A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Coast to Coast to Coast

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 18, 2024

That W probably made the trip back across the country a little easier to deal with. And with no days off we face Arizona tonight. At least they played a day game. But this has been some weird scheduling to start the season (to say the least).

10 game home stand starts now. We are facing 3 good teams but we’re at home, we’re only 3 games out of first place. Time to fuck.

At least we showed a little life this road trip. Our pitchers, and hitters got to step up their game and I still believe we are capable to do it. It’s always a bad sign when you expect the worst to happen and it does.

2 day games this weekend, and weather in Bay Area is heating up. Yard does play differently in that type of situation.

For all the endless talk about Warriors roster and payroll problems going forward, I looked this up after I saw numbers in TA comment section. Steph Curry (age 36 as of month ago) made over $50 million this year, one of his worst shooting seasons in last 10 for 2s and 3s. and is owed total of $115 million for next 2 years.

Jordan Montgomery to make first start of season tomorrow, followed by DBax 2 best, Gallen and Kelly.

Young guy going tonight Ryne Nelson got roughed up in first 2 starts vs. Yanks and Braves but last outing vs. Cards only gave up 1 run in 6 as AZ won 4-2. DBax closer Paul Sewald still hasn’t pitched for them.

I’m enjoying Francisco Lindor’s 9 HR/18 RBI pace. Can’t stand that guy. In the running for worst contract ever given…

Webb is coming off his best start of the season and they got him some runs for a change, I expect another strong start tonight ! Offense needs to WAKE Up and not let Nelson turn into Cy Young tonight!

On the farm, Casey Schmitt after a rough start is now on a 12-25 tear with 4HR’s..

Reggie Crawford made his debut on the mound on a limited pitch count went the 1st inning walked 1 K’d Stone Garrett a big leaguer on a rehab assignment 19 pitches thrown 11 strikes something to build upon..

In order to help myself fall asleep last night, I was trying to think of pitchers who became good managers. Especially good pitchers – not trash like LaSorda. Gotta be something better than Roger Craig out there…

Bud Black? Not in Craig’s class as mgr

It’s such a specialized skill set, one that requires meticulous repetition, but not a lot of interaction with teammates other than the catcher. Ironically, I bet pitchers are in general better golfers than position players.

It’s also interesting how much Brock Purdy was helped by a pitching coach and that he ended up having Tommy John surgery.

from the CIA’s Wikipedia page on Lemon:

“I know many major league owners are against hiring a former pitcher as manager and I’ve always wondered why. Pitching is 75 per cent of the game. If it’s so important, why not have a former pitcher as manager? He can always have someone else run the other 25 per cent of the club.”[65]

The thing that’s got me most excited about tonight’s game is the Go Ahead facial recognition entry to the ballpark. We have seats in the tech bro section behind home, but I’m gonna relinquish my right to enter through its exclusive portal and choose to have my privacy invaded instead by the Chinese agents working with MLB.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on April 18, 2024 at 11:32 am

jump in there and quash any attempt to induce the wave. Baggs will thank you. the food court bunker, I mean lounge, is sort of odd. Will you be placing your crab sandwich and beverage orders from your spacious seats? Still, should have a great time. Nice to see Bailey from that pov. Also, may be a good spot to sense the operation of pitchcom. And Giants HRs will sound beautiful off the bat.

I’ll be *leading* the wave, if Webb lays an egg tonight. Spacious and now apparently quite cushy seats! The clubhouse is surely missing Kapler amidst their hard contact/little reward crisis. No one can advocate for belief in The Process like Gabe.

Reading about PitchCom, I learned that teams customize their systems for individual pitchers with the voices of familiar translators or coaches. At least one team has a button on the catcher’s cuff that he can use to shout “Fuck, yeah!” after an important play or punch out. Think the Giants use Lincecum’s voice for that one?

  10. willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 18, 2024 at 5:50 pm

Clyde King was pitcher too, though not very good one. Career ERA 4.14.

as Mgr. only season he had over .500 was with Giants in 1969, Mac’s big year when they went 90-72. Marichal went 21-11 with ERA of 2.10 and 8 shutouts. Howinell could you lose 11 games pitching like that?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 18, 2024 at 6:20 pm

Clyde King was the first manager I remember as a kid following the Giants. Soon to be replaced by Charlie Fox. That could be backwards tho. My memory ain’t what is used to be.
