Winning Time
This is a good way to re-start the break. Pittsburgh sucks, man. They started out ok but were destined to come back to earth. Rich Hill is supposedly going for them–that is, unless he dies of old age.
We should smoke these fools like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70’s……
Instead of making the drive tomorrow to Pitt we are going to see the AA Richmond Flying Squirrels playing in Harrisburg PA. We have not been there before but what is cool is the stadium sits on an island off their downtown. Pretty cool setup….Luciano should be playing.
GH, wouldn’t mind a report here on your take on Luciano after seeing him in person. The guy has been hyped like a Unicorn since SF signed him…
Of course. I usually send in my AA reports after games.
Still bummed the one night I was free in Mobile, Ala. to go to a game at Hank Aaron field, it got rained out. Cool little field.
After four days off, the Giants have two of this weekend’s games available only on Internet TV channels. More genius marketing of MLB.
Pirates do not hit very well. They are bottom 3 NL for runs hits HRs BA OB Slugging and OPS.
Giants have been good on road with +42 run differential, so maybe some of struggling hitters get going. In 4 fewer games Giants have scored 26 more runs than at the O and allowed 25 less.
Davis and Joc haven’t homered much in last month.
Joc has 1 HR in last 62 ABs. Davis had 1 all of June, and that HR vs. Rox was only one of July.
The BayBears!
Pittsburg hasn’t been very good for awhile but they always seem to play us tough. Strip is our probable starting pitcher so it’s hard to take anything for granted.
I agree with what James posted at 4:19 yesterday. I would also prefer the Giants signed Soto and not Ohtani.
Anchor Steam going down the drain just kills me. The last time I had one was back in 2019 when I was in the City to do a gig. Yep, breakfast at It’s Tops diner included a Steam.
I remember when Becks, Heinekin and Anchor Steam were the only “Imported” beers at the Stick. I think they took enough shit from people like me about it being imported from Pot Hill, that they changed imported to premium after a few years.
My nearby client never wanted to have lunch there. Otoh they wouldn’t spring for Zuni either.
30 years living in SF and that was my first time in the joint. Now Zuni is a whole different story, whenever I was on jury duty and we didn’t eat lunch in the jury room, Zunis.
Yeah, love Zuni’s.
I like it when it’s empty. Early or late lunch. There was a popular place in an alley behind the courthouse, can’t recall the name, that was similar. Great food. Crowded, it was all about people showing off. Local pols billionaires etc. After a successful early afternoon hearing, nearly empty, it was a great place to celebrate. Empty Zuni, also.
Yep, Giants have trouble with some of these bottom-feeder teams. Lost 2 of 3 to the Pirates in late May. Lost 2 of 3 to the Nats earlier in May. And then this long road trip ends with the one-off in Detroit, where the Giants lost first 2 to the Tigers back in April.
Webb had to shut Rox out to win that series.
If they add anything at deadline I hope it’s another bat…RH that can cover SS part time to give Craw a rest or one that can add some power to OF.
Anchor Steam man i love that beer 🍺 from the shape of the bottle to the really cool label which is an eye catcher.Still have some beer coasters with that cool design in orange/yellow and the bold blue anchor with twisted brown rope turning thru it with 2 types of barley/wheat plants outside the anchor. Its oval shape and above the anchor it boldly spells out “Anchor Steam Beer” in red banner that proudly spells out:”Made in San Francisco since 1896”
I’m told the distributers stopped selling it here on the Outer Banks awhile back, so I’m outta luck. If you find some kat, tip a bottle in my general direction. Cheers.
Pirates always play Gigantes tough, regardless of record. If SF takes 2 of 3 this weekend, I’d take that and get outta town before somebody says “wait a minute” for a second look. Hopefully, the SF hitting woes heading into the AS break will end…
Willed I’m with you for extra infield depth and I think SS Tim Anderson would add that extra depth.Yeah he’s having a bad season but for 4 straight seasons before this one he hit 2019 .335 2020 .322 2021 .308 2022 .301
He’s on the trade block for sure along with other Whitesox’s, he’s on a 1 year deal 14m? Club option of 13m? are a 1M buy out next season which the Whitesox’s will probably take. He’s still only 30 but even as a rental the rest of the year and Craw showing signs of age, fatigue now a hammy and Estrada out too added depth at SS with a veteran isn’t a bad move.
Re: the lede above:
Anyone remember the old commercial “Cigars, Cigarettes, Tiparillos?”
Apparently, somebody still makes ’em…
I used to buy Tiparillos now and then. I liked em they were smooth. I remember the commercial.
Sure do Snarkk..The original black&White in the 60’scommercial had a lady walking around in a club wearing a box around her shoulder saying :Cigars,Cigarettes,Tiparillos?”
They made a few but color version in the 70’s when they changed the version to :”Should a man offer a Tiparillo to a lady?”of course they were driving a hot car, and the lady was in a bikini 👙 are nice evening dress 👗 just can’t beat the original version though imo)
I used to smoke the 2 Tiparillo trial pack with the tip on them think it was the M brand( thought I would be cool 😎 with the chic’s lol)but they had a few other types. You use to be able to send away to NY I believe and they would send you some on a special promotion for free. But my smoke shop guy owner had them so he would just give them away to special friends, he also had 2 old school pinball machines in the back which always got to go there..
Still remember the days when the cocktail waitresses in Vegas (and South Shore) walked around with free packs of smokes.
We should, but we don’t always. I was pretty pissed when Colorado spanked us that first game last series.
All signed up to watch the game, what a pain in the ass.
Slush said Webb won’t pitch this weekend and Cobb needs extra day off to compensate for throwing lot of pitches (50) warming up before he came in. first weekend could be interesting.
Giants lit Hill up earlier in 14-4 W–9 hits 6 runs and HR at the O in 6 innings.
Career though he’s 8-3 against them with 2.73 ERA per cbs site.
Since early success, Pirates 21-40.
A 6-pitch 1st inning.
All the writers say one more winter in the weight room and that warning track power will go deep.
Anticipation!
Matos with another drive to the warning track and Casey with a total knucklehead AB after Hill throws a lot of garbage out of the zone on consecutive hitters.
Great Bailey throw.
The entire time I’ve been a fan, it always seemed like a major exception to the rule when an opposing base runner was thrown out. Even with Buster. This is different.
Best defensive catcher in baseball. Visit to Cinn next week.
Interesting stat on the screen showing probability of K’s, making an out,DP, RBI’s etc ..Lucky for Stripling the K’d at 4 is nice!
And then theirs Bailey on probability to steal 2B which is ZERO as he guns down another runner!
Teams should get the message you don’t run on him , such a great release time with an accurate throw and a 40% throw out rate is incredible..
It seems like a minor miracle that any one of those pitches Stripling throws squarely in the strike zone isn’t being clobbered. I’m still flinching.
These games just fly by…
Curse one player, the next has already made you look foolish.
WTF, Wilmer.
Stripling’s HR probability just took another hit..
Goddamn, Strip got screwed on a strike 3, and then a single.
Another preposterous missed strike call. And a veteran with an even more preposterous balk.
Vast majority of balk calls involve no motion that might, much less that actually does, deceive a base runner. Stripper slipped; no harm, but serious foul. Bullshit.
It’s pointless interview, split/shrunken screen time!
At least they’re not giving drones eye views of the park while the ball’s in play. Only in SF I guess.
Fucking Verlander walks the bases loaded and Cahna misplays a flyball. Dogs up 3-0.
How’d we take the lead back?
Matos single, Schmitt double, Craw RBI groundout.
Oh fuck. Sorry I asked.
Manaea about to give it back.
Got off of fucking Wave and everything has gone to shit. ATT Fiber optic is dogshit unless you are in the same room. They said we get a free pooster, but the installer said the modem is the booster. So now we have to buy boosters.
So our 1 Gb system is 20 Mb in our bedroom. Fucking joke. And now the main TV doesn’t get streameast anymore.
And we are hellbent on giving up every lead tonight.
Found the game on Apple TV. Jesus. TV is impossible now.
And the Love bomb comes in.
No hits yet. Throw it over the mound.
Pound these fucks.
There you go. bailey to the rescue. Good to see the Buccos fucking up as well.
Leave it to Maenea to screw up again!
Hey Chuck back in the old days late 70’s early 80’s I use to get a box of used playing cards from Harrah’s ( just hung around where they had an area they gave them away, think it was 12 decks in half blue half red in a white box that were discarded after using for like 6-8 hours before casino changed them out.
Nowdays they sell them at the gift shops only…
Can’t gun down Bailey!
.
My comment is awaiting moderation?
Yep. I had like 8 decks of used cards. They drilled a hole right through the middle of them. Mainly Harrahs, Harvey’s, and the Hyatt Incline. Didn’t go to North Shore much back in the day.
Matos!! Nice job
Damn. Tyler coulda been an all star.
Get someone up!
Never had a pitcher up that’s Kap but it worked out now Doval got the 9th should be fine up 2…
Getting tired of us getting plunked all the time. Doesn’t look like cracked ribs but who knows?
Yeah me too Chuck.. Doval could drill a Pirate with 100 plus but it’s not the right situation right now.
Man I thought Wisely had speed he can’t even beat out Bailey on a steal lol 😂
Hey Joe DP! Victory!
Hey now! Ballgame! Win 50 and AZ is losing 7-2 in the 8th.
Yes sir Komomo Joe game ending DP!!
Victory!!! Keep it up!!
And Bailey is AWESOME!!
Bailey better be getting some ROY consideration. He’s absolutely crushing. As a catcher. And a steal!
McCovey won it unanimously in 1959 and didn’t debut till 7/30…
Snakes only division team to lose after Rox beat Yanks at Coors.
Padres are going to be over 500 soon. They could still win the division with that roster.
Caught some of post game on radio, and Flemms guy was Wilmet for starting the rally with double on first pitch he saw. Good to see production up/down lineup.
