Early game!
LF) A. Slater (R)
1B) W. Flores (R)
RF) M. Yastrzemski (L)
C) P. Bailey (S)
CF) Luis Matos (R)
DH) Joc Pederson (L)
3B) David Villar (R)
SS) C. Schmitt (R)
2B) Brett Wisely (L)
P) Alex Cobb (R)
A lineup with 5 rookie or near-rookie players.
If you like defense, it’s a pretty good lineup…
Bailey nails Elly!!!
Mr. Ed playing first like Keith Hernandez…
We are running out of IFers and Schmitt is doing nothing. ONE XBH since June 12.
Thairo absence hurts a lot…
Bottom of order guys killing Giants.
Exactly.
Slider that stay in the zone a no no at this yard.
If you liek offense, not so much . . .
Wisely .192
VIllar .155
Schmitt .221 (.094 in July)
Haven’t the Reds only stolen the 1 bag the entire series?
Oh good. Now Wilbur’s hurt?
And idiot 3B coach sends him to certain death…
There you go. Didn’t see that coming 2 miles away.
Matos did drive one over the LF’s head.
But Wilbur was just doubled over at 1st base, and he’s slow as fuck anyway.
Ballgame.
Maybe not a good send there.
Not even a good throw, to 1b side of the plate.
Our third base coach flubbed. There’s no way Flores was going to score from first on a double to left field.
Yeah, and we ain’t coming back in this one.
The Reds are a good team. They weren’t going to look weak all series.
Wow. When shit goes south it goes SOUTH.
Halberg sent Flores because he knows this lineup is challenged for hits. Hoping for a bad throw and didn’t get it. I don’t really blame him for waiving him in…
He really has been excellent all year…
Still and all. with Pederson up, I’d take the chance with Joc.
Huh. 2 consecutive tag-outs at home. Never seen that before. Weird fucking game.
Can we GET any offense?
That was either a smart play by Wisely or dumb one by the runner. Think the Kiddie Corp has a puncher’s chance of coming back here.
Story of this game is all this shit. Can’t buy a break.
Really don’t understand what Joc was doing there. Guy’s fastball is at 93…he gets one up and away he could drive it out to here to LF.
Well, a home run does little. Getting on base is getting the pitcher out of his windup.
At least it’ll be over before you guys have lunch…
Yeah, lunch today for me is leftover pizza and cold watermelon. A good lunch, IMO.
Jeez, what a crap job from Cobb.
Now it’s Webb and head to the head..
Votto got Baileyed.
Not impossible, but a comeback with this weak hitting LU is a long shot…
One hit wonders.
I’m having a hard time now remembering when Schmitt was good.
Leaving Cincy with a split isn’t so bad we have looked pretty good overall.
Good point. Next 6 are 3 at Nats, 1 at Tigers and 2 at home vs. A’s.
Agree. Won 8 of the last 11 games, with 5 wins out of 7 on the road (if we lose today). Not too shabby.
On the upside, the Giants have sole possession of 2nd place…for a few more minutes
Wilmet sends parting shot to Reds.
Lose 3- of 4 to these guys and the beginning of this road trip will feel like a distant memory
Casey at the bat:
May – .325 16 RBI 16 k’s
June – .140 5 RBI 18 k’s
July – .086 1 RBI 9 k’s
The mighty Casey has struck out.
Ouch
No joy in Mudville…
Huh, don’t remember seeing this anywhere even in SF Chron, but Ed Bressoud died at age 91.
Was giants SS when they first moved here and played for Giants through 1961 season. Wound up in NL Expansion draft, eventually winding up in Boston. Hit pretty well there for 4 seasons and was then dealt to Cards where he finished career on WS winning 1967 team, and got into couple games defensively.
Bressoud had a knack for hitting 3 run homers for the Mets.
I remember Lindsey Nelson saying that he had 6 of em that year…
Giants have to get a Starting pitcher maybe 2?
But I would like to see what package the Giants could do to get both. Stroman&Bellinger.
Strotman is like Webb a ground ball specialist and it shows giving up only 6HR’s in 118 innings and an ERA at 2.86… Bellinger has obviously figured his stroke out his BA .311 his K’d are way down and is fire in July 18-37 and still a plus OF with a great arm.
Another guy they should look at is Orioles Ramon Urias who can play all 4 infield position even has a GG on his resume he’s a solid player..
Balt ain’t dealing
“was then dealt to Cards where he finished career on WS winning 1967 team,”
Coincidentally on the Mets broadcast today, Ron Darling was talking about being a 7 year old Red Sox fan during the ‘67 season. The Red Sox lost to the Cards, but Darling grew up as a very devoted fan. He has a lot of memories of that ‘67 season.
Baltimore playing to a .611 clip.
I saw a thing that the current AL East standings are the exact opposite of the size of the teams’ payrolls.
Bummer loss. getting old how most of our lineup can’t hit
I think the Giants might be a bad team with a good record…
This Nats series will tell a tale.
An article in FanGraphs about the uniqueness of Giants’ pitching, but I found the article to be very technical and hard to read, like a lot of FanGraphs’ articles.

Once again the team is hurt and tired. Lots of brutal roadies this year.
