Yaz
My buddy Chris had a pedicure done yesterday. Got his toes painted. Said he did it to support the team. Anyway it was a source of contention between us most of the day as I feel that painting toes should be something the ladies do. But I must say, this video is pretty fantastic.
***update*** of course i can’t get the video to load. I’ll work on it later today. It’s epic.

here’s the video in all it’s glory.
Not sure I want to see the dancing toes dont like feet), but does Chris a bit of a lean on his tv??? What a phenomenal comeback again. Are they using up too many of their nine lives to early in the season???
Just like basketball, any comeback has to start with getting stops. Winn had 5 fantastic innings after Soto bomb, and Doval won epic battle with Machado as he chased ball 4 or 5.
Gad those first 2 guys Melvin tried to use in 9th couldn’t or wouldn’t throw strikes and Giants smart enough to lay off them. Yaz drops a 3 into the water and raises OPS over .800. Great AB from Bailey to get ball deep enough for sac fly.
Winn reminds me of Mike LaCoss, except with much better stuff.
And Doval reminds me of Felix for no particular reason…
ok, it took a little work but here is the video of Chris’ toes celebrating that walk off bomb. I now grudingly accept the paint and must now even consider it for myself. Gotta support the team and all.
even more disturbing in video form…
Things change in society. I remember when the manliest of men starting wearing one earring, and then two earrings, and then more than two earrings.
And lots of guys wear pink shirts now and pink ties.
It’s all incredibly arbitrary. So many older people freaked out about the Beatles’ hair in the early 1960s, and then men’s hair kept getting longer and longer as the ‘60s rolled on.
The “outlaw” country music performers, like Waylon Jennings, brought long hair to the most conservative of men.
And now men do all kinds of color tinting to their hair. Men hairstyling is big business.
Men shaving body hair became an accepted thing at some point.
In the U.S. some people freak out when they see a French woman in a movie with hairy underarms.
I paint some of my toenails everyday with ciclopirox. I won’t be posting any pictures.
Damn…who are those guys (thanks Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). This team just keeps saying Never Say Die. Contributions up and down the line-up and the bullpen remains stellar.
Will be interesting to see if they can sustain some semblance of this over the long haul. Until then…I am really loving how this team is playing ball.
Agree, the team as a whole has been totally amazing.
Neighbor of mine, gay hairdresser, wears sandals to display his elaborately painted toenails. They look good but I can’t imagine sitting still for that shit. I guess he’s used to the what’s it called salon milieu. We got to know each other during the pre-vax pandemic time when he gave haircuts outside on his driveway. Good guy.
Seeing nose rings on a woman still trip me out.I just have the urge of grabbing their nostril ring and going for a walk with them..
Hairy pits ARE NOT SEXY at all on women and the days when you see the Olympic swimmers from Germany,Bulgaria, all other foreign countries we’re GROSS to watch on tv.
kat, you would have made a terrible hippie.
LMAO…
My wife and I finally broke the fantastically improbable losing streak last night. Enduring it was almost worth it for that ending. A few other things that stood out:
*Matos pumping his fist after Yaz made it to third on the flyball to CF. Another game without whiffing, even though he popped up ball four on a 3-2.
*The Giants only struck out 4 times. I know, they were facing another gimp armed dude who used to throw 97, but still.
*Bailey throwing out yet another runner with an absolutely perfect throw, which was overshadowed by the Soto bomb. The feeling that something good was going to happen with Yaz at 3rd.
*Sabol with the walk and perfect sacrifice.
*The crazy number of moves Kapler made on the IF.
*David Villar is a pretty good number 3 option at 3rd base
*When two players each hit two bombs in a game, it’s not because the pitcher(s) have made 4 mistakes.
*The Giants just need to win to draw good crowds again. The San Francisco needs a superstar mantra that Baggarly started was and is bullshit. Craw still got louder cheers than any of the rookies during the intros.
Ah cool. Yard looked pretty full too. Bailey gunning down Tatis Jr was great and good to see Villar bomb. Also that Davis could handle playing 3b again. Play well and crowds will show up, without judge or Othtani et al.
Saw something interesting in Athletic about player comments on pitch clock and other new rules. suggestion was made to extend it 5 seconds for postseason (length of games less of an issue), or just for late innings.
Also one blogger suggested each team should get 1 warning before violation penalty assessed.
Setting the clock at 20 for the ninth and after (tho the free runner sets it automatically, so) was my immediate reaction early this year. The small extension would only increase drama and quality of play in close games.
Doval’s first pitch to Machado was a perfect corner strike called a ball. Wonder how the AB would’ve gone if it’d been called properly.
From Brisbee today:
“It’s a similar vibe to what the Giants enjoyed in 2021 . . . .In 2021, there was an understanding that a team built on discipline, power and run prevention could never really be out of a game. In 2023, you’re getting used to the idea again.”
Despite the undeniable contributions from the rooks, there’s also a continuity at play here.
7 rookies on the roster right now. This could end with numerous possible outcomes.
That Doval/Machado battle was a classic. As someone mentioned on the postgame show (Kontos maybe), Doval didn’t have his best slider last night, and was having to throw a lot of fastballs. Fortunately he can throw 101, and Machado wasn’t able to square it up. Strike 3 was a slider that looked enough like an approaching fastball to finally get Machado.
Great game report, James!
This line made me chuckle: “ Enduring it was almost worth it for that ending.”
Are you talking about the cold weather?
Though often not quite as cold as Candlestick, Oracle Park can have some Candlestickian nights, for sure. One night when I was there, I saw a woman climb into a sleeping bag and sit in an entire sleeping bag to get warmer. That’s preparation! 🙂
I was at the game that sabol Hit the walk off with 2 outs in 9th. It was cold as fuck.
Ha, no, I meant the two us watching the Giants lose one game after another whenever we were in attendance together. Last night, I did have to put on the final layer, but previously this year it’s been pretty temperate at night.
A real game report would have focused on the . . . quasi homeless looking hippie sitting next to me, who provided a game long running commentary filled with every received bit of wisdom he’d read or heard concerning the 2023 Giants. “Sanchez, we got rid of him because he can’t catch etc.” I didn’t mention that Sanchez actually made several nice stops on balls in the dirt, but did high five him after Yaz’s bomb. It was that kinda feel good night.
Did any of you see who ended up with the ball on Yaz’s walkoff splash hit?
It was a Seal 🦭 with a net in his mouth!! It was awesome watching the Seal..Seal the deal!!🦭🤣⚾️
Weather and difficulty hitting home runs are the biggest deterrents to getting power guys here irregardless of all the other bullshit about taxes and progressiveness.
90% of the night games are cold as fuck.
Lost in excitement of 9th was Schmitt getting his second walk of the season. Must have convinced Melvin to replace rrook reliever Carlton.
My feet can’t fail me now, my feet can’t fail me now.
Did he shave his feet as well?
I just looked to see if I have hair on my feet.
Lol! I’m not a particularly hirsute guy, but my toes and feet have some hair on them.
I think I’ve already divulged too much about my feet today.
I mean, Christ, my feet look like they’ve been shoved through a wood chipper compared to those ones.

They Mighty Be Giants
by Paul Kocak
Who did they think they were
Traipsing through here
Laying waste
Smashing baseballs
Shutting us out
And sending us home
Home to wallow
Home to pine
Lick our wounds
Bow out heads
But before we left
They handed us brooms
Detritus and debris
To sweep and to clear
Memory to erase
Shame to shun
They mighty be Giants
We defeated be Dodgers
Are we ever not behind? I mean except for the drubbing . . .
Davis threw the ball a little too soon on the rundown, but it all worked out.
I know it’s game time, so this is for future reference if you ever have a few minutes to kill if you haven’t seen this. I’ve watched Youtube vids of all the post season series, but I found this one yesterday that I’d never seen before, with many video shots and angles also unseen before, of key moments in the entire decade of the 2010s, in a tidy 12 minutes, beginning with Buster’s first hit. I’d forgotten some of these; others are great to relive now. A real sense of joy, perhaps made more meaningful now as the team looks to be making its exciting move toward another post-season…
One thing lost in the recent ascent is that the Giants continue to make a lot of errors. The screw ups haven’t caused any major damage of late, but it’s still a problem.
And the errors that aren’t official errors.
Joc is in a perfect just missed it groove.
Didn’t miss that one. Gone.
Joc bomb!
Tick tock tick tock . . . Pass the popcorn!
Joc’s perfect miss seems to be back James. that ball was tattooed..
New ballgame again 3-3 as the Giants are relentless coming back..
No Doval tonight because of the Alexander fiasco on Sunday.
73 on the strike out pitch, lulz.
Another Craw error. Bullshit scoring call.
Weren’t pretty, but got through the inning.
As usual Krukow was trying to defend Craw on his shit throw to first that Villar did a great job just catching it..
lol
Wow this is really getting interesting.
Walk-off Joc walk!
Pederson’s bat has way more pine tar than George Brett’s infamous one.
Does that rule still exist?
I guess tonight it was time for the plate discipline to shine.
Walk off walk.
Victory number 9 straight!!!
Hader with a fader and Joc wasn’t biting for the baseloaded walkoff walk!!
Now that’s a *walk* off….

Wait a minute. Ray Davies just turned 79 and Andy Summers is 80?!?!? This does not compute.
