Thank God
I can’t remember a time recently where one swing of the bat changed the collective mood of so many Giants fans. This was headed towards one of the worst home series sweeps of all time. Heading into that at bat SF was 1 for 24 with runners in scoring position in the series. That “1” of course was by Bailey who thankfully provided #2. Outside of Patty Bails it was complete and utter failure this weekend with runners in scoring position.
It was fun to see Boch again. He looks happy and healthy.
Driving home from vacation yesterday and caught game on Sirius. If you haven’t heard Dave Flemming’s call of Patty Bails’ homer on KNBR, recommend listening to it. In real time I’m under impression it’s either line drive double and tie game or foul ball down left field line. I’m waiting for fair/foul call when Flemming yells home run. Game over.
Agree with Flavor. To lose yesterday with runner scoring from 2nd on two-out infield hit in 9th and balk in 10th would have been mind-numbing. But 2-25 with runners in scoring position over wknd and overall anemic offense troubling.
Not to worry. We have “Undecided” starting each game vs Rays. Must have tireless arm to pitch three straight days.
Un has had good year. Think Giants have won 15 of his starts and Friday was good one too, holding Rangers to 2 runs.
Didn’t even turn on the game till the top of the 10th. I didn’t realize till later how awful the 9th inning was. That loss would have been fairly soul-crushing, as Webb was one out away from another CG win.
I get bringing Doval in but 1 more batter? Give him the shot to finish it.
Thing about the Crawfish play is it was right in front of him. I know, woulda, coulda, shoulda . . . but the home run was pretty fucking cool. I was dead certain it was gonna hit the stupid Chevron car and not be a home run.
And, lordy. 17 strikeouts. Teams seem to have caught on to the fact we try to work the counts and now simply pound the zone and get ahead 0-1, 0-2.
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise
If I don’t stand my own ground, how can I find my way out of this maze?
Got to close this home stand strong. The Dogs are running away now that they are healthying up.
Glasnow starting, I don’t think the K rate is going to slow down tonight.
This kind of personal stuff does make me happy: “ Posey and his family are in the process of moving from suburban Atlanta back to the Bay Area. As Posey explained, it took a year away for the family to realize the Bay Area had become the place that truly felt like home. It’s where both their sets of twins were born. So they loaded up the moving truck last week.”
I would have given Webb one more batter he cruised the first 8 innings on 96 pitches that’s 12 per which is Greg Maddux efficiency who would have never been pulled out.
Damm managers are just way to pussies with all their analytical information BS.It still comes down to a hunch if your pitcher can still do the job!
Webb was pissed in the dugout after Doval choked his win pulling his sweatshirt on hard then heading to the clubhouse.
And what’s with Doval lately? he’s definitely losing it, he’s so smug he thinks he’s invincible and does his dumbshit things with pitch clock violations, are the catcher has to quickly call a TO to prevent one and clearly his Balk move which should of cost them the game without Bailey’s heroic walkoff, then Doval’s cussing Fuck You out the ump as he’s walking back to the dugout, uhh it was your own mistake dipshit not the ump on that call..
Yep. What you said.
I think you’d take a slow roller to short, if the gods of chance offered it up prior to the AB. Cursing the ump like that was pretty weird. Maybe it expressed a wider frustration with the dismal performance of the team overall. Still embarrassing.
Doval shouldn’t give a shit about the team’s performance. He should be worried about his mental lapses when the game is on the line. I’m sure that had a lot to do with his frustrations, but that would have been a hard loss to eat.
As far as pulling Webb goes, Bochy did this kind of stuff all the time. Doval should be able to get one fucking out without banging the collie.
A GIANT IF…Conforto has a six week hot streak. Davis hits at room temperature. Ramos boosts his extra base hit to strikeout ratio. Just one LH, Pederson, Yaz, or Sabol starts producing again. Luciano recovers. And it turns out Meckler can hit MLB pitching. This shitty offense might just be good enough make the postseason and win a series or two.
Wade Jr
Estrada
Wade “Boggs” Meckler
Flores
Conforto
Ramos
Bailey
Davis
Luciano
yep. If all that happens, I agree with you. One thing I do like about Ramos, small sample size, but he seems to have better at bats as the game moves on. I’d rather he hit better in the 8th and 9th innings anyway.
Who gets dfa’d to make room for Meckler? Matos has options, of course, so there’s a spot. Pollock’s return could easily be remedied with a release. But Yaz is about to return. Slater has the roster tenacity of a barnacle. No one wants to hope for an IL trip.
good points all. Meckler isn’t on 40 man either, so moving him up now creates another problem. Doubt that happens this season.
Yes. Meckler’s rise to a star in AAA after being drafted in the 8th round just last year astonishes me. He’s so new he won’t need to be on 40 for a couple of years to protect him against the rule 5 draft (if I understand those rules correctly). Seems it would take a dramatic disruption to force a mlb move now.
Matos will likely be sent down today.
Ironically, the players who are returning from injuries are problematic. To make room for Meckler on the 40 man roster, Pollock seems expendable. To make room on the 26 man roster, put Slater on the IL.
Luis Gonzalez might be too valuable to cut loose, but he’s rumored to be the player to be named later in the Pollock/Mathias trade.
Meckler is generating considerable heat right now. They might not wait until September.
Buster and fam moving back.
Seems they can handle moving better that Kris Bryant’s wife…
Glad Wander Franco won’t be making the trip to SF, dude has been on fire the last couple of weeks.
Ramos has been squaring up anyway. Unlike Slater, Joc, Wade, Davis, and everyone else not named Flores.
If I see another lazy fly ball I’ll scream.
Joc is doing his usual power outage thing as he hasn’t gone deep since 7/26. Crawfish is dead with 6 homers. Conforto has TWO after a month-long drought.
Yaz? Mr. Hammie is how far away from his return? Haniger?
Ramos also K’d 3 times yesterday, chasing high fastballs and one was Kc. If Yaz is ready to go wonder if Matos sticks or not. Brebbia I think might be back by road trip this weekend. Haniger taking BP apparently, so again maybe by end of week. Somebody beside Mathias on way out.
Ramos SOs next to solid SLG% or Matos ground balls next to low SLG%?
Loco..Wander Franco isn’t making the trip to SF cause MLB is investigating his social media posts and an alleged relationship with a minor supposedly 14 but Wander says she’s 18?OK?who along with her mother was trying to extort 200K and a Mercedes from him and he wouldn’t pay which makes sense. But he should of immediately reported this to MLB before it blew up on the internet. This could get real ugly..
Yep, and the investigation came at a great time for us.
I’d have brought Doval in sooner if Webb had put runner on base. Same if either Rogers bros had pitched 8th and let someone get on base. He’s still best they have. Webb has 8 more starts, no reason to extend him after giving up double and putting tying run in scoring position in 9th. He’d done his part and completing game is meaningless in big picture.
Btw Ohtani skipping next start due to arm fatigue. Only pitches once a week as part of 6 man rotation as is so now he won’t pitch til Aug 21-22 per mlb site.
Giants pitching including opener game held Texas to 2 runs each in first and last game. Props to Bochy for staying above fray of returning hero. It’s different time and fans need to move on. It isn’t about old school vs. analytics and he admitted that under Sabean they wanted all the info and data they could get their hands on. He said, “We didn’t just shoot from the hip.” And he and staff obviously use all that data and info now all these years later in 2023.
Crawford said Bochy was always prepared ahead of time.
I saw., over the winter maybe, an article on line about the Giants extensive use of analytics in the Bochy era.
That was a desperately needed win last night. Nice to see some fight still left. Maybe the needed spark.
Looks like Yaz will be activated for the Rays series who are going to start all RH pitchers,Slush talking about sending down Matos I disagree they should put Slater on the IL between his bad shoulder and hammie he’s been ineffective, simply “Ice Cold “0 for last 10 2 for last 2-28 .O71 with 19K’s in those 38 AB’s he’s just not healthy enough to play..
Speaking of hammy’s sounds like they might not have Luciano the rest of the year it’s atleast a month are longer with his so bring back Schmitt and send out Mathias who’s useless along with Pollock the duo of worthlessness Z deadline pickups..
Slater’s bad elbow and hamstring seemed healed when he came out of his rehab work in June. He hit well. That dropped off a bit last month and so far this month he’s been bad at the plate — but in 13 PA. Maybe he’s hurt again. If so, instant roster room. But he’s a versatile player Kap likes to use in CF and to PH etc. Meckler is still an absurdly long long shot even if Slater gets shelved. Fact: Slater was also an 8th round pick, back when Meckler was 14.
Meckler is still an absurdly long long shot
What did this pay off?
He hasn’t done Jack shit so far. I still think a payoff is a long shot.
Slater is constantly hurt…
So is Yaz this year.
Baggs tweet: “Hearing that the Giants have DFA’d outfielder Luis Gonzalez.”
So Seattle doesn’t want him. Surprise. Clearing a roster spot was one of their benefits in the Pollock trade.
Though this does leave a place on the 40 for Meckler. 😉
Or Tyler Fitzgerald who’s been hot in Sac and whose rule 5 exposure is sooner to arrive.
I’m going to the RCs game Weds. night, they’d better not call up Meckler or any of our other future all stars until I’ve had a chance to complete my scouting trip.
Hjelle Bart battery? Or Harrison?
Well they should make more roster moves on the 40 man roster!
Like why do they need Catcher Perez anymore?he’s out for the season ,when u have Bailey,Sabol&Bart? give him a injury settlement and open up another spot..
I have a feeling they know what they’re doing there. Bumping a couple of milb players up to 3/4 million per year before it’s necessary for rule 5 protection may be one consideration. Trade value down the road for players already on the 40 is probably another. And who tf knows what else. Remember the fat DR 1B who rode the 40 for a few years as part of the settlement of his breach of contract lawsuit?
Meckler looks like he belongs with the Garrelts/Pettini crew…
https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=meckle000wad
He’s about Pettini’s size. And at 23 no natural growth spurt seems likely.
Maybe Loo but he doesn’t belong with the Bowker gang.I like how the Giants keep advancing Meckler up the ladder( now at AAA) the dude can flat out hit with an incredible walks to K’s ratio at every level, along with OBP.He’s more of a doubles, triples guy but maybe the power for bombs comes in time.Great late rd fine , just let him continue to rake in AAA but even a Wade Boggs type hitter works for me. Does he eat chicken before every game as well?
LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
Wade Meckler (L) CF
Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
Joc Pederson (L) DH
Michael Conforto (L) RF
Patrick Bailey (S) C
Blake Sabol (L) LF
Brandon Crawford (L) SS
Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
P: Ryan Walker (R)
SI says Meckler has been called up.
Oh, so does DJLoo.
Angel Villalona xoot? Per this assessment, he’s the worst of “13” unlucky prospects that never worked out. Bowker was #5 on this list.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1648685-san-francisco-giants-unlucky-13-prospects-who-never-lived-up-to-the-hype
No doubt, Bart probably would have shoehorned his way onto this list (as this opinion piece is 10 years old).
Yeah. Villalona.
Giants tried to terminate his contract after the murder imbroglio in DR; he sued; they settled and he went on the 40 and never made it past San Jose. My younger son and I happened to see him play there. He looked like a fat child. Hit the ball hard a couple of times.
Thanks for that blade, I forgot about most of those guys
Yeah now that’s exciting to see!
Meckler’s Army has arrived and batting 2nd with his high contact rate!
Good spot against all RH pitching the Rays will start, let’s goooooo!!!
They picked up Camargo over the weekend, right? Frantic moves.
Off topic . . . Trump saying,”Maui fires would not have happened had I been President.”
No doubt he would have given them comparable, stellar (not) advice that he gave California during our wild fires a few years ago:
Rake your forests (jungles)!
This morning I picked up $34 seats, club level behind home. Can’t believe we’re going to witness the beginning of the Meckler era in person ….
Good seats.
You’re welcome Winder . . . Hey, how hot is it up there? I heard it’s upwards of 100 degrees where you live?
Why is Flores not in the line up?
Ear infection.
Thx
Ball Dude is wearing Casey Schmitt’s number, Guy gets no respect,
Meckler looked massively overmatched in AB #1…
We may strike out 25 times Tonight
Dave Fleming is the bat boy that’s hilarious, had to have lost a bet right?Any thing to shake up the team..
It’s like every team I see has 3-4 guys that have 20 home runs and we have one with15.
“Angel Villalona xoot? Per this assessment, he’s the worst of “13” unlucky prospects that never worked out.”
He did toss me a baseball; I’ll remember him for that. At a San Jose Giants game, I was sitting behind their dugout, pretty close to the on-deck circle, in the pre-extended screen days. Angel was in the on-deck circle, and the batter dribbled a foul ball right to him. As he picked up the ball, he glanced towards the seats. I was wearing a glove and raised it up. He tossed it right to me. I yelled “Thanks!” I always brought the glove for safety reasons, sitting so close.
And there’s no guarantee a player will toss a ball to you in a Single A game. Teams have limited budgets.
that’s a cool story.
That’s the baseball equivalent of Jeffrey Dahmer tossing you a leg…
Glasnow is pounding the zone.. we should be swinging first pitch
Camargo fitting right in as bottom of order picks up where it left off yesterday.
Worst 0-2 pitch in history…
Nice pick to follow Walker, Kap. Jesus.
here’s the problem with openers. It’s great when it works. But if you run 5-6 guys out there it’s highly likely that 1 or more won’t have their best stuff.
Another high drive out…
And it wasn’t even close.
We’re hitting so bad we’ve already lost tomorrow’s game.
Meckler’s family looks like a bundle of laughs…
Jesus Kuiper needs his eyes and ears checked out along with his vocal chords.Wade a High Drive that’s 4 feet from the warning track your killing me..
Progress no K’s that inning one for the game get Fleming an AB can’t be any worse..
11-1 in hits and it’s the 5th inning.
12-1.
Looking like another series that Giants will be lucky to get one, but no Webb to give them a chance.
And they continue with Beck unbelievable he’s trash 🗑️ tonight like are offense!
Ballgame I’ve seen enough of Kapler’s stupidity geez why have anyone warming up dickhead..
The Rays have more hits in this half- game than we have in August
This is on Farhan
12 hits in 4 innings it takes the Giants 4 games to do that….
Zzzzzzzz. Kuip isn’t even close.
Word is the key witness against Trump in Georgia will be Chief Noc-A-Homa…
God we suck. Who the fuck is Camaro?
Camargo back to the minors.
Think he’ll clear waivers?
Right at arozarena?
I’m done
The Giants almost reached the warning track a couple of times tonight.
According to Kuiper both those were HR’s..
The new guys killed a bunch of rallies tonight.
I wonder why Ramos didn’t PH for Meckler (or merkle, as kuip said it) vs the LH?
Crazy a team hitting the way the Giants were in the 1st have can be this bad for this long:(
Terrible game.
It was probably longer ago, but I feel like the last time I looked at the standings was just a week or so ago when Giants were 3 games behind LA. Eek… that went south fast. Still in the WC hunt but that whole WC group is clearly 2nd level this year…
Yaz aggravated his hamstring working out over the weekend. (He ran the bases.) No wonder they’re scrambling. It’s like the end of 2014 — one OF and one SP.
