Everyone Shuts Us Down

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 5, 2023

I get Strider. I kind of get Snell. I guess I get Steele even though it was warm and the wind was blowing out.

I do not get Lugo.

The variance of who can shut this offense completely down is wide.

Speaking of shutting it down, after 3 years I finally got Covid. So i’m going to be sparsely participating here till i feel better.

    Get well, BF.
Get the Paxlovid — check with your doctor, I’m note entirely sure, but think it still has a positive result against this new strain…

no clue. Surprised it took so long. There has been a rise in it in Palo Alto over the last few weeks according to the wastewater they test. And of course nobody wears masks anymore

From what I’ve read, anything you can do on the front, early end of the infection to reduce the viral load is a good thing, especially to reduce the chance of long Covid, even if the infection seems mild. Hence, the Paxlovid angle…

Blogger Bruce H. in TA noticed Giants offense began to decline post June 24, 7-6 W over AZ. Giants were 44-33 at that time. I looked at box score from that game which included Matos first HR.
Since then, Wade Jr. Joc and Davis have all lost 100 points off OPS, Craw is down 75 and Estrada over 50. Joc and JD have lost 60-85 off slugging pct., Wade 50 off OB.
So, as to coaches, what was working so well earlier for everyone that they can’t fix now?

Not sure what plan would be in offseason, how many guys might be non tendered or perhaps traded, but you have to wonder if Z has just been looking at wrong type of hitters to acquire or hold onto. He has a plan behind actions, but results this season very disappointing.

Dubon for the Astros so far this season in 416 ABs:
    Hrs 9
    RBIs: 39
    K percentage: 13.5%
    Slash: .274/.304/.404. = .708 OPS
Great? No, but better than some of our hitters over a 400+ AB season…

Even 3 weeks later, when they’d been up and down-win a few lose a few, they beat Reds 11-10 in second game of 4 game set on July 18. Record at that time was 54-41, so 16-27 since.

This far into the Farhan tenure, we should have more farm guys being productive. It is only now that some of these guys are just getting their feet wet. And we are on year 5. The patchwork shit has been wildly inconsistent over the past few seasons, and it is readily apparent we are still there. At some point they are gonna have to go after talent that is young and able.

I always record the pre- and post-game. Was watching last night’s post game earlier, and Aurillia shared the team is hitting like .208 or something over the last 62 or 67 games. That’s two solid calendar months of supreme suckitude at the plate. It doesn’t matter how stellar your D is, or how shut-down your pitching is…if your hitting a little mover .200 for two months your not winning many ball games. And check any of the O-related stats like ONP or OPS, etc., and our boys are just fucking wretched.

They did have a several month run of kicking ass before this slide, so hypothetically they could catch lightning in a bottle over the final 24. And monkeys could fly out of my ass. Not holding my breath for any miraculous turn-around.

I’m heading out to begin gathering wood for the hot stove….

      • chipower9's avatar chipower9 said, on September 5, 2023 at 5:08 pm

They’re fucking last in everything except putting up zeros in the run column of the scoreboard. Still don’t understand how they went from over 10 games over .500 on July 18 (and 1.5 out of first place), to being dead last in everything since July 18.

        Someone stole their mojo.

They look so tired and focus less…..they don’t show the desire to win….one run down feel like ten….they can’t bunt for base hit, do no go to the other side of the field by hitting behind the runner, they are not Willie Mays to pretend to pull everything, they kill rallies by the bunches, the hitting coach should emphasize to hit outside pitchs to the right side of the field but they just pull and produced weaks ground balls that kill rallies, easy routine fly balls, they need to wake up the winning spirit of the beginning of the sseason

  22. willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 5, 2023 at 5:04 pm

the SBs/triples thing…I don’t think Z has ever signed anyone who could do that since he’s been here, so I’m guessing he’s not interested. Estrada had 21 SBs last year, looking similar this year. Slater has been successful at them (high of 15 as part timer) but his leg injuries this year curtailed attempts.
Before that, only speedy OF was GD, who hit well for couple months and then cratered, and Pillar who stole 14 in 2019 and then was non tendered.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 5, 2023 at 5:07 pm

2021 GD led the team with 5 triples and was 3rd with 7 SBs. Bryce Johnson stole some bags when he was first up but he hit .163 in 40 some ABs.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 5, 2023 at 5:12 pm

Preseason SB predictions, given new pizza box bases and pickoff limit, all noted that the Giants probably had the slowest projected roster. Joey Bart was the third fastest then, iirc. Meckler helps slightly. Ramos Matos and Luciano (when his legs work) might also.

You guys can be so funny. I wake up, open the Flap before anything else, and oops, sounds like G’s are getting creamed. Uh, it’s a 1-run game…. Yeah, I know, that 1 run can sometimes seem (and often is, lately) insurmountable. Steve, to add to your little survey, I got through the 2 severe lockdowns here without getting Covid, but finally got it last Fall teaching up in Hanoi. Too many students, crammed into too small classrooms. It was not debilitating, but seems now the worst of it is the dreaded and perhaps mythical “Long Covid”. Doctors blame my recent chronic vertigo on that. I think they just say it’s long Covid when they don’t know what the problem really is….

My Outfield next year with the glimmer of hope they could sign Bellinger would be LF Matos CF Bellinger RF Ramos and leave them out there EVERYDAY! 2Backups Between Haniger,Yaz&Meckbower gang..

Meckler was drafted last year out of Oregon State, and only got into 23 games in OF btw San Jose and AZ rook league, 11 of which he was in CF.
This year played 63 games across minor league teams, 20 were in CF others in corners. He was only in Sac for 10 games, and never played CF at all.
That’s it for his Giants minors career.
Giants have played him almost exclusively in CF and he just looks tentative to me. Made some mistakes early, might be little gunshy of being embarrassed.
