Trade Deadline Looming
The Giants players are holding up their end of the bargain. They just keep winning games. Farhan needs to get busy. He almost always disappoints me this time of year.
LLoved That Win
Irritating blown save but the Giants deserved that win and in the past those are games they’d lose. They handled Boston all game though and JD came through with not just the walk off but a bat flip for the ages.
What is Farhan doing right now. That’s what I’m thinking about this morning.
No Lumber
it’s wild to watch this offense fall off a cliff like this.
April: 46 bombs July: 21 bombs
And you can question whether they fiddled with the ball all day long but there’s this too:
April BA: .248 July BA: .203
TWO OH THREE!!!!!!
That’s outrageous incompetence for a team in one month.
Need hitters. Need starting pitchers.
Time ticking away.
July 28th!!!!!
Blog title today is an inside joke with someone…….
Anyway, MLBtraderumors is saying the Giants are interested in Paul DeJong. He’s most notiable for hitting a home run last summer to vault me into first place in the $4 tourney that landed me 4k. So I will have a softspot should we pick him up. He’s got power but also a lot of holes in his game.
Outside of that, we need another starting pitcher desperately. Rental preferred.
Time Ticking Down
This is the time of year I begin to get especially irritated with Giants management. There is no reason not to go for it this year. We have the prospects to make trades that will improve the team. Get into the post season and anything can happen.
Well, not with 1.5 reliable starting pitchers. We need another one. Badly. But instead of going out and getting Lucas Giolito which the Angles did last night (for a mediocre price I might add) the Giants traded the guy with a bunch of L’s at the beginning of his name for someone no one has ever heard of.
Come on Farhan, just throw the fans a bone. Not a sabermetric bone. A bone we can all chew on.
Can We Beat The Worst Team In The League?
It has to this. The Giants need to beat the A’s, handily, to prove to Farhan that this flawed team he cobbled together is worthy of an add-on or two at the trade deadline next Tuesday. Speaking of “cobbling” something together, there’s no better time than now to see if Cobb can reset the direction of his season. If he can’t wipe out Oakland then I fear it’s all downhill for him the rest of this year. Same for SF.
Tigers
Detroit is still awful but they have arguably their best SP going so this might not be the cakewalk it appears to be. In fact, with Stripless listed as today’s starter maybe the Tigers are the ones viewing this as a cakewalk?
I’ll post Castellani’s post game wrap after each game. If you don’t follow him on twitter, it’s fun to see how far that kid has come in just 3-4 years. He’s open with his autism diagnosis, his depression, alcoholism and bulimia. He loves baseball, man. He’s an easy guy to root for.
Mike Ivie
I was seriously bummed out to hear he died. There are a handful of games I remember going to as a kid. That game vs LA was one of them. I remember everything about that moment. Where I was sitting, what everything smelled like around me. The brilliant sunshine that day.
I’ve said this before but that was the loudest I’ve ever heard anything in my life. I couldn’t even see straight it was so loud when that ball went over the wall. My first concert was Van Halen at the Cow Palace sitting right next to the speakers. That was nothing compared to that Ivie bomb.
Mike Ivie gave me a moment I’ll never forget and he’ll always be special to me for that.
Road Trip Meltdown
Glad I’m not watching any of this. Losses piling up. San Diego, on the other hand, is wonderful.
Our 1 good starter goes today.
Make it so.
More Cow Bell
Keeping Cobb cobbled together for an entire season was always going to be a chore. Are we down to 1 reliable starting pitcher? Methinks we need more.
I’m off to San Diego with TBO.
New Thread
Missed the game. In Bend now. Open is on. Our other reliable starting pitching going tonight.
Stacking Wins
What an exciting game last night. When they were down 4-1 my mom, who knows very little about these things, said “well they’ll come back, they always seem to come back.” And sure enough they did. More than once.
I look at the Yankees in last place. Sad Diego floundering 10.5 games out. St. Louis doing the same. It’s just outrageous to see the Giants 13 games over .500 and but a game and a half out of first place.
Trying To Beat The Reds
Giants Winning, Flavor Losing
I was too busy getting my ass handed to me on the golf course by my friend Luke to see any of the game. These 3 great Flap hall of famers didn’t miss it though.

Last night we had the annual long drive contest. We head up to the 14th tee at Big Meadow and each let 6 drives fly. I lost by 13 inches. Thirteen motherfucking inches. Luke’s longest was 310, mine was just short of 309. But it gets worse. He didn’t want the cash prize I owed him. He wanted my shirt that just says “Candlestick” on it. I was wearing that shirt. He took it off my back.
Terribly disappointed right now.

Handling The Pirates
Got to catch the last couple of innings last night. Heading out now for Black Butte. Both the Giants, and me, keep winning…..
Taking Pittsburgh To Brown Town
Didn’t see the game but it appears to be a nice and tidy 6-4 W. It’s funny how many Giants fans there are in Portland. It’s like the Bay Area, everyone loves them.
You all will be happy to know that I won the putting contest I flew up here for yesterday.
Winning Time
This is a good way to re-start the break. Pittsburgh sucks, man. They started out ok but were destined to come back to earth. Rich Hill is supposedly going for them–that is, unless he dies of old age.
We should smoke these fools like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70’s……
One More Day Till Ball
No baseball till tomorrow and that’s when my vacation begins. I’m headed to Portland then Black Butte and after that down to Del Mar. Will change out the threads as always but my interactions will be more limited.
If you’re itchin’ for some action it’s Opening Day at Saratoga so there’s that. I bet Loo has some fond memories of this day.
NL Wins
That was a fun game to watch. Definitely entertaining. And our 2 reps performed admirably. The one thing that ruined it were the uniforms. I’d love to hear the argument for those. It can’t be marketing. There is NO WAY any sane person would buy one of those for themselves.
Players playing the game in their home uni is the only acceptable look and I want to know why this changed.
All Star Game
There were some moments in the Bomb Derby last night that were captivating but that event misses the mark in a lot of ways. Adley Rutschman, the great young catcher from Baltimore, turned around and starting hitting right handed and banged out 6 of the 8 pitches he saw–and that’s after hitting 20 or so left handed. But then he was instantly eliminated by Robert. Though I didn’t bet him I really wanted to see him hit again.
The other problem is that you really don’t see any of the bombs leave the park. The hitter doesn’t even see them he’s too busy loading up for the next pitch.
I made money on it and that was fun but as Zumiee said on the last thread, if you aren’t gambling on it then it’s probably not going to keep your interest.
Who’s watching the game tonight? I personally think this game started to get ruined when they stopped having the players wear their home jersey’s.
A Man Pitched Yesterday
Flavor said, on July 8, 2023 at 7:13 am (Edit)
I don’t even care what the record is. I just hate it. It’s pussy baseball. Give me a starter who can pitch all game. That’s the baseball I miss. All this namby pamby 1 inning bullshit is lame.
_______________________________________________________
And as if the baseball Gods were listening, I was given yesterday’s gift.
Thank you, baseball Gods.
What a way to hit the break.
Openers
Solid win against a shitty opponent. I haven’t checked this, but it seems like our opener ususally just *opens a can of worms for the guy following him. Gimmicky bullshit is what it is.
This break couldn’t come soon enough for me.
The Rockies LOL
Limping, lumbering, flailing…..you pick the word for how we are heading into the all star break. Colorado is terrible, especially away from that joke park they play in.
Oh well, it’s baseball, there are going to be a lot of losses like this one over the course of the season.
Opener again today. It’s such a half-assed way to play baseball, isn’t it? This isn’t baseball.
Openers For As Far As The Eyes Can See
Slowly lumbering into the all star break, it’ll be interesting to see if Kap goes opener back to back in this series. Stripless going tonight but it’s anyone’s guess for how long. Then the dreaded *undecided for Saturday with Webb finishing off the first half.
Trade deadline not till August 1 so there’s still time to keep winning and inspire Farhan to make some moves to allow us the possibility of post season play.
Shutout
USA USA!!!!
Well, at least we have the perfect antitdote for that terrible game: July 4th. The greatest of all the holidays. I’m not overly patriotic. I’d say I’m properly patriotic. But I just love everything about this day, man. And today is fun because The Great San Dawg and I have managed to schedule a golf game. We’ll probably be coming off the course during the last couple of innings of the game. So GO GIANTS! But a day like Independence Day is about so much more than just a baseball game.
Enjoy this awesome day however you choose. Just make sure you appreciate it and the country we live in.
Frustrating Game
It’s too bad we had to play like that on a nationally televised game. I still don’t understand wtf Matos was doing on either one of those plays in the outfield. Quick trip home to play Seattle who we should beat but this is a lot of travel with no days off. Worried about the game tonight.
We got Doval through and no one else to the All Star game. That isn’t a surprise at all since most of our hitters, who might have some borderline all star numbers, don’t get any national attention at all. Playing like crap last night isn’t likely to change that.
Disco Must Stop
The Giants seem to have the opener thing clicking. Twice a week. Webb is reliable as a starter. After that? Winn is next most reliable? That cannot stand. It’s another day that ends in Y which means we have another pic of Flap HOFers to post. Flap Nation spans the globe. Looks like Mac’s hat has seen some shit.
And beyond…..
