 57 yr old Mike Smith.
Weird starting time, 2 PM. ?
Would never have guessed Shantz was AL MVP in 1952.
And I do mean never…
CC Sabathia? Giants coming home usually results in a low scoring effort from the offense. DeScaffolding had a rough go last time didn’t he? No Crawfish today I’d think.
Expected LU with Disco on the bump..
1B Flores
DH Sabol
3B Davis
LF Haniger
RF Conforto
2B Schmitt
C Bailey
SS Crawford
CF Johnson
Jesse Orosco pitched until he was 46. For a while there, it seemed he was only used to get Barry out.
Chuck McElroy was another guy they would bring in to face BB a lot…
Pitcher Jamie Moyer pitched 25 seasons and became the oldest pitcher at 49 to win a game.
Real nice career winning 269 games, the dude was very durable and should be considered for the HOF but probably won’t happen sadly..
The HOF needs a few different wings.
A geezer wing for guys like Moyer, Orosco, TJ, Kaat
A steroid wing
A we really don’t belong here wing
I still like the idea of voting guys out as well as in…
i love that idea
Me too.
lulz. An official “Hall of the Very Good” would be great draw. Can think of number of guys I liked that fit.
Will Clark, Kevin Mitchell, Dale Murphy . . .
I’m with ya on that, Loo. And, if ya can’t vote a guy out, maybe some of them are on a rotation like a museum does with their art pieces.

Flavien Prat and Luis Saez at Santa Anita for big stakes races today.
Didn’t see it yesterday but radio guy with FP–Rizzo?–said Craw had double and nice play in the field. Meanwhile Villar with another 0 fer. Has to show he can add something to lineup or it’s summer in Sac.
There was nice shot of dugout with Craw on railing right next to Kap during one of road games.
Wasn’t Don McMahon in his 50s coming out of the pen for the Giants? Or am I misremembering that?
That’s the most entertaining three pitch top of the first I’ve seen in a while.
Nice hitting by rooks there.
Unc McMahon was 44 in last year with Giants good catch. Remember him with first team, Braves
RHP reliever.
Yeah, I remember him coming out of the bullpen as a kid. Don’t know why I thought he was over 50.
Austin power!
Slater doing a nice Fred Lewis there, getting to a ball most LFers wouldn’t reach and then ….
Fred would have stopped calling for it as soon as he heard the shortstop was on it. Lack of confidence in the face of superior ability can have its benefits.
Wade will get credited with a hit there. Poor Wilmet in another slump, 1-17. He Villar and Bryce J all without a hit, rest of Giants now have 11 of them.
12 with rbi from Haniger.
Schmitt 2-run hit vs. Pitt!
Bombin’ Bailey!
wow Bailey crushed that.
Well they keep telling us Baileys better LH.
Great game so far, although the broadcast has been a little glitchy with technical issues, on my TV.
Somehow I have the Spanish language broadcast now.
Good thing they’re up 11, not a bright move there by Hallberg.
Hallberg fucked up big time. LL Coaches do that with eight year olds.
I always forget how scrappy Slater can be. He looked like he wanted to fight instead of get back on the base.
Lost the video and didn’t see runs 12 and 13 and now I’m getting the Spanish feed.
Como el Zumi
Victory!
I wonder if the Giants are a good team…
Sarah and David may have been right…
Cobb was quoted as saying April and travel schedule was really tough, and it ended with Mexico trip. At one point they lost 7 of 8 and were 6-13. I think this colored a lot of negativity from section of fanbase that was predisposed to it anyway–knocking Z and Kap, FA fails yada yada.
May obviously different story, for hitting and pitching, including pen and young guys making good things happen. Cobb said they’ve all been productive.
The facebook crowd is beside itself in finding reasons to hate Kapler and/or Zaidi.
I can’t believe I stopped watching it in the 6th but wow what a display of hitting. Just incredible.
Glad I was right in calling for SF to be + .500 by the end of May:) Wild card team now!
Call ups have definitely added some shock therapy to the squad. New blood isn’t always the answer, but this group of it looks like it is. Schmitt looks like a legit Rookie of the Year candidate…
Schmitt and Bailey have definitely brought some serious numbers and missing joy to this season. But Mitch Haniger was not going to finish the season with a 500 OPS no matter who else was in the clubhouse.
The Giants are currently tied for 5th seed in the NL. It’s fun being in that conversation again.
This shit’s pretty funny. And Chili Dog will always be one of my favorite Giants . . .

It’s a great story, but do you think the interviewer is laughing just a little too hard?
Yeah, but that don’t change the story!
