Only The Toes Knows
So my buddy Chris paints his toes like a woman and we have two *walk* off wins in a row? Can’t walk without toes, can you? Is this a coincidence? Or are particles being sprinkled on the fortune of this season?
Nine (9!) in a row…….
Tom Dempsey kicked a then record 63 yard FG with half a foot…
The toes got to bring a 10th right? I nodded off after the Joc-Itch game tying homer, so woke up to an even more improbable win than the last one..
My feet can’t fail me now.
Wonderful!
Continuing on what GH said above about this win being more improbable than the one before . . . Is it just me, or do “all” of these last 9 wins seem more improbable versus the one before? Just boggles my mind how each win (other than the “drubbing”) seems to involve a Giants comeback where the “they’re due to lose” vibe each game is suppressed . . . and the IMPROBABLE occurs.
Magic? Voodoo? Fairy dust?
Toes?
lol . . . Yeah, maybe.
Toes stuff is um way tmi, pics/vids included.
come on. Gotta support the team. Let’s all do it
knock yourself out. save the vids n pics for somewhere else pls.
You should have seen the video he sent after last night’s great win
Melvin after Monday game said he was down 3 top relievers who had all worked 2 days in a row and tried to use best he had. So he had Martinez and Hader all set last night–Martinez got blown save and L as Hader walked bases loaded (Schmitt!) and then Joc got gwrbi. Giants in 2 game stretch have more walks (12) than Ks (10.) Krukow was fired up about Schmitt getting 2 of those BBs in 2 days.
I read through Padres thread on Athletic yesterday AM and there were bloggers upset with Melvin late game management, and Hader as well. As one noted, Kapler used Doval 3 games in a row for saves he converted.
I do remember G Clarence “Foots” Walker from Buck Williams led Nets early 80s. Started 50 games for Larry Brown team that went 44-38 in 1981-82 season and was second on team in assists to Ray Williams.
Foots Walker, nice one. That was their first season in the Meadowlands after 4 years at Rutgers. Brown’s stint did not end well following season.
10 wins, 10 toes. Make it so. And LET’S GO ! ! ! ! !
9 in a row has nothing to do with a guy that paints his toes which is quite weird I might add. They won 7 before that without the toe conspiracy. Iβm toeing the line on this one saying the Giants have just the right balance of both position players, bench,BP,Closer, still need a Starting pitcher rather itβs bringing up Harrison,Newcomb,Wishenhut,,if they donβt feel their ready then u have to trade for Stroman,Bieber,Gialotti etc ..
I’ll go toe to toe with you on that weirdness fetish of yours. Loosen up, man.
Ohtani and Trout are great historic players, obviously, and the MLB Network endlessly hypes them; but the MLB Network may not understand that, until the Angels do something that matters, a lot of baseball fans are not going to be as hyped about Ohtani and Trout as the MLB Network expects.
Last night was a case in point. The Angels got shutout by the Dodgers. Ohtani and Trout were just two more batters getting shut down by Kershaw.
Tonight Ohtani and Trout have another chance in the spotlight, to make a statement. Ohtani and Trout wonβt excite me all that much until their team actually seems for real.
Guess some of the ‘good ol boys’ don’t much cotton to the newfangled way baseball is looked at. I can see where a part of scouting may be somewhat obsolete.
The article in LA Times is interesting and one of the guys involved in the suit was former Giants scout.
Yeah, you’re all old, you’re all gone, looks like the basis for an age discr claim.
That probably is the best avenue unless there are some young ones thrown in there also. That would be the way to cover your tracks.
The Moneyball movie was pretty rough on the older scouts.
In the movie the older scouts said things like:
βThat player has a good baseball face.β
βThat playerβs girlfriend isnβt very pretty. That showβs the player lacks confidence.β
And that famous draft scene, where the A’s selected Joe Blanton and all the young scouts cheered, unaware that the Giants then selected Matt Cain with the next pick.
Both the book and the movie are fundamentally fraudulent. The A’s won 103 games in 2002 because they could afford to pay Chavez,Tejada, Zito, Hudson, Muldur and Koch, all of whom played at AS level. (Tejada was mvp.) Moneyball never acknowledges their centrality. Never even mentions some of them, iirc.
I donβt remember the movie mentioning Hudson, Mulder, and Zito at all. That was probably pretty stunning to them.
I liked the book more than the movie, but the movie had entertainment value. It was a baseball movie that was accessible to a non-baseball crowd.
I read lot of history, but Iβm pretty forgiving of movies, in general. A movie needs to be a good movie, and accuracy can take a hit sometimes, Iβll concede that. A movie that Iβm not forgiving of is JFK, a bunch of unproven conspiracy theory stuff packaged as the real story.
so moneyball is happy milk-dud charm and JFK is the devil’s fantasy? The former rots your teeth.
Movies are subjective. I like how Siskel and Ebert would ultimately make a thumbs up or thumbs down judgement, in giving their opinion.
I go thumbs up on Moneyball and thumbs down on JFK.
The most fraudulent movie I ever saw was Secretariat.
It literally nauseates me…
Bohemian Rhapsody also terribly inaccurate but at least it was entertaining.
Secretariat was like root canal without Novacaine which I’ve experienced…
Itβs unfortunate that the old fart scouts probably canβt adapt to the world of analytics and computers instead of using their typewriters.Seems like a Moneyball scenario going on, itβs a lot different now in scouting, but I feel for these individuals itβs tough when u dedicated your whole life for this..
Reds won their 11th in a row. De La Cruz had two hits. Weβre hoping that Matos can sort of be our De La Cruz eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Matos has been a solid contributor so far, though.
Man the Braves are cold blooded they released Charlie Culberson hours before his Father was to throw out the 1st pitch on Fatherβs Day!
He was also on the 26 man roster and made NO Appearances for a whole month? Thatβs insane what teams ever do that??
D-Backs won today. Their rookie phenom, Carroll, went hitless.
Looks like De La Cruz and Carroll could have a tremendous battle for rookie of the year.
Be nice to see Schmitt & Bailey creep into the race.
Yeah, Bailey in particular has done a remarkable thing. Heβs a rookie who has won the starting catching job, is playing great defense, and has an OPS over .800 so far.
All of that is as impressive as De La Cruz and Carroll. Catcher is not as flashy a position, though.
Gallen started and got the W for the Snakes today, so the Giants will miss him this weekend.
I saw Culberson play in Single A. He was part of that strong San Jose Giants team that also had Buster and Craw.
If I remember correctly the Giants traded Culberson to get Scutaro in β12, and we all know how great that trade worked out for that championship season.
Scutaro didnβt do much the following season, but we donβt care.
My daughters snuck into that game in the 6th inning and saw that fantastic finish.
Jealous . . .
I was at that game with my boy, great memories
C Arroyo went 5-5 drove in 4 with HR (third of season) as BoSox beat Twins 10-4 yesterday. Duvall also homered for Sox, one of 6 hit all game in Twins yard.
D Leone took L today as Mets lost 10-8 to Stros. Mets had tied game up 6-6 top of 4 but Leone (who had already given up a HR in 3rd) gave up another one and 3 more earned in 1.1 innings. ERA of 5.49.
Dubon hit a double off Leone to start 3-run go-ahead rally in 4th, went 2-5 with 2 runs scored.
Arroyo is Boston’s starting SS?
Color me surprised.
2b. Started 30 games there so far. Played 17 games in RF for them last season
What a weird inning for Walker. Be nice to see us get a lead and keep it.
I simply canβt stand watching umps call balls and strikes any more.
There try and stretch out innings with Highway to Hjelle for 4 innings are so as long as he doesnβt get hammered..
Not sure how an ump misses that call so badly. That’s not even debatable.
DP to the rescue.
Soto with 2 ABs and 4 outs.
This is why the Giants keep winning itβs the asinine base running by their opponents!
Mookie&Machado are the latest candidates for dunce caps..
Machado fucked up on the double but only got away with it because Schmitt cut off the throw.
The Elton John movie Rocketman is really good, in my opinion, and I could tolerate some historical inaccuracies, but one bothered me.
Elton had a hugely important breakout performance at the Troubadour Club in L.A. in 1970. Elton had his bass player, Dee Murray and his drummer, Nigel Olsson with him. They were an incredibly well-rehearsed tight 3-piece band, as evidenced by the live album recorded later in the year, the album 11/17/70.
But in the movie Elton is playing with βthe Troubadour house band,β if they even had one.
That had to be very disappointing to Nigel to be left entirely out of the movie. Dee passed away years ago.
That’s fairly unbelievable. I get the intent, but Sabol is literally out by 10 feet.
Yes, it is ridiculous.
Overturned!
Good replay ruling. Sanchez was blocking the plate before he had the ball, and before the throw took him in that direction.
Fuck, man. Baseball players are too fucking soft. All they have to do is to be able to run around. They get paid millions to run around.
And they get hurt running around. All the fucking time.
The Posey rule pays dividends on the overturned call, Sanchez was clearly blocking the baseline and the relentless Giants add on to make it 4-0 with 2 more clutch hits.
Melvin comes out to argue, but….the home plate ump had agreed with him and called the runner out.
Melvin: βTell the New York replay umps Iβm really angry with them!β
I wonder if some team in the future will have stationary bikes in the dugout so players can stay loose and warm during the game.
Putting the DP in SDP.
How about Slater coming in from LF to back up a throw to the infield?
What does that tell you?
Noticed that, too.
10!

How’s Flightline doing?
