LA Wins Again

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 25, 2023

Well, the Padres caught us. But we aren’t dead yet. Win out and we’re in….lqtm. Actually that probably wouldn’t get it done. More football tonight if that floats your boat.

thanks again to all of you who contributed to Gary’s gofundme.
Here’s his obituary. I was shooting hoops in his driveway with his brother the day he brought his first guitar home.

Even most of their fans though are pretty sure LA will Lose Again in playoffs. Their rotation is down to Opie Lynn and rookies.
Who was it said don’t sleep on AZ Cardinals lol?

I see where Bailey says, “I’m experiencing fatigue I’ve never felt before” regarding this season. All of these rookies and particularly, most of the pitching staff need to hit the fucking gym, as well as do cardio. As many others here have said – this roster is so out of shape, e.g., Pederson is a slob . . . He must be eating Bon Bons and/or dining at an “All You Can Eat” restaurant every freaking night after the game.

His BMI has to be over 30. Maybe the good prospects play winter ball and workout, too?

Xoot, probably like most here, my DREAM growing up was to be a major league baseball player. Pfffttt! That didn’t happen, but I still kept in shape, as I value my health. To this day, I still do cardio and weight lifting, watching my weight. If baseball had been my career, the ONE THING I could control is being ready to play the game, i.e., cardio, weight lifting, and practicing the game EVERY FUCKING DAY.

I just don’t get these guys that snooze through their careers, like Pederson, Panda, etc. What the fuck are they thinking? That the “gravy train” is going to last forever? Idiots.

Joc got his $18 mill and will coast on that forever. His grandkids grandkids are set.

Yeah, pretty pathetic. Even guys like John Kruk played full seasons without getting gassed.

Sure, it’s a grind, but the shit we did when we were kids, and in our 20s was a lot more strenuous than baseball. And I was a pack-a-day smoker back then.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 25, 2023 at 10:25 am

Yeah Kruk was really nimble behind the plate in a day game after a night game. Catching is tough.

Young players just speak more candidly to the press these days. Except Joc, who claims his gut hasn’t affected his hitting.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2023 at 11:14 am

Well, I just think there was a lot more pressure to perform at a high level once you made it to the bigs. From the team and the players around you. Just imagine George Kirby coming out of a game with Bob Gibson as his teammate.

Or maybe players were just tougher back then.

I always bring up Tony Gwynn when discussing overweight players.
Wonder if he ever commented on it publicly…

Why don’t they just play Bart, and let Bailey take rest of season off. They know now he’s the #1, why risk an injury for a now lost season?
Meanwhile, KNBR is saying lots of talk about Kappler maybe not returning. Now, an assistant pitching guru Bannister in the background is leaving for the White Sox. They are saying he’s the guy who has been responsible for bringing back these guys from nowhere to serviceable and better. And, his leaving signifies something gone wrong in the coaching ranks. This is what happens when your team has its wheels come off — lots of rumors and negative bullshit. I’m sure immediately after the last day of season there’s going to be tons of gossip and bad clubhouse stuff going to come out from the beat and other sources that’s been held back. It’s not going to be pretty. And, who knows, some of it may be served up secretly by FO or ownership sources for specific purposes. This organization is in a bad place right now…

https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/mlb/san-francisco-giants/mlb-rumors-free-agency-pitching/1657587/ Is a stupid take. Wood, Manaea and Stripling stunk up the joint as starters; and yes, the Giants were fortunate to have a lot of arms, where they didn’t have to keep running these losers out there. This doesn’t mean it is going to be the “norm” going forward. Hopefully, they can get some good starters to supplement Cobb and Webb.

Hi folks, I haven’t been able to log onto the Flap for several days now from my phone for some reason. I haven’t fallen off of the planet. I need to find a way to log on with my phone. My phone now won’t even give me the text-box to post in. Hopefully that changes.

Hmmnn Dolphins score 70, most since Redskins put 72 on NY giants in 1966 game that ended 72-41. Safetyman #23 Brig Owens scored 2 defensive TDs for Skins, cool player who was from Fullerton and led Cincy Bearcats to 10-1 record as QB, before Cowboys drafted him and turned him into DB.
Passed a year ago at age 79.
Gotta look that game up on pro football reference

Gogolak bros combined for 14 extra points. 8 different TDs of 40 yds or more. 74 yard reception for Charley Taylor, long punt return, 63 yd score for running back A. D. Whitfield (who had 3 scores in first half), 45 yd run for Bobby Mitchell, 50 yd TD pass to Homer Jones from one Gary Wood who threw 2 and ran one in . Sam Huff picked off pass at the end and Skins added FG with 7 seconds left. wild

      • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on September 25, 2023 at 8:49 pm

Huff may have called timeout to kick FG and get to 72, sticking it to Allie Sherman for getting traded.

Yeah zumiee, something is wrong with WordPress, as I have lost my editing privileges, along with knowing easily at the top of the page, whether someone is replying to my posts. I also have to log in each time I want to post something.

I get the same thing on my desktop iMac. One day I have to log in every post, next day I don’t. One day I can edit, next day I can’t. Some bad code has entered the building…

Very sad and sometimes embarrassing ending to the Giants season. I’m not as angry about it as some Giants fans. But I agree with everyone that next season is a make or break season for the current leadership regime of the organization. There are some promising pieces, but it needs to come together next season. A couple of big free agent acquisitions would help morale.
I finally got around to watching the 49er game last night after the Giants’ frustrating loss to the Dodgers.
It’s always so nice to watch a very good team that I’m rooting for perform so well. I watched a recording of the NFL network replay of the game.

I’m sure KNBR lunatic fringe is out in full bore-full on ignore. Last few weeks have seen lot of bad baseball, with Giants finding different ways to lose even in well pitched games like last night. Even as they are sitting just under .500 again I still think they are in better position than this time year ago when they beat up on Rockies to get to 81-81.
Pitching is in good shape and I like most everyone not named Stripling or Wood. Props to Manaea who might have pitched himself into opting out and decent longer term deal.

Healthy Cobb plus Webb Harrison Winn and one more makes for decent rotation without openers and there is more pitching developing. There are FA SPs out there though Z has been understandably reluctant to go that route. He could get Jordan Montgomery or others he passed on or got pulled back like Stroman and Snell at deadline.

Conforto leaves, Craw leaves Joc leaves–this opens up spots for younger players to show what they can do on regular basis. Decide what to do with backup C spot and fix OF.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 25, 2023 at 3:44 pm

It was right move to get some of the rookies 240+ ABs, but there wasn’t much production except from Sabol. Hopefully more to come next season.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on September 25, 2023 at 5:28 pm

Agree, particularly what you said about Manaea, as he has mostly come back from a terrible beginning. Not certain what to expect after reading numerous reports that “Johnson the Younger” could give 2 shits about signing a big, big superstar a la Ohtani or even, Bellinger. Obviously on a smaller basis and certainly, “stage” – the Giants seem to be doing a Yankees downsize version similar to what happened when “Pops” Steinbrenner passed away. Junior had no interest in signing big time superstars like his father. Obviously that changed over time. Anyway, I wouldn’t expect any big changes next season. Maybe only window dressing.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 25, 2023 at 6:19 pm

Junior J reportedly was the fool behind the premature annunciation of Correa’s signing. I think he’ll spend money, I just don’t think he knows how to do it, wisely. Memo to jr: Call Buster.

Manaea seems like a great guy. If he has the choice, I bet he bolts. Stripling’s a fucking dead albatross. I’ve pretty much lost faith in Cobb. Never had much in Wood. I hope to hell Harry and Winn rise to the task.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2023 at 6:48 pm

      Better?

We are treading water. We don’t have ANY power. OF is a joke. We have 2 starters. And Dirty Harry. Doval seems to have lost his mind, but I guess he’s our closer. Hope he bounces back.

More errors than last year. We have a LOT of questions and the front office’s idea going forward seems to be finding guys like Conforto and Haniger to hang their collective hats on and hope for the best as they do the lineup shuffle.

Unreal how bad this team just can’t hit a thing.

Webb gonna lose another 1-0 game.

So grateful for Baer always wanting to end the season at home: empty seats for meaningless games this series, then filled with Dodgers fans this weekend.

  21. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2023 at 9:06 pm

At least Conforto put Webb in position to win this game…

  22. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 25, 2023 at 9:31 pm

That should be Webb’s last start for the season.
He’s pitched enough, and goes out a winner.
Luciano looks like he’s got a starting spot next Spring barring injury…

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 25, 2023 at 9:59 pm

Part of them being better, no? Wade taking 1b, Estrada 2b, Bailey at C. DBax pen had 2 blown saves in late inning L to Yanks. They’ve won handful of games more than Giants, and have 2 SPs.

  23. xoot's avatar xoot said, on September 25, 2023 at 10:20 pm

Webb wins the Willie Mac. (Wilmer lobbies behind the scenes for him, just to be sure.) A healthy Luciano is the new starting SS. He’s actually as good as he was touted to be. When healthy.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 26, 2023 at 7:03 am

Yeah Webb deserves it. Fangraphs and other sites used to wonder whether Luciano was gonna be a ML SS or maybe even corner OF. small sample size but looks like he is just fine defensively.
