Stacking Wins
What an exciting game last night. When they were down 4-1 my mom, who knows very little about these things, said “well they’ll come back, they always seem to come back.” And sure enough they did. More than once.
I look at the Yankees in last place. Sad Diego floundering 10.5 games out. St. Louis doing the same. It’s just outrageous to see the Giants 13 games over .500 and but a game and a half out of first place.
7 consecutive wins. Incredible road record. 13 games over .500. Different heroes each night. Significant contributions from veterans and rookies.
And succeeding with only two established starters. Despite twin success last night, DeSclafani had another bad outing. Manaea and Stripling struggling too.
Unsong success story of Giants 2023 season is very deep bullpen. But sooner or later those arms may tire, especially Doval and his 2 saves in 5 hours last night. Zaidi needs to pluck 1 or 2 starters from non-contending teams by trade deadline.
yes. We need another reliable starter or two. This cobbled together bullpen bullshit isn’t going to last all Summer.
Yes it is–might not like “PB” but their pitching is one of tops in NL. Pen is fine.
what they need more than anything is another vet middle IF bat (preferably RH) to cover for Crawford Wisely Schmitt yada yada. Brisbee said this in TA, after referencing all the good things about the team, “…up the middle, though, the Giants are scuffling” and he refers to Estrada since April too.
per Crawford, he said “…he’s currently in the middle of one of the worst offensive seasons of his career.” Flemms said yesterday knee is bothering him again. Reinforcements, pls.
I don’t get why the Giants broadcast shows a closeup of the Reds doing their stupid comedy schtick in their dugout after they hit a home run. Giants fans don’t want to see it, and the Giants broadcast is under no obligation to show it. It’s tone deaf producing from the production team.
i don’t mind seeing it. It’s interesting to see what other players are doing with their celebrations.
I guess it’s entertainment for some kinda like some of the showboat end zone celebrations where the whole team gets into the act. I hate it especially when it’s the Niners.
One good thing is that it shows the Giants are above that dumb shit.
At least for now…
And not to be ultra picky, but I still would have liked to have seen a close up review of what Rogers did on that pick off move. Hunter isn’t a pitcher, but maybe he could have analyzed the move. I wanted to know how it isn’t a balk. Taylor starts his wind up and then stops, no balk. Other times a pitcher will barely flinch, and that’s a balk.
to me this is a balk although I admit to never understanding the balk rules. He’s obviously trying to deceive the runner by starting his motion to home. How is that not a balk?
Thanks for the video clip!
I guess he’s allowed to start the wind up and spin like that; but that’s way more “balky” than a pitcher barely flinching a little before starting his wind up, in my opinion. And the flinch gets the balk call.
what I read is he wasn’t making a move toward the plate, just starting his motion.
No move to the plate is the key. When he raises his left knee, it looks to me like it’s already leaning back, aiming at 2B.
I think if a pickoff throw follows a “flinch” like foul it should be a balk but with no throw any transitory deception is totally harmless and itshouldn’t be. But that’s not the rule.
I didn’t know he could throw overhand.
Isn’t that some form of deception?
And speaking of deception, I would be tempted to
penalize catchers who’ve taken this pitch framing way too far.
In hockey, you can get penalized for embellishing something
(usually a tripping call) to make it look like an infraction to the referee.
In baseball, you can do whatever you want to make the ump look stupid.
It’s encouraged and supported by all kinds of technology.
What a shit job…
I thought the key reason for calling a balk is to prevent the pitcher from deceiving the runner. That move looked pretty deceptive to me, but I think the main thing there was he didn’t make a move towards the plate before turning right to make the throw to 2b. But, I think the whole balk thing is ludicrous. Agreed, whenever a balk is called, unless the move is an accidental misstep or something, you can rarely figure out where the “deception” move was — there’s nothing there…
I cringe every time I see him pitch.
Anybody else lost the “edit” capability? I noticed this all of a sudden yesterday. And now, I’m required to log in every time I make a post.
i’ll send you an invite to be an editor again, maybe it kicked you out for some reason
Thanks
Snarkk can you send me a different email address than your Google one? It’s not letting me send it to the Google one, it says you’re already an editor
Will do
Me too.
Bailey is 6-41. No one thought he’d continue to hit like he was, but BA has dropped 50 points from .324 to .270. He is the everyday C and doing wonders, joy to watch behind plate.
But combined with Wisely Schmitt other rooks and Crawford in lineup I think Giants are short a stick, and another rook from AAA won’t help.
Annual ump training for upper LL levels–big field, regular baserunning rules etc–always ended with a showing of the balk dvd. Couple dozen pitcher moves–balk or no balk for each. Slo mo explanations. It was a comedy.
The rooks are leading all other teams in RBI’s with 106? they have a dynamic group of veterans and rookies that are getting the job done. But adding a RH bat for the infield would be a nice extra add, maybe SS Tim Anderson who along with many White Sox’s are on the trade block, along with Cardinals (Arenado would sure be special would he be available now?)? Cubs Bellinger ( long ties with Z&K)seems to have found his stroke and a plus OF defender
Still another starter like Stroman has to be on their bucket list..
They’re still going to get reinforcements back with Brebbia &Jackson so this outstanding BP seems fine to me.
Sabol 1-10 on road trip with 7 Ks. He’s struck out 80 times already in less than 250 plate appearances, for over 30% rate. Really like potential as hitter with some pop, but…
Like Bailey, who has 3 % walk rate, 5 total in 167 plate appearances and 28% K rate w 47 so far, league will adjust and make life more difficult for them. Don’t see Bart being much help either.
game time last night was 3:30 — not bad for so much action. AZ 16-13 whipping of ATL only required 3:05.
At this point I have more faith in Stripchat. DeScaffolding is just lazy sliders getting blasted out of the yard. Maybe he’s rusty. Like Junis. And Manaea.
We just have so many wobbly guys in the pen and the rotation. I don’t see how we don’t get pitching help. It’ll cost Bart and maybe Villar but I don;t care at this point. Bart should get us something reasonable.
Cobb and Webb. That’s it. I don’t know what Bart brings but it probably isn’t much. He sucks.
Yeah, but that doesn’t preclude some team (Boston?) from taking a shot. They don’t have much going on at the catcher position.
The 2023 edition is what the 2021 would have been had Posey, Belt, and Crawford played closer to their career numbers. The extravagance of the 107 wins allowed the season to be dismissed as a “fluke” in the wake of 2022. I’ve said it before: The Zaidi/Kapler regime’s reputation would probably be in better shape if they’d won ninety instead of 107 in 2021. I’m satisfied, even while screaming at the TV as JD Davis misses consecutive meatballs down the heart of the plate.
O’s lit up Urias for 8 runs in 5 innings. They’ve got Opie on IL, no Buehler, wasted $$ on Thor and mess of a pen. the kid they started yesterday, Grove, has an ERA of 6.40.
competition for starting pitching worth a dang will be massive for Stroman or others. Keep filling in set up guys if anything.
Villar in starting lineup???
Craw to IL.
rest my case/get some ML middle IF help.
I’ll take Villar to knock one out of that toy park tonight…
Not sure what the big red dildo the Reds swing around then they hit a home runs is all about, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
I mean, it’s pretty retarded to be dancing around the dugout with a dipshit helmet on when you are down 8-1.
I get having fun and baseball could use a shitload of lightening up, but those forced celebrations are weak sauce.
Embarrassing. 1b and 3b no outs, Villar and Wisely can’t put a ball in play.
Tracking on Gameday, was that 3-2 to Wisely really that far inside? Crazy.
Way out of the strike zone, but the runner on first running may have made him over-aggressive there.
It seemed like an odd decision to send the runner.
It was almost like an old fashioned hit and run fuck up but does that seem possible with wisely at the plate? He strikes out 30% of his PAs.
Early in his career, Stripling’s ticket to the big leagues was a dynamic swing-and-miss breaking ball. Where’s that pitch been nowadays? Without that pitch, he’s just a tomato can.
Ask Barry Zito…
Key to the game: stripper must go deep. That’s not what we meant, stripmine.
Fuck. Perfect throw from Matos and wisely misses the evasive swim move.
I’m surprised the term “suicide squeeze” hasn’t fallen victim to whoever decides what’s insensitive. I give it less than a year…
Looked safe to me on the replay…
ah, had a shot there as Reds SP put 3 guys on by himself.
3 ground balls from Joc tonight, yuck.
And here we go. 3 rd look is charm.
The Justified sequel series has started, Justified: City Primeval. Raylan is back, in his cowboy hat, taking on criminals.
Yeah but he’s not in Kentucky this time is he? My gun expert and Damascus steel knife making friend there loved Justified. I liked it. We don’t talk about Trump.
Yeah, the new series is set in Detroit.
Old Elmore Leonard territory. Faithful commitment to his vision of multicultural American character and conflict, not to mention vernacular, made Justified good. I try to read C McCarthy but find myself thinking about Faulkner instead. Leonard is much less ambitious but probably more authentic.
Than McCarthy
Yeah, I read Leonard a ton back in the day. Starting with Mr. Majestyk. Fun stuff. Even the good guys are bad. And not nearly as dark and depressing as McCarthy. But I like ’em both.
Just saw the movie In the Electric Mist with the Confederate Dead. Great book by James Lee Burke. Kinda in the middle between Leonard’s goofiness and McCarthy’s seriousness. Read a few of his books.
We need power-hitting from Matos at some point.
One of those frustrating games where it was highly winnable.
Streak is over. Only saw the 9th, was there no one available to hit for Villar? He can’t be hitting down a run in that bandbox.
Only used 2 pitchers today as Strip went 6, so set up with Cobb for day game tomorrow. One bad inning, 10 groundballs 0 BBs. Faced 22 hitters gave up 4 hits.
retired last 11 guys he faced.
Did his job.
Sabol stroked another one. At least there’s that.
I hoping when we make the playoffs we hold the record for fewest rbi’s with the bases loaded in the history of playoff teams. Good start for Strips. Maybe a good omen. Bullpen was up in the 4th. Good for kap for sending him back out!
Another immaculate grid.
This game was made for us.
50000X better than the jail sentence Wordle
Like I said earlier, I have more faith in Stripsearch than DeScaffolding now. Maybe he’s rusty, but even before the hammy, he wasn’t sharp.
Power from Matos? Nope. He may start slapping doubles around, but he’s no 20 HR guy.
They didn’t toss Votto? Fuck that.
need to get some fucking runs.
We are running out of bodies, and Schmitt is doing little to nothing.
Tater time for Slater.
Got to say, the umping this whole roadie has been flat dog shit.
Fuck. Close.
