Works for me, the WP site and the signing.

Editing comment now. The desktop asked me to scan a QR code with the phone app to sign in. The instructions pointed me to a “scan to login” link under the “Me” section, but there was no such thing. I went back and chose sign in another way and used my password. Both the desktop and mobile app are working fine for me.

ok then wondered if Flav was off the golf course. I think a big hole was filled but wished we had 2-3 guaranteed years but this is an improvement long awaited this off-season. How long will it take for him to get ready now is a big question…

Yes, and looks like I passed the Snell test here.

pitching n defense . I’ll take it plus some addition by subtraction.

I’m pleased. Melvin, Williams, Chapman, Soler, Lee, Snell.

Ahmed at SS may work out. The 1B platoon isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad. There is depth if Yaz can’t hit, although it looks like Slater may be part of it. At least we won’t see him PH every game. Somebody must need Joey.

Giants are on MLB network today, 1 PM here.

Saw quote from Melvin that Luciano is back and swinging bat well. what do you guys think happens with him, and SS?

you see his one ab last night? A walk. At least he didn’t damage his .469 ops. Ahmed’s d is ok. Matos otoh–he should be on the team next week but intelligensia’s saying otherwise.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on March 20, 2024 at 8:55 am

No I didn’t. Read that SF won 9-8 slugfest, Matos homered Thairo had grand slam, and Wade Jr. won it with walk off rbi single 2 on 2 out. I like Late Night. As lead off last year he was top 10 NL on base pct., 17 HRs.  alongside Wilmet should be solid 1b combo if they can both stay healthy.

yeah it was an entertaining game. Live interview of Bailey (by kuip and pence): he says he’s fine now, may start today. No word (that I heard anyway) on Lee. Mild hamstring pull? Iirc.

    Loose change:

I don’t understand the Murphy acquisition. A veteran, but I don’t think he’s better than Bart for a backup. Looks to me like they’ll trade or have to waive Bart, either way they’ll get little in return for a guy who may turn into a very serviceable every day catcher for somebody, certainly a serviceable backup. Somebody explain what I’m missing.

Mattos bulked up big time over the off season. I was in Scottsdale for the first game of ST, the guy is clearly stronger. He’s hit 4 spring dingers. I’ll take him over Slater for a roster spot, way higher upside, esp. since Slater is always hurt. Mattos is due to get playing time at the MLB level.

Farhan closed fast on the far turn of STraining and got some good players. Snell will really help solidify, if he doesn’t have a down season because his prep is truncated. I’ve no problem with him cutting loose Crawford — that would have been a wasted roster spot — I’m sure they did not want to take him onto the initial 26 and then have to cut him 2 months into the season. For the casual fan though, and some season ticket holders I guess, this was a bad move from a PR perspective.

Why did they invite Pablo to camp?

Giants ownership cut loose Renel. WTF? Over money? How much $could have been at issue when you just gave Snell and Chapman commitments potentially north of $110 million? The real reasons will ooze out over time. I heard she apparently somehow ripped ownership at some point in the recent past for their right wing nuttery. Maybe it has to do with that. If so, I give her props. Per my hearing on sportstalk and columns, that tone-deaf move has more permanent PR downside with the fanbase than some of the player moves. They must have known that would happen, so that tells me that money was not the root of the split…

Murphy has at least shown he can hit ML pitching, as opposed to Bart. Bart didn’t even fare well at Sac, with 6 HRs in 200 ABs and .750 OPS, far below average in very hitter friendly environment. Fitzgerald hit 20 HRs there with OPS over .850 and he’s middle IF. Nothing wrong w keeping Bart around as insurance in case of injury, but he’s not ML player. If Cs are healthy he’s useless.

idk, the whole Renel thing… Maybe I’m tone deaf, but seems lot of angst over this, fueled by writers like Killion coming to her defense, yet little is really known about negotiations. Sounds like btw 65 year old Renel, Baer and Johnson fils they couldn’t come to agreement with whatever she wanted. PA announcer just seems far down list of things Giants as team need to be concerned about.

    • Winder's avatar Winder said, on March 20, 2024 at 7:02 pm

Yeah I figure the Giants have seen enough of Bart. Sad that we won’t get anything for him but that is the way some high draft picks pan out. I also guess that the Renel situation is more about change than anything else. Sometimes change is good.

  15. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on March 20, 2024 at 8:24 pm

Renel was great at her job and had a long run. Does everything have to be about politics?

  16. xoot's avatar xoot said, on March 20, 2024 at 10:27 pm

Hicks pitched well today. Remember few weeks back hysterics were upset over Hjelle’s injury? lol. Luciano had an ab; hit a hard ground ball up the middle for a single. 2 rbis. Matos didn’t start but went 1-2. I see the Yaz/slater dilemma. It’s sort of–which one will crap our first? Meanwhile, the fourth OF is ready. Matos.

Not sad to see Bart or Renel or Crawfish for that matter, go. Bart has had more than his fair share of shots and he’s still not there.

The FB crowd is beside itself. If they lose fans over the PA announcer then I don’t get it.

Flap orange and black is back, Jack.

I think this team is going to be fun to watch, 84, 85 wins fun maybe.

Come on down Bob Melvin, I do not miss that Gabe dude at all. That was a much-needed move IMO. Short term contract for Snell is good, short term for Chapman is sorta good (hope he stays for more). I like the Hicks experiment, I don’t know how long he’ll last as a starter, he throws a lot of pitches, but he throws em at 100 mph. If we get anything from Ray, it’ll be a bonus by getting rid of Haniger and Disco. Lee looks like the real deal in CF and will be a running fool. I don’t know if Ahmed will hit, but he sure brings the mitt. I also think Soler is an upgrade over Joc. Murphy can hit, but runners will be going wild on him, hope he doesn’t get too many starts. I do have worries about Bailey so I hope they have a MLB ready catcher in the wings. Matos has to make this team.

Again, it looks like it could be a fun year for the Orange and Black.
