A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Disco Must Stop

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 2, 2023

The Giants seem to have the opener thing clicking. Twice a week. Webb is reliable as a starter. After that? Winn is next most reliable? That cannot stand. It’s another day that ends in Y which means we have another pic of Flap HOFers to post. Flap Nation spans the globe. Looks like Mac’s hat has seen some shit.

And beyond…..

I’d love to know what the rest of that sign says behind them. I’m assuming it says “Know You Foe” with a story about the Giants. Mac or Loo did you notice it?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 2, 2023 at 7:40 am

Yes. Flemms on radio post game Friday night talked about late game Gillaspie HR. Miller interviewed Flores.
      Great pic!

I’m sure that’s what it said, with some info on the Giants. That’s the humongous scoreboard/video screen at Citi Field, making the one on the right tiny in comparison. Loo and I agreed we miss the scoreboard at Shea.

Even with all the openers and some struggles from SPs, Giants are 3rd NL for ERA and 5th NL for runs against. Wins above average NL for SPs, 2nd.
7th OPS, 5th for runs scored. Marlins dead last. How do they have record they do?

    Mac&Loo rockin that sold picture!

As good as the BP has been the Giants Starting Pitching I heard was ranked 28th with an ERA of 4.66 that’s not gonna cut it! For me right now it’s the W boys Webb&Winn then we’re sin ..
Cobb Salad is decent but DeScaloppini ,Stripass,Maenea are scrap heaps..

They need another good starter that gives them length in the rotation either a trade (Stroman,Bieber,Gialotti,MrSprtdude guy Lynch? are someone else on Z’s radar)
are promote within with Harrison,Wishenhut, they sure can use lefty’s in the rotation which they don’t have but when will they be ready?Harrison for sure is close as he’s getting stretched out ( up to 83 pitches now)I always liked when the Giants had lefty Bum&Sanchez it was a good balance in the rotation.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 2, 2023 at 9:41 am

Hmm he likes Webb’s ass are something their butt buddies.Stroman really liked the Giants and Webb really impressed him during his visit but decided to go for the money with the loser Cubs, not sure about his personality in the clubhouse? But he’s a solid pitcher they could use in this rotation..Give them Bart,Ramos,Villar and add on from there..

hit a go ahead HR with his team trailing on the road (8th)
threw out the potential tying run on a SB attempt (9th)
The last MLB catcher to accomplish both feats in the 8th inning or later was Carlton Fisk June 15 1976.”

Yeah agreed on all counts–with sheer number of teams after pitching Ramos and Villar as add ins won’t cut it. Giants have some pitching and OF prospects at AA/High A iirc that might be throw ins.

Vaun Brown and Grant McCray are guys I’d like to see them keep. Lot of promise there. The big number of pitchers in the system must create some trade possibilities, but not for a rental I’d hope.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 2, 2023 at 5:14 pm

He needs to go elsewhere. He has beatched about one thing or another all season even after that last outing when he did well in relief. Manaea Stripling Beck and the all the guys that have been openers have all bought in to the plan. Away!

  49. xoot's avatar xoot said, on July 2, 2023 at 6:21 pm

Matos is weirdly cautious about plays in front of him–in the field and on the bases. He’s still hitting LDs and otherwise getting on base; he covers deep ground in CF. He actually runs well, when he’s not being overly cautious. He’s stolen 2 in 2 attempts (although iirc one of those started with a weak jump). He’s certainly not tense. Maybe he’ll cut loose more as he setttles in.

    Sabol’s a helluva backup C/utility guy.

On that Matos would-be deke, no replay angle convinces me that he could’ve caught the pop up. He certainly didn’t think so. But he pretended that he could and then expected the ball to bounce tamely toward him. Naive. Spin on the thing surprised him as it jumped away. Half a vet play. The failure in the IF to nail Pham after that really made the Giants look bad.

ESPN coverage in this game was pathetic, no wonder why their making a shit load of cuts recently.
Not to break down Matos complete brain fart evening, but 2 points need to be said about ESPN shitshow of coverage..
    1) Screwup early 3rd inning.. Bailey on 2nd base Matos on 1st a ball in the dirt heads up atleast a 3rd of the way towards first, Bailey sees it right away advances to 3rd but no camera was showing why Matos was still at 1st with his head in his ass.

    2) Later on Matos hits one past the 3rd basemen and it’s rolling towards the stands, I’m thinking double but all they showed was I believe McNeil going over to get it and again not one camera showing what Matos did running to help clarify that! Just terrible work all night long to go with an oblivious Network Crew that was all in for the Mets to prevail..imo
