Not much to say but watching ABs from this team more fun than the Old team from last year even in a 2-1 loss. Watched with my daughter. Predicting a Craw K isn’t hard:(
Well we all were talking about Bob Myers stepping down for a few weeks and now that that has happened, there was some chatter about Kerr then moving up to the front office and Atkinson taking over. I can see this happening. Myers obviously looking for something new but also gets to get out of town while a luxury tax explosion is about to take place and hard decisions have to made about Dray and Klay and if you are Myers, why deal with those major headaches????
One thing for sure, I will be apoplectic if there is any effort to trade for Lebum and give up Poole and Kuminga. Will be bitter but would be better with a $200 mill plus payroll to have Dray opt out and can live him signing a deal with the Fakers. Also may be sacrilegious to consider trading Klay, but if you could get your hands on Jaylen Brown and if it took trading Klay and Kuminga and a couple of #1s, who here would say no? Wouldn’t Klay be a good fit with there with Tatum? That deal would save $20 mill and Dray opting out is another $27 mil saved. If you have Dray opting out, adding Horford to that deal (only going to make $10 mill next year) would make sense. That would legitimately get to a more manageable level with luxury tax. Some hard decisions to make, but may be what is needed.
Nope. No one on the team is that retarded. Like all the chatter around Trey Lance a month ago being on the outs with the 49ers, and the sudden miraculous second coming of Patrick Mahomes now, it’s all unsubstantiated bullshit propagated by click hungry writers.
Oh it’s all about “trust the process.” Coach Bailey said this number of times in last interview I saw in Chron. Given success of pen last month, phrase not going away.
With Manaea warming up anyway, bringing him in to face LH, even with 2 outs and bases empty in the first, presented favorable matchup.
Better luck to Giants hitters with James in yard today. Supposed to be low 60s without too much wind.
mm yes though last outing wasn’t great, as he continues to walk a lot of guys though still Ks a lot and isn’t being hit hard in very hitter friendly Coast League (Triple AAA West). For season I think he still has more walks than innings pitched.
Harrison only lasted 3.2 Sunday vs. OKC Dogs, throwing 74 pitches walking 3 with 5 Ks 0 runs.
For season, 11 starts 34 innings. ERA 3.67 WHIP 1.43. Walked 31 with 61 Ks. League only hitting .151 against him.
Harrison was part of that great 2020 draft, but he’s only 21. Schmitt and Bailey,, both 24 iirc, were drafted out of college. Harrison played at local de la salle, maybe more famous for its football program. He doesn’t look like a fifth starter yet. But then no one else does, either.
GH my 2 cents: I think Kerr sticks around long enough to coach Steph to the end. Would be surprised Draymond or Klay bail of their own accord on Steph either. I think Klay would be easiest to replace internally; FO could offer extensions to both of them for limited amount of years at much reduced salary, and it would be up to them to buy in or not.
I think any decision on Poole is year away. It’s really hard right now to get value back for him and they are also restricted in trading away future #1 picks. filling out roster Dunleavy Jr.’s task, adding pieces to Big 3 Looney Wiggins and Poole Kuminga Payton Moody, upcoming draft pick #19 and rooks from this past year (PBJ etc.) and managing how much Lacob wants to pay in lux tax. Probably have to try and find whatever bargains they can, as in low cost role guys like Lamb JMG and Jerome were this year.
Read this morning that one sports writer thinks Myers may go after the Knicks GM job and that Draymond just might follow. But that was all a guess and not even a rumor yet.
If Myers thinks working for Lacob was rough, how would Myers deal with the ding dong Knicks owner? Myers is a California guy, a NY gig seems really out of character…
RE: Paul’s post at the end of yesterday’s thread, I always figured the purpose of the opener was to screw up the opposing manager’s ability to make his starting line up and to give his own rotation an extra day.
I could be wrong…
Or ideally you’re playing match ups against the best part of the line up with a hard to hit bullpen guy you’d otherwise use in a high leverage late inning situation. Unlike the later innings, in the first, you’re more or less assured of facing the better hitters on the other team.
Yeah, Myers is gonna pull a Bochy and take a couple years off. Shit, he’s 48. Better at that age than 68. Who knows? Maybe he’ll enjoy it and stay retired. He’s got young kids to play with.
Bochy used to tell hitters to be ready if they weren’t starting vs. opener, because other manager would eventually bring in different handed pitchers. Brebbia gave up bomb to RH Connor Joe in first. Manaea did OK til Haniger error allowed runners to advance. Only run allowed unearned. And Kap wound up using Alexander and Taylor Rogers plus Manaea, his LHPs, to good effect.
When Bart comes off the IL, I think he’s going to Sac, and if he does, he might never return to SF.
Too many other bodies vying for a place on the 26 to keep Bart up right now. Maybe his hitting woes related to the groin problem, but who knows? He’s officially a streaky hitter in my book.
They have to keep Sabol up per rule 5 rules, he’s an intriguing kid who can hit with some pop, and is somewhat familiar with the catching position…
Braves have scored 3 runs in 2 days vs. A’s, and dropped both games. ?
This from team that is 2nd NL for runs and HRs, and leads league in slugging and OPS.
“I just know Wood isn’t going to get out of the first without giving up a run.
Maybe we should just arrive in the 2nd.
I can visualize McCutcheon’s bomb settling in the LF bleachers.
I like McCutcheon.
I don’t give a fuck about who you like.”
A minor league team the Portland Pickles ( lol yes that’s the teams name in a west coast league, I love minor leagues team names)is out drawing the Oakland A’s in attendance! Yeah that’s what happens when you have a cheap ass owner /cheap ass payroll and a pathetic record 11-45?
Wood is getting hammered , and the defense is taking the dayoff with just stupid fundamental stuff.Sabol’s throw to the plate was terrible and Wood not backing up the play let 2 more runners to advance!!
Reminds me of last year. They don’t have the roster to execute. Schmitt playing in decided not to go home and threw a good feed to Wisely instead. But Wisely’s talent’s not at Schmitt’s level. He botched his throw to first. No DP. Run scores. Would Thairo have turned it? Better bet.
Running up the first baseline, McCutchen slapped his hands together in delight after his grounder against Tyler Rogers got through. You know these guys just want to crush the ball against him. Best small moment of the day.
I pre-consoled myself by buying a clearance sale BB9 jersey before we got to our seats. I don’t usually do Giants gear – what’s the point, if you aren’t rocking something as hip as SanDawg’s Haad threads – but the price was right and I thought it was finally time to honor the big doofus.
Dubs will pull a Giants move and keep the band together. Extend Klay for less $$. 3 years. he had a good season and improved most of the year except for playoffs.
For my $$ they would be foolish to trade Kuminga. Play him, Moody, PBJ more. Trade Poole for an over paid vet with a year left on his deal. We get less, but win by subtraction. Play the kids with the core and improve. Book it

““opening” with Brebbia for 2/3rds of the 1st inning before bringing in Manaea”
After Connor Joe hit his HR, Brebbia was taken out. I wonder if Brebbia’s pitch count was getting high.
I can’t remember.
Oh it’s all about “trust the process.” Coach Bailey said this number of times in last interview I saw in Chron. Given success of pen last month, phrase not going away.

Our 12-game losing streak is on the line today.
With an opener, Kapler doesn’t have to listen to the starter whine about being taken out with fewer than 5 IP.
Harrison is doing well at AAA. Seems like we should see him with the big league team eventually this season.
mm yes though last outing wasn’t great, as he continues to walk a lot of guys though still Ks a lot and isn’t being hit hard in very hitter friendly Coast League (Triple AAA West). For season I think he still has more walks than innings pitched.
Yeah, he’ll need to clean that up.

I was so far under the overhang yesterday, I only made it into the 3rd inning.
Get em in the matinee today.

Have a great time today, James!
Thanks! As long as Kapler doesn’t rest both Schmitt and Bailey, I’ll at least get some satisfaction.
Ha, just saw the posted line up- excellent!
Yeah, Myers is gonna pull a Bochy and take a couple years off. Shit, he’s 48. Better at that age than 68. Who knows? Maybe he’ll enjoy it and stay retired. He’s got young kids to play with.
Pirate starter Keller is an innings eater by today’s standards…
First time I heard that was for Brett Tomko.
😂 I think for me it was Kevin Appier…
Thanks, I had forgotten about Tomko, but now he’s back in my head for a minute…
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
4. Wilmer Flores (R) DH
5. Blake Sabol (L) LF
6. Mitch Haniger (R) RF
7. Patrick Bailey (S) C
8. Casey Schmitt (R) SS
9. Brett Wisely (L) 2B
P: Alex Wood (L)
Bailey catching a day game after a night game.
The world is ending….
Kappler just wants to keep the catcher’s interference at a max of 1 per series…

Looks like Conforto may be one of our Achilles heels.
OF course a snodfart grad like Slusser would never utter such a solecism.
Yeah, getting MRI…
yikes. “to undergo an MRI and x ray on injured left heel” per Rotowire and Pavs.
Braves have scored 3 runs in 2 days vs. A’s, and dropped both games. ?
This from team that is 2nd NL for runs and HRs, and leads league in slugging and OPS.
I’ve been dreading playing the A’s. Maybe Atlanta is standing in for the Giants.
“I just know Wood isn’t going to get out of the first without giving up a run.
Maybe we should just arrive in the 2nd.
I can visualize McCutcheon’s bomb settling in the LF bleachers.
I like McCutcheon.

Didn’t know you liked McC.
That’s Mrs. James, not an internal dialog. Misspellings and poor punctuation.…
well, yeah, I figured, but . . . .

Well the vegAs announcement sorta plays in too
lAs vegAs : Oklnd
Why does the camera show four or five shots of Schmitt in pain after diving for that grounder before k n k say a word about it?
Exactly. Then Kruk just dismissed it.
They were probably still thinking about having a kegger in the booth.
Bad Wood.
Rough inning for Sabol.
Schmitt did get up slowly after diving for that hit.
Wood is getting hammered , and the defense is taking the dayoff with just stupid fundamental stuff.Sabol’s throw to the plate was terrible and Wood not backing up the play let 2 more runners to advance!!
I was surprised by how bad Sabol’s throw was. Has he never practiced that play?
Wade crushed one, but otherwise Giants ain’t exactly stinging ball of the kid. Yaz whiffed on high fastball yuck.
Yeah, back to the stupid-ball that got us 8 games under in the first place. Wasting runner and swinging at garbage.
I haven’t seen Yaz do anything lately. Well, he did have that 3 hit game, but nothing before or after.
Rotten Wood.
Everyone that used to be on the Giants is killing us. Joe, Cutch, and Reynolds.
All those good feelings are slipping away.
.500 is again within reach
Fuck. Weak-ass grounders all day with risp.
Dead Wood.
Damm Kapler why is Wood still in this game?!
A cheapie! Come on, guys. Get back in this shit!
Wow. Ooooops. and there you go. Get one, give up 2.
It’s just going to be James day.Bet he’s seething how bad their playing today.,
Reminds me of last year. They don’t have the roster to execute. Schmitt playing in decided not to go home and threw a good feed to Wisely instead. But Wisely’s talent’s not at Schmitt’s level. He botched his throw to first. No DP. Run scores. Would Thairo have turned it? Better bet.
Just missed. Pirates mgr. almost left kid in too long as Giants have begun to unload on him.
a bright spot.
The rookies are collectively cooling down.
Running up the first baseline, McCutchen slapped his hands together in delight after his grounder against Tyler Rogers got through. You know these guys just want to crush the ball against him. Best small moment of the day.

Syndergaard got lit up again, and the Dodgers lost.
No clutch hitting today. 12 hits 4 runs. Likely would have lost anyway with our D

Conforto’s MRI came back clean.
He’s day-to-day…
Fun fact I read yesterday:
As player, coach, and team executive combined, Pat Riley has been involved in 25% of all NBA finals.
