I don’t follow college football much, but Colorado winning today is such a great story.
Agreed. Game changer for college football…
Very cool.
Anyone know people trapped in the storms and the mud at Burning Man? I know a contractor who used to help design and build the huge wooden temple that goes up in flames at the end. Great guy. Visited Cambodia one year to study ancient design elements. I suspect he’s dropped away since private planes and luxury RVs took over. They’re all stuck in place now, trying to figure out how to feed themselves with five loaves and two fishes.
Where is your pick in the first? My long time league picking 12th out of 14th. Better than being first as I was last year and took the overwhelming first overall by everyone in Jonathan Taylor. He shit the bed bringing me down with him. With 12th I think I can land Pollard with that Atlanta rookie my potential backup…
don’t know till an hour b4 the draft
Austin Slater (R) CF
Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
Mitch Haniger (R) RF
Patrick Bailey (S) C
J.D. Davis (R) DH
Paul DeJong (R) SS
Casey Schmitt (R) 3B
Wade Meckler (L) LF
Kyle Harrison (L) P
The Giants are a very peculiar team…
I know, it’s tempting to say it’s a scrubini lineup for today, but it actually has a lot of starters in it.
See what they can do vs. Snell, who can be very good but against whom you can also run up pitch count early when he’s wild. Then you can whack away at Padres pen.
Snell’s BB rate is his highest in 7 years. Last outing shutout Cards through 7 but walked 5.
4 games before that, 23 innings 10 runs 4 HRs 12 BBs. Also 28Ks, and those starts were vs. Marlins Dogs O’s and Dodgers. Only L was vs. Marlins.
That ump last night called 64 strikes, 13 of which were balls way out of the zone. The egregious call on Estrada was tied with two others for worst mistake of the game. But the Giants would’ve lost with a robo ump, too.
First time I’ve seen Britney Eurton in long time.
Dumb hat too.
Harrison is seeing how the good MLB hitters jump on mistake pitches.
Uh oh.
I’ll say…
Harrison looks like he aged 10 years in 2 innings…
By then he will have facial hair and wrinkles atleast..
I’ll take 9-1 on Skinner in the Pac…
that was my play too.
Now you know who to blame…
Flavien Prat holds off Mike Smith and Geaux Rocket Ride.
The 7 was horse Christina Blacker liked.
This framing shit is out of control and really annoying.
Almost every goddamn pitch.
It’s gone too far and something should be done about it.
When you embellish a tripping call in hockey you go to
the penalty box for trying to deceive the referee.
How is this any different?
Preller has rec’d good value for picking up Sanchez off waivers from Mets. 19 HRs, .500 slugging in 69 games. Only paying him $1.5 million.
Acuna starts the scoring vs the bums with 454 ft HR dead CF, 121.2 mph exit velo, 19 deg launch angle. It must’ve been rising still as it hit the batters backdrop.
HI DRIVE… IN THE PARK( not even the warning track)
Just way to many times Kuiper is losing it on his depth perception calls..
Kuiper talked on the air the other night about sharing cancer treatment stories with Matt Williams before the game. Neither of them is at full strength, apparently.
It’s comical watching the Giants continue to get a few base runners on usually courtesy of Snell’s wildness but then right on cue they can never get a hit to drive anyone in.
That looked like a very soft throw to first from DeJong on the failed DP.
The old quality start–blown to bits.
Ha! Krukow rues the elusive quality start. If only DeJong had turned that DP?
Need the win tomorrow.
Agree, Mac. Get the series split. Happy flight. And go kick some cubbie ass.
At least the Snakes lost too.
And Ballgame..Well we know 91 pitches is Harrison’s limit he’s won with and now lost with it..
11K’s with the win,4 HR’s allowed in the loss hmm 🤔
Saw something (but can’t find it now) that showed Atlanta’s first 5 hitters in their usual lineup and their HR tallies. Numbers so high I couldn’t add them up in my head. Comparing to Giants is difficult because a) we don’t have a “usual” first 5 hitters, it’s always changing, and b) obviously we pretty much suck at hitting HRs.
Giants mailed this one in. Pathetic.
zzz . . .
Steve, nice pics of you and Michele…
Thank you Paul . . . She was sick last week with the flu, but is feeling much better this week. Hope you are doing well!
Hanging in there. Came back to Saigon yesterday to begin 7 weeks of teaching at the uni here. Will probably go back to Vung Tau on weekends, miss the sea when I come back to the city…
Agree. Saw those. You two looked so happy.
Thank you Chi . . . Took those earlier today.
Better gig versus Hanoi though, right?
Yeah, you know I don’t really like Hanoi, something bad always happens when I go there, but doing 7 weeks there once a year isn’t bad, the money is good and so are the students. But yes, nice to be back in Saigon and be able to go home to Vung Tau when needed.
Another Giants starter with a good start (three solo shots, notwithstanding), getting Cained.
Shit get so fucking old when your batters can’t hit their way out of a wet passer bag.
Score some damned runs, already.
Oh fuck. Three run jack. Sorry kid…
Not sure I ever thought I’d say this, but the team needs about 10 Wilmers and ditch just about everyone else…
So, they need to look more like the Padres….
Yeah, tough to watch this offense at times. Down right offensive….
I don’t know about looking more like the Padres… on paper a better team perhaps but kind of full of jerks who can’t win together….
The roster was more fun with Ramos and Matos on it.
And Luciano. Is Meckler starting to perform well enough that these others will be kept at Sacto? Are Haniger and Conforto going to help the team more than Matos/Ramos? I kinda doubt it. I guess maybe we’ll have to wait until next year to see if Matos Ramos and Luciano will be more permanent fixtures….
Meckler is a hazard in CF. And his hitting is non-existent. Pederson yesterday looked like he was gonna throw road flares at him to slow his ass down from crashing into him.
Hopefully Harrison learned he can’t “Caveman” (Davey Johnson term) his way through a lineup. He’d walked couple guys before Coach Bailey came out and Kap could have yanked him but left him in. Didn’t trust anything else so he thew the rook 4 fastballs, last one of which left the yard, and his night (and game) over. Has to have better plan to get out of the inning.
As Estes noted on postgame, velo and spin rate per Statcast were down. cbs site had fastball in last inning at 92-93.
Start spreadin’ the news,
I’m leavin’ today,
I want to be a part of it,
Vung Tau, Vung Tau…

Gold…
I’m guessing the main reason a traditional starting pitcher “doesn’t have his good stuff” in a start is because he’s not fully recovered from the last start. After the four days rest, the arm is still feeling a little sore, but it’s showtime, and you gotta take the mound. So if the arm isn’t feeling fully recovered, it’s going to be harder to really snap off the breaking pitches, and velocity on the fastball can be lower.
Learning to pitch well when your arm isn’t fully recovered is part of the skill of the job. And obviously that counts for relievers, too.
Koufax shutout the Twins in Game 7 of the ’65 WS on 2 days rest.
Lonborg tried it 2 years later and got shelled…
Atlanta has a chance today to complete a four game sweep of the the Dodgers in LA.
The Dodgers got served a little bit of humble pie this weekend.
No matter what happens today.
Sounds better than eating crow…
Reminds me of great opening verse from bluesman James Harman’s song “My Little Girl”:
“she served me crow
on a silver plate
I did not like the taste of it
At least I didn’t have to wait”
Ha! Saw him more than once, with Hollywood Fats on guitar.
Needed to win yesterday. Need to win today. Get the split with Dago, and then take the series with the cubbies.
We are tied with AZ and Cincy (percentage points behind) and are all in the 3rd WC. Miami is a game back.
Gigantes must win series now of they want to dance…..
The next start after a no-hitter or near one is normally not a good one for the pitcher. Cobb threw the most ever he’s thrown in the last start, at 131. Kappler better have a quicker hook today than yesterday, where he blew it leaving Harrison in too long, after HE pitched the most pitches he’d ever thrown in the last start. Sometimes Kappler is frustrating…
Give Pads fans credit. per mlb.com 41,980 there last night, for team 8 games under .500.
Maybe Harrison was tired so his velocity down? Guessing everyone saw my prior rants on how having him throw 30 more pitches than his previous high might not have been a good idea? Shit!!
We won season series vs Reds. Up one in series with AZ with 2 games left. Down 1 game to the Cubs with 3 games coming up. Assuming head to head is a tie breaker, we are looking good in 2/3.
The bummer is now that Phil’s have pulled away, we get Braves or Dodgers if we make it as #2 or #3 WC:(
Go Giants!
Fucking Pffftttethic….🙄
Well, we’ll always have those two great games at the end of August, where Harrison and Cobb both went deeper in the pitch count than they ever have before and threw gems. My gawd.
Ya grab hold of and treasure those shiny things when ya can. Not a lot of them this year….
Yeah, well, the pen saving then leads to pen overuse now. Gotta wonder who pushed Kapler to ignore the algorithms. Going to SD we needed to average two wins per series, I thought. We still do.
And then got shorted a day’s rest.
Anyone down with getting rid of Yaz next season? Good fielder, but long in the tooth (33 years old), with diminishing returns. Nice player for last 5 years, but I would really like to move on from him.
He could go 25/90 at Yankee Stadium if he could stay on the field.
Not gonna get much for him alone…
Agree. That shit’ll get sorted-out without a deal. Agree with Loo that you’re not getting much for him alone.
Yaz, Davis, Crawfish, Conforto, Slater.
Slip slidin’ away…
Winn has yet to…
So splain it to me how you score that ricochet/put-out st hole by Bailey? 😂
Cobb and Harry on 4 days rest as well. So, load them up on pitches and give them one less day of rest and look at the results.
Woo hoo.
I always have hope, but wearing thin. This team is so boring to watch most of the time. Our lack of any players with skill at the plate is painful.
A few months ago i was excited for our homegrown infield. Since then they all sucked.
Anyone disagree that the only offensive player we have worth keeping is none of them?
We have to of course unless we are the Univ of Colorado.
Bailey because he is young and a good defender. There isn’t one other guy is there? No other hitters for sure.
A good question, if we put our entire offense was put on waivers like the Angels did, how many would get claimed? Our catcher and maybe Flores. Augh
Just for fun trivia
2 catchers 1.7 WAR 7 homers, 45 rbi’s in 274 AB’s
2.5 WAR 19 homers 46 rbi’s in 232 AB’s
Which one is Bailey and which one is Gary Sanchez?
A challenge on a two inch shift violation? Kaplers got his priorities straight huh?
Ramos hit a walk-off HR for Sac-town last night. Ramos would be better on the SF roster than Meckler.
Pollock is doing a rehab assignment in Sac-town. Pretty soon it will be Pollock up, Meckler down.
Contain your excitement.
There was a big storm at Burning Man. It turned the event into an actual survival test.
The Giants are in a four-way tie for the third wild card spot.
Contain your excitement.
All we have to do is sweep the cubs.
Seminoles home garnet/gold uniform one of best in all college football.
Maybe. But damn I hate that team. And the effing Gators, too.
People were walking over 2 miles to get out to the highway to arrange a pickup to Reno, which took over 2-3 hours cause every step in the ankle high mud felt like they were adding cinder blocks to their shoes! Lack of water, food, flash flooded out tents ⛺️not how I would want to spend my Labor Day..
just caught some of this on the radio, Flemm was saying the ball wasn’t carrying this series before having to note that it was carrying fine for the Padres……
I never saw so many HRs to dead center in my life…
The Yankees have retired 22 numbers (for 23 players).
Kind of dilutes the honor…
Well, they’ve had a ton of talent.
True, but they’ve taken it to a ridiculous extreme.
Even Yankee fans here think so in several cases…
My cable co Spectrum is in a fight with Disney so they are blocking ESPN! At the start of football. Time to find a new carrier!
DirecTV — my provider —- is in a long-running pissing match with Fox, so missing whatever sporting events they’re carrying. Fuckwads.
Had to be a horrible flight to Chicago. Wonder if anyone flipped the post-game buffet table after the game today? Drastic times call for drastic measures. Someone needs to kick the tires and light the fires.
I think those days are over, Chi.
These guys don’t need free food anymore and even if they get it,
I’m pretty sure they shake off losses pretty easily.
Not saying they don’t care – of course they do, but WS shares are
pocket change…
