A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

NLDS

Baseball begins again today. It shall act as a sufficient distraction until the Niner game tomorrow. I’m assuming we’re all rooting for Baltimore, Minnesota, Philly and AZ?

I have become so anti-Philly that they are like the mini-Flodgers!!! I still don’t care for Bryce Harper and all stems for the 2014 series and all the Bandwagon Gnats fans that came out of their wormholes that year in the DC area. I’m agnostic on the Orioles series but Baltimore is a good story. I’m with you on Twins and Douchebacks as well obviously!!! Go Braves…

Clubhouse morale thing…I didn’t care for Webb’s approach either. As SP his workload is very different from others, as he gets to sit and watch from railing 4 days out of 5. And never has to work on his hitting at all. Hitters in slumps, as Giants collectively were for last 2 months, have lot on their minds. And it has to be those guys, along with fielders making mental and physical errors that Webb was calling out publicly. Did he ever do that privately? Either after a game he lost or one he watched his other SPs lose due to sloppy play behind them or lack of O?

It is interesting that Yaz and Estrada spoke up about competing with more focus and edge, and Flores and Yaz spoke to Kap about it too. Apparently Craw was not a vocal leader type in clubhouse I thought he would be as reigning vet with 3/5 experience.

So I wonder who Webb thought the problems were. Most everyone blames Z for team he put together for Kap to run; Webb seems to place blame elsewhere. Meanwhile how many new players will there really be 2024 on position side? Best available FAs mostly pitchers.

Sounds like Pederson and the cards games were a big distraction to the focus. If he’s dragging the rookies into that shit, then sure, Webb has the right to speak out. Esp if Kapler’s hiding in his office and ignoring it.

The real question is, how are you rebuilding when everyone is on a 1-2 year deal? At least half the team will be different next season.

Half the team? How so? Bailey Wade Jr. Estrada Flores Davis (?) Luciano Haniger (unless traded) Yaz Matos…that’s 9 out of 13 position players not counting Sabol (who could be optioned) and Slater. Already saw Wisely Schmitt and even Fitzgerald for brief stretches. Haniger is only one of above dozen with an option deal.

I ‘m pretty sure Yaz, Estrada, Davis, Wade Jr, Slater and be still my heart Mark Mathias are all arb eligible (I’m not 100% positive because I can’t bring up Cot’s right now). SF needs to make room on their 40 man to protect kids from the Rule 5 draft, so I’m not sure all those guys will be offered arb.

This is like a game of telephone. I’m not going to listen to the entire interview again, etc. But SI’s always good for a compressed rehash.

Just re-read Baggarly’s Athletic article about Webb’s complete game 2-1 win over the pods. Webb’s gripes are in context there. The most critical remark wasn’t Webb’s. It was this:

“When’s the last time you heard music in a major-league clubhouse after a loss?” one Giants player, granted anonymity in order to speak freely, said. “I mean, you shouldn’t hang your head for too long after a loss. But you shouldn’t be OK with it, either.”

mm remember reading about Marley (Every little thing/gonna be alright) music thing. If Craw or the vet in question quoted here thought it wasn’t cool, did no one speak up, even privately?
Side note, could have picked something else of his like Get Up Stand Up or Small Axe. Lot of good options available.

I think Baggarly chose the Bob Marley song to mock, for effect. Check his article. Not clear the anonymous tattler singled out that single.

Always respected Kershaw, nice guy, great pitcher. In the regular season. Him being a Dog, I also always love when he folds in the post-season.

Anyone think we’ll have a World War before a World Series?
