Big Flavor And The SNOHEHO Tribe
I realized yesterday that I have more in common with the SNOHEHO Indian than I realized. The SNOHEHO wanders the earth cursing the white man for stealing his land. I walk the earth cursing Farhan for stealing my hopes at a 2023 post season run. We are not that different, he and I…..
And yet there is one difference. My anger and regret isn’t as strong and entrenched as it is with the SNOHEHO tribe. In fact, despite Farhan’s shocking display of indifference at the deadline, he actually built a team that wins more than it’s fair share of games. And they never give up. I gotta give a nod to Gabe for that. He must play a role in keeping those guys positive and focused on the task at hand.
While there may be no hope for the SNOHEHO as their fate was sealed many years ago, I am not giving up on this season.
We still have a chance, however slim it may be……
Last night’s win epitomized never give up attitude of team all year. To rally from 3-0 deficit against opposing team’s ace was great.
But when AJ Pollock is only addition at trade deadline while wild card competition is refortifying rosters (Reds, Phillies, D’backs, Brewers, Marlins, etc.) is disappointing. Relieved Farhan didn’t mortgage future by trading top young talent but hard to fathom that Giant brass couldn’t package some deal to obtain starting pitcher.
DeSclafani’s injury cried out for Jack Flaherty trade. Perhaps Giant front office confident that Harrison/Whisenhunt ready for promotion in August. Either that or we’re back to Webb/Cobb and three openers every five days.
Bingo. The O’s gave up their 16th and 18th ranked draft picks.
Squadoosh.
lol . . . To be precise Flav, he’s won 352 and lost 301, since arriving in 2019. Not bad considering the “SNOHEHO Tribe” (Giants/fans) were in the wilderness wandering the Earth for what seemed like forever.
By the by, great post! I laughed my ass off this morning.
Whoops! Make that 353-301 won-lost record after yesterday’s win.
Me too!
This is who we have and how we roll from there. With Estrada Yaz (hopefully soon) and Haniger due back, hard to figure who would have helped out. Slush said Brebbia could be back by Aug. 18.
As Baggs in TA put it (in response to blogger): “Name a hitter who changed teams who would have made a measurable improvement to the lineup.”
Given all the statcast data that teams get these days that floods analytics depts., they know far more than public does about how players perform offensively and defensively and pitching. Every pitch, every ball in play, how they move once it’s in play yada yada. Keith Law talked about this in 2017 in “Smart Baseball” and it’s even more true now imo.
Yeah, it’s incredible the amount of stats now available for every player in the league and minor leagues also. There has to be a whole industry behind it. I guess if you’re going to sit behind a computer for most of the day you might as well get paid for it.
Hard to figure we NEED a starting pitcher?
Also Bags said Luciano back at Sac to work on playing 2b.
I know it’s a overused phrase “Team Chemistry” but the Giants organization has it and always have the way they build their teams. When even Stripling is laughing about a postgame interview with the goofballs on Sunday Funday he’s mentioning, techno music blazing, smoke machines, and a used car sales blowup streamer they have in the corner of the clubhouse.Lots of teams for sure don’t have that kind of mojo going on..
I still wanted to add Jack Flaherty cause he’s a good pitcher on a shit Cardinals team with no chemistry but maybe Z&K and especially Wade( didn’t they have a stare down in StLouis over nothing?)probably felt he wouldn’t be a great fit in the locker room..
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m also starting to come around with the HR machines of Stripling&Manaea who I cringed every time I saw them come in.But Stripling has found something after battling injuries and he could be a much needed starter now.And Manaea has been flat out dominating of late only giving up 1 bomb since May 18th( coincidence with Mr.Baseball the immortal Patrick Bailey arrival?) and his K’sare way up walks are down and his WHIP 1.01 he’s rolling in the long relief role which best suits him..
Yeah Winder,I think they have a stat now where they can anticipate the exact moment when a player needs to take a dump are just a piss..
Patrick Bailey’s pop time throw to 1B was 1.39 the fastest successful pickoff throw according to Stat Cast since 2015 which wasn’t successful..
Bailey thought for sure Perdomo was getting ready to steal and made eye contact with Lamont Wade prior to the pitch.Just a fantastic play and for sure for Wade who hit the game winning Homer in his last AB..
Grand jury indicts ex Prez for sedition, slash of the country’s credit rating tanks markets, Farhan nabs only two negative WAR guys — yet yesterday turned out ok.
Good to see EmptyG and Co willingly driving the country off a cliff for their own personal benefit. Who votes for these ass-clowns?
Time to move to Belize.
This guy and his inbred relatives.
Hillbillies don’t command very many electoral votes. True: one of my cousins went to dental school at UKY and then moved back to the hills becz he saw the need. Ever lil bit helps I spose. He did well, too.

A’s hit 3 HRs off Dodgers newly acquired Lance Lynn last night.
Unfortunately their pitchers walked more guys (9) in 8 innings than they struck out (8). Also hit a guy with bases loaded.
Gave up bases loaded double that scored all 3 runners to the annoying Kike Hernandez.
Haniger and Kike. Can’t get in trouble with those names . . .
But I digress.
The Flaherty trade pisses me off because the O’s gave up very little to get him. Mr. Aggressive was really burning the wires . . . pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.
Flaherty’s whip has been terrible since he injured his shoulder last year. As Blade noted, who knows what more truly pertinent info Farhan has.
Just say no to rentals and start Beck. guy is headcase too. DeJong I could see for iF depth, rental SPs no.
Overheard in the bunker:

A funny one of those could be fashioned casting Hitler as Farhan.
Sorry it’s not up to your high standards. There’s a meme generator, have at it.
I had trouble synching up with the dialoguge.
Farhan can’t be Hitler because he doesn’t have dictatorial power. That’s the whole point.
This was inspired by Big Flavor’s post today and the comments on Baggarly’s column last night
What about Baer? Can’t he agree to swallow Verlander’s salary? Where the hell is Baer?
Baer’s been busy with the surprise Cobb-Webb bobblehead, mein Farhan.
Bobblehead! Bobblehead! Are we running a fucking toy store here? Fucking bobblehead.
I originally had Baer in the room, next to Yogi, but couldn’t think of anyone else in the front office. I put Slusser, Baggs, and Brisbee instead, hoping for a retweet. Thought about name dropping Big Flavor, but it’s too inside.
Needed a “deplorable malcontents” line, but Hitler can’t be the one saying it.
They wanted Luciano and Harrison.
What did you propose?
Bart, Ramos, Villar, Wisely and Hjelle.
And they weren’t interested? They didn’t want to talk to me about it?
They laughed and hung up.
I like the structure of the cultural elite cowering before, yet resisting the fulminations of the corrupt, fascistic masses on behalf of enlightened capital.
Yogi that was fantastic, thanks for the laugh.
Yogi that was a fantastic video I’m still cracking up 🤣!! That should get an Oscar for a short film editing tirade ..
I felt like Hitler all day yesterday waiting for the trade that never happened ,and ranting and yelling the F word alot! This video made my day thanks!
Good Giants use of that clip from “Downfall” — it’s been used many times for a laugh like that. Bruno Ganz, a Swiss-born actor, played Hitler. Hands down the best Hitler is most peoples’ comment on his filling that role.
2004 called, soad. They want their video back.
Cobb-Webb bobblehead? Sounds like a winner. Larry may have a spot for you in the front office, Xoot.
Or maybe even horror night. Remember The Thing with Two Heads? Classic.
James predicted a Rogers bobblehead. I foresee Diane Arbus like eeriness. Could be a collector’s item.
Grabbing sandwich at sports bar Garret in Campell, watched Braves smoke Angels 12-5. These guys are so done…Seattle won today so they are 4th in AL West, and trail every team in AL East for WC. cbs site lists top prospects traded at deadline and sure enough one of Angels is at top of list.
so, likely endgame of deadline strategy is:
they miss playoffs
lose Ohtani
lose rental pitchers Giolito and Lopez
prospects playing for another team
Giolito went 3.2 innings 8 hits 9 earned runs 3 walks 3 HRs.
extremely weird they went for it at the break. Were they just doing that to try to woo Ohtani to stay?
Yes, sure you are right.
Hey saw something on PBS about Bend–has one highest amount of craft breweries per capita. Big thing there?
yeah, craft breweries are a big thing in Oregon in general
Only for 35 years…
Oregon has a bench warrant on me unless they expire at some point.
Like I don’t have enough problems…
Much batting power to the Giants from Powdered Toast Man:

Webb looked hittable in the first inning.
Just becz he got hit like hell?
Credit the D-Backs for not missing the meatballs.
Wade Jr. OB at .398. 5th NL behind only Arraez Soto Acuna and Freeman.
Wade jr. salary: $1.38 million.
Krukow revives the quality start stat. Maybe it wasn’t his idea.
Giants facing a rookie pitcher in his first start. Can be dicey for the Giants, historically.
That pop up pitch to Wade was a 92.5 mph four seamer right over the middle of the plate thigh high.
Matos came into the game with an OPS of .678 and one HR in about 145 ABs.
Drove in first run last night with double off Gallen and then scored when Crawford homered.
Each of his last 3 ABs he’s laid off 2 pitches outside the zone. Small steps, but improvement.
An airbnb commercial is using the b-52’s “Rock Lobster.”
Ford is using CCR’s Up Around the Bend
Wilmer gets the first hit. Whew.
Isan Diaz now 0-15 but hey he has a walk for a .067 OBP!Hello Conner Joe..
But I’ll say one thing he can pick it in the field, he’s been outstanding with the leather..
Oy, LA got 3 in first off A’s then 4 more in second. 7-0. 3 game series at Latrine so one more tomorrow.
Webb is in his groove now.
Can it be? Diaz RBI single ties it!
The banning of the shift seems to have proliferated the number of up the middle DPs the Giants hit into.
good point. Vs. LH the SS is still right up the middle behind the bag.
Vs. RH that’s where 2b is.
Who would even think of that?
Nice to be tied, but that was a frustrating inning.
Need a 4th single to get Wilmer home.
Oh boy. The dreaded bases loaded, no one out scene.
Hey now!!
Lighting up D Bax pen.
Or a JD double, Giants take the lead!
I don’t get why they didn’t PH Schmitt are Pollack for Diaz against the Lefty their?
Good question.
It seemed like it would be the classic Kapler move.
safety squeeze toward 1b I thought was an idea.
Nice to have the lead, but that was a frustrating inning.
For sure. Is it possible to get less than 2 runs with a triple, a double, and 6 singles combined in 2 innings?
104 pitches for Webb. 7 complete faced 24 batters 4 hits (3 singles) 1 BB. Ace getting job done.
Just read where Vin Scully died. He’s the only Dodger I ever liked RIP.
A few years ago. Yeah, he was great. Better on radio than TV, IMO. As a kid, I had a radio that could pull in fuzzy broadcasts of Dodger games from some station down South. Lon Simmons for Giants games on the radio, and Scully to hear how our rivals were doing.
So few games on TV in those days, of course.
I remember being in Ketchum Idaho when I was a kid and could get Giants games on the radio.
You 2 should collaborate on his obituary…
BTW he died a year ago, Winder…
Fucking Krukow got all sentimental early about Grateful Dead night — “that’s a great bunch of folks, tremendous fun” — and now gets all school marmish — he’s going to jail and he won’t like it– about one of those fun loving fans running around the field. If you’re not gonna televise the pursuit (which judging from crowd noise seemed lively) spare us the psa.
Kinda pointless not showing shit when it’ll get posted on Youtube in about 5 minutes.
If you’re a morally upstanding school marmish person you won’t look at that posting.
Victory! Total shutout of the Snakes after the 1st inning.
Nice clean inning ends D Bax night
Victory Baby!!
Keep knocking the Dbax back!
No help of course from the pathetic A’s as Dogpile is crushing them 9-1..
Good game. It’s only nine o’clock.
Yeah quick game and that’s even with a streaker who was off the pitch clock..
YES!!!
Unrelated to Giants, but… how does Billy Beane still have a job?
Is he still the A’s GM? I didn’t know that.
The owners probably are grateful he doesn’t complain in public about the payroll.
Yeah, only in the movie, I guess….
P/A I believe Billy Beane is now a senior managing partner after 34 years as the GM but is still a minority owner of the team. The new GM is David Forst..
Oh, thanks AK, I hadn’t heard that nor have I even heard of David Forst. Sorry, my bad…
I read an article that said Taylor Swift paid out $55 million in total bonus money to all the employees of her concert tour. That was an incredibly cool thing to do.
$55 million is more than some MLB teams’ payroll.
Ralph Kramden got a skinny chicken…
In a neighborhood dive tonight talking to a guy I know who bets on everything possible.
He knew nothing about Webb or Duval and thought Belt was still a Giant.
Didn’t surprise me none…
