Needed Win
Ok, I didn’t get much done yesterday other than watch the game and get wordle in 3. I get migraines, not as many as when i was younger but at least a couple a year. And when one of them hits that day is OVER for me.
Maybe this was just one of my many symptoms but it seemed like the ESPN broadcast was off by like a tenth of a second–like you’d hear the ball get hit just before it actually did get hit. Anyone else notice that?
If we could get 3-4 stud innings out of Beck, to me, that’s how an opener should work. I know it seems like the same thing if you have him go 1 and then bring in “Manaeain’t” for 3-4 but it’s not. If you START with 3-4 out of an opener that gives Kap more flexibility as the game goes on. And as the year progresses and these arms continue to tire you are really playing with fire to keep running 5-6 pitchers out there every game. One of them (or more) is not gonna have their stuff that day.

I get allergy related migraines and those suck so glad feeing better. I appreciate your comment Flav re once you get in playoffs anything can happen. I never took you Flav for a glass half full kind of guy. I’m definitely not.
Was a good win but if we ever got into the playoffs with the Braves we legitimately have no shot. They have what we call an actual pitching rotation…their 1-4 hitters with Acuna Harris Reilly Olson (now that Harris has moved into it after an ice cold start of the season) is arguably as good as any 1-4 in baseball. They have 2 mvp candidates out of those four hitters. They have a Cy Young candidate and solid bullpen. I behave no shot. Sure getting in as a wild card and these last five weeks of baseball will give us something to watch m between our fantasy football weeks…
This is pretty cool:
https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/mlb/san-francisco-giants/thairo-estrada-powerful-team-message/1651065/?amp=1
The only vet that could lead the team is Crawford and he like Belt and Posey before him were never vocal leaders like Hunter Pence. So it is very cool to see Estrada step up. The vets they have in JD Davis Conforto and Haniger are all new so hard to play the role of leader. Flores also does not seem very vocal as a team leader. They obviously needed this pep speech and obviously need to take this series against the Reds.
Agree about Crawford. Also, a big negative for him this season is of course, his sub par performance. Wondering if earlier this month was the last we have seen of Craw on the field in a Giants uniform, as he is on IL right now? Don’t know.
I’m sure they will have him hobble out there for last home game at minimum.
Nope. You’ll see him again.
Didn’t realize it, but Mariners have taken over first in AL West, as Boch’s Rangers have lost 9 of their last 10. More ammo for Ohtani sweepstakes?
Reds are 9-15 in August and dropped 3 of 4 to AZ. Giants split with them earlier in 4 game series, so taking 2 of 3 here is important. 2 LHPs going first 2 games.
Baggs reported Estrada team meeting story in TA, good one. Definitely was difference maker yesterday too with bunt rbi and fine defense.
Agree, more innings for Beck pls. If Harrison can finish strong, going into next year that’s 4 SPs
What is up Flappers. Hope all is well for all ya all. I’m gonna try to get on here more often. Miss you guys.
I’ve got a new pup who takes up many of the day’s cycles. It’s like fricking raising kids again. 😂
Time to put up or shut up. Start winking series now or it’s clear we’re not a post season team.
Let’s Roll, Gigantes!
Coolio. I’m not able to post as much as well. But good seeing you and Blade on here. We have two new kittens who have taken to sleeping on top of oldest kid’s (Jackson if you remember him) mattress sitting in our hallway after he moved his shit back home Sat after his lease expires and after telling him 20 times to store it in the basement
Been thinking about getting a cat for the last couple of years, but fearful that it means no more travel, dating, etc., where a cat will be like an iron ball and chain around my neck. I have owned 2 dogs and loved both, but each was 15 years of commitment taking care of them. Also, anyone know what is the best remedy for preventing cats from tearing up your furniture??? Out.
As I said to the wife as long as I don’t have to take care of the kittens or dog for that matter have at it. So she got these two female kittens who were just 8 weeks old and was good for the two of them to have the other kitten. They were teeny. We have only had dogs before and current hound dog mix is gentle with them and knew he would be pretty laid back. We had to put down an older happy dog earlier in spring who would not have been down with the kittens. We did get a vaca in without the kittens but one of our older kids was still in the house and had a neighbor girl help out as well. So I’m sure you probably can get a neighbor kid who may be good. Lot easier than leaving a dog behind for a sitter.
Thanks GH. What about your furniture?
They’ve been pretty good so far because have not really developed their claws yet but also with two high schoolers still in the house and after having the older three in and out, we have not worried about the finer end of furniture to worry about it.
Awesome.
Loo comment about Bobby Bonds in 73 was spot on. And he had help, from young guys Matthews Maddox in OF, Mac hit 29 HRs, Kong had 24 off bench, Bryant’s one off 24 Ws and Barr was solid SP, Moffitt helped close games…and they finished 3rd NL, 11 games back of Big Red Machine and 2nd place dodgers. And of course A’s were romping everyone for 3 straight.
By next season Giants lost 90 games and were 30 behind Dodgers.
During Mays McCovey Marichal (and Cepeda) era when I was just getting into baseball Giants won 1 pennant entire 60s decade. Every NL team had legit superstar HOF guys, but mostly Dodgers and Cards won til Mets in 69. Reds won once in 1961, Pirates in 1960, Cubs Phils Braves Houston never despite players like Frank Robinson Clemente Aaron Mathews Banks Williams Santo and Dick (Richie then) Allen Jimmy Wynn and Cedeno. You have to have team/get breaks.
1-3-4-2. Crazy double play kept 5th inning from unraveling.
5-10 record after grueling 15 game run against 1st/2nd Place teams. Similar pattern of losing all five series but salvaging final game. That won’t be good enough in next 10 game stretch vs wild card competition. Need to win series especially vs Reds & Cubs.
Sense Giants may have one more run in them. But think season long excessive use of bullpen, reliance on 3 openers every 5 days and inconsistent bats is catching up to them. If 87-75 threshold to make playoffs, can Giants go 20-12? I wouldn’t wager mortgage let alone car loan on that.
Welcome back Chi! Maybe you’ll be out good luck charm for the stretch drive
Thanks, Flav. I do think about you guys and this site, often. I’ve met some really cool people here (both left and right coasters – in person).
Been texting with Dennis lately. I’ll have to tell him to drag his ass ok here, too.
Cats are much easier than dogs. Cats you can put a feeder and water contraption out that last for days, and the cats will never miss you.
Dogs are much more work, but I’ll take a dog all day, every day, and twice on Sundays over a cat (I’ve owned both).
Blade – the way to keep the car from tearing up your furniture? Don’t get one. 😂
Yeah, the ESPN broadcast had sound/sync issues. It seemed to me they did eventually get it corrected later in the game.
The bigger problem for me with the ESPN baseball broadcasts is I find Cone’s and Edgar’s voices kind of annoying. Their voices kind of grate on me.
I will give ESPN credit for making the in-game interviews quick. A couple of questions and, boom, they were over. If we’re going to be stuck with those stupid game-interrupting things, at least it’s nice if they’re quickly over.
cats being able to take care of themselves is one of the reasons I prefer them over dogs. Dogs are great, but they’re too fucking needy. LOL. I like moderate level of attention from animals i don’t want to deal with that shit all day long.
Regarding Bobby Bonds, I know his alcohol problems were a big issue; but I can’t help but wonder if he had been appreciated more by MLB, and not constantly ripped on about the strikeouts, maybe his alcohol intake would have been less. Maybe he would have been a happier person.
The year he struck out 189 times, which, at the time, was seen as absurd, freakish, and completely unacceptable, he had about 750 plate appearances (!), had 200 hits, had great numbers for his on-base and OPS, and played great defense.
But mostly what the media wanted to talk about was the 189 strike outs. At least that’s the way I remember it, anyway.
Nice to see you here, Chi…
Back at ya, Tom.
Welcome back, Chi!
Thanks, Loo. Glad you’re here.
Thairo showed some elite execution on that odd DP where he smartly backed up 1B and on that perfect safety squeeze bunt. Coming after his passionate speech in the locker room, gotta think his teammates were inspired.
Absolutely. It’s one thing to inspire with words but then he backed it up on the field
AZ in Latrine tonight w LA starting one of their rookie SPs, Bobby Miller.
Giants take a couple from Cincy might be able to retake that WC spot they just lost. Reds on back end of 10 game road trip after dropping 3 of 4 to DBax.
Slater w couple 2 hit games lately; game Giants won at Philly and yesterday when he was 2-3 with 2 BBs scored twice and drove in run. Offense had 8 hits 8 runs 6 BBs in 8 innings off Braves lefty starter and righty pen guy that followed. Reds going w 2 LH SPs Monday-Tuesday.
TJ for Gonsolin…
Austin Slater (R) CF
Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
Wilmer Flores (R) DH
J.D. Davis (R) 1B
Patrick Bailey (S) C
Paul DeJong (R) SS
Heliot Ramos (R) LF
Casey Schmitt (R) 3B
Luis Matos (R) RF
P: Kyle Harrison (L)
Remember this song…when I lived in Wyoming you’d hear this song at every party you went to…
wow. Game time and there might not be 12k people in the park
Nice start for Kyle. Kyle with a K.
Chance for DeJong to do something.
Since big game, 0-12 with 5 Ks.
Bases loaded hex again.
Wasted opportunity.
Wild pitch hitting the ump’s leg cost the Giants a run, but there’s nothing the ump could have done. The ball was on him too quickly.
this is so fun to watch. This is like when Timmy or Bum showed up.
5 out of the first 6 batters and an ump that could of given him 6 yeah K Kyle has special stuff!
it’s just so obvious his ball is electric. These guys know what’s coming and they’re still late.
Bailey stole that strike out of thin air, way outside the zone. What a talent. K finally gives up a hit. No big thing. His pitch count is ok.
doubt they let him go more than 80
Randy Moffitt’s sister being honored at US Open tonight.
how old is that lady and what did you do to get that honor?
79. Ceremony for 50th anniversary of US Open being first to have equal prize money for men and women, which she was big part of.
how bout that? Patty Bails backspinning a curve ball off the right field wall. Power.
.500 slugging and 4 (of 6) HRs vs. LHP. Stung that one.
Nice job by DeJong.
Put Beck as a starter along with this kid, and the other two, and you have a decent rotation…
yeah like that a lot.
wow slider working to perfection.
KKKKKKKKKYLE!
Moffitt sister is Billy Jean King she’s won her share of tennis titles and ranked 1 She’s in her 70’s and has a percentage of the Dodgers I believe now..
Man is Harrison exciting. 1 more inning. A shame they coddled him so much and didn’t let him build up his pitch count before getting here. Go Giants!
In Athletic ( Brisbee ) put in an article that in his 1st start his swing and miss % the highest in MLB. Now 2 starts and he is so good so far!
Will’s drunk here right? I still agree with him
He’s wrong, drunk or sober. It’s been proven over and over again for many years that OB pct is the single most important individual factor when it comes to scoring runs, which is the object of the offense.
This goes all the way back to managers like Earl Weaver (and even before him), who valued hitters that made fewer outs, of which your team only gets 27.
Get the third out and call it a good night.
10K!
when i said DeJong had some holes in his game, well, we are seeing them right now
Crapamando that is classic Will Clark who’s definitely pounded a few down but who cares he’s right! Jeff Kent had the same approach as Will at contract time.”The Money 💰 Lies with the RBI’s”
Alright Harrison coming out for the 6th and why not 10 K’s the kid is dealing, and very smart the Giants held him back a day, no reason to face the Braves and destroy his confidence when the Reds are a better matchup!
All beef hooked. Looks like he’s not tired.
Kap;er is an idiot. No way he should still be out there. Organizational stupidity they kept his pitch count low all year and now they exceed it. makes no sense
Disagree. I think he was fine.
Well, Will was a very talented player and, like a lot of very talented players, he has a hard time understanding what other players have to do to stay in the major leagues.
What a fucking dominant outing by Kyle. Kid has moxie. He’s gonna be fun to watch over the years.
And I have no issue with them trotting him out there for the 6th.
Kap’s on fire. He hits for Ramos with Joc and he singles, gets moved into scoring position with sac bunt, and Meckler (who hit for slater once RHP came in) doubles him in.
Platoons work!
I’m amazed he’s still in there. His offspeed stuff was a lot better tonight than it was last week. Uh oh. Double ripped into the corner.
No reason to not let Harrison go Mrsprtdude he’s dealing and his pitch count is still good 11 K’s no walks . Man is Goober such a dumbshit he had Meckler looking foolish then feeds him a 0-2 FB? Down the pipe for an RBI..
Alright ‘pen, don’t fuck this up for the kid.
Wow what a Great outing Kyle u showed tremendous talent and Kap let him go was nice..
Matos!
Matos says no.
91 pitches??? Likely 30 more than his previous high.
Get over it brother. I think the staff knows how to handle him better than any of us.
Webb pitched a year before they ley him throw that many. Trust me I’m old school, but in this case if they were going to let him throw that many they shouldn’t have held him in the 60’s all year.
Fair point. He did get hurt though (hamstring?) and had to get back in the groove or he would have been throwing more pitches per outing and been up sooner.
Hey btw nice seeing u on here again Chi! Hope everything good with you and the family..
Thanks, Kat. As I was explaining related, I’ve got a new pup and she takes a lot of my time. But going to try to get back on regularly.
That Reds guy got so hosed by the ump, lulz!
Matos mph 97.7.

1st win for Harrison!
Dogs beat AZ 7-4. Cubs lost earlier too. all good.
