A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Still Alive

Another win, another day we can imagine what might be in October. Beats being a Yankees fan. I must say I’ve moved on to NFL this year but if we keep winning I could see some of those old feelings getting stirred up again.

JD Davis’ 3-run homer yesterday was the first 3-run jack for the Giants since July 17 = 2 months. Crazy…

“Beats being a Yankees fan”, ha good one. So they re-sign Aaron Judge and fork out $100 mil for Rodon (ultimate 5 inning start guy) and are at present 1 game over .500 and 18 games behind O’s, 16 back of Tampa.
As a team they are hitting .225 (tied for worst AL) and are 10th AL for runs scored and OPS.
Certainly not “boring” but not very good either.

hmmnn supposedly Harrison made mechanical adjustment in game and regained velo, with fastball up to 97-98. Also retired last few LHs he faced. Thought Kap handled things right yesterday, pulling him when he did and everyone else behind kept Guards off scoreboard and allowed Giants chance for comeback. Great move to use Doval in non save situation.

I’m not worried about Dirty Harry. Webb was terrible his first couple of seasons. Takes time.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 14, 2023 at 10:05 am

Good point. I hated watching Webb at that time, nibbler who was always in and out of trouble and had high pitch count to go not very far in games. Usually left with men on base for pen guys to have to clean up.

Buster brought Webb along in 2021 and exulted at his emergence as an ace after the season. Let’s hope Buster’s talking to Bailey. But the situations aren’t equal. Harrison’s voltage only seems to crackle at the higher end of his velo. Webb mastered the offspeed stuff.

The Mets, Yanks, and Pads are a combined 22.5 games out of the playoff hunt. As much shit as the organization gets for doing this on the cheap, which is a lot, the Giants are still chasing a spot.

Yeah, I want them to pry open their wallet next season as we get off the dumpster dives of Conforto, Haniger, Davis, Stripfuck, and the like, but I guess we will see what happens.

At some point they need to make a push for something other than a 2 year deal with an option to split.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2023 at 10:59 am

I mean, Conforto is gonna say “look what I did at Oracle Park”

    15 HRs 55 RBI, .251 BA, .343 OBP, .405 SLG, .748 OPS

Haniger is sticking around. I guess. Didn’t realize he’s got 2 years left on his deal.

    Yippeee.

    Joc will walk.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 14, 2023 at 11:06 am

Even the “writers” are griping about Joc’s obesity now.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 14, 2023 at 11:06 am

Conforto is Boras guy, and in FA market where there aren’t lot of good hitters I could see him getting decent longer term deal elsewhere. One thing about most of the Giants young hitters, plus Haniger Davis Flores Estrada–lot of RH bats. Other than Wade Jr. Yaz and Sabol (and Bailey as switch hitter), not lot of lefties beyond Wisely and Meckler, and Sabol can be sent down to Sac 2024.

As Willie said, the FA hitter pickings are small, e.g., Ohtani, Bellinger . . . then a chasm like drop. I think we have this much “” chance of acquiring Ohtani. Bellinger? He checks all the boxes, except he is a lefty (and a Dodger).

Me, if we are going to get a lefty, I want the “under the radar” Michael Brantley, who has been injured (shoulder) almost all season, but seems like his regular self in the few ABs he has had in September with the Astros. Because his shoulder was injured, I am not certain he can even play left field anymore. He’s also 36. That being said, he is a team player. For example, when the Astros lost Game 3 of the 2022 World Series, he ordered a players-only meeting to motivate the team to improve their hitting in order to get back into the Series, which they trailed, 2–1. It was later cited as a key motivator for the players as the team won the next three games to deliver a championship, with Brantley earning his first ring. Anyway, Brantley is an OB hitting machine and I like him a lot because of that, his character, and he will come relatively cheap.

Great hitter, always liked Brantley’s ability to use whole field, and pull the ball over fence when he had chance.

One other guy I like a lot – Jeimer Candelario, 3rd baseman with the Cubs. He’s hitting .275 with 17 home runs, 56 RBI, and seven steals while playing solid defense at the hot corner. Switch hitter too.

Marlins and Reds lost while D-Backs down 7-0 in 7th. If our Bay Area heroes win in high altitude tonight, they reclaim last wild card spot.

Mets win 11-1, took 3 of 4. Others all have 72 Ls now.

Bummer- it’s being reported that tonight’s game is cancelled because of bad weather.
There’ll be a split doubleheader on Sat.

I always noticed when the newspaper standings showed a team technically .5 games behind but nonetheless in first place due to winning percentage. Sometimes happened late in a season when teams at the top had unequal totals of games played. I think that’s where we are in the WC standings after tonight’s rainout.

Oops, the NFL has Eagles/Vikings, I should say.

Freaking hilarious, as it seems NO ONE WANTS A SPOT IN THE WILDCARD.

Ha, good one. After 145 games +, 4.5 game difference btw all 6 teams. this is second tier NL middle ground behind Braves and Dogs. Giants are right there, rooks openers and all.

Minnesota can’t get out of their own way. Fumble out of the end zone, fumble on the Eagles 25, and they call a timeout FOR the Eagles so they can kick a FG at the end of the half.

    Morons.

Unca, Krueger is FULL OF SHIT. Exact words are, “Would #SFGiants fans rather make the playoffs and keep going forward in ‘24 w/Farhan/Kapler or miss the playoffs and have regime change? My vote is for regime change.”

Then gets absolutely killed for saying these things and backs down and says, “I like Farhan. It’s Gabe I could do without.” How does “regime change” happen by only firing the manager??? Tick tock tick tock . . . Still waiting for that fucking fool to explain himself.
