Flavor Needs A Favor
That was a nice unexpected win last night.
I have a non-Giants related post today. As you heard, I lost my childhood friend recently. I have lost people in my life but this one really hurts. I feel this in the marrow of my bones.
A little about my friend Gary: He had a band in high school (and after) called Hoodlum Pride. It remains one of the best rock and roll band names of all time. After they broke up he continued to play guitar in different bands. It was his passion. A few months ago he was in a motocycle accident that severely damaged his hand. He was never going to be able to play guitar again. And this week he died. He was 54. His wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and can’t work. They do own a house but it is a teardown along side a creek in Boulder Creek with several Redwood trees on the property. It is going to be a very tricky sell.
I started this blog in 2010 and haven’t asked anything of anyone here since it began. But I am asking something of you now. If you can give even $20 that would mean the world to this family. If you can give more that would mean multiple worlds. They have some immediate and critical financial obligations. Here is his gofundme if you are able
Flavor, I feel your pain last Sunday I lost my sister who was also my best friend throughout my life.
Oh sorry for your loss Winder
sorry, man.
Thank you guys.
Condolences to you, Winder.
My sister is about 3 years older than me.
I don’t think she ever did a mean thing in her life.
I remember her lifting me out of my crib…
Thanks, my sister was also 3 years older. She loved me unconditionally and believe me that was hard to do.
Whew! So sorry for your loss Winder. I lost my 27 year old brother when I was 28. Put me into an emotional abyss for 3 years before I “righted the ship” so to speak.
blade, my 10:07 post was meant for you. Thanks
“I started this blog in 2010 and haven’t asked anything of anyone here since it began”
That’s for sure…
Blade just kicked in $100. THANK YOU, my man.
Done. Again, so sorry for your loss.
thanks. I feel so bad for his wife who is stuck dealing with this mess they’re in now.
No worries Flavor. I can’t imagine going through something like that at her age.
thanks, I am her representative and have to deal with some family members. It’s gonna take me awhile also
Understand man. Been May (Mother’s day weekend) since my mom passed away and we just had her memorial earlier this month, but I am still processing it. Again, so sorry for your loss.
Thanks XOOT, really appreciate it
You bet.
Slusser tweets (formally, Xs) about her chron article today that apparently quotes some expert as support for the idea that Z’s impotence at the deadline ruined the confidence of some of the players. I don’t know. Sounds like a stretch to me.
I stubbornly boycott the chron, so I haven’t seen the article, just the blurb about it.
Nah I don’t buy that. You can spin that any which way. What Z said was he didn’t see anyone that would help more than who he already had or who was set to come off IL and rejoin team.
In other words, I believe in our guys. Lot of experts said wasn’t much to choose from anyway.
Who is the “industry expert” Slusser relied on?
Huh read column in Chron and her source was “one veteran” player. She quotes him saying, “If they thought we were a playoff team, they needed to go get us some help.”
Well that’s real convincing. Here’s her tweet:

Favor done.
Sorry for your loss too Winder…..My sis is 5 years older than me, has lupus:(
Re trade deadline? I agree with her. Showed the team that he didn’t think getting a player would help them. Still aggravated by that.
SF historic road woes. 5-26. If they had won just 40% of those games (not a super high bar right?) they would have won 7 more games in that stretch. 84-70 instead of
Thanks man
Thank you
Done.
Also, sorry to hear about your loss, Winder. Take care.
thank you
Done.
Condolences to you, BF…
Clown, Snarkk, WillieD, I can’t tell you what this means to me. Thank you!
you’re welcome.
And if you guys can’t kick in DO STRESS ON THAT. Totally voluntary if you can do it. Gary was a huge Giants fan, we went to games together as kids. It brings tears to my eyes that Giants fans he doesn’t even know are helping his widow and son right now. I’m just blown away by all of your generosity. Thank you thank you, 1000 times thank you.
Xoot, just told Slusser, how disgusted I am with today’s game. I really doubt there are a lot of players that actually should be bitch slapped like George Kirby (who actually complained about going further in a game), but the reality is that there isn’t one pitcher that can consistently complete 7 innings, much less a complete game – the way it is taught and played today. How does some kid get attached to any pitcher today? Seems like all “laundry” out there on the mound, other than the closer.
Slusser often responds to tweets. I’ve had a couple of a good little back and forths with her recently, one re Crawford, one re Webb. I think she’s exceptional for a chron beat writer. Baggarly of course is the best, but he has a lot more independence on the Athletic. He used to respond to tweets, but he’s rarely on the app any more.
SHe’s a clear second to Baggs, nobody in 3rd place even worth mentioning
Poor Pavlov ‘s Dog doesn’t have a chance.
Webb’s more than laundry. Wilmer is. Bailey will be. Crawford’s basically gone. Fitzgerald’s fiancé Sadie looks promising. But 2021 may have been the last Giants team I’ll feel deeply about in toto. That’s cause for melancholy.
Actually, I was referring more to the MLB versus Giants. Sandy Alcantara for example – pitched 228.2 innings leading the entire MLB last year. This year, he’s pitched 184.2 . . . His ERA almost doubled this season from last season. I think what Cole (200 innings) and Webb (207) have done this season is the new plateau high going forward. Since 2016, no one has gotten more than 230 innings (D. Price).
The vanishing aces. Some say it’s just a new era, get used to it; no worse than the (arguable) demise of the center in basketball. I don’t buy it. Great starting pitchers always remind me of great QBs. I don’t like the trend, either.
“Vanishing Aces.” Exactly. Couldn’t have said it better. Obviously the owners LOVE IT, as they wont have to pay Cole, Verlander, Scherzer like money ever again.
This constant platooning and righty/lefty thing screams to me one thing:
our players aren’t very good…
exactly.
Agree, and feel the same way about the over-use of openers….
Craig, I tried getting in to GoFundMe, but looks like it’s one of those “foreign” sites I can’t access in Vietnam. I’ll try to get a VPN. Regardless, big mental hugs to you and Winder for your losses…
the effort is more than enough. Don’t sweat it. I appreciate you.
Mlb game day says 107.5 mph for that effortless Luciano oppo drive to the wall.
Can we say Stripling has been a massive bust, or just a bust?
He’s not signed for next year or player option, is he?…
Ha! His salary jumps way up next season.
Phuck me…
No I’m wrong. That leap is Hanigers. Stripling stays around 12 1/4 million (a $5 million signing bonus split between the years complicates calcs). But Stripling does have an opt out. Fat chance.
Matos needs major offseason defensive teaching and reps in the OF.
The kid seems timid defensively, or lazy or scared or something.
He’s got a good arm, but regularly seems clueless situationally…
Well, that may be Kershaw’s last win against the Giants, barring they perform a miracle and roar back in this one. Should be win 210 for his career. I think this will be win 26 for him over the Giants, so more that 10% of his career wins have come against them. Ownage is ownage, but that’s just domination…
Despite the fact that he’s a Dodger, always respected the guy. Also loved MadBum’s homers against him…
I’ll admit, I have no F’ing clue who Tyler Fitzgerald is.
Why him, and not Ramos up? They know what they have/don’t have in Ramos?
Yeah, good to see Luciano and Matos getting playing time, but Ramos should be in there too. Gotta see what these guys can do. Some pundits have posited that the FO prioritizes its picks over players from the last regime, I guess of which Ramos is one….
Not like I was the only one, but I predicted Colorado and Prime would lose to at least a 4 TD beat down by Oregon.
Final: Ducks 42 , Buffs 6 …
I suspected this CNN article anointing him (Prime Time) as the best thing since “sliced bread” was a bit too much. Colorado train wreck against Oregon today proves it.

SF with just 2 hits tonight. Pathetic again.
Dodgers just toying with Giants.
This is like the bad old Garvey-Russel-Lopes-Penguin days.
Now it’s Mookie-Muncy-Freeman.
The only consolation is that I think Atlanta is going to take care of LA…
Looks like they just called up Ramos afterall.
They’ll give him one PH at bat per game, probably.
Let the guy play the rest of the games, and get 25-30 ABs.
I don’t want to see Haninger, JD Davis, Yaz, Slater, Joc, any of those dudes playing out the string…
Post game KNBR is unanimous Giants fans ripping Kappler and Farhan like rabid dogs.
Fans are on the warpath. Most want at least one, if not both, gone yesterday, and the roster burned down.
ONE, ONE has criticized ownership…
I get it – they are sort of the “face” of the Giants on a daily basis, e.g., father Johnson is going down the QNon rabbit hole and meanwhile, once in a blue moon, you hear from his son.
