A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Bailey Bomb

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 21, 2024

We bounced back from another Snell loss with a really nice win. They competed and kept playing hard till the end. What more can you ask for? Bailey was amazing. Do they technically not count that as a Splash hit since it landed dry in a boat?

Hicks and His Hot Licks get after it again today…..

when was last time to be excited about Giants CF, especially a young one?

And in a good way, as opposed to like Gorkys Hernandez.

I looked back 20 years and yeow. Andres Torres was already 31 by time Giants got him and he really only had 1 good year. 20 years ago 37 year old Marquis Grissom was out there.

btw great to relive one shining moment from our boy the Prez. Man those Phils teams were so annoying. Shane Victorino lol

I enjoyed Angel Pagan’s 15 triples in 2012–many of them standups. Iirc, next year he stretched one into a thrilling inside the parker, hurt himself on the sprint or the slide, and never reached that 2012 level again. Played a decent CF. And no 2012 WS without him.

Gary Matthews? Gary Maddox? Chili Davis is our last homegrown all star outfielder.

Bailey woulda hit for the cycle had the 2nd double stayed in the yard. Very cool day for him.

“I think it’s just a bad week, I really do” said Dave Roberts. Cue Lloyd Bridges in “Airplane.”

Baggs in TA did mention same thing Flav talks about re Splash bomb in nice story about Bailey. He also mentioned Corbin Carroll, who struck out 3 times again yesterday (as he did Thursday night) and per Baggs misplayed a ball in CF that wound up a double for Bailey. He’s hitting .224 w 3 XBHs in 85 ABs w lowest OPS .609 among their regulars.

Last year he was best hitter (even better than awesome Ketel Marte) on AZ team w middling NL stats for runs OPS. But they were 1 and 2 for triples and steals. Carroll had slash line of .285/.362/.506 w 65 XBHs (30 doubles 10 triples 25 HRs) and 54 SBs vs. 5 CS.

As Baggs said you wonder if this is dreaded soph slump/jinx that happens to lot of guys. wondered if NL pitchers that saw lot of him as igniter of their offense might be extra focused and pitch him lot differently this year. See what happens.

Nice to get some wins together. Winning today for 3/4 vs Az would be VERY nice!

Hicks giving licks to Pederson &Sureaz hitting both that leads to a 1-0 lead.Facing a last second pitcher in Cecconi Macaroni may not be the sauce they needed today turning another stiff into CyYoung..

How about the Giants batters taking a pitch or two to give Hicks a blow between innings? He’s out there sweatin’ bullets trying to find his control, and then the Giants two innings in a row make 3 outs in about 90 seconds to send him right back out there. Sheesh…

First the no-hitter, then the shutout.

Giants pitchers aren’t great at shutting down opponents after they score.

  16. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on April 21, 2024 at 2:33 pm

Tuned in late, didn’t know Hicks had a Rodon-like 96 pitches in 5 innings, so here comes the ‘pen.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on April 21, 2024 at 2:42 pm

yeah he walked a bunch and drilled a brace.

  17. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on April 21, 2024 at 2:39 pm

    And there goes the lead.

  18. Yogi Barrister's avatar Yogi Barrister said, on April 21, 2024 at 2:43 pm

Welp, that lead was fun while it lasted. They’ve still got 12 outs left to get it back. Bailey’s looking like an All-Star this series,

when big Sean Hjelle appears on the horizon, poised tall mid wind up, you know there’s trouble in the minors.

that sucked. Miller had been reliable lately. They gotta find some consistency in this BP

  21. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 21, 2024 at 2:57 pm

    Geez they brought Lurch back?
Highway to Hjelle is the last dude I want up here!

Managers/GM’s /Owners drive me bonkers on players that should be up and the ones that need to stay in the Sac Heat and cook everyday…

what pitcher should be up ahead of him? Bivens, Black, Whisenhut?

Man Soler has been bad. Miserable AB.

Soler vapor trail fizzles out in routine bouncer to 3rd to kill the rally.. Those RISP keep adding up bigtime..RIP=RISP

  24. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on April 21, 2024 at 3:12 pm

Yeah, second-guessing after the AB, but I’m not sure Soler should be pinch-hitting for anyone right now.

He will never have Ricky’s speed but your right don’t force it Xoot, kinda dumb to run after 4 straight not even close strikes.
Jesus does Fitzgerald know what a baseball glove is used for?? Fuck that like 4-5 errors for him already!!
