Houston Surprises
Hold the phone, what’s this? Some life from Houston? What’s next, Arizona wins tonight? Are things about to get interesting?

Flavor, I haven’t posted comment since Giants season ended ingloriously 3 weeks ago so this message is overdue. Thank you once again for hosting platform where dedicated and passionate Giant fans can offer support and critique of our beloved Bay Area stalwarts.
In seasons like 2023, it it particularly helpful to have daily forum to vent frustration and occasional bewilderment at direction or directionless path organization is headed. Your blog is filled with multiple opinions and differing thoughts which is welcome. We collectively don’t always agree but the common denominator is we are loyal fans who want to reclaim the glory years of 2010, 2012 and 2014 and who accept each other’s thoughts and opinions with respect.
I was disappointed on couple levels with Farhan’s post-season analysis of 2023 season and views of off-season moves club needs to make. Gabe may have lost the clubhouse and needed to go but I don’t see enough accountability on part of Giant front office and ownership in assembling disjointed roster. I was big advocate of Farhan’s hiring in 2019 but after five years question whether he and ownership have clear vision of changes which must take place to make Giants truly competitive with elite teams, let alone being consistent playoff contenders. I’m not saying I have answers but Giant brass paid handsomely to develop winning blueprint. That’s their job. Sadly I’m not convinced they have definitive plan to get us there.
As for playoffs, hard not to embrace Bruce Bochy and Rangers run. Despite hiccup last night, Texas had amazing run through Tampa and Baltimore. Houston tougher challenge and if Astros win tonight and get series back to Minute Maid Park, who knows. Can’t see D’backs recovering against Phils but Arizona should be formidable presence in NL West in coming years, another hurdle for Giants to overcome.
thanks for your post. It’s for fans like you that I brought the blog back. Reminder, I am shutting this bitch down again the day after the WS ends but I’m sure will fire her back up
on Opening Day.
As far as 2023 goes, I really thought both Ramos and Villar would have breakout seasons. Don’t know why Villar just crashed and burned but he sure did. For Ramos it just seemed like management didn’t like him, don’t know why. I know he Kd a lot, but when he did hit the ball, he sure hit it hard, and I think we could have used some of that.
Because of his D, Schmidt probably has a better shot at the utility role than Villar next year, so I imagine Villar will be part of a trade package. I hope they give Ramos another shot, because I’d sure hate to see him go to another team and hit 30 HRs.
Interesting to see what happens if both series go little longer and other parts of rotation and pen need to be used.
Scherzer hadn’t pitched a game in a month iirc, didn’t have slider working and Stros made him pay. tremendous grab by Leody Taveras in CF off drive by Alvarez.
If this crop of rookies tanks in 2024, the Giants will be going through another regime change.
I just can’t see Farhan surviving a season of shittiness if these guys don’t cut it.
I mean, we ain’t gonna get any big name FAs with Farhan teetering on the edge of the abyss and whoever we hire as our inexperienced manager being a one-year wonder.
BTW, this is the peak of everything that band did.
that band is one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history.
If the Angels wanted to do a salary dump and would trade Trout, would you do it? He’s been on the IL a lot the last couple of years, and it is a ton of $s for 7 more years. Still, when healthy, he’s Trout, and dat dere is some good fishin.
Fuck Trout. Go after Soto and extend his contract. We NEED young guys.
Trout isn’t.
True, although I’m not sure SD would trade with us.
I wish we would have gotten him from the Nats.
Hey we all would love Soto but you’re starting with losing Harrison &Matos minimum plus more. And being a NL west team that sketchy if they can make a deal 🤝
Yeah the Giants need to make a splash which they never do so I doubt it happens.Soto’s agent is Boras and I’m sure he’s still pissed at the Giants on their bailing out of his other player Correa so he’s probably going to say to Soto screw that team, and their rebuilding not contenders..
Well, Frankly I’m at the point that they HAVE to trade Harrison and Matos. Otherwise we are just another young sucking team that will be going through another rebuild after next season.
October 18 and 20 1959 was when Cannonball Adderley and quintet recorded Live in SF at Jazz Workshop for Orrin Keepnews and Riverside. With brother Nat, Bobby Timmons Sam Jones Louis Hayes. Great tunes plus his wonderful intros.
Thirty years later on October 17th 1989, I was sitting in the upper boxes at the Stick when all hell broke out.
i remember feeling really guilty about being in Portland at the time. All the phone lines were down. I remember walking around LC that night just being so pissed off I wasn’t down there
Oy, harrowing tale. I think anyone here in Bay Area (I was at work in warehouse in San Jose when shelves moved) remembers that one and aftermath.
When it hit, I was ready to get out, my buddy stopped me asking if I wanted to be under all the cement. I sat in the seat ready to ride it down. When the umps started picking up the bases, we knew it was time to go. We took all the back roads through Hunter’s Point to get back home, at the time I was living a couple blocks up from Kesar, at Carl and Willard.
That was one long night.
We were neighbors. Lived at Cole and Waller in the late 80s. Used to go to that comedy club on the corner there. Saw Tom Kenny there. What a geek. He wanted desperately to be a cartoon voice. Hello Spongebob.
Funny guy. Man, there was 100 comedy clubs around there back in the day.
Ha, hey neighbor, my friend Alicia used to work the door there in the early 80s.
i bet you guys bumped into eachother trying to get beers at the bar. That’s awesome.
Maybe so Flav, if not a bar there was Val De Cole liquor store. I was also playing and hanging at the IBeam and other clubs down on Haight st. so there coulda been some beers spilt together at one of dem joints.
Damn. Went to the I-Beam all the time. Saw Etta James there, Meat Puppets, Roy Buchanan, Jesus and Mary Chain and a bunch of other bands. What was the place next door? There was a pizza parlor on one side (they’d pass pizzas through a hole in the wall) and another club on the other side. And the pool tables in the back. Loved that place.
I remember that place, I think the polka band I was in played our 5th year anniversary there, was it called the Full Moon Saloon? My favorite place to drink on Haight back then, was the bowling alley.
That’s it. Full Moon Saloon. Man, the Haight was a blast back then.
I was in our warehouse in San Carlos standing next to 2 stories of sheet metal.
Watching the sidewalk and driveway waves ripple toward Industrial Ave.
D-Backs win!!
Doobie bats second, chips a single, and scores on Bregman’s triple.
Earthquake weather around here past couple of days for the anniversary. In the 80s, I drove to and from work in West Oakland thousands of times via that double-decker freeway that collapsed, bottom deck headed home. Always hated it, for reasons I couldn’t identify. But I was in Davis in 89.
The fact that the World Series was about to start saved prolly 600+ lives.
Aubrey Huff goes all Neanderthal on Giants interviewing *gasp* a woman for manager…
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/world-series-champ-critical-giants-alyssa-nakken-interviews-manager-job
Aubrey Huff has a megaphone only because the Giants re-signed him for 2011 and 2012 and paid him $20 million for nothing. Otherwise, his ex wife would’ve knocked his bank account down to size and left him with no choice but to act rationally if he wanted a job.
Yeah, I recently watched replay of 2012 post season and was surprised to see Huff on that team, I have no memory of that, thought he was a one and done. Franchez too? Ross too, I think. All 3 so valuable in 2010 but useless after that.
he’s just such a moron. Anyone that just keeps ranting the word “woke! woke!” over and over again is a proven dumbfuck.
2012 was the year Huff had his anxiety attacks and ended up not playing.
Remember one of those two final years he had a breakdown that turned out to be similar to one he suffered at UMiami, which required a visit from his mother to get him back on the field? Yeah, women are weak and unqualified to lead. He’s both deranged and stupid.
Huff actually did get an at-bat or two in the 2012 post season. Groundouts, if I remember correctly… Ross too, I think, but I just don’t remember him that year. Maybe just Huff.
Holy shit. Jose Abreu going off again in post season. Stros pounded Bochy opener who couldn’t finish first inning, now after Rangers tie game up they’re down 7-3.
Astros need to win tomorrow, before they return home, where they were 39-42 this year.
