10/11 Sounds Pretty Good To Me
I talked to Chris and he confirmed that painting his nails was going too far even for him. So, the 10 game win streak had to end. At least it was quick. That one was over almost immediately. Huge crowd though. Will be interesting to see if they can keep that up this weekend against first place AZ.
Flavor’s claims are as real as a unicorn’s tap dancing skills! Those adorable little toes were on duty at the Birkenstock factory yesterday, working hard and couldn’t catch the game, which clearly cursed our Giants with a humongous loss. But fret not, my fellow Flappers! Tonight, those toes will be back in action, ready to stomp on those slithering snakes like a clumsy ballet dancer!
woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woooooofuckinghoooooooo!
Kyle Harrison’s last outing: 2.1 innings 7 hits 7 runs 3 HR 2 BBs 1 HBP.
But the pitch count? What was that? Is he stretching out the way they want him to? SMH.
73, 40 for strikes. Gave up 5 in first then 2 more in 3rd and that was it.
Hopefully he’s experimenting with a new pitch because those are hammering stats.
His focus on a new slider has been mentioned. But still. Hard to see him spending the summer working on a sweeper.
More bad news: Stripling went 4plus for San Jose, striking out 10.
Which one of these dudes is the Flightline freak?
None
Oh right, it’s TBO, sorry…
Yes. TBO is an A’s fan and wouldn’t ever compromise his fandom to check in here
Stripling said somewhere (Chron I think to Slush) that his back feels good and it might have been source of his earlier struggles. Whatev, but Giants aren’t gonna just DFA the guy and eat $25 mil if they think he can help them at some point.
Manaea only worked an inning yesterday, first action in 6 days which is fairly typical of game logs. Add him to the
DeSclafani Wood Junis of the 4.40-5.oo+ ERA club…If Stripling can get anywhere near last season numbers working few innings in middle of opener game, fine.
Oh we will see Stripling again, probably as soon as some rehab policies prevent the Giants from warehousing him in minors.
Looks like Stripling went on 15 day IL on May 19 (or so). Pitchers can rehab in the minors for 30 days.
no option pitchers, obviously
Trade Harrison for Stroman. Just kidding ….
Well I do wonder what (even if) Giants would have to give up to add an SP, which seems to be basic convo from lot of fans– Z needs to get a reliable starter or Giants doomed. Bart I noticed is hitting .163 with OPS under .500 for River Cats.
He will soon be gone in my opinion. He will also run out of options effective 30 days after the date he was sent down to the minors. Must be approaching that date in the next week or so. Maybe less.
Isn’t Bart in his final option year? Number of moves is still limited. Hard to keep track. If he can be sent down again this year that probably enhances what little trade value he may have
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/06/giants-option-joey-bart.html
He has one option left if he returns to San Francisco NLT 30 days after he was sent down to Sac. I think he was sent down 3 weeks ago. Clock is ticking.
Can option years expire mid season?
Dunno Xoot. I tried doing a search specifically regarding Bart and apparently, the Giants activated Bart from the injured list on Saturday (June 10th) and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento on the 11th. Consequently, from what I recall reading in another article, the clock starts ticking on the 11th of June and if he does not return to the Giants within 30 days (July 11th), he will not have any options left. That’s how I recall reading the article about a month ago.
The mlbtr article I linked says he’s in danger of turning 2023 into his final option year. If so, he can be optioned five times this year. Isn’t this is first one in 2023?
https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/minor-league-options
It doesn’t say anything about the 30 day clock (like the article I read last month), but this part of the link you sent Xoot, seems relevant to him at the moment:
“Out-of-options players must be designated for assignment — which removes them from the 40-man roster — and passed through outright waivers before being eligible to be sent to the Minors.”
That’s what the point of the article I read imparted. Wish I could find it.
If Bart is in his final option year he has “options.” He can be yo-yo’d this year. That’s my understanding. After this season, he’ll be out of options.
Noticed that some good college players were not selected in draft, including Adama Sonogo UConn, Oscar Tshiebwe of Kentucky and Drew Timme of Gonzaga. All are FAs, and Sonogo signed with Bulls. Jacob Toppin from Kentucky signed 2 way contract with Knicks.
Not easy road to making big clubs but others have done it, notably Fred Van Vleet and Austin Reaves.
I guess the consensus is that Oscar despite his uncanny rebounding instincts just won’t have a chance against good really big guys. Well, he may still have his Lexington preacher gig.
44% three shooter ain’t half bad. Podziemski flew up the draft board after killing the combine. Kinda soft and squishy, but everyone loves his analytics.
That being said, Kris Murray would have been a nice pick as well.
The Kings barely missed a chance to team him up with his brother. He was picked one pick before the Kings had their chance.
The Kings ended up trading away that draft pick anyway, so probably a moot point. The Kings are more focused on the free agent market at the moment. Who will be available, though?
The Kings drafted an intriguing player in the second round. A two guard/small forward swingman. I don’t follow college ball much, but he seems intriguing from what I read about him yesterday.
Colby Jones from Xavier.
“The Sacramento Kings traded veteran center Richaun Holmes and the 24th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.
Oliver-Maxence Prosper, a forward from Marquette, was selected at No. 24.
The deal helped clear cap space for the Kings.
With free agency starting on July 1, Sacramento will have the flexibility to improve its roster with more than $30 million in cap space.”
Holmes had fallen down the depth chart for the Kings.
You have to shoot 50% from 2 point range to score the same amount of points you would score by shooting 33.3% from 3 point range. I figured that out all by myself…
Xoot, here ya go . . . Not the article I read, but it says essentially the same thing.
https://aroundthefoghorn.com/posts/sf-giants-approaching-important-deadline-for-young-catcher-01h3b20n8sy9
Yeah that says what the mlbtr piece I posted says–Bart is about to turn 2023 into his final option year. So he can get sent down five times this year (theoretically, I think he has to stay down for ten days or something each time). Giants can bring him up and send him back down or trade him to a team that could do the same. Let’s hope there’s a contender in a couple of weeks with a catcher injury problem that wants a backup or backup backup.
About a half-dozen, maybe more. Most prominent is Murphy and Grandal, lesser light – McCann. All due back supposedly by July.
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/injuries/
There you go. The fact that he still has “options” this year gives such teams flexibility if they think they can use him. Hope to hell the Giants don’t end up needing him.
Sheesh, been busy all day and just catching up to this potential coup in Russia, involving that whack job, Prigozhin. If not for Russia’s nukes, I would be advocating an invasion by NATO, as their military sucks wind. lol
Anybody taking over from Putin seems would be unlikely to be “better” in most ways, other than maybe decide to quit in Ukraine under present borders and negotiate an ending to hostilities. Maybe the Ukraine offensive is going worse for the Russians than it appears. Truth is absent in war…
Agree. In fact, Ukraine is taking advantage of it apparently, i.e., just read a new article, where
“The Russian Ministry of Defense said early (their) Saturday that Kyiv is concentrating several brigades for an offensive in the Bakhmut direction, taking advantage of Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s “provocation.”
I agree with blade that Bart’s time as a Giant is probably short-lived. Bailey looks like the real deal catcher for the next decade, barring injury. Bart has been a victim of circumstance during the minors, I think he can be a very serviceable catcher. He just needs to make more contact at the plate. Maybe another organization can fix that…
Snarkk, unrelated to Bart . . . If you spy anything for $500-$700k with water views (2 bed, 2 bath, under 2000 sq. ft.) near you, give me a shout. Seriously going to be looking to get out of this State by end of next year. Looking at all Western States, along with Montana, Colorado again, Minnesota, Utah, and Wisconsin. TY . . .
Will do. $700K will get you more house than that, but not necessarily water views, especially if unrestricted…
Boots Riley’s I’m a Virgo debuts on Prime Video today, much ballyhooed. Main character is a 13 ft teenager in Oakland. Riley’s one movie, Sorry to Bother You, was very good. Danny Glover had a supporting role.
Isan Diaz at 2B tonight.
I missed most of last week. Who is Diaz?
Sac call up hot shot.
I’m looking for a cheap house on the Calif coast somewhere between Cambria and Gualala. About a million. Any recommendations?
Brookings in Oregon, just above the border, has a banana belt climate. Ocean view homes were going for under $500k at the start of the pandemic, but have exponentially increased. I actually was eyeing this home at $697k about 4 years ago . . . it’s now estimated at around a million.
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/98500-Harbor-Hills-Hts-Brookings-OR-97415/92982543_zpid/
I was just there. Bit of a meth vibe.
Working class town. I have gone up that coast at least a dozen times and most of the towns Brookings size have that “vibe.” Basically, people that have been there for generations and folks (mostly retirees) with money, sometimes called equity refugees, recognize these West coastal towns as the least expensive areas to buy a home with ocean views. Same deal with California’s Emerald Triangle, except it’s pot.
Old friend of mine owns a place in Ft Bragg. I plan to visit this summer. Look around. But man I can’t stand the rain.
I’m partial to Calif. I like working class towns.
Gualala!! Spent a 4th of July up there when the kids were little. Cool little town.
Try Trinidad. . .
I’ll look. Sea Ranch is my idea of Gualala.
Yaz to IL.
Diaz is LH hitter, Giants little short of with Yaz out and Wade Jr. missing some time.
2022 at Sac he had .950 OPS and 23 bombs/37 XBHs in 280 ABs. Got hurt earlier and hadn’t played much, only 24 ABs in Sac.
Struggled in mlb his first go around.
That’s for sure…
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/diazis01.shtml
Hell Trinidad is way up in the rainy country. Fuck that. I’m thinking Cambria, Morro bay, maybe something north of SF. I’ve pretty much ruled out Monterey/Pacific Grove (fog but no redwoods) and Santa Cruz (I remember the way it used to be). Million doesn’t buy anything there anyway.
As far as Bart goes sometimes you just have to cut bait and go home. All drafts are pretty much crapshoots. He seems like a good kid and maybe a change of scene would be good for him.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. Joc Pederson (L) DH
3. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
4. Michael Conforto (L) RF
5. Blake Sabol (L) LF
6. Patrick Bailey (S) C
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Isan Diaz (L) 2B
9. Luis Matos (R) CF
P: Logan Webb (R)
Reds’ DeLaCruz hits for cycle in their 12th straight win…
Elly hella chains. Helluva rookie.
Thx for the Diaz info. The beaches in Trinidad (Ca) are very cool. Brookings, like most of Oregon, seems stuck in a time warp. Looked like the 90s (balloon pants, green dyed hair, etc) at the Fred Meyers. Less so in Lincoln Beach
Diaz has homered off Scherzer and deGrom…
Lincoln Beach… senior year in college spring break (I was in Denver at the time), 1979, bought one of those 15-day bus passes popular at the time (get on or off anywhere), backpacked up the OR coast for a bit, ended up one Friday evening in Lincoln looking for a bed and a shower and a bar. Bunch of fishermen had just cashed in and were dropping bills on beers. One crusty old guy took a look at me (long hair, scruffy, etc.) and started giving me shit, although good naturedly. That went on for a while, but by the end of the evening and many beers and shots later, the guy said “You don’t need that damned college degree, drop out and come work for me on my boat”. Thought about it for a minute or two…. Love that area.
Yeah, very nice. Lotsa rain though,
Evan godalmighty.
De La Cruz has a lot of swagger, and has backed it up with what he’s doing for the Reds.
And Longoria taunts the Giants with a crushed HR to dead center off of a Webb cookie ..
You knew that was going to happen.
I’ll miss Kruk and Kuip when they retire someday, but I won’t miss some of their hackneyed phrases like “ugly-finder.”
As we’ve discussed they should have retired that one after Eugenio (I think) was badly injured on one of them…
Yes
Dubon hit an HR vs. the Dodger rookie who no-hit the Giants for 6 innings the other day.
Conforto with the big hit.
Damm Great off field approach by both Conforto&Sabol for doubles as the G-Men go up 3-1
Not sure why Bailey tried to throw it through the runner.
2 whiffs on those balls
Chuck I think a good/experienced 1B would have easily known he had time, and stepped toward the ball across the line, caught it, and jogged off the field with 3rd out in his glove. Wade isn’t, so he reached across to catch it. BIG fail. Cost a run, and Webb 12 more pitches:(
Confortofied!!!
True dat.
Conforto on fire!
Won’t you come home Pat Bailey?
Bailey bomb!
Dat ball is gone.
Wont you come home Bill Bailey!
He’s on the road with GNR…
Bailey was pretty funny, kind of admiring the blast but then suddenly realizing oh shit, I’d better run in case it doesn’t go out….
I’m jealous . . . How are you watching the game in ‘Nam? Got the stupid dots going on here on Gamecast.
Sometimes I can see the games on that MLB66 site, but this game isn’t on. Just following the quick videos…
Zuzus petals. I hate that movie.
Yeah, letting the alcoholic uncle have anything to to with running the bank is a fatal mistake.
Guess you won’t be moving to Pottersville…
Well if it’s on the Calif coast within walking distance of the beach and the rickety bank offers a good int rate….
Blade, try streameast. They are showing baseball again. You just have to lick off the ads that pop up and go back to the original screen.
Works great. I watched the last 2 seasons of Warriors basketball and Giants games on it.
If your TV connects to the internet you can watch it there. When we were in Oregon last week I watched some of the games on my laptop.
I can do either . . . or even my laptop or Apple tablet. Got 4 devices connected to Comcast.
Do I have to do a virus check afterwards? No problem. Just want to know? I rarely go on those sites anymore unc, since I purchased an annual subscription of Bitdefender 2 years ago. Best money I have spent in a long time.
No, just a lot of popups. I have a mac tho. It is grreat at keeping out the bad shit.
If you have a malware detector then you SHOULD be going to those sites. (insert smiley face).
It should be fine. Just a couple popup ads.
I will try it tomorrow.
So Jameson and Bailey makes the perfect drink and matchup, better when Bailey gets the upper hand like this time..
Haha.
Gimmick-dude pitcher can be agony to watch sometimes.
So Longo.
Years ago in tiny Martinsville, NJ, a total asshole realtor named Randy Brown was buying up as much land as he could, plus access space for roads to connect his properties. The only thing in his way was my Father, who owned a bunch of the access land. The joke became my Dad getting the nickname George Bailey, trying to stop Martinsville from becoming Brown Town. Which he did. Someone even made signs around town once, Say No to Brown Town! May all the Bedford Falls of the world carry on….
Cool story.
Very cool. I was in Bridgewater a couple weeks ago, what part of town is that?
Martinsville is part of Bridgewater, small town between the 1st and 2nd Watchung Mts., just a little valley town on the way to Bernards and Basking Ridge…
Basking Ridge? No shit?
I think AT & T had a big office in Basking Ridge years ago…
You know Basking Ridge?
Oh yeah, huge complex. Also in Bedminster, not too far. Most of my friends there, their parents all worked at AT&T…
My friend’s dad worked there – early 80’s?
Never heard of it before or since…
I wonder what percentage of current Wall Streeters know what the second “T” in AT&T stands for?
Tons of little old towns like that all around Jersey. Usually the only times you’d hear about any of ’em was when there was a family murder/suicide thing going on….
When I was a brakeman in the 80s the office clerks in the towers were still called telegraphers.
I was at Bridgewater-Raritan HS, your old stomping grounds?
Yes John, that was my highschool. Back then, there were 2, Bridgewater Raritan East and West, all those AT&T kids, haha. The current one remaining highschool was West. Good times. What were you doing there?
Ha, I forgot there was East & West schools. I was there for lacrosse games.
The Angels lost to the Rockies, which is what the Angels do.
Craw with the snowcone!! D bounced back from some shakey shit.
Victory!
Just when you’re tempted to shake off Brandon Crawford and look to move on he makes a play like that.
BACK to Victory lane!!
Grab the next 2 and there right there stomping on their toe’s!! Big game for Conforto much needed..
