Hopeful Beginning For Harry
Tough game. That’s only the 2nd time Doval has given up any runs in a game since July 3rd. And that stupid deflection was just bad luck. The loss didn’t sting me much as I have pretty much given up on the season. But it was great to see Harrison who looked legit to all eyes who saw him pitch.
Day game today vs this Lorenzen dude who has to have been one of the more unlikely no hitter pitchers in recent years.
Doval had gone 4 6 and 7 days btw outings (Giants wins) before pitching 2 days prior to last night vs. Braves in the game Giants won. that was the 5 out save where Bailey made errant throw that tied game.
Threw 29 pitches 17 for strikes, allowed only 1 BB 0 hits 3 Ks.
Contrast to last night when he didn’t K anyone, w HBP and 2 hits. Just didn’t have it.
Was following along boxscore and then when Sabol hit for Schmitt and Camargo came into game, said hey that’s 4 reserves (Slater and Matos for Joc and Conforto earlier), all Kap’s got. Never heard about Ramos move back to Sac Xoot mentioned.
The DeJong signing and the Ramos demotion deserved some discussion, but big K Kyle was the only story of the day. It’s prestidigitational PR. As you mentioned, Lincecum came up early in a doomed year. The jolt was a delight and his development a wonder. CY was on the horizon. Harrison’s start is vaguely similar, but too little too late. Playing meaningful games in August turns out to be brutal. Not being able to see Ramos get the shot he deserves adds to the pain. Both dumb PR and bad baseball. Imo.
Likely a double play if Doval does not deflect that ball. Harrison was great and his comparables to Lincecum with his first career start also against the Phillies were eerie. Two run homer and three Ks for both in their very first inning…Kyle just missed on three pitches to Schwarber for strike three so that would have been a nice start if he could have hit the zone ion any of the three and limits Harper’s damage.
The 4-3 loss yesterday got me thinking a bit (always a dangerous prospect). At their current 65-61 record, this is the approximate breakdown of the Giants win/loss tally when they score 3 or fewer runs per game and when they score 4 or more runs per game. Also a breakdown of win/loss tally when they allow 3 or fewer runs per game and when they allow 4 or more runs. Maybe this would be similar to other teams, I don’t know.
Scoring 3 or fewer runs: 11-44
Scoring 4 or more runs: 54-17
Allowing 3 or fewer runs: 44-11
Allowing 4 or more runs: 21-50
Interestingly, Giants are 6-9 when scoring exactly 3 runs, and 17-5 when scoring exactly 4 runs. Out of the 126 games played up until now, 43 of those games have seen the team score 4 or more runs while also allowing 3 or less, think that’s around 34% of all games (around 66% of the wins). Atlanta is at 38%, not much more than the Giants. LA is at something like 46%…
One time I got Twin immensely pissed off was when he said something like the Giants need to score 4.3 runs per game to be successful. I told him that was ridiculous because first of all, it’s impossible to score 4.3 runs in a game and secondly, what would their record be over a 10 game stretch if they scored 43 runs in one game and then got shut out over the next nine. He went slightly bananas from that. It didn’t take much…
that is stinking hilarious…43 runs in one game…he must have had a heart attack right then…
Gad, if Doval had held on there would have been W scoring 3 or fewer. Another tough L in game they could have won. Kapler mentioned Doval shaking off Bailey and not using slider enough, and Phils got hits off cutter and fastball.
Yeah but why do the Giants need Ramos who was smokin the ball when u have all world the master of disaster Wade Meckler in your LU everygame?
But hey all is not lost as The Man,The Myth,The Legend Paul DeJong comes into Philadelphia today to smash a couple of bombs and save the day.I’m actually looking forward to see another face new are old like peach fuzz Harrison yesterday,DeJong,DeBong, are DeBomb let’s get a freaking win today!!!
Kat– continued apologies to you for some of your posts going to spam. I can’t figure out why that’s happening. Maybe copy the long ones before you post so that if it doesn’t post you can try to re-post. It does seem that the longer ones go to spam, that could be part of it but that’s just a guess. I only check spam 1 x a week.
It’s a huge consolation for their bottom line.
Speaking of the Bottom Line any word from Stix?
All good BF no worries,, like the Giants stuck in an alternate universe time warp thus my spam joins them. I would somehow like them to snap out it today only cause it’s my birthday and I would rather celebrate it with a win, always makes your day better!
Have a good one😸😸!!!
Yeah let’s see W in Cobb start for Kat’s BD. Enjoy, man.
saw a lineup w DeJong at SS batting 8th but didn’t see corresponding move off roster…
Cheers, Kat, hope ya get to belly up to a birthday keg!
They still need to make room for DeJong on the 40 man, right? Do we get to say, look at that Camar Go?
Trading Places ref. Nice.
5 1/2 years into the Farhan regime, I must admit I expected more than this. Almost September and he’s dumpster diving for players instead of actually using serviceable minor leaguers for injury spots. The Ramos send out really perplexes me. If you’re using this season to give minor leaguers experience to hit the ground running next year, then do it. This summer offensive free fall is not a slump. It reflects the talent level of the roster mix 4 months into a long season. Farhan needs to be on the hot seat next season 6. These first 5 years is enough time to prepare and put your stamp on an organization, re-tool the minors, and get it consistently playing post-season caliber ball. The 107 win season anomaly was great, but it appears that’s what it was. I think even blade may chime in that next year is where the rubber meets the road. What say you, blade ? …
Correction, 4 1/2 years in…
Failure to sign even serviceable SPs over the winter was the worst mistake. Plenty of $$$ once Judge and Correa were gone. Haniger and Conforto were ok moves. Bad luck, but Ramos and Matos we’re rising. Failure to play them now is another bad error.
Yay!!!
Deck chairs…
You’re not wrong, but anything to let Camargo go.
wait till DeBomb blasts off, you’ll be singing a different tune
Now swap Meckler for Heliot on the home stand.
Yeah I’m with Snarkk They should have brought Ramos back and start him with Matos everyday! their the future so keep running them out there to get AB’s!I just don’t see the reason keeping K machine Meckler and do they really think he’s good in CF ?I don’t see that at all, over Matos,he must have animal photos of Kapler squealing like a pig 🐖 to not get sent back to Sac! Thanks for the Birthday wishes guys.
Harrison was pretty cool. A little bit wild, but electric stuff. That slider though. That needs some work.
Merkle is WAY over his head. And Ramos is hitting the ball hard. No fucking brainer.
If I have to see Merkle swing at another 0-2 ball in the dirt, I’ll scream. Then again, that’s part of Jack Schmitt’s game as well. Love the rookies playing, but can’t they identify a curveball?
Big K Kyle threw one change that dropped like a stone when it reached the plate. Swing over iirc. He also used to throw a sweeper. They’ll get him outfitted properly.
I was happy to see Harrison too. He’s gonna be a keeper and a real breath of fresh air for this team. I haven’t totally given up on these guys yet but I have lost a lot of interest. We are just so inconsistent that I don’t get my hopes up very often.
When Doval hit the forst guy he faced, I was instantly worried.
I also disagree with sending Ramos down. Kapler not wanting to use him to pinch hit over a struggling Slater I guess might have been a sign or maybe Gabe just didn’t want to answer that question again.
From what I’ve read, Zaidi is really gambling on Meckler even just by putting him on the 40 man a year or so before he’s Rule 5 eligible. Probably another reason why Kapler has been defending the kid so much, Baggs thinks that in doing so, he’s also defending the front office.
Yeah Kaplers subservient role here is telling. Tough guy huh?
this is lame, man.
And nothing to overreact about here in August.
Darnold has 55+ NFL starts compared to 4 or whatever for Lance. I can see it based on that. But, Darnold will probably leave next season, so Lance would be back somewhat at square one if he gets no playing time this year. Purdy’s evolution as a 7th rounder was a godsend, but does somewhat put big ?? marks into the QB room dynamics…
Mellissa Lockhart tweets that a Bay Area team hasn’t screwed up this badly drafting a QB since the A’s picked Kyler Murray.
Meckler starting in CF again, after Matos came off the bench yesterday to rip a 99 mph fastball into the RC gap. They messed up tremendously by moving Meckler up onto the 40 man after only ten aaa games. Z messed up. Harrison will give him cover only once every five games.
Wilmer! Get the ball in the air!
MR.ED is the Man!! Bomb #18 thank you!!
Matos was a golden boy, came up, and was gradually finding his sea legs at the plate after 40 games or whatever, though not so much in the OF defense. But, he’s learning. They sent him down due to his D, now he’s back up, and hit a jack the other day, and looks like his bat is coming around with more pop. I don’t get him sitting in back of Meckler. Other than Harrison, these recent moves are inexplicable…
I won’t sneeze at an HR, but they need to stop these solo shots. Get some men on bags ahead of the HRs. Hard to do when they K so much…
There ya go.
Cute Lexi dog shit story from Hunter. Jeeezus. Ohtani started his game today with a HR at the plate and strike outs on the rubber. But a few minutes ago the trainer led him off the mound.
And there we are, flav’s guy goes yard. another 2 out rally.
Never question the boss!
Welcome DeJong!
Extend Craws rehab.
Ah, do not question the mighty BF. 🙂
I’d rather see Ramos than Meckler in there, but to Meckler’s credit he’s contributing today.
DeJong already crushed his BlueJays stats lol 😂
Yeah they’re looking good for me on my Birthday!
BF is right again he will add some bombs 💣 funny Z didn’t have to do squat to get him ard paying zilch as well..
Yeah, but DeJong could have won us 3-4 games since the deadline what with Mathias and Camargo providing squadoosh.
No way he could have a 3 or 4 WAR after a month.
Lulz
Well, Mathias left about 15 men on base in his 3 games. Camaro the same.
Damn, missed DeJong bomb, BF right again.
The Niners would be foolish as all fuck to trade Lance. There’s short-sighted, and then there’s this move. Unless someone gives them a 2 and a 3, which seems HIGHLY unlikely, they should bide their time.
Then you have the front office dragging out the Bosa deal.
It’s like these stupid fucks want headline a la Jerry Jerkoff. These guys are pissing me off no end. Ignore the O line, and wonder why their QBs go down ALL THE TIME.
Fuck me sideways.
Great ballpark give-away item this Saturday, those SF Sea Lion jerseys.
DeJong, this year’s Scutaro?
Are maybe Cody Ross?
Damn. DeJong looks good so far.
Managers probably secretly hate when their pitchers throw a no-hitter. So many of those pitchers are lousy for awhile after the high pitch count.
Cobb should’ve been tossed toward the outhouse between innings. Jon M flagged trainer concern, too.
That Giuliani mugshot photo is an instant classic.
The RICO expert. You see the story about the Mar a Lago IT employee who ditched his Trump PAC paid lawyer for a fed PD and then changed his grand jury testimony? He lied when he said that trump et al did not order him to erase surveillance tapes showing spoliation of evidence
Nice to see DeBOMB already paying off as I knew he would. I guess Z getting him for free is a Z-coup?
Yeah he’s a brilliant coupon clipper.
also Chuck it would be nice to have you retract your “there is no chance the Niners trade Lance” as it appears that may now be in the works…….
Fuck the retraction. They are certified retarded imbeciles if they trade Lance. I never thought in a million years they’d be this stupid. Unless they get a 2 and a 3 for him. And I heavily heavily doubt that.
Shanahan and the Niners front office seemingly want to sabotage the season before it even starts. They are dragging their feet on Bosa, they did NOTHING about their weak offensive line, and now want to trade the massively popular (in the locker room) Trey Lance. If he gets traded at this point in the preseason, there will be a lot of pissed off guys in the locker room.
I never picked Jed for a headline chaser, but he’s doing very dumb things.
Maybe Shanny can cream in his jeans and trade for Cousins. I’m gonna be really fucking angry if they do this.
mm story in TA just popped about this. Column says they’ve been looking to trade him for awhile just waiting for acceptable offer. If they put Allen on practice squad that exposes him to waivers. “…having Purdy Darnold and Lance in same QB room seems to be what team wants.” per Matt Barrows.
David Lombardi said it’s more about floor of Lance/Darnold vs. potential ceiling.
Well, EVERYONE knows that the asking price will be peanuts for Lance. If they are really making this about keeping Allen off the taxi squad, they ARE retarded.
And Ralph Nadir Slater gets a hit!!!!
You know you’re on a run of luck when Crater Slater pops up a bloop double.
Speaking of stupid ideas, here comes Rotten Wood to fuck things up.
I could see dumbshit Shanahan trading Lance to the Vikings and after another year of Cousins failures he picks him up next year cause Shanny will never get off the bromance love boat for him.Gawd they sure fucked up handling the kid’s career and now u get no return at all for all the draft capital they gave up..
Man, I don’t even give a shit about the traded picks because they suck at drafting in round 1-3.
Here’s a breakdown of their draft picks in the Shanalynch era.
1st round pick starters – 2 – Bosa, Aiyuk (McGlinchey starting for Denver)
2nd round pick starters – 2 – Banks, Deebo
3rd round pick starters – 1 – Fred Warner
4th round pick starters – 2 – Burford, Wishnowski
5th round pick starters – 4 – Kittle, McKivitz, Greenlaw, Hufanga (honorable mention DJ Reed)
6th round pick starters – 1 – Mitchell
7th round pick starters – 1 – Purdy (honorable mention to Jauan Jennings and DJ Jones)
5 starters in rounds 1-3
8 starters 4-7
Jesus. Wood cutting time.
Somehow managed not to allow another run there as Rogers got out of it.
Shoulda got DeJong at the deadline.
12 hits for Giants today. In this ballpark more insurance runs wouldn’t hurt.
We’ve got to stop walking people.
I guess it’s the pen’s turn to lose games for us now that the hitting is coming around.
Here we go again.
Give it away!
hey man, i WANTED Trey to be the #2. But it became clear they were going to make Darnold the 2 and that leaves Trey in a place there’s no coming back from. If our analysis is that he sucks so bad he can’t even beat out Darnold then why would anyone give up shit for him? And while i do think he is going to get this with coaching and playing time, you ain’t developing shit as a #3 when you get no snaps in practice.
it became obvious that a trade was on the horizon when it became obvious Darnold was going to be the #2. Not NO CHANCE. A very good chance, actually.
I’m with you, I wish they hadn’t done this. But this is the route they’re going. Like I said, Purdy has saved their fucking asses by working out like this from the 7th round otherwise both Shanny and Lynch should be fired. Or, at least, whoever pushed hardest to do this Lance shit. I think that was Shanny but I’m not totally sure about that, maybe it was Lynch?
Whatevs. Shanahan is brain-dead for how he dealt with the whole thing from day one till now.
Shanahan’s analysis is wrong. He said he wouldn’t use Lance like Lamar Jackson and then runs him up the middle 3 times in the 1st quarter vs Seattle. It’s more like he wants to beat himself AND the player up when he makes a move for a player.
Shanny started Dante Pettis and River Cracraft over Brandon Aiyuk with the healthy Aiyuk in the dog house his 1st year.
Lynch is little more than a figurehead. He doesn’t make the calls on anything.
As I’ve said for going on 4 years, Shanahan is his own worst enemy. He regularly outsmarts himself into losses.
Dammit Doval your killing me!
6 blown saves out of whack wild now!
And now Harper up it’s not looking good !
There you go.
Damn,
I’m behind.. Jesus FUCKING CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy shit, Doval is still a goddamn headcase.
And there u go 3 run bomb!! Fuuuuckkk
Doval sucks balls right now he should have had Bailey call all his pitches then thinking he’s a prima donna!
Damm Meckler&Slater just saved their asses with great plays!
Shocked it’s going extras after a steal and wild pitch..
the Philly announcers are so fucking irritating to listen to
Did the runners even move? WTAF???
Fuck. I’d rather have merkle up and runners at 2nd and 3rd.
Happy Dejong day.
Yeah DeJong!
that’s my boy! And you guys didn’t want him. Tsk tsk.
look, dejong has some issues but stroking bombs and getting some timely hits isn’t one of them. He’s at least a professional hitter who is still young and not washed up like shitty Pollack or shittier Camargo
ok, another 3 run lead. Can it hold?
Lucky bastards. Merkle got there JUST in time.
He was hustling all the way even tho he could’ve trotted in. He plays as hard as Heliot. Lacks the power.
If he trotted in, the run doesn’t score.
That’s my point, Chuck.
I’m warming up quickly to Delong quickly he looked like toast in Toronto but he’s a NL hitter for sure!
exactly. Who gives a shit what he did in a short sample in the AL/Canada?
Wow- I don’t remember ever seeing that happen before.
yaha! my god what a strain.
I wasn’t a player in the game, and I’m exhausted.
Whew….
Phuck yeah, the 10th pitcher nails it down!
Happy birthday Kat!
10 pitchers for the win baby!! Crazy game!!
