The Post Season Has Begun
Yesterday was fun. The Dbacks are an exciting team to watch and they won, too. And how bout Royce Lewis (rookie) coming off the IL to blast 2 bombs for the Twins? He’s the guy who is smashing all the Grand Slam records, btw….
Since pitching wins in the post season I wonder if the stolen base is going to have an even bigger role this year than in year’s past?
I misspoke when I said our young guys had failed….so far. What I meant is that none of them have come up and done what so many rookies did this year–and some of those rookies are younger than our rookies. So I have been jealous watching all of that unfold and then having to watch guys like Matos and Schmitt crush it in the minors only to come up here and do very little. Bailey was the exception.
Why do other teams have rookies who come up and smash and with us we always hear “it’s going to take time, they’re rookies.”
If none of the guys who came up this year ever develop into anything (certainly not anything like a Carroll or an Acuna or a Henderson) will any of you be even remotely surprised?
I know these guys were signed by the last regime, but sometimes teenagers take a while to get it together. Webb was 17 drafted in 2014, Doval was 17 in 2015, Luciano was 17 in 2018 and Luis Matos was 16 also from 2018.
Bailey and Fitz look like the real deal (tho so did Villar), Schmitt could be a keeper next year and Meckler is a year or two away.
I’m not mentioning Harrison, Beck or Winn, because one of those guys will probably be traded.
I hope the Brewers can bounce back.
I somehow missed this story this year.

Never tweaked my back taking a crap but did reaching for a toothbrush.
Been watching the horses for 45 years. Maybe a million races? I’ve never seen this before.

Drayden Van Dyke won a race at Santa Anita over weekend with 85 to 1 shot. $2 across paid like $240.
that was pretty amazing, passing everybody after they all passed his horse earlier. Assael Epinoza rode at Del Mar I think, then at short Los Al meet.
I love that you follow horse racing and watch it but don’t gamble on it.
Just finished reading fun chapter in neat book, “Goodbye, Oakland Winning, Wanderlust, and A Sports Town’s Fight for Survival “by Andy Dolich and Dave Newhouse.
Chapter 6 on Franklin Mieuli, fun read, lot of quotes from Tom Meschery. 21 chapters on likes of Al Davis, Dave Stewart, Finley, R Barry, J Lacob, Billy Ball. 240 pages.
Back in the 80s I met Newhouse during a lunch break at a traffic school class. Speeding ticket for me; don’t recall his infraction. Good guy. He knew everything imaginable about the A’s and Raiders.
FO seems to hope that Fitzgerald is the CF of the future. Showed a bit of mlb power last month. 26 yrs old, though. I hope they don’t trade Harrison. Beck or Winn? Better pay off.
Yeah, it’s a bit weird that they are talking about trading prospects when they have little to show from the current crop Farhan drafted. If we had 3-4 bona fide starters from the Farhan era maybe we could trade some. But we are really nowhere near that.
Then again if one of them is named Soto, sure.
Anyone else feel a mind body jolt when the national alert hit your cellphone? My last Covid vax was almost a year ago. Those mRNA receptors must be permanent. Suddenly, I feel like grabbing a bat and taking a long walk around town. Or maybe I’ll just relax and watch baseball.
There are clubs who gave up on young prospects that turned into superstars.
dogs signed Yordan Alvarez at age 18 and then traded him to Stros 6 weeks later for Josh Fields, who hasn’t played MLB in 5 years.
White Sox signed Tatis Jr. at 16 out of the DR and then traded him away a year later to SD for James Shields, who also hasn’t pitched in 5 years.
Randy Arozarena was signed by Cards at age 21 then dealt away in offseason 3 years later to TB for Matt Liberatore, a guy with minus WAR for his career.
Let kids play and replace Joc Craw Slater and Conforto at the least, and see what happens. More good young pitching on way too-Black, Whisenhunt and more.
I hope Fitzgerald offers more than slater in his, uh, prime.
Don’t forget Doval, Wheeler, and Reynolds traded away for varying shades of turd.
wow just read this on phone per TDN site: Dan Blacker, trainer given 7 day ineligibility suspension to begin Oct 3 and $1K fine for presence of Acepromazine, Controlled Meds Class B in sample from horse who ran in August. Big deal or no?
SA trainer Jeff Mullins also got $3K fine for possible violation of similar “use or attempted use” of controlled substance and possible violation of injections within 7 days after workout.
tht guy is a as squeeky clean as they come. I don’t know enough about how big a deal that drug is. I’m inclined to give him a pass considering all the shit Baffert and Miller and Rice do to horses illegally
This year is gonna be about the rookies. If I’m Greggie I tell him, you ride with who you got. If they suck you are gone. If they are OK, you can get re-upped. Otherwise, they trade shit away, then we are no better than where we were in 2018.
Which means we are looking at Ron Wotus or Chick Correa as our manager. No outside guy will take the job.
Tejas putting another beat-down on the Debbil Rays, 7-0 in the 6th.
The Bochy LU that sent four starters to the AS game seems to have regained its pop.
Remember Old Seals Fan talking about the Debil Rays he grew to like a bit while he lived in Fla? Hope that guy’s ok.
i don’t follow relievers at all. This guy Duran for the twins, JEEEEEEEEEEZUS. Unhittable.
That was nuts.
Lets go Brew Crew.
Carlos C must be feeling pretty good about the way things turned out for him after the Giants and Mets signed then shunned him. His regular session 1.4 WAR (bbref) wasn’t great, but Crawford’s -1.3 was a lot worse.
Another guy that was available in off season 2021. Didn’t get $$ he wanted and signed the 3 yr deal with opt out he exercised after 1 season to hit market again.
Who knows what Houston and Minn knew.
Cristian Pache starting LF in playoff game for Phils.
Braves traded him to A’s in the big Matt Olson deal, and he hit .174 for Oaktown, who sent him to Phils end of March for AA reliever. Hit .238/.319/.417 .736 OPS in 48 games for them
So he goes from team that lost 112 to team that wins 90 and got to WS last year.
ouch would have been nice grab but couldn’t quite snag that one
Brew crew may have jinxed themselves keeping Rowdy Tellez off the PS roster.
Tellez, pride of Elk Grove High. Not sure how he fell off the map so hard this year.
JD Davis Elk Grove too.
Rowdy PH there would’ve hit a grand slam.
two, if it were possible
Against a LH pitcher no less.
I guess it’s Go D-Backs.
Damn, i really wanted to see the Brewers win this one. Oh well, hope the Snakes upset LA.
BJs pulling Berrios after giving up a walk in the 3rd is ludicrous. They deserved to blow that game.
