Predictable Outcome
Well, again, this wasn’t a surprise. We have serviceable hitters but not enough to take down a guy like Strider. One thing about Wade/Estrada/Flores/Pederson/Sabol/Davis/Dejong/Meckler/Matos: While there’s something to like about each of them, there isn’t one of them a pitcher fears. There’s no Acuna or Harper or Ohtani or any number of other feared hitters in the league.
We get by with our boring collection of batters who sometimes do enough to get the job done.
This is the team Farhan built. I don’t see much changing in the future.
Strider is really something to watch though. fastball at 97 he can spot up or down in or out, and that killer slider with couple changes mixed in (hope Mr. Doval is taking note). Everyone except Davis and Meck struck out last night, Sabol 3 times. Giants only hit couple balls hard all night, liner to RF Acuna ran down and Joc’s triple on hanging slider.
Heard few minutes of Baggs on KNBR yesterday and he said something interesting. Given the way Giants run openers/fill in guys behind them, he thought pressure is all on Webb and Cobb to go deep as possible so as not to wear out everyone else that will have to pitch in other games.
Webb only last 5.1 and gave up all 5 runs. Wood deserves credit for filling in behind him and saving everyone else, something I’m sure he doesn’t like doing.
He faced 13 batters and gave up only 1 hit/1 BB 0 runs.
Giants won game Fried started in ATL 4-3. Knocked him out in 6th, 9 hits 3 runs 2 HRs, by Matos (!) and Flores. By contrast, Giants outhit Braves 10-6, who only scored 1 unearned run after 2nd inning, and went hitless over final 3. 3 shutout innings from Beck, and Braves reliever Yates imploded in 9th as Doval held them off after Bailey throwing error. 4 different Giants had 2 hits, Flores Estrada J. D. and Matos.
.
You really can’t compare Braves lineup to anyone else. They are tops NL for runs hits HRs BA and all 3 slash lines. No other team hits like they do.
Sometimes you get more recognition for the things you didn’t do than the things you did…
yep. That’s why art gets more expensive after the artist dies
I wouldn’t have thought of that one.
In Z’s case it’s not spending big on questionable FAs while keeping the team
competitive with scrap heap dudes and some youngsters I guess…
there’s a pretty low ceiling with that approach
low ceiling? 2021 says hi. Best season ever since 2014.
Gausman, Jake McGee, the Bore Core, Late Night, Donny barrels on and on.
Kap and Z even got best 2 months of his career out of GD.
He added “superstar” Kris Bryant and thank heavens didn’t give him stupid money like Rox.
That 107 was a direct result of Posey having a near MVP year, tons of guys having a career year and a SHITLOAD of luck. Come on, you know this man. Don’t homer-up every single time. Be objective once in a while.
Objective, ay. Like you said about Chuck, I’ll admit you are consistent when it comes to dooming up Kap and Zaidi led Giants, as in “I have pretty much given up on this season” and you don’t like any of the hitters on entire team that’s in middle of wild card hunt.
2021 was hella fun without superstars and lot of excitement. If that’s what you need so be it. Most Giants fans I see in blogosphere look at this year’s team lot differently.
Loo who’s winning the Travers today? I don’t see any value to be there. Also, can you remember Saratoga ever seeing more rain in a meet?
Yep, certainly no value in the top 2 choices.
Might stick with the derby winner – just hope its not the Repole crew who I can’t stand.
Haven’t been able to follow closely but it’s been a rainy August downstate…
Dog days of Summer caught up with this team, they look worn out when you have to use 10 pitchers in 10 innings to get your last win and get a rare luxury of a dayoff and still look “burned out” back at home does not bode well down the stretch run.
And one guy I think takes the scapegoat role after the season is hitting coach Justin Viele as this team offense (if u can even call it that) has nosedived since Donnie Ecker moved on to the Rangers in a very shrewd move by Bochy putting his staff together imo.
The trio of Davis/Conforto/Haniger has underwhelmed.
Umpire scorecards says that ump with the “tight” zone that terrorized Kruk last night effed up only twice, both very close webb pitches, one in his favor one not, neither crucial to the AB. The guys zone was robot like.
Ramos, Slater, Matos in the OF today.
Already an adventure for Matos in RF.
Gotta think Yaz would’ve played that LD off the wall better.
Bob Barker RIP . . . This cracked me up when I saw it years ago.
Looks like the openers due for relief after getting thru the top of the order once.
Oh shit horse on the lead fell at Saratoga
That is unfuckinbelievable.
Glad I missed it…
Fried feared Heliot.
And Flores ties it up
Wilmet!
Man I love Mr.Ed without him they would have been dead along time without his clutch hitting!
Diggin those uni’s bigtime! Classic old school style with that cub logo way better then those orange ice cream vendors but they seem to work when they use them.Heard they’re working on an upgrade uni for next year..
Crater Slater.
Fried went after Heliot that last AB and the kid didn’t hit it as hard as he usually does. But he didn’t look as over matched as did Slater.
Well, next AB Fried broke him down.
Braves are an offensive machine.
Gyros need Timmy, Bum and Cain …
Incredible to me that no one’s taken a flyer on Bum for peanuts…
Maybe some have, and he’s not interested?
He should rest his arm/shoulder, then strengthen in the off season to try a last comeback next Spring. That’s would I’d do were I him, and wanted still to compete. He still gets the $14 million due in his last year (2024) of his deal with DBacks, although apparently a good chunk of his entire 5 year deal is deferred until 2025-27…

Three straight line shots into the OF for Braves vs. Junis.
Now his wheels are coming off.
How often do the Giants hit three straight shots like that?…
I saw Ramos flipping the ball lightly to the IF on earlier plays and wondered about it. Too casual That was a dumb moment to be casual. Maybe the Braves knew he was susceptible to the deke. Maybe Rosario always does that. Either way, bad habit that needs to end.
Ramos deked from shallow OF position into dumb throw to cutoff that cost a run.
Now a wild pitch.
Giants falling apart.
Slowly sinking in the West. The chasm between them and a top team like Atlanta is Grand Canyonesque.
Just play the rookies and get them reps the next 5 weeks so they have some experience heading into 2024.
That’s what this stretch run is about now…
Never!
Wow Rosario just deked Ramos bigtime and scored easily. Giants can’t compete with the Braves and added FUBAR defense just makes way to easy for the Braves
Just the usual lay down like dogs effort by the Giants again..
A quiet, efficient, ho-hum dispatching by the Braves…
Whatever the Braves are doing as an organization, the Giants should mirror it. Braves big club has some players just a little older, as young as, or even younger than Giants rookies. And, they are way better. Why is that? — Giants need to figure it out…
SF has lost the last 7 straight series.
Conforto onto IL with 2nd degree hammy, likely out for season.
Swirling the bowl.
Just play the rookies, and take the punishment with hope for next year…
After the 2013 season, Atlanta went into tear-down rebuild mode, and had three seasons in a row of 90+ losses. Fans of the team were livid
The franchise used their high draft picks pretty well, added a few free agents, and completed the rebuild eventually.
A lot of teams just aren’t going to be willing to do that type of tear-down rebuild.
The guy running the rebuild for Atlanta got fired in the middle of the rebuild. He was eventually proven right when Atlanta won the World Series, but it was kind of small consolation for him.
Hopefully we get one. Frustrating that we have most of our top prospects up and they are not very good so far. Hopefully Harrison will be the exception
For the hitters they don’t seem to recognize pitches well. Not good. I keep expecting a flash of brilliance at least once in a while, but so far zip.
