Falling Apart
Conforto bomb, Ramos bomb, both nice but not enough to overcome the unraveling of Cobb. And it’s wild to me that Wood still gets to pitch. Like, ever. He’s the worst.
Win today and avoid the sweep at home.

Football season!
yeah! Chuck, do we keep all 3 of our QBs on roster or does 1 of them go to practice squad? And why is Brandon Allen even getting a sniff? We got 3 legit guys right?
I think when the season starts for real we will carry 3 QB’s on game day and Allen goes to the practice squad.
I don’t know what it’s gonna take to bring a spark to the Giants. Maybe we can hold on to a final playoff spot. But I doubt it.
Seems like the Giants batters are just tired. At this rate if strike outs, stranded base runners and inability to bunt will doom the Giants from the post season.
Ramos also taking a walk and hitting another ball hard to the right side. He didn’t look immediately ready to be “figured out.”
Lack of reliever intensity may have contributed a bit to last night’s impressive HR, but not to that screaming double he hit off closer Smith Friday. He’s ferocious.
In spite of everything, still clinging to the second wild card spot at the moment.
Hope Webb can help salvage one today. Rangers and Boch rep lot of things different from SF in their approach, aggressive FO and great hitting team that combine to bring lot of ire from Giants fans in blogosphere. Lot to like over there. Good luck to Boch’s boys, once they leave town.
If they can stash Allen on the PS, they will. The Niners have a hard time keeping their QBs upright, so They’ll want 4. Funny, watching the preseason games, most every team had an ex-Niner QB on it. Sudfeld, Mullens, The Beater, Jimmy G, Josh Johnson, on and on. I expected to see Nate Davis out there.
I really wish they would have paid more attention to the O line. They did very little. Shanny thinks he can turn shit to gold there.
Not like we’re playing stiffs. Rangers on pace for most victories in franchise history, e.g., they’ve won 10 of 11 games on this recent run. All the credit to Boch and his crew.
No, but their pitcher yesterday had a gaudy 4.19 ERA. Heaney sucks. Boch did make a nice move to pull him when he struggled, and it paid off in spades. But until we can score more than 2-3 runs a game, we will continue to drop like a rock.
Baggarly suggests today that Bochy planned to use Heaney as an opener to exploit the extreme RH lineup Kap would set against him. Burying sole LH Conforto in the 7th spot eg. As it worked, Craw and Wade got shelved, Joc and Sabol barely got shots.
Heaney? He pitched 1.1 innings yesterday. Heaney saw the end to his career-best 15 2/3-inning scoreless streak and was done after 1 1/3 innings. Bochy said he hadn’t felt well in Oakland this past week and didn’t have a regular preparation schedule for the outing. We actually scored a run off of Heaney, so I am sort of mystified what you are talking about unc???
Bochy also acknowledged that he planned to pull Heaney early. The crud was the excuse. Baggarly looked closely at that fact. Why trot him out there at all if he’s not going to try to go deep? Nobody outside the Rangers knew about the illness because it hit after his last start.
Donnie Ecker turned the Giants from bottom of the league hitters in 2019 something like .697 OBP to a lead leading .967 in 2021 .This guy is a brilliant hitting coach now bench coach /offensive coordinator and was pivotal on Bochy’s staff hiring the new hitting coach Hyer?
Anyway he knows the Rangers have a young and talented team and I think he has roots in Texas so it was a no brainer when the GM called if he would be interested in leavening the Giants, and now their on top of mostly all offensive categories, coincidence? Don’t think so Ecker is that good..imo
Yep, i agree Kat.
I think Blade is right at 10:16, Texas is really good hitting team, tops in tough AL in multiple categories. After couple .500 months in June/July they are taking off again in August, while Giants surely are not right now.
Meanwhile Kap’s lineup has combo of slumping vets (signs of life out of Conforto lately though) platoon guys and rooks.
Looking at parts of position player roster for Rangers, lot of pieces from elsewhere that have turned into gold for them.
Seager and Semien of course signed to long term FA deals. Semien is owed $125 mi for 5 more years beyond this one
C Jonah Heim came from Tampa to Oakland and was traded for Elvis Andrus before 2021 season. The backup M Garver was on Twins, had great 2019 and 2021 and was acquired for IKF.
1b N Lowe was another Tampa draftee traded away for 3 minor leaguers.
Adolis Garcia was originally signed by STL and dfa’d in 2019 when Rangers picked him up.
Easy to go into Bochy schooled Kap mode but Texas lighting up Cobb for 9 hits (and 16 overall) and 6 runs is what decided the game. Bochy waited to take Heaney out until after he K’d Mathias (hitting RH). Conforto did homer off the guy they brought in, but Giants couldn’t add on vs. Stratton while Rangers kept hitting and scoring off Wood.
As Baggarly pointed out, after Mathias Slater faced the righty replacement with runners on first and second and grounded into a DP to end the inning. Looks like Bochy planned to have Heaney survive once through the LU.
Meanwhile, Texas piled it on. True.
Kap showed “faith” in Slater by not going with Wade. Even though Slater failed, it’ll pay off later in the season. Just like Boch would have done!
One can layer any bit of nonsense you want on top of the events.
I think Baggarly peeled back some layers.
I should read the article. He previously pandered to the Bochy vs. Kapler stuff. He knows better.
Cubs and Marlins losing, Reds already lost first of 2 to Pirates. Chance to create some more distance before Rays come in for 3 tomorrow.
Another bomb at home from Conforto who creates some distance over the CF fence.
I don’t even care if they win today, just want to see a standard issue 3 run rally again.
Davis as pathetic as BB9 at his worst. Maybe he should have toned down the bat flip against the Sox.
I think Flemming the other night traced Davis’s slump back to the ankle sprain he suffered in June.
Davis’s BA for June was .282. July .180.
“great recovery” oh man.
Letting Dunning drop a dozen K’s on us is probably the most pathetic thing this offense has done all season.
Yep.
There’s that great Thairo swing.
The man of the moment …
Will Kap leave him in too long or fall prey to the “analytics”?
Kap wants to get back to the normal opener/pen rotation. Webb almost gave him what he wanted. So close.
Yeah, that was unfortunate.
Dang
Could craw have seen where runner was?
He certainly saw the runner go.
Wonder how that close double to CF would’ve played out if Ramos had still been out there?
These speculations are truly sad ….
Webb was pissed off he should of been allowed to finish it off..
I’d like to see his arm on a play like that.
And his bat against Chapman. Wow.
Ha the hanger does Wil Smith in!
Bailey has been tough RH.
14
WOW, POW BAILEY!
Wow no way in hell did i expect that!
Bazooka Bailey walk off Bomb!!3-2 winner chicken dinner!!
Nice win!
Breathing life into a corpse, indeed.
Bailey catches a Webb gem and then picks up his closer.
And guns down another runner.
The deplorable malcontents and Kapler haters don’t deserve this, but the team does.
Make the playoffs or not, this season has been so compelling. These ARE the playoffs, every day feels like game seven. We’re blessed if we do, blessed if we don’t.
What if I’m only malcontented and deplorable?
If that had hit the stupid fucking car I woulda been furious.
LOL i was listening on the radio but just saw the replay, yeah, that woulda been a bitch–much like Trey Lance in the pocket, Chuck wtf is wrong with him?
Beat ’em Bailey! My god, that would’ve been a crushing loss.
Speaking of “Webb Gem” (xoot above) . . . Matos entered the game as a defensive replacement in the 8th inning and made an outstanding diving catch to rob Corey Seager of a hit. Still shocked the Gmen won this game after striking out a season high 17 times. Unfreakingbelievable. Sure did look like Texas was going to continue to be the “anointed one” and sweep us.
Didn’t he misread the ball and step back before sprinting forward to make the diving catch? I still think he has trouble judging plays in front of him, even on the bases.
yeah that’s what I thought– late break and then lost balance a step before the catch.
shouldn’t have been that hard as he made it look.
Don’t know – just saw the catch (I was talking with someone when the catch occurred).
Heliot didn’t get much action out there before Kap moved him to LF. I recall some river cat tweets with video of him making great plays. If LF’s better, fine. I don’t think he should be headed back to Sac anytime soon. But, Yaz ….
Good to see someone on the Giants rock Will Smith.
Baggs in TA noted Bochy kept contact minimal before first game, only chatting up Wotus. Bailey butted in for hand shake and Bochy told him he’d seen him playing A ball in Spokane vs. Rangers affiliate. Had nothing but good things to say about him.
Great baseball minds eh, even about A ball kids.
Big win! Losing after that Webb gem would have been tough.
Lance was supposed to be looking better with improved mechanics. True he was under duress, but he looked the same to me.
For Bay Area sports fans….Bart, Wiseman, Lance may collectively been the worst group of draft busts to ever all go the the same cities teams at the same time ever!
Bochy quotes from shea’s column in Chron from before Game 1 of series:
“Nice player. Impressive with the progress he’s made. I was telling him I’d seen him last year in Spokane, where I watched our A ball team. He’s done a terrific job for them.
They’ve got a good one there.”
Craw said after game that in hindsight he wished he’d thrown home instead of first, where he thought he could get the batter.
