Boring Loss
Watching the game with my dad, there was a moment he said “watching baseball is like watching grass grow.” I’ve personally never felt that way about the game. It’s possible the 2024 Giants offense might inspire that thought to pop into your head more frequently than if you were of a fan of a team that could hit.
Agree with everyone on the last thread about the old and tired players we have that need to go.
Headed back to Ca today. Looks like a lot of rain in front of me.
I looked up the NBA play-in tourney set-up, and it’s a goofy little thing.
If I have it correctly: 7 plays 8 in one game and 9 plays 10 in one game. The winner of the 7/8 game becomes the 7th seed, and the loser plays the winner of the 9/10 game; the winner of THAT game becomes the 8th and final seed. The loser of that game is eliminated. The loser of the 9/10 game is eliminated.
The Kings blew a four point lead with a minute to go vs. the Suns, and that just can’t happen. A turnover and a foul on a rebound. There are some high basketball IQ teams in the NBA, but I don’t think the Kings are one of them.
Then again 10 turnovers in the 2nd quarter, a la the Warriors, is no way to play basketball. And it was Steph and Dray, you know, the smart ones, winging the ball all over the place.
The Pelicans must have scored 30 points on turnovers in the 2nd quarter alone. As it was they gave up 45 points in the 2nd.
From up 11 to down 16 is quite the turd-level effort. Steph and Dray came back into the game with 7:30 left and the Warriors up 35-29 and were then outscored 33-19. with 8 turnovers to close the half.
Yes, brutal losses for both Kings and Warriors, who could end up meeting in play in games at some point. Top seed of West still in play as Denver lost to San Antonio.
Just saw Carlos Correa to IL with oblique injury. Lost 100 points off .834 OPS from 22 to 23. Twins on hook for next 5 years of contract, yikes.
Padres came from 4 down and beat LA at Latrine in extras 8-7.
Cards beat AZ 9-6 after blowing 6-0 lead they had built up vs. SP Brandon Pfaadt when Arenado hit 3 run HR. Goldschmidt got go ahead rbi. Glad these guys torturing somebody else.
I don’t get the 4:10 ET start, it’s probably some sort of tv thing but sure seems like an odd start time.
Former Dodgers prospect Ryan Pepiot to get start for Rays, who have multiple SPs out. He came over in Winter in trade with LA as Rays were unloading contract of Tyler Glasnow. Already started 2 games, one where Texas lit him up for 6 runs in 5.2 other one he shut out Rox in 6. Wonder when Fitz gets back in there
A week without an HR! How is that even possible in today’s MLB?
I would bet that never happened to the Giants in the entire decade of the 1960’s…
SF has 10 total HRs so far, second to last in MLB to the White Sox with 8…
Conforto, nice RBI double.
So far, Craw with St. Louis has played in 3 games.
8 ABs, 1 hit, 4 Ks…
At least the Cardinal fans won’t boo him like the Philly or Yankee fans would.
Fun fact: I recently got my 9th Covid vaccination.

Yes!
Dang Soler stung that. Dreaded warning track power.
I retired last year and retirement is everything it’s cracked up to be. I’m a big fan of it.
I retired at the end of last September.
I think I’m working more now. Half the time I’m acting like an insurance broker or underwriter or contract analyst. Between a few months of COBRA and now Medicare Advantage for me and Medicare Medigap for Mrs. snarkk, all I seem to do is read and deal with insurance correspondence, bills, EOBs, emails, payments, etc. It’s insane…
That’s an odd-looking domed ballpark, like they’re playing baseball in a pod on the moon.
I watched a game in the Kingdome once. It was like watching a game in a giant upside-down styrofoam bowl.
Kuip gets to say Outta here!
Estrada!
An HR!
wow Chapman starts nice 5-4-3 DP.
Whoa Giants got call.
No.
When Estrada runs he’s got some of the Ron Cey penguin thing going.
yaha what a great AB from Late Night
Wade with the HR.
Offensive juggernaut today Estrada&Wade HR’s 4-1 Giants! And nice ripped double by hung to low!! Yaz hit that wall hard on his right hip chasing down that fly ball(DL coming up? are just off tomorrow?)
Webb must think he’s dreaming. Giants have given him 4 runs.
FP Santangible, damning with feint praise: Ahmed reminds him of Johnny LeMaster…
That’s faint praise, probably. Seems some say either spelling might do…
FP got fired from his Nats broadcasting job. He just suddenly wasn’t there anymore.
It was some kind of harassment thing re: the Nats. It’s on the down low, for sure. He was tghen on KNBR late night for 6 months or so, driving me crazy with idiot remarks among a few baseball insights. Then fired along with one of the guys on the KNBR morning drive and some others. Cumulus is a crap radio organization, like most of them…
he was “fired”. I can’t edit anymore, for some reason…
I was on a video call but keeping one eye on the tv and the guy I was talking to thought it was hilarious that a solo HR early in the game caused me so much joy. You don’t miss the water til….
Yaz comes thru.
El Cubano!
Listened to great Los Van Van cut last night, Soy Normal, Natural from Lo Ultimo en Vivo with great singer Mayito Rivera and bassit J Formell.
Normal pero un poquito acelera’o!
just a little bit. When I visited Nicaragua in 85 Cuban music was everywhere in the cities. I attended a Catholic mass backed by an electric salsa/rock band. The free concert in the big Managua soccer stadium after the presidential inauguration was probably the best party I’ve ever been to. All that got slowly crushed. Cuban culture vive, however.
Now Thairo with the dinger.
Giants ears must have been burning from the Flap…
Webb got in some trouble and then got what he needed–ground ball to Chapman.
Now his buddies are teeing off as Thairo gets another one.
Now is where baseball goes off the rails.
Position players become pitchers in a blow out…
A win — with home runs, too!
For those in Nor. Cal, the River Cats game is on TV tonight on a local channel in your area, at 6:30. For those that get channel 31 out of Sacramento, that’s an option.
Dodgers/Padres is the ESPN game tomorrow night.
And if you’re looking for a good TV series to watch, I highly recommend two excellent British series: Doc Martin, and Call the Midwife. Both are very well done, and have a great combination of drama and humor.
While I’m recommending, two of the most interesting movies I’ve seen recently are Empire of Light, and Tar. In both, the lead actress gives an amazing and complex performance. All of the elements of filmmaking are great in both, including the music.
Medford sucks gentlemen. That is all.
I think it’s mostly transplanted Californians.
Missed the game today but wow we sure came alive. Hope we can keep some of that going.
A rainy day in Calif. today causing baseball rain delay.
I don’t know who the play by play guy is for the River Cats, but the other two broadcasters in the booth are Steve Sax and….Amy G.
The River Cats opponent is the El Paso Chihuahuas, I kid you not.
In AAA, each team can challenge a few ball and strike calls, and it’s done quickly, and I dig it, and it needs to come to MLB next season.
If it’s an Angel Hernandez game, it won’t be quick.
The River Cats are 19-0 in steal attempts.
Luciano hits a line-drive RBI single, scoring Ramos. Cats up 3-2.
Ramos makes a great running catch to keep the 3-2 lead in the 6th.
Another RBI single for Luciano, and Sac leads 8-2.
Ripley is real good, Zume. As is Nolly. Just started 3 Body Problem. My daughter turned me on to that book and it was excellent.
Yes to Ripley. PBS mystery series I like is Brokenwood, set in small town in New Zealand. Lead guy of small crew is country music fan who has cassette tapes in his old car, and you hear couple bars of NZ country rock tunes 2-3 times during 90 minute episodes. I think 9 season’s worth are out currently.
I agree about the Ripley series. Highsmith is one of my favorite authors (I think I have pretty much everything she has written), I had to keep multiple copies of that 1st Ripley book because every time I leant it out, I didn’t get it back. I haven’t seen it in years, but Wim Wenders did a movie called the American Friend starring Dennis Hopper based on Ripley’s Game, the 3rd book in the series. Hopper playing Ripley was awesome.
Nicholas Ray as the painter pretending to be dead to raise the value of his work. Closing a circle, there. Hopper’s debut was in Rebel WAC. I often remember images from The American Friend. The counterweights of construction cranes swinging around like enormous fists. Bruno Ganz slapping a sheet of gold leaf over his own face. Ray’s character testing his failing eyesight.
The Zone of Interest is a recent movie with startling imagery and innovative sound design. Challenging subject, of course. I liked it.
Yeah Xoot, terrific visuals, so was Wenders Paris Texas and Wings of Desire. Great stuff.
Nice column in TA on Doc Gooden (getting number retired today), w comments from hitters including HOF who first saw him 84-85. couple Giants in there, Will Clark and Chili Davis, and Davis hit him pretty well. Early-mid 80s before Craig took over weren’t good years for Giants, but Gooden was something. Guys said he reminded them of Nolan Ryan w fastball/curve combo. I did see Ryan at Stick once with Stros, and he was amazing.
Clark went 20-61 w 16 Ks off Gooden regular season in comments section per writer Tim Britton (w help from Baggs)
Chili was 13-29
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-05-16-sp-5800-story.html
Even though the early 80’s Giants did do very well I really liked them. We just needed a real 3rd baseman and a SS that could hit. Evans is still one of my all time favorite players and it was fun watching Chili. Kuiper and Morgan were good a 2nd even though Kuip couldn’t hit his way out of a paper bag.
didn’t
I was at a game at the Stick with Kruk going against Doc and we kicked his ass. That was a fun game.
In ’85, Gooden had a personal 14-game winning streak (with 4 NDs) before losing to the awful Giants 3-2 at the ‘Stick in late August. If ever there was an upset in baseball, this was it.
Darrel Evans was fun to watch at the Stick you never knew what he was going to do.He wasn’t a great fielder but he was always a gamer and smash some impressive HR’s to win games. Of course as soon as he left the Giants he goes to the Tigers and they were incredible going 35-5 ( think Dave Bergman ex Giants was on that team as well?)to start the year and never looked back as they won the W/S! Next year in 85 he goes and hits 40 HR’s and wins the HR title, just amazing,Happy for Darrel he had a nice career…
The days when the Giants actually drafted home grown outfielders was 70’s when they had Gary (Sarge) Matthews in LF,Gary Maddox CF,and Bobby Bonds in RF!
Watching those 3 playing the OF in 73-74 was jaw dropping ( speed they tracked down everything, great arms, GG calibers, they were imo the best 3 outfield combination ever to play…
Yep they were something. You could throw Kingman in there also even though he wasn’t in those three’s class. I spent the whole late 60’s and 70’s mad at Stonemason.
fucking auto correct. Stoneham.
Why is there a delay?
Nice bounce-back game from the G’s yesterday, let’s see if Snell can keep it going so this team can start stringing together some wins. They haven’t won two in a row since the first Padres series.
The game is showing as delayed. Anyone know why?
SF all or nothing. 7 or more runs in 4 games. 35 runs 4-0
other 11 games 30 runs. 2-9
Dubs likely will play Lakers in play in. Sacramento if the lakers beat pelicans.
Crazy that 1,2,3 seeds all tied on last day of the season. Denver will beat Memphis. OKC and Minn have tough games…
From Twitter: Rays are having a HOF induction ceremony for Dave Wills so first pitch is delayed. Might be around 11am PST.
I heard it was mosquitos–that after this morning’s fumigation of the stadium the volume of dead moscos on the carpet took longer than usual to vacuum up.
Be nice to see the hitting have 2 solid games in a row rather than one a week.
Dave Wills?
Rays broadcaster.
Ahhhh thx
our CF/lead off man is beginning to hit and learning to read mlb moves on the mound. Easy score from 2B, too.
At. least we got 1.
Nice start! Lee is going to be exciting all year he makes contact consistently nice hit to leadoff ,SB, easy run score on Wade’s hit for 1-0 lead! A great sign by the Giants getting him..
Well short lived lead 1-1 now as Snell gives up a run…
*sigh* Couple lazy breaking balls there, Snellie.
Stinky Snell.
Just got Shelled by Snell Damm 3-1
This team looks like it is capable of winning one game a series.
Right now, the Giants are getting very little in the way of breaks, from crappy umpires to poorly hit balls that get down. And Chapman should’ve gotten a damn error on that ground. Mr. Gold Glove needs to make that play every time, especially when he’s not hitting his weight.
Smell came in with a 9.00 era. Will it rise today? Pitch counts pretty low. He may go five IP.
Well. Skyrocket instead.
Then again . . .
Oooooh that Snell . . . Slow start indeed.
This team has been very frustrating to watch so far. Another lost series.
Snell going through Spring Training. Too bad these are real games…
Absolutely nothing working for this dude.
Onto the Masters.
Alexander at 23 pitches in the top of the 5th. That was Snell’s 1st inning.
BoMel should get tossed there. The catcher is behind Estrada.
Fuck this shit.
I second that
Warriors and Masters . . .
Giants baseball. Who’s loving it?
Brewers vs Balt is free game of day on gameday, some quality baseball to watch there.
Morikawa grinding. Should be up 1.
Yeah back to the Masters Mac!
I guess one good blowout deserves another…
Onto Miami.
Miami is awful. So, SF might be able to pull out 1 of 3…
Unless they suffer jet lag from the flight from Tampa to Miami Snarkk I’m with you 1 win with this erratic bunch!
Scheffler,Morikawa looking good but my Darkhorse pick Aberg is the guy I think will win this now only 1 back he’s been rock solid in his 1st major..
Melvin needs to play Fitzgerald in RF for a few games. The guy can motor. He’s got a little pop, too. Maybe he can fill that black hole out there..
I would not be offended by Fitzgerald in RF and Wilmer at 1B more often.
