Bad Loss
That was an irritating loss but they put themselves in this position of having to win nearly all the rest of their games so losses like that are going to sting more.
Ok, ok, forget smoking them like an old lady smoked a cigarillo in the 70s. How bout smoke them like Big Flavor smoked a Marlboro Light in the early 90s.
At least we got to listen to Jon Miller and Pence, nice combo.
Blackmon always seems to be tough out even still at age 37 amid declining numbers. Almost homered off Webb and that double off Doval started things going downhill.
Dangerous hitter, still runs and fields well. Blackmon’s playing out the string the way I wish Crawford could.
Doval piped 2 dead-straight fastballs down the middle to start Backmon’s AB. That fucking guy has been playing forever it seems like.
LA is up here playing the Mariners. Watching highlights from last night shows you how massive the position talent gap really is between these two and the Giants. Makes you sad and angry at the same time. 2024 is the year of reckoning for Giants ownership to put a really post-season competitive team on the field…
Webb is the first pitcher in MLB to reach 200 innings this year. Strider? Cole? Burnes? Nola? Nope. Webby.
Wow, didn’t know that. Gallen and Cole next two at 192.2 and 192.
well we knew it wasn’t gonna be that Seattle pitcher (Kirby?) who cried like a woman at having to throw more than 90 pitches one game.
“Talent gap…” dodgers win with their offense, scoring 2nd most runs NL, same for HRs BBs and all 3 triple slash lines. Out of 11 hitters that got in last night, only 2 Outman the rook and Wil Smith, are original Dodgers. All the others came via trade or FA signing, and they’ve gotten pretty lucky with Jason Heyward and J D Martinez this season, not so much with SS Vargas who hit HR #4 last night for them and isn’t much of a hitter.
Getting Giants anywhere near this kind of offense off FA market or trade this offseason highly unlikely no matter who is running or managing them, even with Ohtani.
At this point they are who they are, in that large group of teams behind Braves and LA. 4 other teams will get in post season, and last year the Phils got in WS, and the 100 win teams did not
.
There are only 3 teams NL that allow fewer runs per game than Giants, and Dodgers are not one of them. Pitching is fine and help on the way. Fixing offense little more complex.
Said essentially the same thing yesterday. Folks wanting to improve our hitting, are going to be very disappointed when Ohtani and Bellinger cash in somewhere else and they discover the “drop off” from them is significant. That doesn’t mean I think the hitting can’t be fixed. IT CAN. It just wont be with a shiny free agent like Ohtani or Bellinger type.
Well, other teams don’t need to score many runs against the Giants to win. They’re 22nd in mlb in runs scored so far. And NL only stats don’t mean much in the wide open interleague era, do they? In other words, I don’t think the pitching is fine. Webb is a stud. Otherwise, there are no reliable starters, and the pen, including Doval, is poised to fail in any given game.
Wilmer is the other real stud on the team and he spends more time on the bench than in the LU. But Slater, oh effing Slater must get his ABs.
Wait, Harrison was optioned to make room for Stripling?
Slater? This will be 4th straight year his slugging % has declined. 506 to .383 this year. Speed down too. 15, 12 SB’s in 21,22. This year 2. In age years 28 to 31 when he should be improving these numbers if he had the needed talent.
Why Kap still loves him despite his decline (bigger this year) is a mystery. It took my 2 min to look these up, so Giants must know too right?
When challenged about slater recently, Kap got combative and cited slaters historical PH numbers going back five seasons or so. Cutting edge stat work, huh? Maybe Manny Mota’s available.
@ Loco..article in Athletic says it’s mechanics. He made a tweak mid game last start and had his velocity back to 95. Our response? Send him down. Stripling? Augh
Yeah Dude, I guess that $25 mil 2-year contract probably came into play. I really was looking forward to Harrison’s next start in AZ, oh well.
I am so over Slater. Said this at the beginning of the season. In fact, I was over Slater in 2018. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice, little utility player, but that’s it. Loo was prescient when he said this . . .

At the moment the Giants have 4 outfielders on the 40 man roster.
Duggar – Slater – Mac – Shaw
I think I’m done with sports…”
Wow, I was even down on the Grave Duggar.
Weird thing about Slater is how far his occasional homers travel.
He’s hit a bunch of major bombs, which I assume shows he’s got
some crazy power. But so few and far between. I don’t get it…
That’s not first time Matos has misplayed a spinning, uncatchable bloop or flare by charging it too hard.
Speaking of Stripling…
This a long, potentially pen punishing game already. But heeere’s Stripling!
Good grief. What a FUBAR.
With Matos, it continues to be a baseball IQ thing. There’s a time and place to try to decoy a runner, but that wasn’t it.
Nor were the earlier similar fuck ups. Theoretically, IQ doesn’t change much, does it?
It did help the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz..
And another Giants DP to kill another inning it’s hilariously automatic..
So you’re saying there’s a chance.
Listening to the KPFA blues show, I just realized where I’ve heard the iPhone piano-riff ring tone before: Otis Spann, backing up Howling Wolf on the classic rendition of Spoonful. I think the other purported sources are slightly different.
Sad. 3-0 lead to a 9-3 loss. GRR
Geez only the Giants can get an injury on a HR as Wade limping in the dugout..
The good news, we only used three pitchers.
The bad news, they all gave up 3 runs.
John, everyone knows what you meant, but just so historians know, * . . . they gave up 3 runs each.
Strike out. Of course.
can you imagine how underwhelmed these guys are gonna feel about having to play another game right now? LOL the energy level is gonna be the lowest of the year.
Stix is 79 today. Happy birthday wherever you are.
Yes, HBD to Stix. Hopefully Giants can play better tonight and tomorrow.
In their last 26 road games, the Giants are now 4-22. You’d think they could have just accidentally won more than 4 games.
Pity the crew that has to do another pre-game show today.
I don’t know if anyone keeps stats on this, but there can’t be a worse team in MLB in moving the runner on second with no outs, to third.
NY Post says the guy Boebert was stroking at Beetlejuice owns a gay friendly bar that hosts drag shows. Take a walk on the wild side, Bobo.
I’m gonna watch this game until the Buffs game comes on
The intensity of the Buffs tonight is going to be off the charts after the opposing coach talked some smack this week. The Buffs will be focused and not looking past this game.
mm another thing sad about demise of Pac 12–it’s gonna be really good this season and decent share of ranked teams, with Buffs another pleasant surprise.
2 NorCal teams, idk. No more cupcakes.
If you take Slater and DeJong out of the lineup and slide Wade Jr. in at 1b for Wilmet, no need to platoon. figure out SS and CF, back up C and if possible add some power off bench–and continue to give more playing time and opportunity to younger guys in system as bridge to next strong group.
Wilmet there with patient AB like he had last night, letting go strike he didn’t like and taking the walk.
Guys in front of him and behind him, unfortunately, swung at first pitch with RISP and hit ball into the ground (at Coors of all places), resulting in unproductive groundout and GIDP. sigh
This is agony to be this close, have all the contenders let you catch back up, and play this badly:(
Like we’re goin’ someplace anyway…
I see there’s a lot of non-conference blood-money games in college football today. A weak team gets demolished by a power-house team, and the weak team’s program gets a big payday.
Meanwhile the weak team’s players are scraped off the field.
maybe tomorrow we beat them just regular. No smoking of any kind. It’s unhealthy anyway……
Light up.
We suck…
Whizzer White, the famous Colo Buffalo, was an all pro running back for Detroit while he was in law school. Years later he got involved in the JFK presidential campaign in Colo, and next thing you know he’s on the US Supreme Court until 1993. He did ok there. What a remarkable life.
Smokin’ cigarettes and watchin’ Captain Kangaroo
Now don’t tell me
I’ve nothin’ to do
Wild game. CSU disabled as many Buffaloes as they could.
