A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Win!

I know Chap has been in a slump but his power is there, man. He’s just been in a funk. Soler I don’t know about. He is worrying me whether he’s injured or not. It’s wild to me that the brass considered both Black and Jefferies, twice, and still picked Jefferies both times. I get it, he’s got a short leash but Black is on a different planet than Jefferies. It really makes you wonder if they have any fucking idea what they are doing or how to do it.

And I won Marty Lurie’s original Joe’s raffle today, too. Did you ever use your tickets, Flavor? I’m sure I’ll cash mine in eventually.

Rockies behind ty Blach (!) beat Boch’s Rangers 3-1 today for 3 game sweep. In fact only NL West team that lost today was…Dodgers, shut out by Darvish and Padres 4-0. Pads hit back to back HRs off Buehler in first by Tatis Jr. and Cronenworth. He gave up 3 runs in 3.1, 5 hits 2 BBs 2 bombs and HBP. Darvish Wandy Peralta and R Suarez shut out Dogs on 4 hits as SD took series 2 of 3. Per cbs site attendance record set for 3 game series at Petco, 133,970.

Yamamoto goes for LA tomorrow in opener here.

Slater got Wally Pipped by Ramos this weekend, and it wouldn’t shock me if someone Pips Lee.

Lee’s got that contract, though, so we have to hope Lee turns into something.

Lee’s already made some fine plays in CF, Zum. Most teams willing to accept trade off of less offense for superior play there and he’s best they have for that position. Hitting ML pitching learning process, as H S Kim found out too.

Lee’s off to a speedy promising start for a rookie and he has a very long term deal. Your negativity ain’t legit, dude.

He has 6 extra base hits so far, doesn’t walk much, is not a base stealer. He’s a more expensive Darren Lewis so far. That could change with time, though.

He learned to steal at the mlb level in a few weeks. He’s the best defensive CF the Giants have had in a very long while. And he’s not much fooled by mlb pitchers–he rarely strikes out. Before getting hurt today he was fifth on the team in runs scored. Dumping on a stellar rookie like that 25% into the season is hilarious. Good one, Zum.

5th on the Giants in runs scored, ouch.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on May 12, 2024 at 5:56 pm

        Ha! You’re so legit today.

In his best full year with the Giants, 1993, Darren Lewis was fourth in runs scored on the team, just two ahead of Will Clark (who, also in a full year, let me save you the trouble, was fifth).

So you’re going to keep mocking me for using the word legit. Uh OK…..

Peralta was guy Giants sent to Yankees for Tauchman late April 2021. spent 3 years there before signing as FA for SD in off season for $3.3 mil.

Injuries forced the Giants to go younger and the team found some life.

It has to be Ramos in LF,Matos CF,and Yaz in RF every game right now imo..

Denver scored 5 points in the last 2 seconds of the half, which included a great shot from beyond half-court.

Losing Lee for any amount of time isn’t good news, the guy’s been one of the team’s bright spots. But if it gives Matos a shot, maybe it will be ok. At the start of the season, I was actually hoping for an OF of Ramos, Lee, and Matos, making Yaz a 4th OFer and trading Conforto. Let’s see what Matos does, I think he’ll do well. But doubt Lee gets Pipped.

I’m curious Paul. Have you watched hbo’s The Sympathizer? Nguyen’s novels (The Sympathizer and The Committed, about the same tormented Vietnamese refugee/spy) are dazzling. IMO. The hbo series is pretty good. The view of the war from that point of view is bracing.

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on May 12, 2024 at 7:35 pm

Have heard of the novels, am always interested in the PoV from here. Don’t have ready access to HBO though. Used to get loads of stories from grandparents and parents of my students… not so much anymore. Students are too young now, war too long ago. We just had the big *reunification* holiday two weeks ago. Next year will be the big 50th anni….

Nguyen, a left wing prof at USC, excoriates the colonizers and their lackeys but harshly criticizes the Vietnamese communists. His deeply absurdly conflicted refugee/spy hero searches valiantly for some dialectical synthesis that might open an escape route. Much violence and stunning comedy ensue.
