Nice Win, eh?
Didn’t even have to come back for that win. Toronto piled up the K’s and we just steamrolled them. I have never really understood the Vlad G thing. Just solely from watching his at bats. He flails at everything (at least when I’m watching him). Walker pitched Belt masterfully in the first inning.
Tonight, Webby…..
I’ve watched just a little of Ryan Walker and boy does he have some nasty stuff and this was the most effective I have seen of Tyler Rogers. That was the definition of a team win. Doval (and maybe this the effect of having Patrick Bailey in there) has been a different pitcher even in how he has been attacking the hitters…well done Gigantes…
Well, his dad got away with it. Jr’s numbers are pretty solid.
Still blown away by Bailey and the rooks kicking ass. The team was stupidly boring at the start of the season.
one thing I’ve learned over the years here is that preseason predictions on season record is pointless. The team is always drastically different in Sept than on opening day.
We’re talking June! Team is MUCH different in 1.5 months. Crazy.
i like Walker. I don’t really know why, he seems to pitch out of control. But his stuff looks unhittable. Like if he could just locate it a smidge better I think he’d be unhittable.
On May 5th, the Giants were 6th in team OPS and today they are 5th. As of yesterday’s game, the only clear difference maker on offense between then and now is Bailey. They were 9th in ERA on May 5th, 3rd today. The effects of the terrible starts by Stripling, Manaea, Hjelle, Beck and Taylor Rogers were still making an impact on the numbers. The 30 plus innings from Winn and Walker have helped, but the improved pitching of Manaea, Taylor Rogers, and Beck have been a bigger deal.
Gonna start calling you Oracle Jr. with these divine pronouncements.
And I even refrain from the insults.
So far . . .
lqtm
Just reminded me of the Haight Ashbury Oracle. What fun.
Was he like Dot Man in Berkeley back in the 80s? Or the paper?
Polka Dot Man IMO was at the top spot on the wacko compendium when I was at Berkeley in the early-mid ’80s. I dunno what happened to him. Seemed harmless, but I can’t warrant that. Naked Guy came on scene later, I saw him a few times around Sproul Plaza when I was back in Berkeley in late ’80s, I think. I seem to remember he wore sneakers and a backpack. Nothing else. Quite a hirsute man, I recall. He eventually died in jail, I believe, suicide. He had issues…
I did quite a bit of litigation work for the city of Berkeley. One day at lunch the City Attorney told some funny stories about dealing with The Naked Guy when she first joined the office as a deputy CA. She said he was fine. The people outraged by him were a pain in the ass though.
I lived in Berkeley then. Never saw the guy, but I guess he mainly hung on campus.
No, it was a newspaper of sorts. The only place I ever saw it was in the Haight.
Polka Dot man. Right. Buddy of mine lived on Durant near one of his favorite corners and I talked to him all the time. Said he worked in finance in the city for 10 years and got out of the game because he was burnt out. He seemed fairly intelligent, if not screwy as fuck.
I wish I saved some of his printed manifestos that he used to hand out.
Polka Dot Man used to partially block sidewalks, frozen in place, silent. I walked around him a few times.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
3. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
4. Joc Pederson (L) DH
5. Patrick Bailey (S) C
6. Michael Conforto (L) RF
7. Luis Matos (R) CF
8. Blake Sabol (L) LF
9. Casey Schmitt (R) SS
P: Logan Webb (R)
I’m calling a Schmitt dinger tonight.
Sounds good.
Given he hasn’t had an AB or maybe one in 5 games or so, I’m calling 2Ks, but I’ll settle for just one. I heard Baggs on KNBR say they’ve been working with him in this down period to sharpen up his strike zone recognition. I’ll say again he needs to go to Sac and face real pitchers to drop his K rate. He’ll probably do so when Yaz comes back. Instruction by the big club coaches is fine, but only goes so far without constant reps at the plate…
Lot of bounce back last night. Walker gave up run iirc in last outing as opener, and Wood got thrashed. Estrada had been in 2-25 slump. Lesson there for Mr. Schmitt. Stay ready your time will come.
Checked out game log and splits for Joc and he was struggling early in May as well. BA got as low as .222 and OPS was .730 around May 7, picked up a bit then he got hurt and missed 3 weeks. Now the BA is up to .261 and OPS is at .860, and it had been as high as .900s. Only has 3 HRs this month but 10 BBs and 15 hits overall. And clutch ABs.
Joc has slight edge in OB .376 to .371 on Belt.
Like to see LaMonte get back at it tonight. Rough trip yesterday, 0-4 with 3 Ks and GIDP.
Gausman was dealing but Giants held them off scoreboard and he took the L.
I’m calling a Bailey Car Bomb HR tonight!
This team would not be where they are without his stellar play.
Kid looks like a 10 year vet behind the dish, calling pitches now as the WHOLE STAFF believes in him.And a great percentage of throwing out runners as well.Getting ahead of myself but his arm and release time is Posey/Bench/Pudge and others..
Startup the Bart,Ramos trades, Bailey &Matos OWN those spots..
Loo and Mac . . . What do you think of Cohen’s interview today? Me? I like what he had to say. Specifically, he doesn’t seem rash, e.g., said he would NOT fire his leadership group, Showalter, Eppler, etc. He did say, “I’m preparing my management team for all possibilities. If they don’t get better, we have decisions to make at the trade deadline. That’s not my preferred end result. We’re preparing all contingencies.” Sounds like he will get rid of some dead wood at the trade deadline (if possible). That being said, again he wasn’t over reacting with regard to his stars, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, declining to comment specifically about them (or any other star player).
Would love to have an owner like him coupled with Z . . . I think they would accomplish a lot.
Blade, I didn’t see Cohen’s press conference. I know some of their fans wanted to hear from hiim re this rough stretch, so they got that, though not sure what that accomplishes.
There goes the shutout.
Oooops. Webbie is not sharp tonight.
Punish him with an opener next start, I say.
Maybe Webb could use an opener.
Forest fire ash in the Toronto air must be getting to Webb.
Logan’s runs.
Might see Crawford are Villar tonight on the mound.
Webb is getting crushed,no cheap hits at all.,
Great another injury, Conforto out after slamming into wall nailing both knees..
Matos is exhibiting a lot of warning track power. His bomb off of Kelly barely cleared the wall in the corner. Probably means nothing. I just want him to be more Eric Davis than Garry Maddox. Not that I’d complain if he had a career like the latter.
Giving up 2 hits to that doofus goofball dork Jays catcher … WTF.
There’s 1 back.
Jon Miller seems to be distant this year. Earlier, after four innings, he still wasn’t sure who the ump is behind the plate tonight. And just now he told the exciting tale of Schmitt quickly prepping at Sac to play SS with no apparent knowledge that Schmitt played a lot of SS last year when Luciano was hurt. He’s got one eye on the door.
At least he goes on the road.
Kruk and Kuip are “on assignment”. Kruk has his health issue, IDK about Kuiper, maybe his health is fragile, too…
Yeah. Neither of them travel anymore.
Yeah, Kuiper was out a while last year with a health issue everyone mentioned generally but kept private as to details. All three will be riding off into the fog soon.
Kuiper was on/off chemo I do believe.
Yeah the memory banks of Miller,Kuiper &Krukow are short circuiting at a rapid pace.
Then again Fleming has his moments like thinking an inning was over and ready to go to break when it was only the second out.He was baffled when Lopez said their still up, and said something lame yada yada..
Stripchat? He gave up the run but otherwise, how’s he doing?
Maybe he’s found his role. Garbage man.
Bet he’ll be back in the rotation after tonight.
Why not use him as fill after an opener? They don’t seem to be anxious to to return to traditional roles.
Yeah, they could do that, too. He’s not going more than 5-6 innings anyway. But they have to try to extract some value out of him.
Compared to Webb’s line Striptease looked good Chuck.
3 innings 1 run 0 walks 3 K’s on 50 pitches saving the pen extra work.So a quality opener start..
Giants have now lost in three countries this season.
if any of you have any idea wtf he’s talking about please let me know how to advise him.

to me
Flav: Amazement, excitement and frustration. Amazing, that resurrection from being down in the dumps in April and somehow managing to lose the series to teams like K.C., Detroit and more. All of a sudden the team jelled, with contributions coming from all over the lineup, particularly after bringing up Schmitt, Bailey and Matos…overcoming a lot of key injuries speaks well of the depth on the team and throughout the system. Seems like Los Gigantes have concocted a successful formula for making a go outta bullpen games. One problem after another with most of the starters, but the Bullies showing strong and damn near bulletproof. Sure didn’t look that way in the early going. Winning virtually every series while facing upper middling and strong teams. That’s quite a feat if you think about it.
Excitement: Who could forget that 10 game winning streak which finally got notice earlier this week by rating systems which now peg the Giants as the sixth best in MLB. Bailey is by every possible metric, a keeper. Ditto, Matos. Ultimate game-winner with his first MLB homer. Wowie, Zowie, Kapowie. One more base on balls than strikeouts. His bat to ball level is remniscent of a certain outfielder whose godfather was #24. Doval throws a lot of pitches and a huge proportion of them add up to special K’s. Leading the majors in saves. The nervousness he had at times in his rookie season is no longer a significant factor. Wade has one of the highest OBP’s in MLB, while Thairo has fully come into his own. Davis is fast becoming one of the best trade steals S.F. has picked up in many a year. After being Cained through most of May and virtually all of April, our Webb-spinner gritted it out and just the other day led the Majors in I.P. That set jaw he sports is a telltale sign of his guts and determination. Thing is, we got us a TEAM. No super-stars on board to wow the telecasters. No showboat ego-trippers either. It’s like outta the original “Three Musketeers”…”All for one and one for all”. That’s the #1 litmus test of a winner.
Frustration: Somehow I cannot even lurk on the Flap. Every time I try to get on, I get a quick glimpse of names and comments and then it flips to a page-filling blurb of your opening statement…so it’s a bit like chewing down on a well-buttered sandwich, but with no meat in the middle. Have tried several stabs at working through the thing, but nothing has worked out. Talk about frustrating! Bad enough to not being able to communicate, but to be unable to learn from the postings of all the Flappers is simply maddening. Nobody to share with, talking Giants baseball. Maybe I’m missing something simple, being the aging technophobe that I am. Otherwise, health is no big issue. Getting in six days per week out at the homestead, where its on the feet almost all the time and getting garden, yard, landscaping done. Good to stay busy.
Hey Craig, if you or any other flapper has some idea of how I can at least be able to lurk, I’d be most appreciative. Looks like gametime is right about now. So hello to all the gang and GO GIANTS! -stix
I have no answers or new suggestions, but I do know Stix has to be able to post here for us to win it all.
Looks like Toronto has a pretty good team.
You can bank Conforto heading to DL with the hammy&and 2 banged up knees.
How about OF/INF Stud Tyler Fitzgerald to get some work out there..
That game was quick.
BF, ask Stix if he’s going to the main website:
https://oneflapdown77.com
It seems like he should be able to view it just like any other website.
Unfortunate that opener worked for Toronto. Belt with another double. Only has 4 HRs but 16 doubles now.
Bassitt starts tomorrow.
Wade Jr 3 hits, rest of lineup 3-28.
One more Joc stat: he leads team in triples, with 2. giants have 7 total as a team, half way through season. ?
Belt has OPS up to .795, just about even with Vlad Jr. and Chapman, 40 points up on Springer.
B/R says Belt salary is $9.3 million, Springer 3 more years @$24 mil each, Bassitt $19 million (3 yrs/$63 mil), Vlad Jr. $14.5 million, Chapman (FA next year) $12.5 million.
Belt has done well for himself financially over the years, that’s clear. I shudder to think at his earnings per game appearance, given all his DL stints…
Does Stix have a smart phone? Worse come to worst he can use that.
Tell him to clear his cache. Sometime that can kick you to unwanted places.
Zoom call would be fun
Wow, good idea Chuck. 2x per month zoom call with the Flap crew?
Join or not, up to each Flapper.
A Gigantes free-for-all over the ether. Would either be great or a disaster …
I want to see Stix’s compound. And the infamous rifle.
Might be time to hit a game soon for the fappers, uh flappers.
Ask him what browser he is using? For example, Opera has a built in VPN and if it is activated, frequently, many sites will not allow anyone in and divert them elsewhere (particularly any financial site or site that requires a log in w/password). In any event, try all of them, e.g., Edge, Google, etc.
D-Back’s blow their game in the 9th and lose.
Yanks try to complete perfect game vs. the A’s.
Yankee Domingo German just finished a perfecto at the Oakland E Coli. The many NY fans behind the visitors dugout are going wild. Big attendance bump for the A’s.
Well, good to hear Stix is doing well at least.
Doesn’t he have some younger relatives that might know this stuff?
