A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Still Alive, Barely

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 11, 2023

Well we’ve climbed right back into the mix with that 3 game win streak and Cleveland shouldn’t offer up much resistance so let’s keep this train rolling. Ouchie Hip Cobb goes tonight.

Man, how fun was that Niner game. Just an embarrassment of riches on both sides of the ball. Can you imagine if the Giants even had the equivalent of ONE of those Niners? Who is the Giants Bosa? Aiyuk? CMC? Warner? Deebo? Kittle?

We have nobody with that type of pull on the team. Maybe Dirty Harry? In a couple of years?

Not sure Niners adequately addressed O line problems in offseason. Purdy was under some heat as game progressed, sacks pressures blocked/deflected passes yada yada.
One of best blocks all day was the one Aiyuk put on #23, flattening him as McCaffrey ran by.

Surprised SeaChickens went down. Rams next up, right?

Seattle and NY Giants, both underwhelmed yesterday. Seattle was supposed to handle the Rams they looked awful and the stupid “12’s” were an afterthought

Saying NYG underwhelmed is putting it kindly, that was an all-time shitshow Gonna be easy pickings for Niners a week from Thursday.

Lots of offseason hyped teams fell on their faces. Seattle, Cincy, Pittsburgh, KC, and the Vikings to name a few. It’s a long season, but Cleveland stomped Cincy, and the Rams crushed Seattle at home. ANd KC looked out of sync without Kelce.

Just goes to show preseason football doesn’t me squat, as commentators were mentioning how well Pittsburgh looked and the 49ers could have their hands full ..lol

Offense clicking with CMC,Aiyuk,Purdy spot on throws and the Defense led by Warner he was a savage that truck job pancake hit on Najee left him woozy as even the Steelers fans were in shock!

Shout-out to the new kid..FG Kicker Jake Moody who after missing last game with a quad injury having the 49ers wondering wtf for the opener, drills 3 perfect FG’s maybe he had a mood ring on for extra luck..

I worked at a lumber yard/wooden container factory in Watsonville for a while, after running low on cash, and all forty or so guys there were sports fanatics. Someone organized a coarse nfl pool, $5 to enter (about the hourly wage), winner take all. I studied the mags lying around the break room but, week one, failed totally. Quick check of the winner’s form showed that he’d done nothing but pick the underdogs to cover. He missed one.

You know a guy named Greg Cramblett? He ended up running Sir Froggy’s in Soquell for a long time. He worked at Watsonville lumber back in the late 70s. Mighta been Scott’s Valley though.

No. I was there a while, summer 78 to early 79; don’t remember the name of anyone. Oddly, the place had one of the nicest pool tables I’ve ever shot a game on. Forklift guys were good. Hand eye. But the Japanese American guy who drove the company’s bigrig was astonishing. Backing that long flatbed trailer into narrow alleys was good practice, apparently.

Prolly, but Greg is long gone. You ever hit Sir Froggy’s? They had a real lousy pool table!

      Great free food nights, tho.

Naw. Didn’t spend much time in Soquel. Although I did help a guy build a hillside house there, off Hardin. Cash pay was pretty good.

      • Unca's avatar Unca said, on September 11, 2023 at 6:04 pm

Yeah, did some under the table work down there myself when I moved back here from Colo. Funny, the only old haunt left down there is the Med. Used to be a bunch of killer bars in Aptos, RioDel Mar, and Capitola.

What was it? Cooper House? The jazz enesmble that would play out there in the courtyard? Shit was cool. Spend many a day out there.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 11, 2023 at 7:04 pm

Big brick Cooper house with daytime jazz, crumbled in 89. Catalyst, moes alley (or its predecessor) and that place at the sash mill, name I can’t recall. Kuumbwa also, at the edge of downtown.

Oy, disappointing year all around for Guardians who made some noise last season winning 92 games. Currently sitting on 68-76. Need a new manager too as Francona retiring.
They traded away Nolan Jones to Rox in offseason for SS in AA ball.
They traded away Will Benson to Reds for couple minor prospects.
This on a team that is dead last AL for HRs, 13th in runs and slash line rankings 10-13-12.
Reading through some blog posts in TA, lot of complaints of “punchless” offense.
Pitching 5-6 AL for ERA and runs, but lot of health issues.

  11. willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 11, 2023 at 2:24 pm

Guards caught the bad part of half year with Josh Bell, kinda like Padres last year. Signed him to $16 mil deal in offseason and through 97 games he had .701 OPS with 11 HRs and slugging .383.
Traded him away to Marlins, and in 35 games there he has 9 HRs .855 OPS and .515 slugging.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 11, 2023 at 2:35 pm

Thought Bell woulda been a nice addition for us. NL guy I guess.

Runner on second, no out, 2-1 count on Estrada, he gets a pitch on the low outside corner of the strike zone, and he PULLS the ball and doesn’t advance the runner. I don’t get it.
And K&K don’t even mention the lack of execution.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 11, 2023 at 8:14 pm

I thought it was unusually bad for Thairo, esp after he squared up a high pitch the AB before.

Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, probably AFC’s top 3 teams, all lose their openers. Could be an interesting year. As for Giants, starting to look like whichever team battling for that last WC spot gets hot at the end will make it. Giants have been known to go on a roll now and then….
