Tough Ending
And with that, his reign is over. Totally unnecessary to do it with 3 games to go. Everything I have seen and read indicate the players were, for the most part, cool with Kapler. The only reason to bounce him with 3 games left is to scapegoat him. Either that or show that players that you recognize Gabe was terrible and this is a small token of acknowledgment of that. But again, he wasn’t terrible. He was doing the best he could with what he had. Farhan was trying to deflect, trying to save his own skin.
Pathetic.
Don’t get me wrong. I heard Zaidi’s words. He said this was on him. Said he was gonna look at everything. But those were just words. The action was to can a guy for no reason. This could easily have happened a week from now.
Well, today is Gary’s memorial. I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
Playing Out The String
Yesterday’s interview on KNBR was fascinating. I advise you all to go listen to it. Farhan took a lot of blame for this year’s failure. He even said “we are going to look at everything.” Heading into year 6 that’s not the thing you want your visionary to be saying. And as Xoot and I have noted, he’s just blabbering away words that sound good that he thinks the boardroom will want to hear.
The only thing that can save Z at this point is if we have minor leaguers who can come up and actually play to their respectable ranking. He’s very likely going to get 1 more year to see if that can happen. I don’t mind if Kap comes back. You need your GM and manager on the same page and those 2 definitely are, at least, on that.
Extra Inning Loss
I didn’t watch any of it but it sounds like the 10th inning was an absolute shitshow.
Acuna getting to 40/70 and everyone acting like this is some monumental accomplishment. LOL. They are giving stolen bases away. There’s nothing to celebrate there.
Or here.
Five Years And What Are We Really Doing?
The embarrassing run of failure continues. Honestly, I don’t want to judge Farhan and Kap off this collapse. It’s the end of the year, they’re obviously out of gas and they have nothing to play for. Farhan has proven he can dumpster dive. There’s no question about that. But you don’t build a world series contender just being good at dumpster diving. I am not optimistic about the farm system he built. They are decently rated but the proof is in the pudding. And so far, this pudding has underwhelmed.
I guess I’m ok with one more year of these guys just to see if I’m wrong about the farm system. But that has to start producing or, you know, what are we even doing here.
LogDog Deserves The CY
To me, Webb showed MLB that he deserves consideration for CY in the National League. 216 innings, by far the most pitched in MLB. 1.07 WHIP. People talk about Snell? LMAO. He’s leading the NL in walks. Come on. I could see Strider for sure. But Webb pitched his ass off this year.
LA Wins Again
Well, the Padres caught us. But we aren’t dead yet. Win out and we’re in….lqtm. Actually that probably wouldn’t get it done. More football tonight if that floats your boat.
More Losing
No, I didn’t watch the game last night. And I had really nothing else to do. I did watch a couple episodes of AfterLife (a show I finished earlier in the Summer). It’s so good.
I personally don’t get all the anger from fans getting directed to Farhan and Kap. I don’t think they’re anything special but a big part of this embarrassing season needs to fall on the lap of ownership. We don’t have very good players. Kap can shuffle them around all he wants. We have no power and no speed. We are slow AND weak. It’s like a team full of Matt Duffy and Joe Panik’s. Today’s game demands you have strength (bombs) and speed (SBs).
At least we have the NFL today! I have lots and lots of teams at draftkings to keep me interested.
Flavor Needs A Favor
That was a nice unexpected win last night.
I have a non-Giants related post today. As you heard, I lost my childhood friend recently. I have lost people in my life but this one really hurts. I feel this in the marrow of my bones.
A little about my friend Gary: He had a band in high school (and after) called Hoodlum Pride. It remains one of the best rock and roll band names of all time. After they broke up he continued to play guitar in different bands. It was his passion. A few months ago he was in a motocycle accident that severely damaged his hand. He was never going to be able to play guitar again. And this week he died. He was 54. His wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and can’t work. They do own a house but it is a teardown along side a creek in Boulder Creek with several Redwood trees on the property. It is going to be a very tricky sell.
I started this blog in 2010 and haven’t asked anything of anyone here since it began. But I am asking something of you now. If you can give even $20 that would mean the world to this family. If you can give more that would mean multiple worlds. They have some immediate and critical financial obligations. Here is his gofundme if you are able
Another Dirty Thirty For Purdy
It’s uncanny how ofter he gets to that number. And with this D, 30 gonna be all we need most weeks.
The Giants went down meekly and pathetically to the Dodgers, at least what my friends were texting me.
This team is dead in the water. Again. Short term and long term.
I wish we had an owner who gave a shit. Jed was an absolute joke until he finally hit on Shanny and Lynch. Feels like we need a reset in San Francisco.
Niner Game
Hey, what’s this? Another Niner game? Yes please. Anything to take us away from the pathetic slow death of this year’s Giants team. Speaking of the Giants…..No Barkley. It’s our home opener. We smoke these fools like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70s, right? RIGHT?
Sooner or later I gotta be right with that take……..
Playing Out The String
One more sleep till the Niner game. I just don’t have any interest left in our boring baseball team. The players, and the way the team is managed, has taken all the emotion and joy out of watching the games. Losing doesn’t help either.
I’ve had a lot of epiphanies in the last couple of days. One of them is that I’m not going to blow off texts or phone calls anymore. Nothing I’m doing in the moment is more important than talking to a friend or a family member.
R-OIP, GPS
Taking a break from the Giants. Endulge me. One of my oldest friends died unexpectedly yesterday and I just need to vent a little….
i love all the people in my life today but they’ll never know what it’s like to be one of my first childhood friends. Childhood memories. Crazy wide-eyed kids, running up and down Walter Hays Drive. Football in the street. Tossing extra points over that big assed lamppost next to Deanne’s house. Indian Ball. Hitting tennis balls to Ernie till his paws bled. His first Fender. Playing it till his fingers bled. Palo Club. My catcher then and till the end. Hoodlum Pride. The greatest guitarist I will ever know. Rock-On In Peace bro…..

Don’t know if he ever played this tune but if I close my eyes I can hear him play this solo near the end….

GPS in the middle. 2002?

Thank God It Wasn’t 8-0
Ok, what did we learn yesterday? That we are good enough to hold a 9-0 lead over a terrible oppenent and Still. Fucking. Win. Baby.
That’s just how we roll.
Niners looked ok. I’m still wondering how Puka Shell and that Williams kid were allowed to cook our defense the way they did and Brock missed 3 easy td tosses but whatever, a win’s a win especially a division win……
Shifting Focus
Ok, thankfully this will be an NFL blog today. The Giants have fallen apart and there aren’t enough cartons of cigs that can fix how terrible they are. At least we have football to distract us from their season which has gone……up in smoke…..
Go Niners.
And a note about Colorado: it’s a fun story because they only won a single game last year and what Sanders has done is to be commended. But all this look-at-me stuff has a point of exhaustion and for me it’s nearly reached it. All this dude does is go on shows and high five with his bros and sell sunglasses. LOL. They are 3-0 but i am predicting a pretty big crash coming (though admittedly I haven’t checked their remaining schedule).
Fun story tho.
Bad Loss
That was an irritating loss but they put themselves in this position of having to win nearly all the rest of their games so losses like that are going to sting more.
Ok, ok, forget smoking them like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70s. How bout smoke them like Big Flavor smoked a Marlboro Light in the early 90s.
Crushing Rox
Had a day to acclimate in Denver, don’t ignore that. We are like 16-1 vs Colorado in our last 17 games. How is that even possible to do in baseball?
Smoke them like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70s…..
Still Alive
Another win, another day we can imagine what might be in October. Beats being a Yankees fan. I must say I’ve moved on to NFL this year but if we keep winning I could see some of those old feelings getting stirred up again.
Beaten By A Chump
Super disappointing. Quantrill sucks and he bent us over like a Friday night ho. We can’t lose winnable games like that one. The final wildcard spot is ours for the taking. If we don’t suck bad enough to not be able to back into it.
Getting It Done
Another all-out effort to beat a terrible team but we will take it. At least it looks like they’re trying again. Can’t say that for the roadie they just came off.
Only 1.5 out of final WC spot.
Has there ever been a lamer more underwhelming debut from a player who came with so much hype? Watching Rodgers run onto the field with the flag was inspiring but also weird looking. He just isn’t a Jet. And then to go down on the 4th play, man, I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be to be a Jets fan for all these years. Back to Zach, lol.
Still Alive, Barely
Well we’ve climbed right back into the mix with that 3 game win streak and Cleveland shouldn’t offer up much resistance so let’s keep this train rolling. Ouchie Hip Cobb goes tonight.
Man, how fun was that Niner game. Just an embarrassment of riches on both sides of the ball. Can you imagine if the Giants even had the equivalent of ONE of those Niners? Who is the Giants Bosa? Aiyuk? CMC? Warner? Deebo? Kittle?
We have nobody with that type of pull on the team. Maybe Dirty Harry? In a couple of years?
They Have Rocks For Brains
That was the bungling Rockies I thought we’d get this series and it would just be flat out unacceptable to lose to a team that really isn’t trying to win.
But baseball takes a backseat today gents. The first NFL Sunday of the year is upon us. And as I have all the covid anti-bodies flowing through all of my blood today I couldn’t be more excited about what’s about to unfold……..
A W
Very entertaining game. I had to remind myself to forget the fact that we were playing one of the worst teams in the league who has given up and is trotting out mostly an AAA line up. I was also concerned about Dirrrrrty Harry not missing too many bats vs said line up.
But whatever, they fought back and won a game. They won a game.
That’s a start. As we are about to end.
Also…..*******Covid NEGATIVE today, gents. It’s a dawning of a new world, one where newly anti-bodied Big Flavor roams the earth unfraid of those who oppose or attempt to destroy him……..
Our Man Takes The Mound
Dirty Harry Day. He should make short work of these Rox. Still on a pitch count but i bet he fans at least 8. And wouldn’t it be the ultimate burn if our old friend Ty Blach came into San Francisco and taught us a lesson about overconfidence.
I seriously don’t get why Andy Reid went for it when it was 4th and 25 with 2:09 left with 3 time outs and the 2 min warning. Why do that? Why not kick, use your timeouts and then force a punt and start over with 1:20 or so left. He’s Mahomes, he can do anything. But 4th and 25 with no Kelce and The Terrible Toney wandering the playing field just seemed like a foolish move.
Quitting A Month Early?
No Giants game today. Thank God. Watching the last 2 games closer than I’ve watched games in a while it appears to me that these guys aren’t playing hard for Kap. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s just the dog days, but there is zero urgency with these guys. No emotion shown whatsoever. It’s also possible that they just don’t have a leader in the clubhouse who can help inspire them. Think about it. Name one. Estrada because he gave 1 speech? Not enough amigo, not enough.
I’m ecstatic about the Bosa signing. I knew he was going to wait this long and said it at the time. Nick don’t like pre season. But he’s getting paid and if he can stay healthy will lead that defense for years. It’s funny, there apparently are few things that could make me dislike Bosa. It appears the support from Trump isn’t one of those thing because even after I read this, and Nick’s political leanings are well known, it didn’t phase me. I still fucking love Nick Bosa lol.
Congratulations to Nick Bosa of the 49ers on new extension. Worth every penny! 43-17 when he plays. Wow!
Finding New Ways To Lose
Well, that game had a lot of highs and lows. Two highs were that the offense re-emerged and Big Flavor hit both his bomb bets. The lows were a dominant number though, we played pathetic defense, our pitchers sucked and, ultimately, we lost.
At least I’ve got a day game to boost me spirits as I continue to fight off the raveges of the evil covid virus.
Everyone Shuts Us Down
I get Strider. I kind of get Snell. I guess I get Steele even though it was warm and the wind was blowing out.
I do not get Lugo.
The variance of who can shut this offense completely down is wide.
Speaking of shutting it down, after 3 years I finally got Covid. So i’m going to be sparsely participating here till i feel better.
Labor Day!
Let’s see if our bats decide to work today in Chicago or are they going to take another day off. Winds blowing out in Wrigley…..
Need The Win Today
Lots going on today, sorry the thread is late.
Pac Classic Day!
Also I am deep i mean DEEP into my NFL draft prep.
Happy Dirty Harry Day!
Taking Care of Business
The Padres presented as expected: a team who has completely checked out. Good for us. Bad for Melvin who seems to have lost the team if that’s the best effort he can get out of them. And that wheeler dealer gun slingin’ GM should probably get shitcanned, too.
Where’s the accountability in San Diego?
