Cubs Don’t Win
Well that was one way to shake out of a funk. And Kudos to Crawford who actually looked like a pitcher out there. I’m so tired of the guys who want a pitching line who go out there throwing lolly pops.
Off the St. Louis. What kind of homestand was that?
Cards have dropped 7 of last 9 including 2 of 3 at home to Reds during Elly de la Cruz show, to fall into last place in NL Central at 27-39. 27 is one more W than Nats and same as Rox. ouch
Offense about even with SF and they have hit 90 bombs (3rd NL), 6 more than Giants.
Pitching staff not so good, 9th in NL ERA. starter tonight for them is M Liberatore, LHP.
I watched a couple of this Nate Jones at bats against us in Colorado and he absolutely crushed a walk off yday a walk off against the Padres, he looks like a potential superstar in the making. We need one of those in our system…
sorry Nolan Jones…
The battle cry should be “Let’s do it every other day!”
If you look at the box scores, for most of season the pattern has been one of modest winning streaks and losing streaks, not win one, lose one.
Winning streaks
1 Five game
2 Four game
3 Three game
Losing streaks
1 Five game
1 Four game
1 Three game
4 Two game
They started the season with 7 alternating win loss games, but have not really followed that pattern since.
blowout W yesterday leaves Giants 5-4 for June and plus number in run differential.
Thrashing Rox got them up to .500 on road. Better comp coming up soon.
3 at reeling STL (whom giants beat earlier at home) 3 at now 2nd place LA.
4 at home with SD 3 with AZ (who thrashed Giants earlier in AZ).
How far above .500 will they still be by first weekend July?
That’s excellent.
Probably temporary bullpen reinforcement after Beck threw all those pitches. Plus, they get to have a look at him.
Too late for a Buster Keaton battery…
My kids didn’t think Buster Keaton was funny. I was never so disappointed in them.
Looking over the last seven years, the lowest winning percentage of any NL team that finished in the top 5 in both team ERA and OPS is the 2019 Chicago Cubs. And the 2019 Cubs are an outlier. They won 84 games, but predictably, the run differential projected a 90 win season. They were just unlucky.
Unless they are freakishly unlucky or the defense starts pissing away unearned runs at an even greater clip, the Giants will have to hit and pitch a lot worse than they have until now to finish the season at 500.
Crawford always was bugging Kapler the last few years to pitch and he finally caved in, I was stoked as I’m sure Craw was to get the call in the blowout it’s a great tribute for him and something he will always appreciate! He can now say with over 1,600 games at SS he has pitched on his resume unlike Jeter,Smith,Apariçõ and others..
The Giants now have 2 Crawford’s in the organization that can pitch and hit with Brandon &Reggie( the new version of Ohtani hopefully)
Calling a 💣 for Mr. Ed tonight…
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
4. J.D. Davis (R) DH
5. Mitch Haniger (R) LF
6. Michael Conforto (L) RF
7. Casey Schmitt (R) 3B
8. Patrick Bailey (S) C
9. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
P: Logan Webb (R)
Wade Jr got hit off LHP last week…I think Wilmet’s days as Giant are numbered. Great guy just hope he can get bat going.
Yeah Wilmer’s limbo status sort of annoys me. He’s a good player and as you say a great guy (tho I dislike that high volume walk up tune). I’m pleased the team’s letting the Stripper burn money for nothing; not so with Flores. Why not more consistent RH DH? JD’ll get his innings at 3B.
One factor: they haven’t faced a lot of LHers.
Yeah. Wilmer has 12 DH games, JD 7 before tonight.
Just missed 2 yesterday.
they didn’t get into St. Louis till 330am because of some traveling snafu. Hope that doesn’t bother them today.
Since 1970, after expansion to 24 teams, there has been just 1 team that has finished in the upper third of its league in team OPS and ERA and failed to be over 500. The 1984 Houston Astros finished 80-82. They scored 693 Runs, allowed 630. That is really hard to do, but I’m sure our Giants are up to the challenge.
The previously mentioned 2019 Cubs have the second worst record at 84-78, BTW.
If something goes wrong this month and Giants are little worse than May’s 17-12/more like .500 team or slightly worse, what do you think it would be?
If I’m following you, it’s likely they’ll suffer worse hitting and/or pitching, like they did in April. The Giants were not near the top of the league in ERA or OPS at the end of that month. Presumably, a crappy June would put a dent in their season numbers, too, and they’d start to look more like those of a 500 team.
3 previous outings for Liberatore he’s given up 10 runs and 13 hits in 10 innings.
Mr. Ed now a sorry 6 for 42 (0/10/.143) with RISP this season…
What a throw by Bailey to nail the runner. Smacked him on the nail of the hand reaching for the bag. Man
Ah, Wilmer.
I’m calling a Haniger HR still tonight if anyone is due it’s him..
Damn! Though loo had one called
Fuck!
That’s 3 near misses in two games.
What an incredibly stupid ass AB by Haniger, with Conforto on deck.
Less then a foot for a Mr.Ed HR that’s a pisser Loo!
You mean a hoof!
Lulz 😂 🐴 Hoof is right on!
Well let’s fuck on Webb more he’s a gopher ball machine this year!
Fuck, Webb, what a fucking waste. Fuck.
Payback for that first inning, misplaced slider.
They just don’t fuckin learn.
It’s truly amazing…
The 0-2 bomb to DeJong was a totally unforgivable HR.
This motherfucker’s been tormenting us since the Monroe Doctrine…
What a shocker, a Goldy HR vs. SF.
Giants had runners on vs. Liberatore with his 6 something ERA coming in and only score 2.
Sunday was fun sure, but before that they scored 2 runs in 2 games vs. Cubs. Not gonna work.
“Echando Pa’Lante” 1964 LP for great NYC pianist Eddie Palmieri, still alive at age 86. One of his best early hits on it, “Cafe.”
That’s a great tune. Have it on a best of.
Won’t you come home, Bill Bailey?
Yes, he will. 🙂
I think Bill Bailey is Axl Rose’s real name…
oh snap. now I gotta look that up.
From Quora:
His birth name was William Bruce Rose, Jr.
That’s not the name he grew up with, though. His parents split up and his mother remarried when Axl was about two, and they changed his name to William Bruce Bailey. He didn’t even know Mr. Bailey wasn’t his real father until he was about 17.
That’s right… they hung “Bill Bailey” on this poor kid.
No wonder he changed his name.
Schmitt could learn from Bailey.
There you go!! Crawfish with signs of life!
Yeah Craw!
Great AB’s by Bailey &Craw to take the lead 4-3
wow great ABs there, starting with Bailey.
Hmmmmm . . .
Birth name: William Bruce Rose Jr.
Also known as: W. Axl Rose, William Bruce Bailey
Hoooooooooo. Wilmer with a bit of a risky play.
Doval time?
Shit. Getting Arenado was pretty big.
Oh fuck
Just what we needed.
What a weird AB. WTF Doval???
Holy fuck. And it’s Goldie.
Chalk up the L.
kinda makes sense with 1st open
Getting to Goldie?
Yeah Doval can be wild as fuck.
Nice.
“never in doubt” lol from Estes. Man last guy you wanted to see and Doval gets comebacker.
And on the first pitch.
Yes!!! Victory in St. Lou!
Ho fucking boy. Super torture Wilsonesque freakfest. What the actual fuck!
Never a doubt again for Doval he always likes to make it exciting, but he seems to just get bored till he has to finish it off.Victory GM 1 always sweet on the road!!
Congrats to the Nuggets, beat the Heat for 1st title.
Bochy Rangers about to lose in the 12th inning. They went scoreless in the bottom of the 10th and 11th. Didn’t bunt in either inning. Just sayin.’
Actor Treat Williams (age 71) was killed today in a motorcycle accident.
He starred in a fantastic movie that nobody seems to know – Prince Of The City…
Liked that film. First I saw him was in Hair, I think. Thought he was going to be a big star. He did some interesting things.
Nice way to go I suppose. Vaguely remember that movie. Don’t think I saw it tho.
Saw it when it came out, too. One of those Lumet films it’s cool to like.
And that’s pretty old to die in a motorcycle accident.
The Eagle Has Landed he was good in. Loved all them Jack Higgins books back then.
Stanford Cardinal won in 9th 7-6 over Texas last night to get to WS finals.
Game before their SP threw 156 pitches.
